41  Economy / Economics / Re: Electronic Money vs. Physical Money on: April 11, 2018, 08:29:10 AM
Many are still confused, not knowledgeable even, about bitcoin. I too is still learning about BTC and cryptocurrencies. I think, people need to embrace BTC before they will truly understand the difference between the electronic money from the physical money that we've been using ever since.
42  Economy / Economics / Re: Imagine a cashless society on: April 11, 2018, 07:31:58 AM
Just by using your phone, you could purchase almost anything. No need to withdraw on an atm. No more heavy coins on your pocket. Paying bills, and purchasing tickets without standing on a line. Very convenient and less time consuming. I know we're already using credit cards right now, but using a single currency like bitcoin world wide could really help on transaction, having less error than the normal and faster transfer and of course the security. Do you guys think this could happen in the future of bitcoin?
Actually cashless/paperless society is good for the nature. Papers come from trees, if paper bills wont be of use, lesser trees are needed so it means, lesser trees to be cut. However, many people will lose their jobs.

You see, there are other pros and cons if eventually we will have a cashless/paperless society.

44  Economy / Speculation / Re: The importance of staying positive, no matter what (the price is) on: April 10, 2018, 05:33:36 AM
Staying positive is quite difficult you know. Each of us is undergoing into different sufferings and trials, only ourselves know when it will end. On the other side, keeping the faith and staying positive is a great help to boost self-confidence and self-trust.
45  Local / Pamilihan / Re: PNB looks into use of bitcoin! on: April 10, 2018, 03:53:20 AM
TOP official of the Philippine National Bank (PNB) vows to study bitcoin amid Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) accepting stance on cryptocurrencies. PNB chair Flor Gozon Tarriela said they are looking at bitcoin and blockchain technology very cautiously but stressed the bank is not into it yet. “PNB will closely study the disruptions going on in the financial sector. We want to know more about the trends. We want to be aware of what is happening. But as to our plans to venture, we are not into it yet,” said Tarriela, adding that they are in the process of studying its dynamics and its possible effects to the banking business. A bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and worldwide payment system. It is the first decentralized digital currency, as the system works without a central bank or single administrator. While it recognized the potential benefits of virtual currencies as it facilitate the movement of funds at a much faster, cheaper, and convenient way, the BSP is equally cautious of the potential risks including illicit activities such as money laundering and terrorist financing.

It has advised the public that they have to be conscious of the opaqueness of transactions involving bitcoins. To minimize risks, the BSP encouraged existing and prospective virtual currency users to deal only with BSP-registered virtual currency exchanges and maintain only a sufficient amount of virtual currency enough to address transaction requirements. BSP warned that virtual currency users should properly secure their virtual currency holdings and observe security tips to protect the confidentiality and integrity of personal information and transaction details. “The BSP still has to issue regulations on this virtual currencies. But, we, in the banking industry advocate the know-your-customer first,” said Tarriela. PNB’s thrust this year is to go digital. Tarriela said they have launched mobile banking apps to cater to the needs of the tech-savvy market. “The way to go, really, is digital,” she said, adding that this will also help them reach out to the unbanked population.

That's a great news! At least may mga bangko na dito sa atin ang kumukilala sa bitcoin.. Unti-unti lalago na yan at marami pang bangko ang tutulad sa kanila.. Magantay lang tayo sa mga susunod pa..

48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: As a beginner is it too late ? on: April 10, 2018, 01:34:04 AM
Hello,

I'm still learning about crypto currencies and willing to buy some bitcoins. Is it good time to buy?

Thanks
This might be a cliche but here it goes.... It is better late than never. Who knows, you might be richer now after you've post this thread.
49  Other / Meta / Re: Look for quality posters not shitposters and merit abusers.. on: April 09, 2018, 06:04:25 AM
Oh, the irony.
Indeed.  I have OP on ignore, so the only reason I'm reading his post is because you quoted it.

We should look for people who haven't earned merit and who should.  I've been doing just that, but when it comes to lower-ranked members in particular, it is very hard to find good posts they've written.  The good ones are buried under a veritable mountain of trash--it's like finding a needle in a shitstack.  I will keep trying, and giving out merit to people who need it.  OP here isn't one of those.

Are you reading this, OP?  You are staying on ignore and will never earn a single merit point from me.  This is a transparent attempt (and badly written at that) to garner some sort of merit-sympathy, and it's been done to death by people who can barely get the right words out.  Not happening here, buddy.
Thanks for being honest dude. I just want to write this thread to keep something off my chest.. If someone notices this(which I think, it did), well and good, if none, then so be it.
50  Other / Meta / Look for quality posters not shitposters and merit abusers.. on: April 09, 2018, 12:26:51 AM
Ever since the merit system took effect, many forum members suddenly became aware of their posts and others. These past few months, there were many threads about merits abusers, shit posters and those whe gained merits but doesn't deserve it.

Since they had time looking for these members, maybe they also have time to look for members who create quality posts but don't get what they deserve.

It is just so annoying to read different titles of threads but they have the same topic actually.

Where you happy with the threads you created and made those abusive members famous? Did you truly get what you wanted for those abusers? So, instead of whinning about those who abuse merits and all why not look for those who truly deserve merits so they can rank up. At least you made someone happier and feel appreciated

51  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: April 08, 2018, 10:42:33 PM
In addition to activity, everyone now has a merit score, and you need both a certain activity level and a certain merit score in order to reach higher member ranks. The required scores are:

RankRequired activityRequired merit
Brand new00
Newbie10
Jr Member300
Member6010
Full Member120100
Sr. Member240250
Hero Member480500
LegendaryRandom in the range 775-10301000

You get merit points when someone sends you some for one of your posts. Additionally, when someone sends you merit points, half of those points can be sent by you to other people.

Certain users are designated as "merit sources". They can create new merit out of nothing, up to a limited number per month (which differs per source). I will not be posting a definitive list of merit sources (so that people don't bug them too much), though you'll soon figure out who they are if you pay attention.

There is currently no such thing as a "demerit". I'm hoping that the positive merits alone will be fine. I could add demerits pretty easily later on if necessary, though.

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

Do not beg for merit excessively.

Useful infographics

Forum users have helpfully created some infographics to explain the merit system:
paxmao's infographic
ibminer's infographic
8Habits's infographic
JetSet11's infographic
zentdex's infographic
alia_armelle's infographic

If you want to be a merit source:

 1. Be a somewhat established member.
 2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully.
 3. We will take a look at your history and maybe make you a source.

I am especially eager to have merit sources in sub-communities such as the local sections.

Trivia:

For current members, your initial merit score is equal to the minimum required to your rank. Of that, a certain amount (less than the usual half) is spendable. The spendable amount was calculated based on your current rank and the number of activity points you earned in the last year. A Legendary member who hasn't posted in the last year would still be Legendary, but would not have any spendable merit.

If someone sends you 1 merit, the 0.5 sMerit is not wasted; it is just not shown until you get another merit point.

There are stats here, and you can find someone's merit summary by clicking the "merit" link on their profile.
The merits system has rook effect a couple of months ago and i think it's been useful.  I hope everyone will take this seriously and all..
52  Other / Meta / Re: Don't give me merit on: April 06, 2018, 12:31:18 AM
If I was Sir Theymos I would put a temporary ban on merit threads. Like for three months any thread opened would be deleted and all suggestions would need to be done in the merit and new ranks requirements thread. It is tiring.

I wish I could give negative merit.

By the way, Sir Hilarious&co, how to become a Lamborghini member? I want to become one Smiley

Lol. I rally wish this will come true. It is so frustrating to read new threads everyday regarding their opinion about this merits system. When will  they learn to accept that such system really exist? Yes, we have this freedom of expression but it's really annoying now. At first, I give my sympathy, but now. Gosh, i really hope there is a negative merit.

I am sure we touched the bottom today. so i am going to real Estate Dealer for selling my house and buy bitcoin. I suggest you all do that
If that's your plan then so be it. I just hope when time comes that bitcoin and other coins are into its lowest value I hope you have enough money to buy yourself and your family a house to keep you warm when it's cold and raining and keep you safe in times of calamities and disasters.
54  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism, "paraphrasing" and copy/paste on: April 03, 2018, 02:58:41 AM
I salute you dude for finding these things. You are a Super detective.
But 'Plagiarism is the highest form of flattery'  I just quote it.  I just read it and forgot the author. I might accused of plagiarism on this.
But we don't know the reasons of these people. Maybe they wanted to have merits or may be they are just lazy to think and copy someone else's ideas. Hopefully, they will all be looked into and give proper judgement..

56  Other / Meta / Re: New new rank requirements on: April 02, 2018, 02:40:03 AM
While merit improved things a lot, clearly more adjustments were necessary. Therefore, some new rank requirements have been added in addition to the old requirements.

The new rank components are:

Activity & Merit
As before.

Politeness
How polite you have been in your posts, using language such as "please" and "sir". Politeness is after all the cornerstone of any good community.

fMerit
An obvious extension on top of Merit, sMerit, and source merit. It is calculated using this simple formula:
Code:
min((1103515245*(uid+activity)+12345) % (1<<10),(1103515245*posts+12345) % (1<<10), (1103515245*merit+12345) % (1<<10))

Imagination
Bitcoin would not even exist without Satoshi's impressive imagination, so I've decided to take this into account on the forum. Imaginative people are those who have posted many images.

Virtue
This is an upright, God-fearing community which will suffer no witchcraft or other heresy. This stat measures your moral virtue. Warning: those with low virtue may be visited by the holy inquisition.

Coins
How many different coins you have invested in. A good Bitcointalker will maintain a reasonable balance between conservative (100% yearly return) and aggressive (7% weekly return) tokens/coins.

Karma
This is how many non-scammer trust ratings you have both sent and received. Due to our strict moderation of the trust system, this is sure to be a highly reliable measure of your reliability vis-à-vis the trust system.

Previously a lot of people were posting questions about the ranking system, so I decided to simplify it. Just put the highest-order 10 bits of each number into a grid in this configuration:

Then run Conway's Game of Life on the cells. If the cells never stop moving even after infinite steps, then you advance to the next rank.

For example, consider someone with these stats:
Quote
Merit: 40
Activity: 56
Politeness: 36
fMerit: 56
Imagination: 36
Virtue: 40
Coins: 56
Karma: 40
This gives you a grid like:

This never ends, so the person will advance in rank.

Rank adjustments happen every week on Tuesday, and you can only go up 1 rank per week.

Hopefully this easy-to-understand, graphical ranking system will put to rest many users' questions and concerns once and for all.
Finally, i have read the explanation of the new updates. Hopefully, these updates will be easier especially for the new ones in this forum Thanks!  Wink Wink Cheesy
57  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I would rather have paper money then Bitcoin on: March 30, 2018, 10:23:36 PM
Bitcoin is not for everyone and for that reason a true mass adoption is under big question.
You can use Bitcoins in your everday life as easy and convenient as any fiat currency but you have to know how to use it and know the mechanisms that could make this easier, like Bitcoin debit cards. Knowledge and informations are very important for every Bitcoin user.
You got it right there. Honestly, i am not that knowledgeable about bitcoin yet so I don't like to do harsh decisions. I need to read more and research more to make the right decisions so i wont regret in the end.
58  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Philippines to develop rules on cryptocurrency trading? on: March 30, 2018, 09:57:10 PM
MANILA (Reuters) - The Philippines’ Securities and Exchange Commission said on Monday it is crafting rules to regulate cryptocurrency transactions to protect investors and reduce the risk of fraud.  The regulation, which will cover issuance and registration of cryptocurrencies, is expected to be finalised this year, said Emilio Aquino, SEC commissioner in charge of enforcement and investor protection.

“We need to act because initial coin offerings (ICOs) are sprouting especially in 2017. We want to come up with our own set of regulations,” Aquino told a news conference. “You have to be extra careful how investors in this new space are protected.”
Authorities around the world, particularly in Asia, have attempted to rein in the global boom in trading bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies - a form of digital money created and maintained by its users.

Chinese authorities have banned initial coin offerings and shut down local trading platforms, while South Korea - where speculation on cryptocurrencies is also rife - is working on plans to ban virtual coin exchanges.

The regulation on ICOs will include guidelines on cybersecurity of cryptocurrency markets, eligibility of issuers including the officials and technology utilized, and financial literacy of investors, Aquino said.

The corporate regulator has yet to approve any public sale of cryptocurrencies and is investigating unlicensed sellers.
“Unfortunately, there have been a lot of cases where ICO promoters vanish into thin air. We don’t want that to happen here,” Aquino said.
Hackers last week stole $530 million worth of digital money from Tokyo-based cryptocurrency exchange Coincheck Inc in one of the biggest-ever thefts of digital money.  (source:  https://www.reuters.com/article/us-philippines-cryptocurrency/philippines-to-develop-rules-on-cryptocurrency-trading-idUSKBN1FI0NK)

59  Other / Meta / Re: Separate Local Board on: March 30, 2018, 09:42:07 PM
Hello from Ukraine  Smiley.

Few days ago I sent this message to Cyrus, probably he has a lot of work for a response.

Wanna ask in this thread about Ukrainian separate board.

Yeah, for now our thread isn't very active, most people are yelling about separate board.

But if you look at لعربية (Arabic), עברית (Hebrew) or 한국어 (Korean) boards, there also not so active as others, but still, they have separate board.

I do not wrote this post with claims or demands, I just wanna to understand the policy of the forum.

Thanks!  Smiley
Everybody deserves to have theie own separate forum. I think the others, the other forums you mentioned where active before and have been inactive for quite sometime. O dont know there reasons though. I do hope you will havw your own. Just be patient and keep on asking the admins.
60  Other / Politics & Society / Re: If marriages can expire, will you still renew? on: March 29, 2018, 10:26:34 AM
I have come across this Facebook posting about marriage. Many have declined the offer but some, including wives who are victims of domestic violence ought to never renew given the circumstance. For me, i will still renew.. marriage comes with a lot of changes and adjusting to do, clashes are bound to happen but take note that marriage is sacred as well as vows. Prayers do make a lot of difference in Changing your partners behavior.
If not renewing or renewing the contract is a law already, and if the marriages is bound to break anyway, i wont renew mine. I will myself be free from any stress and be free as much as possible.
