Thanks simbo, very helpful indeed!
This is such a shame...  how do you store transaction data outside the blockchain in a provably fair manner, as this can be done in the blockchain itself?
44  Bitcoin / Project Development / Embedding messages in transactions on: January 06, 2014, 06:18:27 PM
Hi,

Can you help me with a question. As most know, Bitcoin's protocol supports embedding an 80 byte-long message per transaction - https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/2738

I downloaded the QT client of Litecoin and Primecoin - both look the same and there is no field for embedding a message. I asked in litecoin's forum but no one can answer me.

Does someone here maybe know if the alt currencies support such a feature or they need to develop it yet. I only know that Nextcoin does too.

Thanks

46  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [IDEA] MP3 with Bitcoin Address on: January 05, 2014, 09:26:11 AM
However I did manage this
https://soundcloud.com/theogoodman/71dxegs6y5aqypuhl1eoyaljubppnp
There is a QR code embeded into the song, let me know if you have figured out how to get it out.

How and where did you embed it? It won't be possible to get it out at SoundCloud unless SoundCloud collaborate.

Could we gather a team to make a simple BitCoin-SoundCloud with this simple functionality:

 - Uploaders should embed their public address in some of the MP3 tag fields
 - When creating an account, users can choose to upload some BTC in their account, or decide to pay on a case to case basis, thus having no risk at all.

The per-pay function may incorporate some BlockChain.info API or bitcoin wallet addons for Chrome where the payment should happen with a simple click.

I think most of the user interface, streaming functionality can be found for free on the web.
What needs to be done is public address embedding and payment functionality...
47  Bitcoin / Project Development / [IDEA] MP3 with Bitcoin Address on: January 01, 2014, 08:54:51 PM
I searched for a similar discussion here but could not find any.

I wondered if there already is a tool which would allow users to easily pay for MP3 tracks they listen to online. Let's take www.soundcloud.com for example.

First, upon upload, the artist should provide his track with a unique public address where payments will be sent. Then, when I am listening to it, a small prompt next to the track could ask if I would like to support or thank this artist by a small donation. When I click confirm, it should initiate the whole transaction - through a script within soundcloud, or maybe a chrome add-on...

You get the idea... Some additional features I thought about are: paying customers might have some added benefits (like high quality download), each track may have addresses in many different crypto currencies, charts for most listened songs will be public, easy to calculate and easy to verify for manipulation by inspecting the block chains, etc.

Of course, the main use of such service today would be promoting the use of crypto-currencies for micro payments. Is something similar already underway?

I have a feeling that many crypto-supporters will choose to use such a service just to show the numerous artists and DJs a nice and fair revenue option. This should start the ball for them rolling...

Thanks for reading and a Happy New 2014
48  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Source Code for SHA512 on MS Excel or spreadsheet app? Provably Fair Poker on: December 22, 2013, 09:12:30 PM
Regarding the provably fair poker you need to contact an already working online poker network - I have contacts to many of them and could help you with this if you have the idea how to make such a provably fair random generator.

Such a site will kill Stars, iPoker and all - and they will fight you way more than currently banks fight the bitcoin based businesses.

The issue with a provably fair poker is how you want to implement it in such a way that no one is able to see the cards dealt to other players while proving your fairness...

I have read many ideas on proving poker fairness the crypto-way but none of them has the power and simplicity used by SatoshiDice to prove they are fair... Tell me yours.

P.S. I am the owner of www.igrach.com

It is very well explained here how there is a Bitcoin network and bitcoin currency (beware the capital letters Smiley) And why the one derives its value form the other:

50  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTCs intrinsic value = Trust; Confirmed by recent market action on: December 07, 2013, 04:43:44 PM
The blockchain is what gives bitcoin its intrinsic value: just as gold has a lot of uses apart from it being "money", the block chain has multiple world changing uses apart from being a way of transferring value.

I absolutely agree but struggle with something: How do the blockchain's "multiple world changing uses" give value to the bitcoins themselves?
51  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did China just legalize Bitcoin, clarify regulation, for its free market use? on: December 07, 2013, 09:54:25 AM
Relax, this is the cool thing about Bitcoin - no one can ban it as long as he/she cannot ban the internet Smiley

This dump is something very positive for bitcoin - it will just punish people who bought it for mere speculation. Who told you that the fair price is $1000? It was just a good dream come true.

For the non-speculators, this dump will make it possible to develop bitcoin-based businesses. Such businesses are currently being developed and soon will start attracting customers with services not available in for fiat money. An example: free sports-betting where no limitation is feasible.

Even if China did outlaw bitcoin and all Chinese said "No" to it, China is not the world. It would only mean 20-30% lower equilibrium price. So what?

And last, bitcoin's revolution is not as a medium of exchange but as a way of keeping records. The new technologies building upon it, like Colored coins, Mastercoin, will do the revolution.

https://cex.io/calc

54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Need to switch to mBTC soon on: November 30, 2013, 01:25:51 PM
I also agree with the OP and most of the comments that a switch to mBTC is necessary for the broader adoption of BTC.

At the same time though, this high price of BTC gives chance to all the altcoins there for obvious reasons - they feel cheap Smiley

What I wanted to discuss is a bit different. It concerns the limited number of bitcoins in the protocol.

As I do not understand the protocol perfectly, I want to ask this: Is it possible for the Bitcoin Foundation to decide at some point that all balances in all addresses in the block chain should be multiplied by 100 and thereby implicitly increase the money supply?

I understand that "taking three zeros from the decimals" and starting to quote the price in mBTC partly solves the problem but imagine the time comes when we are out of zeros...

Thanks

Smiley?
56  Local / Other languages/locations / Re: Български on: November 27, 2013, 01:13:21 PM

Peace Smiley

Smiley
