41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Current wallet 0.9.5 on: February 05, 2015, 09:43:19 PM
How/why does the official Unobtanium-Qt wallet (Win 7 pro) get out of sync?  When I see no mining revenue -- that I know should be there -- coming into it, I kill it, restart it immediately, and all of a sudden it's XX hours "behind".  Once it's finally caught up, I see the formerly missing mining revenue.  How/why does this happen?

Related to this, any word on the merge-mining?

I don't know... I have not seen this problem myself.
The network is healthy.
https://chainz.cryptoid.info/uno/#!network

How often does it happen? How many peers do you see?

It definitely is not the network; it definitely is the client.  I usually leave it running 24/7.  It happens at least once a week, I've had it happen up to three times in a week.

If I hover over the network-y looking icon on the bottom right, it says I have 8 active connections to the Unobtanium network.  That's now.  I restarted last night.  I guess I should look at it when it seems to not have been receiving any mining revenue I know is there.

Wow.  Where'd you find that?  I wish it were a Youtube video.  Guess I can save it as a bookmark.

Liked Bryce's plug for UNO.  As well as the dog howling in the background towards the end...

I noticed this was recorded before Bryce Weiner left Blocktech.

Lot of heavy stuff in it, I don't know what to make of it all yet.  It's all over the place -- Nazis, Prescott Bush, Ram Dass, Timothy Leary, CIA, Bitcoin, Crypto in general, you name it.  That Bryce is an interesting character.  Who was the interviewer again?  And what is "Hyper"?

I think I just need to listen to it again, on a boring snowy night in the middle of the winter.  Cry

Update:  It is on YouTube (as David Seaman says at the beginning of the audio):  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTPJdOd5VVA

Update #2:  New video today with David Seaman and Bryce Weiner on YouTube -- and with another plug for UNO! Smiley

Sorry. It has to be https. I had put http.  Correct is https://crypto.cat

Actually, if you have Chrome or Firefox browsers, just add the CryptoCat app and you're good to go.

If I'm not immediately active its because I had to get up for more wine. Don't worry, I only drink the cheap stuff so there's money to buy Uno.

Clicking that https link directly gives the same error in Chrome!

Ok, so I'm adding it now as a Chrome app.

As to the wine thing, doggone it, I was planning on hitting the hay early tonight without the usual bottle of Korbel Brut behind me this time of night, totally abstemious from that decent-tasting (but evil!) champagne.  But that CryptoCat app has spent at least 15 minutes so far "encrypting" (with a whole bunch of kinda interesting cat-fact trivia).  So I decided to honor my resolution -- and instead poured myself a small shot of vodka.

That Cat better quit "encrypting" soon ...

Update:  she never quit encrypting, so I finally gave up.

I'm going to hanging out for a couple of hours on CryptoCat in the chatroom: Unobtanium.

See if you can figure out how it works and come join me.  http://crypto.cat

Cryptocat is totally anonymous browser-encrypted chat.

@FK, that http link redirected to the https version which brought up this message in Chrome ...

Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from crypto.cat (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards).

Also, Chrome put a red line through the "https" part and a red "x" over the lock icon just before the "https" part.  Made me a bit wary; decided to not take any chances.
46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Current wallet 0.9.5 on: December 26, 2014, 09:09:11 PM
I think someone is trying to test our funds. There are some cheap coins out there which is not our orders.
Okay, there was a problem at Cryptsy. Our account balance shows minus now but we hope it'll be resolved soon. Afterwards, we will buy those cheap UNOs.
Thank you sellers in advance.

I have a negative UNO balance at Cryptsy too, but I think it's a combination of whatever their glitch was and me being sleepy.

I woke up in the wee hours of the morning and went and checked Cryptsy, saw a buy order for 50 UNOs I had made a day or so earlier had been filled.

Cool.  I transferred those 50 UNOs to my local wallet.  Or so I thought.  As I said, it was the wee hours of the morning.

I went and checked on a couple of other things (probably this forum, twitter, who-knows-what) then came back to look at the Cryptsy UNO chart again.

It showed in my Cryptsy balance I still had those same 50 UNOs.  "Damn, I thought I had transferred those to my local wallet!"  So I withdrew it once again, paying careful attention this time.

Except I hadn't checked my local wallet, beforehand.  Wee-hour stuff.

Then I checked my local wallet.  Damned if I didn't all of a sudden have 100 new UNOs in it!

Ok, this is getting weird.

I went back to Cryptsy and STILL had 50 UNOs available for withdrawal!!!

Then I saw a tweet from BigVern -- posted just 4 minutes earlier (this was around 5 am by now I think) -- that they were having problems with their deposits & withdrawals.

I decided it would be best to go back to bed.

When I got back up, my local wallet still had the same 100 new UNOs (50 of which hadn't made any sense), but my Cryptsy UNO balance was now a negative 50 UNOs.  And there were a whole bunch of strange BTC and UNO transactions there that I just couldn't make sense of.

It makes sense that I can't just withdraw 50 UNOs from Cryptsy I didn't have, and that they somehow subsequently "adjusted the balance",  I've just never dealt with a negative UNO balance (or anything else) at Cryptsy, so I'm wondering what I need to do (besides opening up a support ticket -- sure wish there was a human there I could just call).

I've got enough BTC there to bring the UNO balance back up to zero, why can't they just "transfer the appropriate balance", based on the price at that point in time?

Anyway, I've got to pay bills, pack and get out of town for 2 weeks, so I'll just deal with this later.

coaex, your "minus balance at Cryptsy" caught my eye, and I figured I'd just throw it my 2 satoshis worth.  :-)
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Current wallet 0.9.5 on: December 26, 2014, 08:30:27 PM
I took a look at coinking.io.  While they do indeed offer UNO mining, it looks like they don't offer payouts in UNO so you have get your payouts in BTC or some others.

Thats not true, you can auto convert to btc or keep the coins your mining. I have yet to sell any UNO I have mined and I have no intentions of selling anytime soon.

I wasn't talking about selling anything, I'm talking about auto payouts in UNO, not auto converting to BTC vs. just keeping on mining and accumulating one's UNO stash at coinking.

At miningpool.co, I have my payout trigger set to .5 UNOs (you can set it to whatever you want).  As soon as it's mined that much for me, it dumps those .5 UNOs into my local UNO wallet, Unobtanium-Qt -- the one I have running on my own PC.

No converting to something else to get those UNOs in my local wallet;  no keeping my UNO's "up there" where I have to go manually intervene to transfer to my pool's stash to my local wallet.

Coinking has auto payouts in BTC and 12 other coins, but not UNO.  If they add an UNO auto-payout option,  I may do say a 1-week test with my gear pointed at Coinking, then a 1-week test with it pointed at miningpool.co, then pick the better yielding of the two.

BTW, I see miningpool has finally fixed their stats page, which I've come to love!

Well.. appreciate that. We are getting 97% of the blocks at coinking and less than 4 min apart. Have used your pool and it works well. Gonna stick with coinking for now. Thank you for clearing that up.

I took a look at coinking.io.  While they do indeed offer UNO mining, it looks like they don't offer payouts in UNO so you have get your payouts in BTC or some others.

Its up and running fine now. I joined GM as a small investor just to test their service. Paid on 18th of december a 10 th/s contract via wire transfer and I still have nothing credited in hashpower. But I have full confidence in GM reading through various threads on the forum.

Dude, 10 TH/s is some serious hashing power, and at some not-so-small expense!  And you're doing that for *testing*??   Cheesy

Anyway, my experience with GM in the several weeks I've been here has been absolutely stellar so far.  So I hope your wire transfer comes through soon.
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Current wallet 0.9.5 on: December 25, 2014, 11:28:26 AM
Yeah, miningpool.co is my favorite as well. But I can't reach the website and I see no coins coming out from there as well unfortunately. Tried coin-pool, but the same: hashing happily but balance remains 0.

@Mike -- miningpool.co is back up!  At least for now.  I'm wondering if they've been subjected to DDOS attacks from time to time. When they're up, they work great!

coin-pool, uhh, I don't know.  Always seems like a work-in-progress.  Plus, the damnedest thing is their "dashboard" always crashes my browser (Chrome) if I leave it open for more than an hour or so.  Longer than that, it crashes my whole computer!!!  They were the first pool I used, got tired of that nonsense, tried some UK one that seemed OK for a week or so then they disappeared off the planet.  So for "local" mining, miningpool.co is it for me.

Quote
The mining return from Genesis Mining is just great. If I paid a fee for the electricity usage of my home miner every day I would not see better results, or perhaps even worse with the silly power prices here in the Netherlands, who knows. And forgive me for plugging my Genesis Mining discount code MMD, but it's for everybody's benefit in the form of a 3% discount.

I *believe* I used your code for one of my TH/s, somebody else's (can't remember) for my one other TH/s -- and I don't remember which came first.

I just read in the GM thread that someone had just purchased 10 TH/s as a "small investment".  Lordy! :-)

Anyway, I'm kinda tired of hardware.  I've got USB ASICs out the wazoo and 2 Antminer S3s.  The Antminers are actually pretty awesome.  But you've got to worry about your local internet connection and when you go out of town and something happens, you're out of luck.

I *am* going out of town from Saturday until about January 10th.  When I get back, I think I'm going to seriously try to sell my USB rigs and even the Antminers and maybe move exclusively over to GM.  I'll probably take a big loss on the gear (the Antminer S3s are currently going for almost half what I paid for them just a few months ago, and let's don't even talk about the USB ASICs), but at least I'll be free of the headaches.

Also, the big question is always -- is the payoff better when you *buy* the coin at this point when it's this cheap, or better when you *mine* it?  Or both?

51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Current wallet 0.9.5 on: December 25, 2014, 12:41:30 AM
What's up with all the UNO pools?! A lot are not or barely reachable, websites don't function properly or have timeouts and worse, and so on.

Hear hear!

My favorite, miningpool.co, has been off-line for several days now.  This happened a month or two ago, then it came back and had been working great.

uno.coin-pool.org I can barely get into, my miners all say they're hashing away, yet the balance never changes!

WTF?

Quote
Now trying http://miningpools.tk, but it could take a while to see anything due to lack of miners

Please let us know your results!

Genesis Mining has been doing great though.  I'm really impressed with them so far.

Right on, Jelks.
Lol--I wonder what ever happened to that guy who sold the pizza.  Did he dump 10k btc on Gox for $20, or is he now retired on a Polynesian Island in the Pacific. Sometimes a little patience can yield a big pay off.

I've often wondered about that too.  No tellin'.  He probably thought, "This is gonna cost me most of my pay check, but man, it's so hilarious, I've just gotta do it." Then ... he could have been Einstein/Nostradamus and held on to it, or he could have ended up like that fellow who mined a bunch of BTC way back when -- just for the fun of it -- forgot about it, his computer crashed and he threw it out, found out a few days later he was likely a BTC gazillionaire and went dumpster diving -- to no avail. LOL.

I also like mining the rare Uno at Genesis. I think it will do well in 2015.

I'm neither Einstein nor Nostradamus so I don't know exactly *when* UNO will do really well. Smiley  I'm just absolutely convinced, like you, that it *will* become like gold.

BTW, speaking of gold, etc., check out this "radio podcast" (I guess that's what it is) interview with Paul Craig Roberts ...

Black Swans are interesting critters.  Smiley  And I think they bode well for good crypto, whether UNO or -- a bit further on out -- BTC.

So, how much UNO does GM yield per say 20 GHS ?

I'll let you do the math.  Here is what I've gotten with UNO on SHA-256 @ 2 TH/s over 17 days:

Of course in the long haul, it doesn't matter how many "coins" or "fractions of coins" you get (and remember that the UNO mining reward will halve *twice* in 2015).  What matters is how the market will see that particular coin or fraction-of-coin, 5 or 10 or 15 years from now.  Sh*tcoins come and go.  By the hour it seems, LOL.

In my opinion, I think Bitcoin is going to be really good some years from now, with all kinds of pumps and dumps between then and now.

In the meantime, I'm just buying and mining UNO.  It ain't no sh*tcoin-of-the-day.  You'll see.

Definitely this guy that say this doesn't  have  sense of aesthetic and originality :
"The ultimate failure with this coin is due to its name, Unobtanium"

JUST THE OPPOSITE !!! This name is one of the greatest names ever in the world of crypto. Very powerful name. It's showing different philosophy! It contains a huge metaphor...

You said it well!

Folks that don't get it, well, just won't get it.

cryptodouble.com will double your coins in just 100 hours! 200+ different types of cryptocurrency are available! welcome!

You're spamming here too?

I notice you never replied to cryptapus' query in the Unobtanium forum to your same post you wrote here above...

Actually, I see now you post here under the name "async24".  Whereas in the Unobtanium forum you're "gsmon".  But the content/text is identical.

You really think we're going to fall for this stuff?

Good luck.  Hope you get some suckers.
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Genesis-mining.com || World's leading hosted Scrypt hashpower provider! on: December 19, 2014, 10:39:15 AM
I would like to just add my real example. I put some money here in GM in June 08: 0,42910000BTC

As of today, December 18 I received: 0.21294324 BTC

This is pure fact how this works. You never ROI. Please do some calculation before you invest.

You can't ROI when your "I" is bad -- at least as a *short* term investment.

Right now, Bitcoin miners are creating 3,600 new coins every DAY!  That makes the Fed's paper fiat look like gold in comparison!  Yeah, Bitcoin adoption is growing astronomically, but that doesn't matter -- 3,600 new coins per day is just way too inflationary right now.  The mining production will halve in 2016 to 1,800 coins per day.  Not exactly awesome, but better.  And in 2020 it halves again, only 900 new BTC per day.  With the 800-pound gorilla status that Bitcoin enjoys, that might prove sustainable.  And then it will continue to get rarer and rarer, and thus better and better.

I think if you just don't think about your "R" on your "I" coming in the next several months (years?), I think that you *can* and *will* ROI.  That 0.212 BTC could be worth a considerable amount of money 10 years from now (after several halvings of new mining production).  Can you wait that long?

The guy who bought a pizza back in 2010 for for 10,000 BTC probably thought he would "never ROI" either.  Wonder what he thinks today.  I sure hope it was the best pizza he ever had or ever will have.

I think 2013 was a bad year in terms of giving many newcomers a false hope of quick riches in the crypto world.

Personally, I only use Bitcoin for transactions at this point in time.  Need to send someone some money now?  Easy, I just deposit fiat online into my Coinbase account -- at whatever the then USD/BTC rate is, I don't care -- and transfer that BTC to the person.  Beats the heck out of wire transfers, Paypal, sending checks through the mail, etc.

But I don't keep a *store* of Bitcoin, either at Coinbase or in an offline wallet.  Too inflationary for me at the moment.  I only mine -- and buy -- Unobtanium (UNO).  Only 250,000 UNOs will *ever* be created (as opposed to, what is it? BTC's 21,000,000?).  And instead of 3,600 new BTCs a day, only 15 new UNOs a day are currently being mined (and that's going to halve twice in 2015!!!).

And even with mining UNO, I don't expect to get rich overnight or even "ROI" in the next 6 months (UNO is way under the radar, but with a solid, enthusiastic community).  I'm looking to 6 to 12 years out (and I'm already old).

I may be wrong, but I think that having a store of Bitcoin in the future will be good.  But I just don't have that feeling for it at this particular moment.

And nobody can (or *should*) blame GM for any "lack of ROI" within a 6-month timeframe.  It's the coin you choose (hopefully wisely), *and* the time frame you have patience for.  That's all it is, period.  Don't blame GM.

I am mining Unobtanium on my own mining gear (currently, I may sell the gear and switch *completely* to GM), and I'm mining it at GM -- which meets or often exceeds my own mining gear!

ROI is not GM-dependent.  It's homework, coin, and patience-dependent.

So kudos to Genesis-Mining!

And do your homework, be smart, and be patient!

@Jelks look for [ s] [/ s] in your post Wink

Ahh, thank you!  I must try to remember this.  Here was the offending line that started that strike-out text:

Quote
Have you considered the possibility that it's mining whatever particular coin(s) you've chosen?

except that with the word "coin(s)" as above, it had brackets instead of parentheses around the "s".

Funny.  Gotta remember those tricky brackets!

Thanks again, Pilotseye.
58  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Genesis-mining.com || World's leading hosted Scrypt hashpower provider! on: December 17, 2014, 11:45:48 AM
I don't understand what people are complaining about here.

I am mining Unobtanium (UNO) at GM.  I am also mining it on my local mining gear with miningpools.co.  The two are pretty much on parallel, with GM slightly exceeding miningpools.co in terms of payout.  But pretty much the same.

So you're complaining about ROI?

Have you considered the possibility that it's mining whatever particular coin you've chosen?

I really don't get it. If you've got CocaCola stock say at E*trade and CocaCola goes down, do you blame E*trade for lack of ROI?

I mean really?

Get over it.  If you don't like GM, please move on, but please don't fault their "lack of ROI" on them.  There are lots of mining farms out there, and lots of coins.

Choose wisely.

PS. I don't understand why these strike-outs appear in my posts.  I certainly didn't put them there, nor were they visible when I went to edit my message.

Android wallet is still in the works but it's progressing very slowly since I can't work on it full time.

On the next update, I might do some major upgrade to the qt wallet UI (add price ticker, news feed, irc, etc..) if everyone thinks that's a good idea.

Losing a big chunk of my stack in both coinex.pw and Mintpal v2, kind of kills my passion away from UNO and crypto-currency, so adding P2SH multisig in UNO will be my next goal.

Just sent you some UNO -- please don't lose your passion for it due to bad exchanges!

Yeah I see UNO that way too. I got into UNO because of daytrading BTC, UNO is the stable 'element' I daytrade againt. I really do think it has a rightful place in the crypto universe.

NLG has a different target: it must be a coin for daily use. The team is working really hard on that. Check the timeline of the achievements so far: https://timeline.guldencoin.com/

I agree with BitcoinCharlie, that's quite an impressive timeline!

So is NLG in essence a "national cryptocurrency", for use mostly (or only?) in Holland?

Interesting the part about the Guilder (in Dutch it seems it's "Gulden", sounds like it's etymologically related to, um, Gold Smiley that had been in use since something like 1252 -- until the Euro decided to assimilate it (and everything else it could in Europe).   So you guys are bringing the Guilder/Gulden back in crypto form -- I love it!

Thanks! And yeah, exactly! We are trying to bring the Guilder back. Many people are still nostalgic for the guilder, it was replaced by the Euro obviously. Trying to get it accepted as a regular way of paying for stuff.

And about trading, I'm no big time trader. We are talking a couple of satoshi's of profit here, it's more for fun. I just try and make use of the volatility of BTC, it was bouncing up and down 10% a day sometimes, with UNO lagging behind. Last couple of weeks have been much quieter tho, so not much trading to be done. I think it's better for the ecosystem if the price is relatively stable tho, so I'm quite alright with that. Also, I can only trade when I have time, with two jobs that's not often.

Julian, I'm very interested in how you trade UNO vs BTC.
