41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / 42coin not capped at 42 on: January 22, 2014, 08:30:34 PM
If I get that pull request for 42coin on github right, and the guy who did it is right, then 42coin is not capped at 42 coins. It's 42coins and some coins more (if the code stays as it is today). Same error as DOGE, LOT and various hastily clonecoded altcoins have...

Uh.. ugly...
42  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How high will Dogecoin get? DOGE on: January 21, 2014, 11:27:44 PM
Yes, but memes have one characteristic: They vanish almost as fast as they appear. I have seen many altcoins coming and going. DOGE doesn't really differ. It stands out because of the silliness of the meme, but surely not because of the skills of its devs.

A spokesman with the Federal Elections Commission could not say whether Bitcoin donations are legal. In November, the FEC considered whether to explicitly allow federal candidates and political action committees to accept Bitcoin donations as in-kind donations. The committee deadlocked, 3-3. The commission has not taken up the issue since the November vote, a spokesman said.

From the Texas Tribune, concerning the announcment of Steve Stockman (R-TX) to accept Bitcoin donations...

53  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Switzerland: lawmakers ask govt to legalize Bitcoin and seek BTC donations on: December 09, 2013, 04:25:05 PM
The world banking capital can become the world Bitcoin nerve center was well.

Unfortunately that's the only point most swiss lawmakers did not get until now. If Switzerland should stay the finacial hub it once was, it should be open for any form of currencies etc. But I have still hope. Once they realize that good and honest money can be made around Bitcoin, they will jump on the train...
54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Switzerland: lawmakers ask govt to legalize Bitcoin and seek BTC donations on: December 09, 2013, 03:34:25 PM
The swiss parliamentary lawmaker group "Digitale Nachhaltigkeit - Parldigi" (Digital Sustainability) asked the Swiss government to legalize Bitcoin.

In a postulate (site in german) titled "Establish legal certainty for Bitcoin" delivered to the swiss federal government the group of members of the national council asked the federal council to find answers to the following questions:

1. What chances for the financial centre Switzerland does the federal council see in Bitcoin and similar online currencies?

2. Which arguments speak against treating Bitcoin like a foreign currency?

3. Which regulatory instruments does the federal cuncil have to establish legal certainty for Bitcoin and similar online currencies?

4. If there are any regulatory steps to take, which will these be and what is the roadmap for implementation of these steps?

The group also says that these questions might be answered if the federal council takes the position that Bitcoins should be treated like foreign currencies. Then Bitcoin could be regulated using the existing swiss laws like the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) the Collective Investment Schemes Act (CISA), the Value Added Tax Act (VAT Act) and similar laws. By doing this, legal certainty for Bitcoin could be reached in Switzerland.

To gain experience with Bitcoin, the parliamentary group posted a Bitcoin donation address on their website (see bottom of the postulate). The original german text of the postulate can also be found there: http://www.digitale-nachhaltigkeit.ch/2013/12/bitcoin/

56  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bank of America covers Bitcoin - 1300$ fair price, potential for growth on: December 05, 2013, 02:44:34 PM
Game on now. After this you can fully expect each big bank to develop their own crypto, maybe smaller banks will do too.

You mean BOACoin?
57  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bank of America covers Bitcoin - 1300$ fair price, potential for growth on: December 05, 2013, 02:31:54 PM
Other analysts see a bit higher prices (but I guess they invested in BTC themselves):

Is Bank of America not a one of the big four? That is more interesting than such free adds from some unknown companies...

You can imagine, that all the others also look very closely to Bitcoin... and you can bet that they won't wait for long if they have any indication that its possible to make $$$ with BTC.
59  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bank of America covers Bitcoin - 1300$ fair price, potential for growth on: December 05, 2013, 02:25:43 PM
Interesting. Very positive for BTC. But strange on several levels:

1. Why are they doing this? BTC is competition, how should they get their piece of the cake?

2. Store of value close to silver? Lol, with all respect due to BTC, silver has been around for a couple of 1000 years...

3. Where does this number of 1300$ come from? My guess: They totally pulled it out of their asses... when you look at number of people, money supply, total available gold, etc, etc, that number is MUCH higher...

1. If they can rip you off when you trade silver with them, they will know how to rip you off while trading Bitcoins with them

2. But it actually is a store of value, even if it becomes worthless and its also volatile as silver

3. Yes, pulled out of their asses, as they do with all the other commodities, stocks etc.
