41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BALLOONUM.IO [No premine] [Balloon algo] [CPU mining only!] on: July 14, 2019, 12:42:27 AM
Ok well where to start, first of all this PoW algo has been available over GPU (nvidia & amd) for at least a year, so this wont be a CPU coin for long.  Amd here: https://github.com/Belgarion/clballoon and nvidia here: https://github.com/Belgarion/cuballoon.

Also i've download the wallet and mined a little and investigate into how it worked.  So first of all this aint a local wallet, its a web wallet.  All it does is polling every 5 seconds the web server to see if it has something new to mine (https://node1.balloonum.io/server.php?q=getminingtemplate.   Using json as the communication format like this response:

{"id":"test","jsonrpc":"1.0","result":{"height":222,"prevhash":"2ySnAjx6DgbfR8Xn8XQFW9FnoiuG1A33FDmgRYNq4zMG4k5NMxtWkrPv4p34urk2ajbFPVB7GnRUvX6 SeVZ7wth9","difficulty":42812734}}

If you type "getbalance" it request balance on server (passing your public address).

Up to there its meh but its ok, nothing we haven't seen before.

Now where it gets more fun is when you find a block, its submitting the nonce, public key and......... the private key!

Here a capture of it (You can steal my key if you want for a free 15 BALL reward!)

I personnaly wont mine anything where i send my private key to a web server, even if its in HTTPS.  This mean they have all private keys at their end....  And since theres no P2P at all, it might not even be a blockchain and/or a network.  It could only be a web server database, if so then how is that immutable, what are we even mining with pow?

Im sorry, im staying as far as i can from this, do your homework!  This balloon has busted!

All serious crypto entusiasts know high exchange volumes are fake volumes, so my conclusion is I can forget coinmarketcap.

Well marketcap over coins itself doesnt mean much neither...

Yes, only emittet coins can count for marketcap. I could create a 1 billion pieces coin and sell one only for 1 USD, and I could advertise it as a 1 billion USD marketcap coin.

Hmmm are you telling me that XRP aint really worth 16.5B$ ? What a shock! Smiley

Look at Bitcoin2, a great example of inflated mcap with low volume and large supply acquired by a simple fork!

Remote nodes (light wallet) is on the roadmap, check out https://zano.org/roadmap.html

Its currently under development as we speak, lucky you!

What are some hash rates you guys are seeing?

Hi jezabel, please join zano discord, theres a #gpu-benchmarks channel over there and a #mining-talk channel if you have questions...

here the link: https://discord.gg/Gzc3YN3

Hope to see you there!

Poloniex.com is withholding approx 42000 of my BBR. How long do we have for the swap, and could the period of 1:1 be extended for such special cases ?

If there is anyone else in my situation with Poloniex, do say so. I have tried to withdraw these BBR for the last 3 years and they have simply ignored my withdrawal requests AND tickets regarding BBR, while responding to others. Extremely fishy behaviour that.... i will say later what it felt like, if the problems are not solved. I am still hopeful they will see the light. They are now "investigating" . SERIOUSLY . INVESTIGATING.

Hey there, team announced they will activate the swap before June 1st and the 1:1 ratio will last for 3 months, then will decay over the next 9 months.  I've heard some stories like yours about people having BBR stucked over a delisting exchange, i have no clue if anyone every succeed withdrawing a delisted coin balance.  If anyone knows someone, please give a hand to this guy!

Also team released a medium article today for a recap of the first week of mainnet: https://medium.com/@zano_project/a-week-into-mainnet-de21a07a6b7d

Please have a look!

@crypto_zoidberg     is ProgPowZ a private mining app.?  Is it open source?

https://github.com/hyle-team/progminer

Thanks  Smiley Appreciate that.

You welcome, basicly they just did a minor change over the current progpow, unfortunatly they are using 0.9.2 right now since 0.9.3 source aint public for now...

Zano will use ProgPOW.

Actually its ProgPowZ, they did a variant of ProgPow, to avoid cloud mining disruption...

......

Lol so prickly. What is the argument for not just keeping 1:1 swap open for an indefinite or years long period?

Also, I wish I lived under a rock - bat cave living sounds pretty nice, probably save a bundle on heating and cooling costs.

Anyway, 20% premine is pretty bold move. You can say what you want about Monero, but they have managed to retain the top spot among privacy coins without any premine. Zcash has an effective 10% premine, maybe 13-18% depending how you weight their taking 20% in first four years. This isn't 2014 and I understand premines have become somewhat more acceptable in the age of ICO-scams and its aftermath, but I think there is probably a strong overlap between folks interested in privacy coins and those interested in a fair launch. Maybe I'm wrong, we shall see.

Hi jwinterm!
First of all - thank you for your interest to my work!

Regarding premine just want to mention - you never know how the current leader of Monero would launch this project(if he had a chance), because as you know Monero was not launched by him.
I mean - it was given without premine, and it was taken "as is" - with the running network, with the cryptography, with codebase,  with the privacy philosophy.

So, I wouldn't put this as good an example for comparing.

Given that Monero was always seen as Boolberry's closest "competitor" or whatever, I think it's the most apt comparison, especially since this appears to be Boolberry_v2. What do you see as the more appropriate comparison?

Anyway, I just think 20% is a lot, especially since I assume that 20% could then be compounded via staking, but I guess if you're going to do a premine you might as well not do it half-assed.

Yeah i dont think he meant techwise thou, i believe he meant from a logistics perspective.  Zano team worked for about 2 years over this code base, while monero inherited a tech that was already developped by another group. Also to me the percentage aint THAT important, its important based on what it represent.  Lets compare a 10% of a coin that launch at a 50M$ and a 20% over another coin that launch at 5M$.  From a sustainable perspective, team needs a % high enough to cover operation cost based on some hypothethical short/middle term valuation.

I mean if team knew this would worth 50M$ in 6 months from now, im sure they wouldnt need 20% (10M$), its all about short/middle term valuation.  Aim to low you gonna starve aim to high you gonna afraid investors and could also break trust if valuation is high and premine % is too high.  I see it as a safe bet and im sure team could reconsider if this easily cover operation costs...

For me what is really wrong is a 4 team member project raising 10M$ at launch of mainnet, cought veriblock... Smiley

Unless they wanted to last 15 years over that pile of cash! Smiley

PoW already ended?

PoW ended at announcement, sounds pretty much like a premine to me...

How many repetitive coin project that we need?

Btw, my friend own zano.com domain name.

He hold this domain name for 1 big fintech project.

He and his group even reg trademark the "zano"  name.

Hope it not gonna get conflict with this project.

Since you're both share similar name.

They already spend hundred of k to develop 1 fintech mobile application that they were ready to launch at any time.

I will show him this thread.

Zano is a short catchy name, like many in crypto, its not unusual to clash with real world names, a quick search will tell you that.

Here zano is used by a kickstarted project for drones: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/torquing/zano-autonomous-intelligent-swarming-nano-drone
And here you can find a trademark registered for a food company: https://trademarks.justia.com/856/42/zano-85642647.html

As for being repetitive this aint just a plain fork from a github repo like most coins.   I wouldn't call MimbleWimble a repetitive coin project just like i would call zano one either, they wrote most of the code in both case.

Heres one for GRIN: https://trademarks.justia.com/776/37/grin-77637877.html

https://www.grin.com/

You get the point i guess!

You can create a restaurant company and called it uber, no problem with that as uber trademark only cover in "mobile, transport" area.
Just an example.

It's similar to zano. the trademark only cover in financial, mobile app, software, website, i.t related area.
So you can use that name for restaurant, food and beverage with no issue.

And what about GRIN?   It's a tech company as well.  This argument apply to so many projects, ive been hearing that for years.

As for DeepOnion i tend to disagree, but this is personal opinions, so i'm ok with you believing its very good and me believing it aint.  As for creative devs, i would look closer to this team background if i was you, you cant really find more creative than these guys.  I would really recommend you dig deeper several years back in crypto (like 2013-2014).

"How many repetitive coin project that we need?" What, how is this a repetitive coin?

Its another coin/blockchain project with different flavor.

Sorry, but I dont think people really desperate/need for another coin.
There are already thousands of coins.

Hope you say the same thing about DeepOnion Smiley

Members of the Grimble community, like you may have noticed, we have recently been targeted by a major FUD campaign sponsored by Bitgrin & co. Yes, it is true that we have been trying to sell  some coins in order to keep improving and developing Grimble. However, do not trust everything you see. Bitcointalk / Twitter is a very toxic environment nowadays, Lies, fraud and manipulation are not out of the ordinary.  The incentives are clear, bitgrin is trying to make sure their 840,000 coin "development funds" will bring them the hoookers & blow they desire. Meanwhile, our team will focus on development for now, and try to stay out of the spotlights.

If you think you can contribute, our DM's are always open. If not, all the best of luck to you.

See you soon,

Team Grimble

"SOME"? Selling 50k before every other holders and when that 50k represent 30% of the supply ain't just "SOME".  It's at BEST rude at worst scammy.  You could have EASILY wait for the price discovery phase to be over.   And that price was FAR LOWER than what you tried to get there, you literally tried to run with it and failed.

For me the worst part aint really the amount you tried to sell, but mostly the time, you hurried to dump before everyone else had the time to mature some coins, having sold 50k after a few weeks could have been understandable to some extent with good justification, but that timing was just WRONG.

it look bad but its a bit more than a day of mining.  That alone doesn't make it bad.
