41  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [5000 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: October 19, 2011, 04:34:26 PM
We have some problems at this moment and I'm working on this.
Hashrate display is temporarily disabled for debugging purposes, sorry (that's why we aren't on bitcoinwatch).

You may need to flush DNS cache.

Flushing DNS doesn't work.  What is the DNS change that should be fixed by flushing DNS?

I use my own DNS servers so I can clear the cache on everything, both the client and the server.

Nslookups on dns2.easydns.net show the same IP address my client had for pit.deepbit.net:
91.223.77.253

dns0.deepbit.net is not responding.

43  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica - 15169.57 BTC Traded in the last 24 hours on: September 13, 2011, 07:13:17 AM
When will the issue with withdrawals be fixed?

I have been unable to withdraw my funds out of bitcoinica for 12 hours.

Thanks!

It has already been fixed. Make sure you don't withdraw your whole balance at once. Because your balanced may be rounded up and you won't have enough for withdrawal.

Thanks!

That doesn't make sense ... MtGox codes support more than two decimal places.  Why are users unable to withdraw the correct amount?  Why is it being rounded in the first place?

45  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bruce Wagner - "reprehensible" fraudster according to Cook County Judge on: September 05, 2011, 07:42:05 PM
I was a bystander most of the time, but I must say these things really look bad. It's not bullet proof hard evidence, but it's good enough for me. Sorry Bruce.

If it turns out this is the same guy, I wouldn't feel sorry for him but for his victims that trusted him with money that he never intended to use to help them out of a bad spot with their homes.

He already admitted it was him.
46  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Show is a Failure on: September 05, 2011, 07:23:02 PM
I think people scared bruce away.  He posted on twitter that he wont be taking part in these forums anymore.

People didn't scare Bruce away.  He left because we discovered that not only does his show suck, but he's a scammer of the worst kind.

What kind of person scams someone when they are already financially devastated.... Bruce, that's who.

Its obvious he intended to defraud too:

1) He lied about having 70+ offices
2) He lied about being a 12 year member of better businees bureau
3) He by creating fake testimonials on boldfunding.com's website
4) He lied claiming that Bold Funding saved thousands of homeowners over 12 years
5) He lied about having attorneys on staff.

Direct quotes from boldfunding.com's website:

"Bold Funding has been helped many thousands of homeowners save their home, equity, and credit for the past 12 years. We have 74 regional offices representing every major city and headquartered in Chicago, IL."

"Bold Funding helps hundreds of people each and every year.  We’ve been proud members of the Better Business Bureau for 12 years, and have attorneys on staff to fight for you, but don’t let one more day slip away…  You need to call us right now!   You do not have to lose your home!   We may be able to help you save your home in as little as 21 business days…  even after the Sheriff Sale… regardless of your credit!  Call now… 1-800-567-8922."

Beware anyone defending Bruce as well, they're either scammers or delusional.

The sooner Bitcoin is rid of this filth the better.

security by obscurity is no security at all

This is true only if obscurity is the only means of security.
48  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: suggestion for client: random/custom wallet.dat filename on: August 09, 2011, 12:07:26 AM
This seems so simple that I would immediately think it's a horrible idea, but I can't think of a way to easily get around it and it would stop a lot of old trojans. Awesome idea quattro! Grin(I can't wait to see what someone who knows what he's doing says) Wink

Hi BookLover,

It's just one layer of an extensive approach to securing bitcoins.  My suggestion merely makes it a bit harder for low level attacks to be successful.

49  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: suggestion for client: random/custom wallet.dat filename on: August 08, 2011, 11:49:59 PM
An added layer of security would be the ability to create custom and random wallet.dat filenames.

If someone was able to compromise a machine running the bitcoin client, it wouldn't be as easy as searching for the standard filename.

And while we're at it ... how about some encryption.  Smiley

Would it randomize file extension(.dat) also? And what about a custom folder/path  instead of %appdata%\Bitcoin\, wouldn't that be needed as well?

Ummm ... you should have already installed it a directory other than the default.   Smiley

I don't think it needs to randomize the file extension ... .dat is common enough.

Again, this isn't meant to be foolproof.  You'd be surprised how a lot of simple things can thwart even the most sophisticated attacks.

This was the oldest, longest standing bitcoin eWallet site in existence.   It had a strong record of stability.   It had been around nearly since the beginning of bitcoin itself.    People who trusted using an eWallet at all...  trusted it.   It had 10s of thousands of account holders.   Some of the smartest, most reputable, long-standing bitcoin community leaders used it.

So, before you "trusted" your money to mybitcoin.com, recommended to personal friends that they trust "mybitcoin.com", and recommended mybitcoin.com to people online, you spent +/- $2000 to fly down and meet the people behind it ... right.

I think you need to look up the word trust.

The second day I got into bitcoin I knew it mybitcoin.com was bad news and pulled everything out of mybitcoin.com.

The damage you have done to bitcoin is immeasurable.

WOW man you are a MASTER of the obvious after the fact quattro.

I for one MUST hear more from you on a daily basis.  RUN (don't walk) and setup a video podcast immediately.  In it you can tell us all the news (like a week later) and tell us how you knew all along how it was going to work out.  Oh here is a suggestion you can hold a conference just like bruce in NYC but have it like 2 weeks later and tell us all that he might possibly do wrong in his conference that you "knew was gonna happen"  I know i would sign up and be there because i just LOVE YOU MAN.

Your words are just so poetic.  Like when you asked if Bruce had flown down to meet the people before he put his money in.  Wow I am so proud of you.  Man I am sure Bruce never thought of that months after the fact. Since you said in the quote above you "pulled everything out of mybitcoin" I can only assume you took your own perfect advice and took a plane there before you ever put money in.  So tell us master of the obvious when you met the people behind mybitcoin what were they like?  What made you put bitcoins in mybitcoin in the first place?

Looking forward to your conference and podcast creations quattro  ... coming soon I hope ....

I have no desire to explain basic common sense to people who have none.

At this stage, I'm merely stating the obvious because Bruce and others are pretending that the blame doesn't rest 100% with them.

It's like handing your car keys to a car thief ... you can whine all day long about how evil the car thief is, but in the end, you're the idiot that handed them your keys.

If I was making recommendations to non-technical users to give thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars to a complete stranger in a foreign country, and I was pretending to be an expert with my own show, you can bet your ass I'd at least meet the person behind the company before doing so.  You don't have to suspect they're a thief, they can be incompetent, or just lazy.

As it stands, I'm an individual making recommendations to no one, knowing full well what my own risks are.

52  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Freedom and Responsibility - or: why you FAILED if you lost money in MBC crash on: August 08, 2011, 11:23:56 PM
MyBitcoin.com USERS HAD BITCOIN STOLEN. They are returning a portion 49% of them to you: Not sure where to send them? CALL ME. 646-580-0022

They weren't stolen, you gave them away.

Bitcoins are P2P currency, that means you don't store them in a centralized location like traditional currency.

Don't tell people to send them anywhere.  That's more of the blind leading the blind.

If you can't secure a machine and protect a single file, you have no business participating in bitcoin at this stage.

The time will come for non-technical participants, but it's not  now.

Let me see if I got Bruce's recommendation right ... "Hi Dad, you won't believe this new currency, it's strength is that it's peer to peer.  But here, store this p2p currency in a centralized location with a complete stranger."

Do we really expect Fred and Marge from Toledo, the barely can work a mouse crowd, to be able to do that?

Bruce, do you really think that bitcoin is ready for Fred an Marge from Toledo?

It's not even close.  You just learned that the hard way.

Trying to force it on your friends and family is just greedy.

I haven't told any friends/family yet, because its not ready.  I haven't even told a family member that makes $hitloads of money off the stock market all day long(up  $xxx, xxx this year) because there is no way he could understand ALL of the risks.  He's probably the "riskiest" guy I know.

Please, do the bitcoin community a favor and stop talking about things you don't understand.

Yeah I expected more from Bruce from a security stand point.

After mtgox, there is no excuse for this ... heck even before mtgox there was no excuse. It's basic common sense ... something a lot of people seem to be missing.

There is  reason his videos have so little viewership ... watch one if you can stand it for more than a few minutes.  It's like the blind leading the blind.

People like this need to be weeded out of bitcoin for it to succeed ... and that's exactly whats happening.

Bitcoin has enough hurdles to pass before true widespread adoption can be achieved.

Of course if you listen to Bruce, Shell stations will be accepting bitcoins any day now.  On the contrary a lot has to happen before that is possible.

I'm having a hard time feeling sorry ... people need to do their due diligence.  Their ignorance and lack of common sense is a set back for bitcoin.

I'm not an electrician ...  But I thought I'd share what I know to keep you from burning down your apartment.  You can only run 12 amps on a 15 amp circuit.  I would bet that your wiring is running pretty hot in the wall on that circuit.  Keep in mind that there are probably other plugs on that circuit outside of that room.

Never run more than 80 percent of the circuit rating... 12 amps on a 15 amp circuit, 16 amps on a 20 amp circuit.

Make sure that you include other loads that are running on that same circuit outside of that room in your calculations.

Hi,

A few questions....

What's the power draw at the wall?  Are the cards o'clocked/overvolted to get 1500 M/Hs?  Also how did you determine 1500 MH/s, what does each card get?

And lastly, how are the cards mounted?

Thanks!
