41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [MNT] MountCoin Help on: May 29, 2014, 03:38:29 AM
2014-May-29 05:19:20.704167 BH: 1342, DIFF: 704026, HR: 11733 H/s
I changed the block target to be 40.  so if the stat is wrong then I need to change it again.
I have max diff set to 10,000

It's not now 40 it's 60. Later (today) we publish the Version 1.7.1 with 40sec and a Orphan Fix

blah I found another orphan at height 1369.  Guessing 1378 (which I also "found") is an orphan too.. 3 conf's to go

2014-May-29 05:19:20.704167 BH: 1342, DIFF: 704026, HR: 11733 H/s

If the block time is 25s, then the hashrate is 704026/25 = 28161H/s
43  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [MNT] MountCoin Help on: May 29, 2014, 03:14:33 AM
Today we change the Block Target to 40sec to stop Orphans

by my calcs, there are 25KHs on the network already.

(difficulty/25)

I'm guessing someone is powering more than half the network and thus their setup gets to decide everything else is an orphan?

My 1KHs hasn't found a block for almost an hour.
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [MNT] MountCoin Help on: May 29, 2014, 03:03:55 AM
It's normal. Block time is a whopping 25 seconds. Pls don't restart  Wink
every block is being orphaned I don't think that is correct.

I had the same thing.. 6/6 orphans.  I think maybe keeping the difficulty low might help with faster turnaround?

Also I've had no blocks for 39 mins now?

This whole "master node" deal raises some questions for me.

It reads to me like either:

1.  staking isn't going to work if you have less than a Tier 5 amount of CAIx

or

2.  There is bonus extra minting for those mater nodes, issuing an equal number of coins as are associated at that tier level.

If its the second one, does that mean dilution for us smaller holders?  i.e. will our smaller CAIx holdings get devalued by the minting to master nodes?
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 27, 2014, 12:59:29 PM
It's good to see QCN price lower than MRO.. Grin

No no you have it all wrong.

I want to see QCN around 0.008btc so all the miners bugger off and I get more MRO for my effort Cheesy
48  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QCN] QuazarCoin | Privacy&Data protection | CPU only | Optimized miner on: May 26, 2014, 11:16:25 AM

I did exactly as you said and still I get "cannot resolve host", but thank you for your thorough tutorial.
I can't get my wallet and daemon to sync!  Every time, even though quazarcoind.exe daemon is synchronized and saved, simplewallet.exe says can't connect to daemon "wrong port or either daemon not started" I I have tried many times, deleted old files and blockchain, re-synched but nothing. My coins are stuck in Minergate  Undecided

Cannot resolve host sounds like a DNS error with the name of the pool you're trying.  Are you sure you've got the pool url correct?  Try looking up the pool hostname using the command "nslookup qcn.cryptity.com" to make sure your pc has working DNS and can resolve hostnames.

When you just run the daemon with no parameters, and the wallet with no parameters, it should just work, as they'll both be using the default port.  The wrong port or daemon not started message is possibly a firewall problem.
49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 25, 2014, 01:21:50 PM
Pool operators: please restart bitmonerod with this command (remove your pool's IP)

Code:
./bitmonerod --add-priority-node 198.199.79.100:18080 5.9.25.103:18080 107.170.182.209:18080 62.210.78.186:18080 216.119.175.73:18080

This will keep open connections to all major (>2kh/s) pools so the pools mine less orphans.

This!

Altho' the public pools don't account for much of the network, hopefully the private pools read this and also do it?  (I'm assuming the serious miners are running their own pools especially now that there's stratum support)
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 25, 2014, 12:13:30 PM
http://moneropool.org not paying the last 4+ hours. Is this normal? I am mining with around 240h/s and just switched to this pool today. The previous pool that I was at was paying a few times per hour.

Looking at the Pool Blocks page for both moneropool.com and moneropool.org both seem to have an issue - there's some blocks which haven't reached maturity but which should have paid out by now, going back a few hours.

Might be a problem with the new stratum protocol or new pool software?
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QCN] QuazarCoin | Privacy&Data protection | CPU only | Optimized miner on: May 25, 2014, 10:50:35 AM
Heh, just noticed the QCN network has gone over 1MHs for the first time.  I guess the price is attracting hash from MRO?
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QCN] QuazarCoin | Privacy&Data protection | CPU only | Optimized miner on: May 25, 2014, 10:46:53 AM
Thank you, but I still get the same error.
Could I get a summary of the steps to get this going from the ground up?
I hope I'm not imposing..

If you get the same error, it sounds like you're still trying to run against the wrong binary.

This should work:

1.  Delete the cpuminer stuff you have already, or move it somewhere out the way
2.  Download this file:  https://github.com/LucasJones/cpuminer-multi/releases/download/v1.0.3/cpuminer-multi.zip somewhere like C:\Temp
3.  Unzip the file into a folder of the same name - you should get a folder called: "C:\Temp\cpuminer-multi" with some files in it including minerd.exe
3.  Open a "Command Prompt" using the start menu, or just run "cmd.exe"
4.  then.. in the command window enter these commands:

cd C:\temp\cpuminer-multi
minerd -a cryptonight -o stratum+tcp://qcn.cryptity.com:6666 -u <wallet> -p x -q

That should connect and start working.  (Note:  don't try typing the address by hand - just paste it in using right-click and "Paste" from the menu)

5.  Hit ctrl-C to kill the minerd program, and press the up button on your keyboard so you can see the command you used which worked.
Right-click and choose "Mark" and highlight the whole command, then hit "Enter" once its highligted to copy it to the clipboard.
6.  Type:  "notepad start.bat" and say "Yes" when it asks if you want to create the file.
7.  Paste into the notepad, and you should get the minerd command you just highlighted.
8.  Hit "Save" and go back to the command window.
9.  Type: "start" and hit enter, and it should run.

Note:  Also, you might want to add "-t 2" or some other number to limit the number of threads, depending on which cpu you have.  I get faster hashing on one of my computers (an old i5-650) with 2 threads than 3 or 4 (its dual-core with hyperthreading, so cpuminer tries to make 4 threads by default).
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QCN] QuazarCoin | Privacy&Data protection | CPU only | Optimized miner on: May 25, 2014, 09:41:01 AM

Edit: I get "unknown algorithm -- 'cryptonight'" when using the .bat, what do?
If someone wouldnt mind, could you give me a quick tutorial on how to start with cpuminer?

Hi Weret,

You need to get the multi-protocol version of minerd.  The one you need is here:

https://github.com/LucasJones/cpuminer-multi#download

The binaries section has windows binaries and version 1.0.3 includes stratum support.
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 25, 2014, 12:11:45 AM

you don't need a payment id if you want to send from your wallet to another, just transfer 0 address amount

only the exchanges require tx id.

Awesome, thanks!  I knew I was missing something obvious Cheesy
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 25, 2014, 12:01:28 AM
Ok, I'm obviosuly missing something.

If I want to send from my wallet to another person, how does the payment ID get generated?  Is there a wallet command I'm just not seeing that generates one?

I know the exchanges make one - I just don't know how/where they get it from, and if I want to move funds between wallets, I need one too it seems.

Ext-Pool update :
We updated to last pool software old ports work fine in http, and we add new ports for stratum.
update you miners and use stratum+tcp://

http://qcn.ext-pool.net/

Welcome...

Excellent, thanks for staying on top of the source!

I just switched 1.5KHs to you.. it'll be good to stop wasting time on those orphan blocks!

Its good to see this in the log from my miners:

Code:
[2014-05-24 22:53:38] accepted: 63/63 (100.00%), 528.85 H/s at diff 5000 (yay!!!)
[2014-05-24 22:53:40] Stratum detected new block
[2014-05-24 22:53:40] accepted: 64/64 (100.00%), 530.04 H/s at diff 5000 (yay!!!)

I can recommend everyone switching to this protocol on this pool - it'll reduce the load on the pool, and cut the number of orphans down for a better return on mining time.

Minerd tool with stratum support: https://github.com/LucasJones/cpuminer-multi#download
Command line to run it:
Code:
minerd -a cryptonight -o stratum+tcp://qcn.ext-pool.net:3005 -u <wallet> -p x -q

Anyone using moneropool.org to mine?

I noticed moneropool.com say they can't accept more miners as they're at capacity (and more than 25% of network hash!), and have moneropool.org at the top of their list of alternatives.

moneropool.org look to be offering a 10% payout bonus?

edit: there's also a new version of cpuminer-multi which doesn't bug out and give all-boooos..  find it here: https://github.com/LucasJones/cpuminer-multi/releases
58  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New (more optimized) MRO CPUMiner on: May 24, 2014, 05:05:13 PM
Any new faster miner going on... Smiley

Lucas updates the source a few hours ago to fix a couple of bugs and add JSON 2 stuff..

binaries on github here:

https://github.com/LucasJones/cpuminer-multi/releases

I just started running the windows one to see if it fixes the "boooo" problem on monero pools.. to early to tell yet if it does.
59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 24, 2014, 01:34:55 PM

My suggestion is a reduction in the number of coins or altering of the reward curve.

Have to disagree.  The goal shouldn't be to have an "investment", its a currency for use as a tool.

I'd rather see trade-facilitation stuff built in, and a greater circulation - the value inherent in the coin will be driven by market uptake.  The reason BTC was successful initially is it was used for a large range of commercial transactions.. being able to spend it on goods/services created the demand and built the price.

Artificially limiting the number of coins to preserve the current spot price is just a short-term prop for traders, and ultimately adds no value to the currency.  Without the means to use it to buy actual items, its worthless, just like fiat.

Do you think we will ever see our coins?

Yes - the owner of that pool has been more pro-active than most and actively improving the pool.  Case in point is a post he made yesterday about fixing the bug in the pool software which gives lots of "boooo" results with cpuminer (there's a bug in the difficulty-switching code in the pool software).

That and the fact that he immediately put a banner on his site saying he was working on a solution makes me trust him much more than most pools, who just keep quiet.
