43  Other / Beginners & Help / why so many currencies? on: October 17, 2017, 03:23:13 AM
Hi All,
Please help me understand in plain English how will we benefit from so many currencies?
I see so many startups with decentralized blockchain ideas with their own crypto currency.
Today I purchased oatmeal directly from a mill at their website.
This mill sells its products thru grocers and other online stores as well.
They probably gave 3% to the credit card company, which they could reduce by using blockchain.
But if every store and every business starts creating their own currency, then I will have to go thru an exchange to convert BTC or ETH to that coin to make some purchase.
Then we would need miners to process all those transactions in various coins.
Why can't they just use ETH? Just like all IPOs use dollars.
Thanks in advance
44  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: best exchange other than coinbase on: October 11, 2017, 05:35:53 PM
Where are you from? Hard to answer for a generic person that could be anywhere in the world

If from USA, why not some of licensed exchanges, like Gemini?

I am from USA. But does Gemini allow me buy Ripple, Neo etc or only ETH and BTC?
Then go to another exchange to buy Ripple?
Thanks
45  Economy / Service Discussion / best exchange other than coinbase on: October 11, 2017, 03:43:37 PM
Hi,
I want to buy some BTC, ETH etc using US dollars and am looking for an exchange other than coinbase as it has high fees.
I tried kraken but right not funding from US dollars does not work.
Please let me know your recommendations.
Thanks in advance
46  Economy / Exchanges / fund bittrex with US dollars? on: October 11, 2017, 02:08:37 AM
Hi,
I am planning to open a bittrex account but looks like they do not allow US dollars funding from a bank account.
Which other sites should I look for? I want to start investing in altcoins using transfer from a bank account.
I felt coinbase has high fees. And kraken cannot transfer at this time.
Thanks in advance
47  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: hackers cause chaos on: October 08, 2017, 06:29:35 PM
Looks like a huge number of people actively hacking/stealing, that is what I am alarmed at.
These are high tech educated people like us. Not some school dropout, misguided youth on the streets.

Who are these hackers and why can't we stop them?

50  Economy / Trading Discussion / which stocks to invest in? on: October 05, 2017, 04:25:59 PM
Hi All,
I hear some companies are starting to embrace blockchain technologies.
Case in point - overstock.com which shot up recently.
So which other companies to invest in?
BTW, how will they make profit from blockchain anyway?
Thanks in advance
51  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kraken issue on: October 05, 2017, 04:04:58 PM
No, did not loose money yet. I am in the US, so kraken has issues with funding from US banks?
Thanks
52  Economy / Exchanges / Kraken issue on: October 05, 2017, 03:40:03 PM
Hi All,
I ran into a technical issue while funding my new kraken account.
They said they are working on it for past few days and not sure when it will be fixed.
Anyone experienced this? Should I wait or better open an account with coinbase or elsewhere.
Thanks in advance
53  Economy / Economics / what will happen to banks? on: October 04, 2017, 03:49:07 PM
Since banks profit from fees and blockchain will kill fees, my guess is banks will be negatively impacted.
Some banks are already stepping into the blockchain world.
But blockchain will not bring back the profits as otherwise.
Any thoughts?
Apologies if this is not the right place to discuss.
Thanks in advance.
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / why myetherwallet? on: October 02, 2017, 02:30:37 AM
Hi,
I am new to this and have a fundamental question: Why do ICOs ask us to send ETH using myetherwallet?
Why can't I send them directly from kraken.com?
Thanks in advance
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / ICOs for US investors on: October 02, 2017, 01:51:10 AM
Hi,
Are there any ICOs open to non-accredited US investors?
How do I find them or is there a list?
Thanks in advance
