41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Amazon has just legitimized Bitcoin to the Entire World!!!! on: April 15, 2014, 09:55:30 PM
Going mainstream or something?  Huh

Not yet, but Amazon has given BTC a thumbs up in it's favor, and basically laid out what needs to be done to get Amazon to integrate it.

If anything, Target should be looking at it.

They are still reeling from the credit card information scandal.  If they didn't have to store any information at all, they wouldn't have this problem.

Target should immediately set up an account with BitPay or Coinbase and start announcing to the world that you can now shop without giving your information.

It's a lot better than, "What's a bitcoin?"

+1 to both

You guys, please don't be defeated yet... REMEMBER WHERE WE HAVE GOTTEN TO!

Remember the price 2 years ago. Remember the nay-sayers 2 years ago. Where are we now? Remember where we are!!

Amazon not taking bitcoin is huge? errr OK

I think you'll find Taylor mentioned it in response to a direct question about it in interview. What else is he supposed to do? You are making out as if he held a press conference just to mention Bitcoin. He didn't it was mentioned in an interview in a question and his reply was 'we've looked at it and we don't want it'. If you think them looking at it is huge then you must get excited easily. Obviously they've looked at it after the exposure it has had.

It's optimism Smiley If the major papers are making a story on it... why not use it to your best advantage? He's the head of amazon payments, he's been watching it for a while. He probably has some of the best intelligence on new payments options of anyone on the planet.

Thanks for post - Nice if this is legit!

Myself and fellow esteemed bitcoiners on here, wrote to Amazon last night- Maybe they took heed and reconsidered  Shocked

That's awesome. Go you! Smiley

However the bitcoin community alone WILL NOT be able to do it. We need to really keep doing what we're doing and spreading the word to shops, app devs, web site devs, etc, whatever is needed, and spread the word.

Amazon is smart enough to know that the first batch of letters will be bitcoin people I think. Tom is watching like a hawk, this could be a turning point in his career, so he's going to play this as smart as possible.

47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best practices for telling what altcoin is a pump and dump vs. legit? on: April 14, 2014, 07:03:59 PM
it's rather simple. first sign that an altcoin is not legit: it's an altcoin.

Would be nice if that section had a review process on this forum before their unveiling post? I imagine a lot of the pumpers see the altcoin via this forum?
48  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do altcoin investments drop the BTC/USD price? on: April 13, 2014, 05:22:08 AM
I realize this is a big concern in the cryptocurrency world. A lot of people want to see all the altcoins wiped off the face of the earth because they think it hampers their bitcoin retirement account. But does it really? I've been pondering this lately. If, for example, there is a massive surge to buy dogecoin again (selling bitcoin, of course), does that really drop the BTC/USD price? I'm having trouble seeing how it would. In my mind, it should ONLY affect the BTC/DOGE price, and not the BTC/USD price. On the one hand, sell BTC for DOGE would mean there are more bitcoins available to buy, but those available bitcoins are all bought by people selling DOGE right? Therefore, the buy/sell orders at the BTC/USD exchanges are not affected by people buying DOGE, and thus the BTC price remains the same. Am I wrong in my thinking?

Highly highly unlikely I think: https://coinmarketcap.com/index.html

Check out the capitalization of the other coins... a dent compared to the 5+ billion in BTC.

Maybe the better question is in the future will they drop the BTC price perhaps?

Glad I found this thread... I just made something asking about it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=567441.msg6182024#msg6182024

 Cool

We should make a nice website that
1) lists the shitcoins in terms of how shitty
2) have a best practices for knowing the signs of a stinky altcoin
3) FAQ

51  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin: The Downward Trend Continues on: April 10, 2014, 10:46:57 PM
I don't really see a problem. Bitcoin has not really taken off just yet - it needs time. I think most of us are in it for the future, not just some fluctuations. If everyone believes this is the future, and we allow it to be the future, and we make it the future, the price will bottom out eventually and the market will soon take it back up.
