41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Cypherfunks[FUNK]! Internet band & coin. For the musicians! Tipbot online. on: March 21, 2014, 04:40:52 PM
Now that I think of it, that would be pretty cool if you could tip or "vote" each song directly using Funk in a player.. (kind of like Pandora's thumbs up or Facebook Like, but using Funk coins) it would provide the artist incentive to create good works under the Cypherfunks, as they would be generating Funk from their work, and also provide an interesting rating system for the songs themselves as you can then list the songs that have earned the most Funk, in all different ways (all time, per week, that day, etc) People can easily vote what they like with their Funk.  But again that comes down to linking each song to a unique funk address, that all then links back to the original creator so they get the funk credit for their work..  Just thinking out loud...

And someway to tie the coin into it, and make it useful.. but that's the hard part.. having people desire to get involved with the coin, mine/buy it, and use it.  Hmmm.. Radio Cypherfunk player with built in tipper for the current track... but that would require each song to be tied to a funk account..

Auto tweets and Reddit updates would be cool - would keep things moving without much intervention.. it's pretty stale on Reddit, not a single new post since the tipbot one (and that was mostly us talking).  Anything that keeps people interested and coming back is good., but like you said don't want to be spam'n it either.  Once enough music is out there then Radio Cypherfunk!  24/7 streaming..  Grin

I like the idea of in the wallet player, I agree that would tie it to the coin pretty good,... but a separate player with tipping function would be cool too.. Maybe both?

Well that would be new and different!

On the Reddit, maybe make a sticky post with the links to Soundcloud and the bounties for packs.. that way it's the first thing new visitors see?

Ha, nice screen capture there!   Cheesy   Lets see how the tipping works out.. I still have some to tip, but not a lot of time to go through threads and be constructive.. so I'll mostly have to leave that to others.. but I'll help when I can! Lets see if the song base can grow even more as well as get somebody to collect some of the bounties on the packs... and start spreading the funk...

Looks like the tipbot is working fine so far. Nice work!

New site looks good.. I keep wanting to click on the graphics for Internet Band, and Currency though, maybe hot link them like the top bar?

I think it still needs something more on the crypto side -I see you have links for the exchanging it, and the brief technical aspects, and a link to the wallet, but with no idea how to use it, setup, or mine, or even a link of resources for the info.. at worst I'd think link them to the first post here, that at least gets them the pools and other info? Even experienced miners need to know what the available pools and stuff are, and there is no links to them on the page. I know the crypto side can get to be a pretty deep rabbit hole.. but something to at least get them pointed to basic mining so they can generate their own funk.. ? The mining right now is pretty light, I think that if I turned all my miners back towards it (and I don't have much) I'd be generating over 50% of the hash sometimes, the global is getting pretty low at times. Just  my 2 cryptos on it..  Grin

Music side is looking good and growing fast...

The original Auroracoin timewarp thread is here:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=504103.0
Looks like he has taken down other coins in the past.

As far as the ASIC's, I've been tempted to sell of my GPUs and move to the Gridseed ASIC's, mainly due to the way lower power costs and almost no heat when doing scrypt only, right now with the market I could sell my GPU's for almost the same cost of the gridseeds, and get the same output, but at 7W instead of 100's. Heck they have been heating my kids room for what passes for winter here, but once summer hits I'm going to have cooling issues.  Plus Hashmasters is about 2 miles from me and has them in stock, so I don't even have to deal with shipping.

My only hold back is that GPU's are way more customizable, and can be adopted for changes in coin scrypts much faster.  ASIC's lock you into a specific formula.. and with the rate the technology is changing I rather have something I can still use later.. I may still pick one up to test with... right now my hardware is paid off too, so I'm a bit reluctant to dump more money into anything until I see how it's all going to go.

Any idea if Funks KGW is susceptible to the time warp exploit?  I know there was talk of taking down Aurora Coin with it if they implemented KGW, and that's one reason Doge is going with Digishield instead of KGW.  With the current difficulty so low I don't see it being exploited now, but possible in the future?

  • Remember, queue=0, scan-time=2, expiry=8 keeps rejects low and pays better towards your hashrate!

Even with those settings and trying to tune more I finally figured out my rejects are beyond my control and due to my ISP and being half way around the world.. heck my ISP even went down for a few hours on Friday. Watching the charts, I can tell when the local neighborhood network (cable internet) gets busy and my rejects go up.  Without my changing a thing I'll go from as low a 1% to sometimes 25%.. Also when the 100Mhs hits my rejects drop since they have more time..  Everybody should be in church right now so I should be good for a few hours..  Cheesy

Ok, the tipbot is up and running in the main thread BUT it looks like a Tipbot requires Reddit Gold at $30/yr to run. I'm not in a place where I can afford to pay that, and I'm honestly not interested in giving Reddit my banking information anyway.

Don't use the tipbot, as it can't get messages when it's mentioned. You can register, send funds and withdraw, but can't send to anyone because the tipbot can't pick up when it's been mentioned until Reddit receive hard cash. Seriously lame. Worked on this all day.

Sorry to hear that.  Thanks for the work.  It will work out.

All someone has to do is buy Reddit gold for "FUNKTipBot" using Bitcoin. Anyone can do it. $30 a year. This will all be fine.

If anybody's up to this - even buying a month will start us off. Someone in the main thread has mentioned coding in custom keywords, which sounds like it could be awesome - I mean, who wouldn't want to tip someone with +/u/FUNKTipbot/ marshallstack for a huge tip, or maybe +/u/FUNKTipbot/ boogie for a small amount :-D

I just payed for 3 months for the tip bot to start it off.. Grin

Wow.. somebody hit the P2P pool with 100MHs for a bit.. Shocked

Great idea on some bounties.

I created 2 addresses. One for a faucet and one for a reddit tipbot. You can see in the announcement page with details. Here it is again:

I donated 2 million so far.

---

Bounty FUND for a faucet [donate here]:
CMshf9ZVrYoBPdjnsJ7zSgVFcfEZui85qw [1 million donated so far]

If you have a working faucet, the bounty will be delivered.

Bounty FUND for a reddit tipbot [donate here]:
CWKmoKce124SfTpPBby8uSyrxp9Log4bQi [1 million donated so far]

If a working reddit tipbot is running for at least 2 weeks, the bounty will be delivered.

---

At the moment, we are just pushing the idea to as many musicians as possible. The more music we make, the more the idea spread! Already had some musicians join that haven't heard of cryptocurrencies before, so it is cool.

Awesome.. I just added 3 million to the tip bot bounty, a million to the faucet bounty, and added a million to the fund for packs.

Or a soundcloud tipbot like was suggested on the Reddit sub..  Grin

I'll also drop in a mil or so if a fund is setup...   Seems to me a Reddit tipbot or similar used (with permission of the mods) on some of the music subs can draw some attention to the music aspect, possibly getting more music input for the band part... and gets the coins flowing.  Think of them as flyers for the band...  draw them in and hope they stay because they like the music.

Is there any other bounties that can be established or donated to other than the current seps pack one?  Like for creation of a tip bot or faucet?  While I can't program myself, I could see me donating towards a bounty fund for this type of thing.. Normally that's why some coins do premine, so they have coin they can offer for such things.. but there was no premine on this so no incentives, other than the seps packs at this point...  Some good press right now, good time to get this stuff going faster.

I like the open source music aspect of this, I can see the potential of Cypherfunks the band taking off... the coin needs markets though, something to do with them, someway to draw people into wanting to use them or have them.  I think a lot of people now have what I've started calling Alt Coin Fatigue.. including myself.. I now am looking for something that makes a coin stand out, and has a real use... most of them there is not a dang thing to do with them other than go "oh, shiny.."  The music part I already like and is different, so once a way to really use the coins that benefit in some way it can have the potential to really take off..  something like being able to directly tip funk for songs, loops, etc, and even pay for such services related to music maybe.  The simplest way would be to be able to download an MP3 for like 1000 Funk, but then that kind of goes against free open source.. and of course the artist may need to convert the funk into cash, so it's got to have some value and market.. don't know if that's the direction this coin wants to take though.

In the mean time, since my hardware was long ago paid off and then some, it's like freaking winning the lotto cherry picking all these easy coins that people are missing out on mining!   Grin  So shiny!

The P2P pool looks like it's doing pretty good (other than it needs more users!), some can run at 20% or more dead.. the main number is the pool efficiency, and it's running at or above 100% so that's good. From what I've seen the #1 reason for dead even with the faster settings in CGminer is latency on the network, which can happen with connections coming from all over the world.. with the shares happening so fast it doesn't take much of a delay receiving it to kill them.
