Yup it's official... as of now, it's around 62 mil dollars. Watch for btc to drop, and make sure you stock up on it as it shoots up!

I lost about 70 dollars... too bad. I had just started with them too. About 3 weeks in.

I think people have gotten a misconception about cloud mining and looking for a quick fix. or quick results

something like this would take some time. have to be patient to see good results

Thing is, you have youtubers like Ryan Hildreth who talk about bitconnect, and hashflare... He does such a good job, people fall into it.

Accoridng to his last video, you can get your ROI in 2 months. He can turn his 2100 investment into 13K in 12 months... There are so many people that don't look any further and sign up and find out it's not that simple.

‘Make sure you’re closest to the exit’: Analysts say bitcoin could be heading back towards $US7000

BUY!!!

It's crappy because some of us (like me) got into the game a little late and made my purchases at 7950 and 9500. Now here I am riding the waves. lol... Why can't you steady out at 11 and ride around there? why you gotta go up and down right where I bought at LOL
47  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Can't decide between Trezor and Ledger Nano S on: November 29, 2017, 03:46:17 AM
Trezor is the best choice if you can spend a few more bucks because it has much better features and compromising your security for a small amount isn't smart.

This sounds like trezor devices are more secured. Thats not true. Both, the trezor and ledger nano, are on the same level security wise.
Trezor even had a bug in one of the last firmwares where an attacker with physical access to the device could have read out the seed, in some circumstances,
because it was dumped to the RAM unencrypted while resetting. You can't have 100% security. Both are fine.

Is this the case of the news editor guy where he paid someone to build him something to hack it? I remember them saying that if he had a passphrase, it was game over.

Honestly at the end of the day, nothing is 100% proof. You can have FIAT currency in your bank vault, and through some intricate ways, that can be stolen too. you bank account can be hacked, your wallet can be stolen...

can't make it world proof. You just do your best.
48  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Can't decide between Trezor and Ledger Nano S on: November 28, 2017, 02:27:21 AM
I like the design of all of them. I liked that I could carry the nano around with me on my keychain... But would I really? So I started thinking about the trezor because I noticed fees were little less on the youtube vids when people compared them, and I liked that it would give you time estimates and price for trans fee.

Then I saw a video about keepkey and how shapeshift.io acquired them and that you can trade currency within the app for it. I liked that... It also had the other features I wanted (trans fees with time frames) and I prefer the way it looks. I realized I won't carry this thing around, so I decided to get it...

I figured I'll keep little of my money on coinbase or similar wallet (mycelium, jaxx or whatever) and rest of my funds on the keepkey. As of right now, there really is no point of keeping cryptocurrency on you anyways, not like you can make a purchase anywhere... I'll keep this in the safe.

I might buy the ledger in the near future if I have money to waste, and I want to compare.
49  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Can't decide between Trezor and Ledger Nano S on: November 27, 2017, 10:04:57 PM
anddd I ended up going with keepkey LOL. I like the shapeshift thing and hope it will work well for me!
50  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / can you create a wallet with one app, and restore to other? on: November 27, 2017, 08:00:26 PM
Hey guys...

Curious if this would work. I would assume so, but I'm not sure...

Let's say I create a wallet on mycelium, I get my private key and then my 12 word passphrase.

Later I decide I want to use exodus, or trezor, or whatever...

Can I click restore, use the passphrase I have from mycelium, and restore my private key to exodus? (or another wallet).

or are the passphrases proprietary to each software?

Thanks!
51  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Can't decide between Trezor and Ledger Nano S on: November 27, 2017, 05:57:50 PM
Hey guys,

I want to get a cold wallet for funds storage, but I'm having a tough time picking between the two...

I've taken keepkey out of my runner ups because of cost, and the fact that it's not as established as the other two.

I like ledger for it's size, price and form/function.

I like trezor because it is established, and I "believe" it has some cool functions like you can choose transaction speed/price and gives you an estimate etc. I don't think ledger has that. It's also easier to update firmwares and etc.... it's also 100 vs 60 bucks...

So I'm at a loss here. I haven't pulled the trigger, because simply... I can't decide which I want to go with lol...

let me know what you think?

I like the fact that some of these connect with other software for ease of use. I believe both will hook upto exodus? or mycelium to send funds?

I just reached the 200 trades. I was going to upgrade until I saw the ridiculous price. Wow, I'm doing the same thing now with BitcoinTaxes for a tenth of the cost.

Yeah, it's ridiculously expensive if you want to upgrade. Such a nice software too... too bad.
53  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you invest on exchange? Money waiting ready to go? on: November 21, 2017, 02:25:01 AM
I am registered and ready to go.... bittrex, kraken, gdax, poloniex and all verified. Problem is how do I send 500 bucks to one of them right now avaliable to trade today? I'm aware bittrex doesn't accept USD.

Coinbase is a pain, but it's the easiest way in. Buy a chunk of BTC on Coinbase and send it to Bittrex, Kraken, etc. to trade.

Just kills me to pay that fee!!! I wish there was an exchange that did the instant transfer thing like robinhood...

Also, I always hear never to keep your currency at an exchange. Well what do you do? constantly transfer back and forth anytime you want to trade? the tranaction fees would just add up!
54  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you invest on exchange? Money waiting ready to go? on: November 20, 2017, 04:11:28 PM
Only way I can think of is if you wire money into gdax I guess

Coinbase (among other exchanges) allow you to store fiat currency on their site, in a fiat wallet, so you can buy crypto currency at the exact time the price is right for you.

Coinbase also allows you to lock in your purchase price at the time of purchase even though it'll take a few days for the transaction to settle. It's faster if you use a credit card, but you can still connect a checking or savings account.

The first step is signing up, get an account, get authorized, then click "buy" when you see the right opportunity! If you wait til tomorrow you'll just be one day older when you finally decided to get in on this.

Right, I see that as the only way.

limited to 750 on Coinbase with a 5% transaction fee from debit card. So you bring in 500 bucks, you lost 25 dollars of it... Pretty crappy.

Now you can use that on gdax and limited to 3 currencies...

or you pay a transaction fee and transfer from GDAX by converting what you have to LTC and then send to wallet/exchange of choice?

I am registered and ready to go.... bittrex, kraken, gdax, poloniex and all verified. Problem is how do I send 500 bucks to one of them right now avaliable to trade today? I'm aware bittrex doesn't accept USD.

So I imported CSV of my 1st BTC and LTC transfers...

however, the LTC import is showing me a negative USD balance. They're small 1st transactions I made.

BTC is for .01, LTC is for .297...

How do I fix this?
56  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you invest on exchange? Money waiting ready to go? on: November 19, 2017, 10:58:36 PM
Hi there, GDax and Coinbase are both good ways to trade, and to beat the waiting time you just have to invest more earlier. Exchanges usually takes quite a while to process and convert your cash to BTC (for security reasons, perhaps). Its not too bad anyways, the price has gone up to 8000 now, which you can sell and profit from it. Smiley Wish you luck in your investments!

Right, but what about when it just drops? I mean like right now I don't have any money in gdax. in the next hour or day, btc can just go to 6K which would be a great buy time. But I don't have any means of putting 1K into gdax right away to benefit from it. So do people just keep some USD sitting idle in their gdax waiting for an oppurtunity like this? I don't like the thought of tying up money into an exchange with USD which is why I asked.

I wish there was a place that would do what robinhood does, and give you instant availability on good will. If you mess up and not have enough money in your bank account, the exchange would just put you in the negative, and you can't pull your money out until you bring your balance to 0 the old fashion way.

Only way I can think of is if you wire money into gdax I guess

Will bitcoin be ever able to fix this problem? Or this something written in too deep within bitcoin that can't really be fixed?

I haven't 100% decided what wallet I want to use. I'm still using coinbase as my "wallet". I've looked into mycelium, exodus and jaxx as well as cold wallets. I'd like something I can use on the go, which really takes exodus and cold wallets out. Mycelium and Jaxx are the only options left, but not sure how those work if the company dissapears... Where is my private key stored? Little off topic now but so many questions being new to this.
58  Economy / Economics / How do you invest on exchange? Money waiting ready to go? on: November 19, 2017, 08:31:40 PM
Couldn't think of a short title to explain what I mean lol...

Recently got into bitcoin investing... Should have done it 5 years ago when I looked into it. Oh well... anyways... lol

I do stock investing with Robinhood. If anyone knows or uses it, with their gold membership, they give you a courtesy instant funds transfer upto 1K (or maybe 2K, I can't remember). So when I see a stock worth getting into, I go into Robinhood, initiate a transfer from my bank account and immediately I have about a 1,000 to invest with. Sometimes these things are so dynamic, I see an opportunity an hour (or minutes) before I decide to buy the stock. There is no fee taken out btw for the instant funds transfer (again, it's based on good faith that the bank account has the money and the transfer will complete)

I started using Gdax recently and figured I start off with about 100 dollars to invest with just so I can understand the dynamics of crypto exchange and I don't do forex or anything.

It took me 4 days to get the 100 dollars... during that time the bitcoin dropped from like 7500 to 5300ish and I could no nothing but watch this crazy drop as I waited for my money to come in... So I missed out on that  Angry

So my question is, what do you guys do? Have some USD waiting in an exchange just ready to purchase some stuff? Do you use coinbase and do the debit transfer and eat the 5% fee they charge? Is there some instant funds exchange like robinhood that I don't know about?

Would love to know what you guys do. I think this is exciting, but I want to make sure I'm taking all the benefits from things I may not yet know.

Thanks!

I understand what you mean, and do understand we see bitcoin as cash, and not exactly a bank account, but then I feel like bitcoin is a lose lose.

when I hand my friend 20 dollars over, it is an instant transfer with no fees. When I pay for a pack of gum at the shady stop and shop, we have no trust in each other, but he takes my money, checks to see if it's counterfeit and transaction is done. With 0 transfer fees. Sounds like USD is simpler and easier this way.

Now let's use a bank account example. If I send you 100 dollars right now because you're a nice person on here and deserve a donation (and you need that 100 dollars right now because your electric is about to be shut off today by COB unless you pay the 95 dollar bill, and you have no money) we can make this happen with alternative ways like zelle or venmo.

Now let's change the scenario to bitcoin...

I give my friend 20 dollars and use a low fee because he's in no rush. I lose a dollar on the transaction... ok.. oh well. lol

I pay for a pack of gum at the shady stop and shop. We don't trust each other. How will he feel if I give him money and he will hopefully get it tomorrow?

and the 100 dollar donation scenario. Well... it's not gonna work. You're screwed, you'd be better off me sending you zelle, or maybe an alt-coin. Bitcoin loses in all scenarios  Undecided

I'm new here and I'm not trying to dis anything. I just want to learn and understand it better. I bought .01 btc on gdax few days ago at 7950 and kept watching it drop to 7300 yesterday and today. Finally we broke 8000 USD and now it's going up and up. So I'm happy. I truly do see bitcoin going up and up, but I'm having a tough time understanding it's application in everyday life. I just see it as an investment tool as of now, because it sure makes money. I'd be a millionaire had I invested in this 5 years ago when I heard about it lol.
60  Other / Beginners & Help / How to make transfer fees efficient on: November 19, 2017, 07:30:31 PM
Hello,

Very new to cryptocurrency... I wish I got in on this game in around 2012 when I first looked into it. I'd be much richer than I am now... Oh well, better start now than later.

I had a question regarding transfer fees. I noticed the transfer fees are very high with bitcoin. I understand the fundementals of it, and grasp the basic idea. Unlike a bank that might charge you 10 dollars to send 100 dollars, bitcoin checks to see if you have 100x1 dollar bills, or 1x100 dollar bill (size of data being transferred for hashing?) Well I noticed with bitcoin, these fees can be very high... It really makes bitcoin inefficient for everday currency (imagine giving your friend 20 dollars via bitcoin... you might pay fees half as much).

So I'm here to understand how to make the transfer fees more efficient. Is that even possible?

Thanks!
