Either one of those pools are just as good as the other.  I suppose when we wake up we make a decision on which pool we think will be the luckiest for that day.

Yeah, but when you hop away from Slush, you pretty well sacrifice your shares in the block being worked on.  Best to stick with one or the other IMHO, or both of course, which would even out your variance a bit more.  You might find that's something worth trying: you could put half your ants on Slush and the other half on Ghash.  Personally, I would always stay with Slush - we might get some long blocks, but we certainly get a good number of short ones to compensate. It seems that you already voted then.  Until I did, I only saw the poll.

I see we're down to 6.7Ph again - the extra 1.4Ph has hopped away.
44  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [9000 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: October 09, 2014, 01:43:47 PM
I don't know if anyone can answer that poll anymore.  Makes me wonder if they have stopped taking answers.  I see no where to answer it.  Even on the first page.

It's definitely still there.  I just voted.  Smiley

hmmmmmmm

Either my browser (Safari) doesn't want me to vote in the poll OR I already voted and do not realize it because I accidentally "clicked" it without realizing it.

If you had already voted, it would still show the results of the poll so far.

What a great day! Let's confirm all 8 of these pending blocks!

AGREED!!!

Aproaching 8000 TH/s of pool hashing power...

Over the 8 Ph mark now and at least this time, I suppose we have plenty of blocks to show for it. Grin

OK, I will check it out. These are the fans I tried, but they only have 3 pin. The 4 pin looks very large, but I will trust your suggestions.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0026ZPFCK/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1

one of my S3 fans totally died. 0 RPM. on the fan it says model number JDH1238B I had a 3 pin 2000 RPM fan but won't fit because pins are larger and 4 pin. Any advise for me to fix or buy? Send it back to China or cut the connector?

You need a 120mm PWM fan, which has a 4 pin connector. While waiting for your RMA, you could fit a Corsair SP120 high performance fan. If you do, I would put the Corsair on the inlet and your good Bitmain fan on the outlet.  I've been running my S3s with these fans on the inlets from the outset.  Got them from Amazon.

The only thing I had to do to make it fit was trim off the little plastic rib from the middle of the 4 pin connector on the fan.  I mentioned this fan because it's an easy and quick fix, but if you try it make sure you get the PWM version.  They're on the pricey side, though, so I would definitely check out bspurloc's Dell fan suggestion first, as it might be the best option.

@sic1490
That is actually a good observation. We get in a good pocket of solving blocks, the hoppers come and "rock the boat" and out of the pocket we go.

Yep, we have seen it time and time again.

As we know, it ought to help not hinder, but it never seems to happen that way.  Perhaps over a longer period, it would go the way that logic suggests.  Problem is, the longer period never happens, because as soon as the blocks start to run dry, all the extra noses disappear from the trough. Sad

Hope it's not bust, lol.  We've already got 3 today (UTC time), so perhaps 6 is a good possibility?  I'm with you, though, mate - happy to take the 10 if we can get it!  Grin

Block 4h+ ended, no new block in history, block is reset again?

They don't show up in the list until they have been processed now.

So thats frustrating went invalid even tho we have a 30 sec faster timestamp then BTC guild on block 322930
Timestamp is set by the mining pool when it is generating the work. It doesn't even remotely have to be the actual time, it can be up to 10 minutes ago or 2 hours into the future and will still be accepted as a block.

Thanks for explaining. Smiley
54  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [9000 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: September 29, 2014, 08:59:44 AM
well TWO invalids in a row..that is depressing

22872    2014-09-28 17:44:02    3:07:13    18536389453    1523144    0.00218051    322947    25.25409850    invalid
22871    2014-09-28 14:36:49    0:49:51    5104588274       398765    0.00190317        322930       25.05311734       invalid

sheesh
Hmmm! Not very nice, is it? And despite that, the pool luck does not seem to have been affected ...... at this rate the proverbial light at the end of the tunnell is all we can hope for!

I like that phrase in this context.  'Light at the end of the tunnel' seems to be almost a miner's prayer! Smiley

We seem to have the earlier timestamp on the 322930 block as well, as wasikidding pointed out, so how does that work?  Huh
56  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [9000 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: September 28, 2014, 09:28:40 PM
SLUSH is reporting they won 322930 & 322947, but BLOCKCHAIN is reporting that 322930 went to BTC Guild and 322947 went to AntPool.

What's going on?  Huh
Both are showing being reported from US near New York as well ***fingers Crossed**** we need the luck Roll Eyes
322930 should go to us BTC guild showing reporting it like 30 secs later slush shows 14:36:49 BTC guild shows after 14:37
and 322947 appears to go to Ant beating us by 30 secs or so Cry

This doesn't seem very good, to say the least.  Cry

It appears a few changes have been made to web interface such as new block found there is no processing appearing to show that blocks potential reward in statistics?Huh? While the new block has begun
this is a little disconcerting as it doesn't show up  it makes it appear we lost the work for the previous 10 hour block I'm sure it will show up but the 5-20 minutes of processing without it showing will be a visual ugg.....and as this is the first block completed since web changes we wont know what will show until 15 minutes or so have passed I hope they did not make changes to the way the statistics page works Cool
So they just removed the processing part block appears after calculations are made!!...not sure why they did this but once again with no updates as to when things are scheduled to roll out it is a little off putting to see changes aka. passwords no processing etc. when you are used to a certain format. Roll Eyes

I agree, it is disconcerting now that the newly found block just vanishes (temporarily), whereas it used to say 'Processing...", so you knew what was there.  Just watched it happen with the latest one.  Much preferred it how it was before.

Slush stopped posting here some time ago. Until the beginning of this year newbies couldn't make posts in normal threads and the members that were posting were just asking the same questions over and over. It had got really bad so slush quit posting in this thread because he was just repeating himself over and over because no one would read past posts for answers. He added the webchat, a ticket system and Facebook for announcements. It sucks but this forum had got out of control. Slush is a highly intelligent person and to explain the same simple things over and over again when there is a knowledge base link on the pool page and plenty of pages in the forum they could review over became too overwhelming. Also, at the same time having clueless miners accusing him of crazy things because they don't understand how a score based pool works wasn't very productive for anyone. He was trying to write new pool software for the pool and create a Stand alone bitcoin wallet to help bring bitcoin to wider audience so he stopped posting here to create those things. You can still post with him in the Development and Technical threads, so he is still available and answers questions, just not the ones that he has answered 1,000's of times since 2011. He left this thread unlocked so we could communicate and help each other out.

Thanks Billbags. I had seen what Slush said at the start of the Slush's Pool thread, but you've really filled in all the blanks. I would have preferred a strategy that didn't punish everybody for the actions of a few, but if the forum had got out of control, I can understand why Slush did it.  Perhaps it's time for him to revisit it and at least post details of updates here.  He doesn't have to reply to them.  Just my tuppence worth. Grin

I love Slush's Pool, but I hate change. I'm "OCD" and this is going to kill me not having that "Real-Time" block processing on the stats page. I guess I'm going to have to suck it up and accept it.

Someone said they posted info on Facebook? Could someone give me a summary? I don't Facebook, this is the only social media I participate in other than email and the Google Search box. Thanks.

Edit: Worker Password issue does suck.

just for you off face book .Smiley

Dear miners,

as you may have noticed, the upgrade of our web server backends has brought the following changes:

- the minimum payout threshold has been lowered to 0.001 BTC

- worker passwords are no more editable, our stratum servers simply accept any password.

so for the password leave it blank or type anything  Smiley . some pools don't use one. but don't give out any account info accounts do  Smiley . just my guess to make it easy i use X with every thing but account log in .

So presumably there's a much bigger following for Slush's Pool on Facebook, else why would he put the info there and not here???  Huh
