ideas...for what they are worth :p - This coin has something in common with doge - a lot of publicity outside the regular crypto channels. Like doge this will attract a lot of new people to find out what the fuss is about so make your coin as noob friendly as possible. Including the conf file with the wallet was a great idea, but maybe also include a readme on where to put it and maybe some basic (ie for people who know nothing about mining/crypto) instructions on how to start mining it etc. - still along the noob theme.. a lot of these new people wont have any specialist mining setups so are going to struggle to actually get any of your coin. you want them involved and bought in as they will probably be the core of your community after all the speculators have pumped and dumped. The reality is these people arent going to invest in mining hardware unless they can see a reason to. So maybe start an official pool, use the pool fees and part of the premine to subsidise these low hash people so they actually get a bit of coin to play with and see how the whole crypto thing works, I dont know if you could script it, but once a day review the people in the pool who had a hash rate of say less than 75khs for example and send their wallets the same amount they mined for the day, at that hashrate they arent making crazy money thats impossible to match from pool fees but what you are doing is creating a point of difference - no one else looks out for the little guys just starting out and you are giving them a reason to use and promote your coin because they actually have some. Obviously you cant do that forever but you wont need to once new people can see a benefit to them in having better equipment they'll buy it, but noone is buying $500 video cards for a quick experiment to see if something works. - approach a decent exchange and work to get the coin listed. you dont have to pay anyone - moon turning up on coinex 12 hrs or so after launch proved that exchange owners can make good money off of a well publicised coin - and thats what you have. when you look at who to approach dont just think big and famous look for user friendly and helpful - after all this is where all your noobs are going to learn why they should be using your coin the easier you can make that process of all the new people you are bringing in learning how to get and use your coin the more likely they are to stick around and keep your coin alive. -talk to a payment processor that is willing to deal with altcoins, one example is https://www.coinpayments.net/, their stores accept some or all of the alt currencies they allow, once you have a payment processor its a lot easier to sell businesses on using your coin. hope it helps and good luck ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) 5Vjq7Vfyt9Va63QcktViUqHmraxhdAuajk

I believe thats a bitcoin asic yeah? In which case you would only be able to mine sha 256 based altcoins (theres a few of those around) pretty much all of the coins you listed are scrypt based for which there are no asics (some in development) and your sha 256 asic wont mine https://coinex.pw/mining/pools will give you a list of some sha 256 altcoins, Im sure there are others but may as well start with something thats on an exchange ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

coinium.org seems to work fine just 2 min mining and iv got 1 earthcoin unconfirmed i dont know what is going on with earthcoin pools..
Don't think it's the pools. I'm not sure how practical it is to mine at 20 kh/s. It would take weeks to see results. I currently mine at 22.5khs and get valid shares (not a zillion lol but i get shares..) so you should still be able to get some

Possibly a dumb question, but I don't know the answer, so here goes. The client appears to be capable of CPU mining within itself, like the old bitcoin client was. If this is true, how do you set it up for solo mining, and can it be set up for pool mining? Also, if this doesn't turn out to be a dumb question, you might want to put the instructions on the original post. Then again, maybe not. CPU mining isn't that popular these days it wouldnt do much, you really do need a GPU to mine these I'd still like to know. I have several computers that could be dedicated to it. They are old. It's for fun ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) under help on wallet you will find debug window, click it, then click console in console type setgenerate true then enter close debug window, click mining icon, then start mining button give it a few seconds then hover over the little mining icon bottom right of wallet and it will show your hash rate ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

i see that it says they could manipulate the blockchain but outside of rhetoric, i fail to see exactly HOW they would be able to do that.
because of the fact its possible you are then relying on the operators integrity...the fact that someone is in the position to possibly do this wouldn't inspire confidence in the coin

Be it the persistance of the community, or my own OCD that made me bug Theymos until we had some sort of organization system, we now have Subforums! Everyone be sure to thank Theymos (even if just in your head because he probably wouldn't be happy about recieving thousands of PMs) We now have Announcements, which will be used for New Coin Announcements as well as Service announcements. Mining, which will be for all things mining, technical help, etc. and Marketplace which is for buying/selling things for Alt Coins. The top level board that is just general "Alternate Currencies" which you are in now if you are reading this sticky, will be used for General Discussion, Fud, etc. We thought it was impossible to get subforums, and we managed! If theres one thing to take away from this, its please don't ask for any more. We will make do with what we have and be damn happy! (*future prediction here* within a few pages, we will have people asking for Giveaways section, and others*) NO We will have to develop general guidelines for what sections to use for each senario, as well as , which is what will be posted in this thread when we have figured them out. ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)
Question Number 1 for Everyone, please feel free to answer in this thread or Pm me with your thoughtsShould Pool Announcement threads go in Announcements or Mining? I initially thought that they would go in Announcements, and that Mining would be for Mining related discussion and support, but I also see them fitting in Mining. Let me know what is on your minds. you sir are a legend !! xD personally I think pools in mining

Anyone have an EAC balance with coinex.pw? site has been locked down for hours... no trades, chat not working. things are not looking good at that exchange.
i have a bit in there but no worries once the admins sleep off their hangovers Im sure it will be up and running again hehe

Bter have lower withdraw limits yes. It seems its just for single operations though, because i did multiple withdraws in a row and they all went out fine.
I did some trading there and although i had some problems, they solved them. No repply from support though. What i can say is, same rule apply to all Exchanges: Dont put much money there.
All in all, i consider BTER safe, to a point.
...
Join our IRC Channel on Freenode -> #Earthcoin
do they have a withdrawal fee by chance? that would explain low limits

Do we know the news yet? Or are they all still recovering from their New Years Eve hangovers?! ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) still sleeping it off I think :p

Bter has very low withdraw limits on coins now.
they have a new limit of doge: 1000 doge withdraw limit.
that is insane. this is very fishy and suspect. once EAC hits bter, I would NOT put any money on there, as you won't be able to withdraw your investment for days with such limits.
and since there is NO TECHNICAL REASON FOR A WITHDRAW LIMIT, the only reasons that are plausible are criminal intent or deterring people from switching to competition exchanges
for those who don't know: 1000 doge limit is like a 20 EAC withdraw limit. it is INSANE
let this be a warning and do not trust Bter or put money on this exchange
Wow if that is true, I can't see why anyone would ever use them. Are they trying to kill their business? 1000 coin limit for Doge is just absurd. Are there low limits like that on all coins? Thanks for the heads up! I read it here in another thread. had several different people confirming it. still did not believe it, checked and it is true.... but what do people expect from anything connected with China... there are no laws there. it's the wild west--as long as you don't piss off the political leadership and they cannot kill their business, if people cannot withdraw but apart from that: ANY limit of non-fiat currency is borderline criminal, since there is zero reason to have one. with fiat, there are government regulations and so on. banks are made to have those limits.
with crypto, it is purely a powerplay on the part of the exchangeI can understand a minimum withdrawal limit because of transaction fees etc but I cant think of a reason for a maximum one other than they dont have the funds on site - ie I have to tell my bank in advance if I want to withdraw more than x amount so they have the funds in the branch in cash. but then that begs the question of why an exchange dosent have the balance easily accessible....

Im not really qualified to comment on most of it but I'll chip in where I can.....
1) a cpu only coin will get some following but most of the scrypt mining community have splashed on huge gpu hash power, you will probably get a larger uptake with scrypt 2) not really qualified to comment 3) there was a thread here a few days ago (a quick google will turn it up) about how Bitcoin and Litecoin both have max coin limits that are right on the boundary of what a computer can actually handle (there was a lot of technical mumbo jumbo that will mean more to you than it does to me lol) but the gist of it was if you have more coins that that and actually survive long enough to generate those coins you are gonna have a major headache 4) I like the idea of the first x blocks being a lower payout allowing everyone a chance to jump in but if you are going to have a random amount maybe a minimum of 1 not 0? kind of soul destroying for us low hashpower types to finally hit a block and get a 0 reward.
Couple of random suggestions:
- make sure you have the means for everyone to access the coin right from the start - i.e. have a windows client, have a mac client ready have the source available for the linux nerds:p Basically everyone gets a fair shot at it right from the release
- unless you're planning a brand new meme based pump and dump take your time...dont rush anything out until its well tested and ready. If you are genuinely wanting a long term product take the time to do it right before you release it.
