no i do not think its a mad max outcome or a biblical  thingy. Yes i'm a scientist AND believe in GODS.. viking gods to be exact... who doesn't want to go to a hall and drink beer/mead and battle the forces of evil in the afterlife  Grin Just kidding hehe
I think those in power will remain in power. They control a lot if not nearly everything. Thanks to Snowden we now know that secret services from every country, or nearly every country, is using some kind of surveillance on their citizens. I think these banksters and filthy rich have read up on Sun tzu:

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
― Sun Tzu, The Art of War.

I think that is the reason  for all this data collecting. Knowledge is power. All under the guise of " preventing terror attacks" but meanwhile just harvesting other innocent peoples data. Personally if the NSA should look me up the only thing they will find is that i talk too much on the phone(hands free) even when I"m driving ( yeah NSA you got me there  i'm a bad bad bad man  Grin ), am a comic book and coin collector, l do a lot of volunteer work, love bitcoins, etc No real secrets there Smiley

I'm also a scientist with multiple master degrees from excellent universities here in Europe. I think everyone needs to express themselves on every topic. Banning people that do not agree with your views is egocentric and very close minded. It reminds me of practices that have been utilized by many dictatorships (During regimes of Stalin and other Junta regimes).
I've written a lot of papers and some people in the academic world just focuses in on the "convenient " facts and ignore the rest (some never mention them). THis makes that particular research very bad in my opinion and this is also the view of many other professors.
Having said that do I think there is global warming happening? YES. Enough data, research is available to support that claim.
Is it "our fault"? Well that's where I'm not that certain. In My opinion it is a contribution of factors.  Vulcano activities ( some produce more CO2 than all the countries combine) and of course we all have contributed to it as well.
What I detest are people like AL Gore. Prominent members of society that want to profit of someone's fears to make a huge profit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8r-hNfHXXY
Here is that vulture being grilled about his power consumption, his financial transactions like having bought stocks of alternate energy companies (wind and solar power) before his move came out. After the movie there was such a buzz and the stocks of those companies skyrocketed. "Before he left he was 2 million dollar worth but now its 100 million". A nice pump and dump if I ever saw one  Smiley
It's because people like Al " big bankster" Gore that there are so many nay sayers.
But there are much better and more reputable role models out there that are actually concerned about global warming.

51  Economy / Economics / Re: European Union is robbing its citizens' bank accounts. 9.9% to be confiscated. on: December 17, 2013, 11:07:42 AM
I'm just convinced that we cannot do completely without.

Humans cannot have a society in complete freedom and they cannot have a society under complete control.

I hear you saying that but that doesn't make it true. You are so convinced of your opinion, that you are willing to use force against me and other people that don't share your opinion. You refuse my right to act on my own beliefs. I reject this and refuse to obey rules that go against my conscience. As long as I am not harming anyone, I reject that anyone has the right to tell me what to do.

I see a future in which you will have to use increasing amounts of force to make people obey. It will create an opposite reaction and you will have to throw many in jail or kill them if they resist.

In my opinion you fail to see that you're part of the problem, not the solution.

Well, i haven't told you what to do at all.
I just told you a little bit about how the world works.

I also have hopes for humanity but they are distant because i understand that a real solution can only be found in biological changes to our species.
And these changes, if successfully selected for naturally, take time to spread because genetics is pretty amazingly slow compared to a human life.

Of course its a different thing when you're oppressed by your government.
That's absolutely undesirable and should be prevented at any cost. Power of the people and all that.
I agree that many things need to change. But its impossible to just swap out the ground rules of the global chess game while its being played. Real changes take time and have big consequences.
That's why real revolutions usually are bloody.  Lips sealed

I completely agree with mobodick's views on this matter. To all the nay sayers and those that do not think mobodick is right I suggest that you read some history. The current system is one of the best, so far, we had. The problem, like with all kind of governments is the corruption level. Every man has its price. Also some may think that communism is a better way to go but it failed horribly and was equally plagued by the same problems as the democracy system.
A "society" that has no government and no "policing force" is doomed to fail and you are probably thinking of some clan kinship tribe thing. That wouldn't work either because you will always have some form of leader or governing body. "the freedom to do whatever i want when i want" is an Utopian view on things. It just doesn't work. A prime example is Afghanistan during the rule of the Taliban. Rapes, summary executions, etc because there is no governing body or policing force to stop it etc.
Do you really think that the ruling elite will give their power up willingly? No they will keep the reigns in their hands and no one else. that is reality. If you think otherwise that is your right but you do not know how the real world works. This is can be explained that you maybe a teen and do not have actually real world experience.
Did I say this democracy is the best thing that ever happened? Well on paper YES, but in reality? no but it is a far better system than we had in earlier times.
52  Economy / Economics / Re: European Union is robbing its citizens' bank accounts. 9.9% to be confiscated. on: December 17, 2013, 10:30:50 AM
That cyprus thing is the same as the Icelandic people had/have to deal with. Iceland has it even worse since nearly every Icelander has to pay back all the loss form the Isave banksters. After the people are neraly drained and the EU is in trouble.. low and behold "Das Gösses Deutsches Reich" will save the day... but at a price. While most countries are struggling because they get hit left , right and center by companies that are leaving etc gladly accept the German's help. ANd seeing that the average politician doesn't have any brains at all, even most of them have multiple masters degrees from "reputable universities", and just agree with the German "aid" do not read the small letters in the contract..something I advice EVERYONE to do.
So conclusion the hardworking, normal people are slapped in the face yet again. Look at Greece (politicians go behind the backs of the people to get huge loans that Greece never could afford). Then the crises hit, Greece can't pay up and gets nearly drowned. Who are the instigators? the politicians and the banksters ( goldman sachs is one of them). Who is suffering? not the pricks that made the mistakes and also not the filthy rich (who could actually pay that loan 50 times over) It's Jack and Jane Public that are paying for their mistakes.
The fact that the filthy rich are now buying up huge parcels of land all over the south of Europe, and also in Greece, may be an indicator that the "crisis" was just a ploy to scam the regular people out of their hard earned money.
Low and behold now bitcoin and other crypto currencies are on the rise the banks and the filthy rich want a huge part of the pie but can't have any. SO like little children they throw a tantrum and activate their well oiled and funded lobby and PR machine to discredit crypto currencies. If they, with all their power and wealth didn't feel threatened in any way they wouldn't make a fuss about it.
53  Economy / Services / Re: Psychotherapy for bitcents on: December 17, 2013, 10:09:09 AM
Personally I think this is a great concept... if it works in tandem with an actual doctor you can visit and have a face to face. So if you have a practice, a place you work out that your patients can visit and can contact you using your web page and ask advice etc that would work excellent.

Having said that you have to understand that on the net anybody can claim anything like saying I"m a university professor at oxford/Cambridge/Harvard university, I speak 12 languages fluently, I have 5 hot rods, etc .... but you get the picture. Even matters of the hart, like people searching for a partner, have been scammed silly. But you get the picture on the net ANYONE can claim ANYTHING and give FAKE credentials. ANd yes a healthy dose of paranoia is good for you! Since scammers are getting more sophisticated in their scamming methods.

Are you a scammer in my opinion? Maybe so, maybe not. I do not like to respond in yes /no or 0 and 1  Smiley Is there a possibility that this can be a scam? The probability goes up since you will try to diagnose someone you never seen, heard or met in person so how do you know that what they are saying is even real? what about a patient that says that he/she is seeing ghosts and that are constantly attacking him/her(he/she has the photos to prove it) what do you recommend? A couple of sleeping pills and a pat on the back saying "it will be alright"? Or just say "hey go and call your local paranormal gi joe's and gi janes to come and deal with your problems?
Furthermore the "real" doctors do not take advice or "help" from other doctors kindly. They want to make up their own mind. If a regular doctor says I will refer you to this doctor because  this or that and I will make an appointment for you ok but from what I've read what you do is this: communicate with potential patient by mail ( besides from obvious problems here How are you going to make a correct diagnose when you do not see the patient? People can claim this and that but how do you know it is real?  if you have had any medical training you would know that a" hands on approach" in person is the best way in analyzing the problem and then giving the people the RIGHT treatment.

Sorry about trashing and bashing nearly all your claims but you have to reverse the roles for a second. If I claim that I'm a doctor and you are my patient and we ONLY communicate through mail.. would you go for that? NO  you wouldn't because you would choose, just like everyone else, a "real" doctor that has an established practice. Just throwing in some info about my doctor: he has a practice that he shares with 9 other doctors ( some are specialized in certain areas of medicine). He is also forward thinking and has a "digital waiting room" where you can log in and make an appointment. Just saying that if you are indeed a "real doctor" with a "real" medical degree you should do something like that.

Conclusion: personally I think what you're proposing is not a clever idea. If someone with an IT background can do this but a doctor no. you have to have interaction with your patients.
These are my contribution to  this discussion  Grin
54  Economy / Services / Re: Selling ideas on: December 17, 2013, 09:27:52 AM
Selling ideas.. well I have my doubts. everyone has great ideas from time to time. Having a great idea isn't a guarantee for success. Luck does play a huge part as is timing, meeting the right people, etc. Furthermore you can claim you're an "expert" or "specialist" and that "you had such great ideas". There isn't a record of them and frankly it's the internet. everybody can say what he/she wants to portray themselves. I can claim that I'm a professor at Oxford/Harvard university with 12 houses 5 Ferrari's, 2 hot rods, 1 rat rod, a bunch of mistresses, all my ideas are "winners", etc. So be careful whom to trust. This smells like a scam in my opinion. Stranger things have been used before like desperate dudes and dudettes in search for love abroad. Some of these people were scammed for 10k pounds or more.

I do not know you and you could be a genuine youngster with some excellent ideas but not the capital to work it out. Then I have some advice for you. Take it or leave it, that is up 2 you. You can work out some of your ideas to a certain point, so its sell-able. Then you go to some major companies or financiers and tell them what your idea is but do not focus too much on the idea itself but rather on the end result. (just basic marketing strategies actually). If you are a great salesperson, yes you can learn it to be, you can sell your ideas , provided that they are well put together. Abstract ideas NEVER sell or you have to finance it yourself, which is doubtful since you are asking people to buy your ideas. (that aren't worked out at all from what I can see).

Sorry for slamming you pretty hard but I call like I see them. but I gave you some free advice as compensation Smiley
55  Economy / Economics / Re: Why Bitcoin is ultimately doomed to fail (not today or tomorrow) on: December 16, 2013, 11:47:36 AM
The last bitcoin will be mined in 2140 or so, we won't live to see it happen and the world will be so different then I doubt we will even have a monetary system at all. At least not something that resembles anything we have now. Bitcoin will be long gone before that time, a currency's timespan is no longer than 40-50 years if you look at history. No reason to think it will be any different this time.

It may well be so as you picture it, but actually that was not my point... Some people here (and there) draw bright prospects for Bitcoin when and if it becomes a legal tender or a means of exchange. So I was trying to give some cogent reasons why this is not going to happen at all (as opposed to "just not any time soon")...

True. and the fact that the banks and every other "expert" in financial publications is trying to convince people that Bitcoin is "bad" risk  and "you will never see your money again". Or that bitcoin is only used by criminals ( like an article in the financial times that hinted on that which I find poor taste.). The same arguments can be implemented when discussing the use of physical monetary systems. up to 90% of the US bills have cocaine and/or other drugs on them.
It can also be argued that because the banks and their efficiant lobby system is creating such a fuss about crypto currencies is that they are feeling threatened by it. Why? because they can't control or skim of some of the daily earnings. SO there is no money in it for the banks(or they just need to buy bitcoins and start trading like everybody else Smiley ). Now IF a bank came up with the idea of crypto currency and worked it out it would be heralded in the media as the "new holy grail" of doing business etc.
So if the governments accept bitcoin as a "legal currency" there will be a huge set of restrictions and the whole tshebeng will under the supervision and control of the banks or bank related institutions. That way they can take their part of the daily trade in bitcoin and other crypto currencies.
If the governments don't accept it  well it can go different ways. If a government, say the US, finds or fabricates "evidence" that some terrorist douchbags are using bitcoins or other currencies they could confiscate every single bitcoin from its citizens. It can and it will see the amendments to the constitution and even that isn't necessary. Just blame it on the NSA or CIA or FBI and  when public opinion is running against the ruling elite just fire the top dog of those institutions, use the media to smear it out and focus on the "new CIA, NSA, FBI or whatever organisation Smiley
It may be far fetched for some but Ive been around a while and seen a lot of this backstabbing, double standards, back alley trading, and manipulative behavior that it wouldn't surprise me when it happens.
56  Economy / Economics / Re: Greece, the EU, and Bitcoins on: December 16, 2013, 11:25:26 AM
The greek problems began when the greek government went to goldman sachs bank and asked for a huge loan, witch Greece never could afford. Greece needed the capital to get the "ok" to join the European community. They deliberately hid that information from its people and also the European "watchdogs". Did the European watchdogs, regulation institutions and Euro ministers not know of this "back alley deal with goldman sachs? I do have my doubts but somewhere somebody should have known. My suspicion meter went waaaaay up when the media did its best to not hit that particular subject( that the EU knew of the back alley deal and didn't care anyway). SO i think somebody screwed the pooch somewhere.
It can also be a plot by the ruling elite to buy up huge pieces of lands very cheaply. They can sell them at a later date or, more likely, develop the land by building factories, apartments office buildings, etc. That way they will be portrayed as "the captains of industry that saved Greece" in the media. Just read some articles in financial papers and journals. I even came across an article in "der spiegel" where they interviewed a business tycoon that is buying up great pieces of land. So you can read between the lines Smiley
So transparency is the way to go for governments so people and journalists alike can examine the expenditures a bit better... but then you have creative accountants that are corrupt and employed by that same government...
I do not know how it is in you country but here in Belgium and in Brussels these " ministers" and "leaders" make soo many mistakes and bad decisions that it is just as bad as the worst soap opera on tv.
And all the time it is us, the people, that suffers because they willingly or not make bad decisions.
As for bitcoin, I think it will continue to bobble along its path with ups and downs. Reaching the 10 k mark like some people suggested will only occur when there are no more bitcoins generated.
thats my 2 cents for this discussion anyway Grin
57  Economy / Economics / Re: Are colored coins the real bank killer? on: December 16, 2013, 10:38:40 AM
I have my own views on banks and their practices. If bitcoin and other crypto currencies weren't a "threat" to the banks then the banks and financial sector wouldn't make a fuss over crypto currencies. But the fact that their lobby machines, PR tanks( like most financials journals and newspapers) having a bashing contest with everything to do with crypto currencies and Bitcoin in particular, is a sign that banks do feel threatened. This new form will challenge them to change "their business as usual" work ethic and actually create a new set of tools. They, the banks, do not like change because when something isn't broken and brings in heaps of money everyday why fix it? The main reason, in my humble oppinion, is that the banks are cross with the genius or geniuses that made bitcoin. If it was someone at the bank or a bank institution itself that invented Bitcoin the media would blow up with excitement. Now the bank lobby is trying to discredit everything and everybody that uses Bitcoin. Look at recent articles from the financial times, the economist and others to see the subtle and most of the time not so subtle attempts at Bitcoin Bashing.
I have a financial background, that is to say i dabbled a bit with stocks and made a pretty penny Wink. One of the first rules you learn is when someone says BUY THIS OR THAT you do not do that because you will get burned. You do the opposite people, experts say and you will come out on top... well most of the time. Your mum and dad gave you a brain so use it Smiley
So i do not think the banks will ever lose
58  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dogecoin value? on: December 15, 2013, 08:51:25 PM
I think is its just another pump and dump. If i had the money and know how I could create another coin, pay a bunch of people(in that new coin) to spam on forums about the new coin so everyone will get onboard and when it is at a certain point sell or'dump' every single coin. That is how millionaires are made. Though if someone offered free doge coins i wouldn't say no Smiley but investing in it .. nah.

60  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How secure and safe are physical coins? on: December 15, 2013, 08:32:07 PM
buying up silver and gold isn't a good way to make sure your profits will be safe. First you need to buy gold and silver from a reliable source. You even have to be careful with the renowned jewelers" since I've seen and heard some items that they'd made were of substandard quality. So you need to check for the gold percentage and the best and fastest way is using chemical testers and "touchstone" http://www.livescience.com/29188-how-to-check-gold.html.  A while back there was a scam where gold plated coins were sold as genuine "ancient roman coins". Result most people fell for the scam and got ripped off. The core was iron with a very thin gold layer. Most fakes will show up when used on a "touchstone". I know from experience that the electronic gold testers aren't all that accurate and have to be cleaned on a regular basis when not being used. But I digress.
Anhywho I think that nothing is truly safe even when you got the Physical coins in hand or in a safe/vault. The upside is that you have something physical in your hands and can sell them. What is best? that is something you need to decide for yourself.
