Is the LMB site broken? I never got the verification email after creating my account. Can't see any way to have it sent again either...
42  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Find Mark Karpeles and do _xxxxxx- to him on: February 25, 2014, 08:48:14 AM
What a great idea. Have fun going to jail.
43  Economy / Speculation / Re: POLL: Mark K's state of mind on: February 21, 2014, 06:52:49 AM
It's not a time of crisis as far as he's concerned. He already got rich off Bitcoin and doesn't care what happens from now on.
44  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 20, 2014, 07:43:49 AM
Whoever survives the Gox massacare has just quuintupled their BTC if they don't die of a heart attack first.  Wink

If they sold at the ATH they'd have 9x (and climbing) as many BTC right now.

I don't know if I should be jealous or happy. Depends how this all plays out.
45  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MUST WATCH: Account Holder Flies To Japan And Confronts MtGox CEO on: February 15, 2014, 12:15:50 AM
Why did the camera guy call it Mount Gox? Isn't it M.T.G.O.X.? lol

I call it Mount Gox. Never heard it said any other way.
46  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 12, 2014, 10:35:09 AM
I still want to see 200$ difference between Gox and everyone else Cheesy

That already happened.

...A week or two ago when Gox was $1000 and the others were $800 :p
47  Economy / Speculation / Re: A New Appreciation for Price Crashes on: February 11, 2014, 07:19:30 AM

I think a movement needs to be made for the standard denomination to be a mBTC rather than a BTC. People would love to buy in a get a couple hundred pieces rather than just 1 piece. Even though it's worth the same, intuitively more is better.

It doesn't matter since they still aren't getting a full BITCOIN!

One day they will realize that they've been duped. This is NOT a good idea. It's Bitcoin not mBitcoin.

What even is a "full bitcoin"? It's just a standard unit consisting of an arbitrary number of satoshis. A "bitcoin" could just as easily been 10 million satoshis rather than 100 million. Or perhaps 1 billion.

What if the protocol were EXACTLY the same as it is now, but bitcoin-qt was set to display 1BTC=1,000 satoshis? Despite the fact that you still own the same number of base units, you have more "full bitcoins". What's the difference?

Most people don't own any $1 million chunks. Why would they want to own $0.00365 million? It's such a small number.
48  Economy / Speculation / Re: Something is wrong. We cannot just gloss over the $100 sell on: February 11, 2014, 07:10:42 AM
In conclusion, I see both of these options as more probable than a dumb whale losing millions of dollars.

I don't. The sale was either a mistake (typo, etc), or it was made by an idiot. Perhaps they didn't check the order book before selling, and hence weren't aware how much the price would fall. Maybe they were drunk at the time and had a lapse in judgement.

If you wanted to manipulate the market and cause panic, selling your entire stash in one sale doesn't seem like the best way to do it - it gives away the fact that it's just one person doing it. You want people to think that everybody is selling all at once, so it'd be much more sensible to make multiple continuous sales of smaller amounts.

The $102 sale doesn't bother me at all. Someone really regrets it now, and that's the end of it as far as I'm concerned.
49  Economy / Speculation / Re: 790 people own half the bitcoins on: January 29, 2014, 08:34:14 AM
checking bitcoinrichlist.com/top100 positions 80 (also maybe 79) to 98 have the same last transaction in on Dec 25, 2013 11:26:40 PM. Each address holds about 10,000 coins.

So somebody owns about 180,000 coins = $145,800,000

Someone is trolling the top addresses by sending .000666 coins to them.

It certainly does not mean that each of those addresses are controlled by the same individual.

LOL.

I think that was the guy who claimed to have tracked down the Sheep Marketplace thief, but he had actually found a BTC-e wallet instead.

He thought that sending 666 satoshis to his wallet would mean that mixers don't work anymore.

I'm neither bull nor bear because, quite frankly, I haven't got a fucking clue what I'm doing. I guess I'm a bell. Anyway, we're still not seeing this huge crash which lots of people keep telling me is going to happen, and 31st is two days away... surely it's got to happen pretty quickly, as there doesn't seem to be too much more negative news on the horizon?

If there is a crash, it will be nothing but manipulation. If people seriously thought that there would be a crash on the 31st, shouldn't they be selling now in anticipation of it? Clearly there's not going to be a rally in the meantime, so there's nothing to miss out on. People are hodling* because they know there's no legitimate reason for a crash.

China is priced in to the market. It was priced in long ago.

* I am slightly drunk.
51  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Bitcoin Nightmare. on: January 27, 2014, 12:38:45 PM
It baffles me how anyone can do financial transactions on a system with free programs like Avast.  Pay a few bucks and get something that would give you way better security versus losing everything.  Lesson learned.

Something that would give you way better security? Like what?

Anti virus programs are a joke. All they detect are the low hanging fruit like MegaFreeMicrosoftWindow50000.doc.exe. I have no anti virus or other similar programs and I've never had a virus in my life. How? I patch all my software immediately upon a new version being released, and I don't open suspicious files.

You could have every anti virus program in the world installed at the same time, but if a sufficiently motivated attacker targets you, they're all worthless. Whilst they claim to use heuristics to detect new threats that they don't have a signature for, the heuristics are quite poor. It takes virtually no effort to write malware which is not detected by any anti virus.

I'm not saying DON'T use anti virus, but as others have mentioned, they are far from infallible. They give both false positives and false negatives. The paid ones are generally no better than the free ones, and in many cases they're worse.
52  Economy / Economics / Re: Has anyone noticed the bitcoin value seems to be decreasing? on: January 24, 2014, 06:41:56 AM
A few days ago bitcoins were at almost a 1000 per,but today i noticed that they are down by almost a 100 anyone else notice this?

Nope. You're the only one who noticed. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!
53  Economy / Speculation / Re: btc-e now has the biggest daily volume on: January 09, 2014, 12:43:15 AM

Any suggestions on how this was not done by BTC-e?
Only other possibility I see would be session hijacking or something like that. That would constitute to poor programming.

Someone with malware running on your computer could easily do what you described. Having a different password for your email wouldn't help if you're logged in to your email at the time (or have previously logged in - keylogger, etc).

Locking the screen only prevents someone physically sitting at the console from using it. It does nothing to a remote attacker.

Edit: Now his post is gone... He was accusing BTC-e of stealing 2 BTC from his account without sufficient evidence.

Wonder what effect the alibaba news will have on this news-sensitive market

The fact that it did anything at all shows how stupid traders are.

China doesn't like Bitcoin. We get it. It's old news now. You don't all need to panic sell every time China does something else bad. Factor China into your price and move on.
55  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 08, 2014, 12:40:12 AM

From here on out, either you're in bitcoin for the long haul and the protection of assets it provides or you're gonna lose most everything .... especially if you think you can out trade these guys with their trading algorithms, bots, deep pockets and propaganda machine ... they'll out psyche you every time and then take your money when you are beat ...

You've been warned. Get real or get out now.
What exactly do you mean by this? Do you think that they're going to manipulate so heavily that they can make it look like Bitcoin really is over for good (massive crash, etc), then buy up all the cheap coins as people sell out of desperation?
56  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 06, 2014, 08:28:56 AM
As Hyphymikey's posts show, people can take what is said here seriously and base their investment strategies on users comments

I can't believe that people actually do that. Nobody has ANYTHING to gain by giving the world advance notice of their trading intentions. The best thing to do is either ignore, or do the opposite of what large holders claim they will be doing in the near future.

A fool and their money...
57  Other / Off-topic / Re: If someone can find who this woman is, I would love to donate BTC to her on: January 06, 2014, 07:18:12 AM
Why is this in the Bitcoin Discussion Section?Huh  Huh

It should be deleted. Completely irrelevant to this entire forum.

Do all the pointless NSFW images on here annoy anyone else? It makes it impossible to read this forum unless I'm in private.

Ignoring doesn't really work because other people like to quote them.

r/bitcoin – 89,324 readers; 750 users here now

r/litecoin – 15,588; ~80

r/dogecoin – 15,085; 655

How funny is that? 2014 will clearly be the year of the Shiba Inu. Look at all the hype it's generat-err digging.

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I sold all my Dogecoins earlier today. It was funny for about a day, now it's just lame and painful to even think about.

People who are actually "investing" real money are insane.
60  Economy / Economics / Re: Alleged Top Moderators Of Silk Road 2 Forums Arrested In Ireland, U.S. In Intern on: December 21, 2013, 02:10:40 AM

Who's going to be stupid enough to start the next black market?

DPR is going to jail. Tomas from SM is either going to jail or getting murdered. SR2 people are probably going to jail.

But of course the next time will be different. Whoever starts the next one is smarter and won't get caught, right?
