41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: June 04, 2015, 06:58:04 PM
After reading some old threads from 2010, I noticed that there was a user by the name of Bytecoin that was involved in conversations with satoshi regarding improvements in bitcoin. Since bytecoin is using cryptonote tech and so is monero, it doesn't seem completely impossible that satoshi is walking among us with a new name. Thoughts? Could he be reading this very thread right now??!?

What we need is a way to generate additional blinded variations of a public key.  The blinded variations would have the same properties as the root public key, such that the private key could generate a signature for any one of them.  Others could not tell if a blinded key is related to the root key, or other blinded keys from the same root key.

What are the desireable properties of a blinded public key which are not achievable by generating a new public key? I'm not clear on what were trying to do.

As an example, say some unpopular military attack has to be ordered, but nobody wants to go down in history as the one who ordered it.  If 10 leaders have private keys, one of them could sign the order and you wouldn't know who did it.

Obviously this could be achieved by them all having the same keys but that's presumably unsuitable for some reason. It looks like you're trying to hide some information while trying to make it still available for other people or under certain circumstances but I'm not sure what.

Hello gents and gentelerets,

I would be interested in buying some gold (1000 - 5000 units). I will pay with blockchain Moneros. Please drop me your offers in a pm and we conclude the deal there.

Normally I'd be all over some CK transactions, but I think I want to hold onto the gold that I have. It's hard to come by these days!

5. CK market cap persists at about 10% of XMR marketcap. This is actually quite a lot, considering that CK has only a handful of active players and only 100 characters in total! It follows that CK users trust significantly more of their capital in CK than the average Monero owner trusts in XMR. If this trend has any staying power in the future as V.4 is released (and unless the release flops totally in terms of playercount), we soon see the situation where either CK overtakes XMR in terms of marketcap, or the XMR marketcap will have to adjust upwards in accordance.

I would be surprised if CK overtook XMR, but I can see it continuing to retain a significant chunk of the market cap as more players join the game and add their XMR to it.

6. In the longer term, it is an interesting option to develop CK to be the main UI for XMR use, to adopt the blockchain-secured private currency ingame such that the players feel secure to use it IRL circumstances as well in the future, perhaps via the partially-ingame wallet that they already have been used to. It is a very natural path to drive virtual currency adoption (both as a store of value and medium of exchange) from the virtual economy onwards, as there the benefits over other store-of-value and payment options are the most overarching. Virtual currency (BTC) has struggled to gain much foothold in physical daily transactions and is a total curiosity even after 6.5 years.

It would be amazing if you could order real items online while playing CK. I could have a shop on the main street that sells music equipment, get paid in CKG, and actually ship it to the person IRL!!  This idea needs some serious consideration, as it is the perfect venue for it (even works on mobile)!  This could drive adoption. Imagine if mainstream media caught on to the game and saw it as a way for people to shop virtually in-game. The possibilities are endless!

Hi friends!

Where is Fluffypony? Has his bitcointalk account been recovered after known social ingeneering attack onto bitcointalk?

Also I am confused about http://getmonero.org - it was not attacked, but latest news are dated "March 30"...

18:39 <•fluffypony> back to Berlin tomorrow night, talking about OpenAlias at the Bitcoin meetup

Or maybe you should be judging the currency based on its merits and not a single proponent of the technology who's writing style you find distasteful?

Oh *snap*

I wish more people would do DD before buying into crypto instead of just buying because of "community support" etc...if they did, they would see the great things that Monero has going for it.

Grin

Hilarious.  That's a short lesson as to why you DO NOT short Monero.

I mean, Monero isn't another shit coin.  It has true believers, some of which who have deep pockets.  If your shorts start threatening the long term reputation of Monero, all it takes is a few pennies out of the penny bank and fucking poof.

Margin call, bitch.

First rule of Monero Club: Don't short Monero club.

Haha and if you are a monero bull, and you can force a bunch of margin calls, its like a self fulfilling prophecy as polo auto executes monero buy orders in response to your monero buy orders.

Hah, exactly. This is why I leverage-purchased moneroj on polo last night after BCX's dump to 230.

The ingame King's Coinshop will continue operating, because in this arrangement there is still obviously a need for a swift ingame CKG/XMR conversion. Because the volumes are growing, and arbitrage opportunities emerge, more ingame institutional players are welcome to the arena. The King's Coinshop will retain a high-ish spread of 13% and be the last-resort option. (The King's Coinshop also "emits" more CKG to free circulation from HM holdings when prices rise, and "sweeps" it back when they slump, acting as an automated balance.)

I was intending to offer a lower-cost CKG/monerito conversion than the 13%. I hope to have this available in the coinshop shortly after the game launches. I was thinking something closer to 2-3%. The only thing is that for liquidity purposes, I may need some larger gold holders to invest in the shop, or at least offer their gold to be lent if a big buyer comes in the game and I don't have enough gold to cover it.

The deterioration of health and living conditions has been proceeding alarmingly. It is now accepted knowledge that the Very Ancient Two Springs that once provided the water supply to the Town and beyond, have lost their blessing, if not outright incurred a curse. The waters taste bitter and wrinkles have started to appear to people whose physical age is no more than 25! The scientists are theoretizing that the water might become less hazardous if mixed with a moderate amount of alcohol. In theory, the more, the better, but since too high alcohol content causes dehydration (which in turn can only be alleviated with water), they are now debating whether a 4-5% mixture would be optimal. They are not unanimous on the reason what might be the cause of the problem with the water. Scientific advances need to be taken on that, and also on experimenting whether rainwater or water from wells could be better. We also don't have the wells in the area, because of the "paekivi" type soil which is very laborious to dig, although the stone lends itself well on massive construction.

The new drink, water mixed with alcohol distilled from whatever is available, has been named "Mead" after the ancient drink that according to the legends gave the Vikings their strength.

This is quite worrisome indeed. If the water we are drinking is causing people to have wrinkles and tastes very bitter, I am concerned about the health of our population.  While the water may be less hazardous if mixed with alcohol, that doesn't necessarily mean it is safe. The Cold Spring Harbour Laboratory in 4-SE is located in a swampy unhealthy area, and it seems prudent that it should be researching the water issue (given its name). Lord noms has decided that the laboratory shall commence a full-out investigation of the water, sampled from various boroughs of CK, to attempt to determine the cause of any contaminates that may be present.

Tongue It's really not an issue; I posted it a while back and got exactly 0 responses or comments AFAIR, so I figured it must be pretty worthless (though I thought it was kinda neat).

Dont worry, we love you. Keep it up,  man  Cool

52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: May 12, 2015, 07:36:18 AM
Though, in general, I understand the GUI wallet push, but the only thing I see this advancing is an increased user-base, which could theoretically lead to increased hodling, which theoretically leads to increased price of the coin. But, if the coin fails untraceability due to people using mixin 0 and dust bombs then.... Huh

Fundamentals!!!

But its your money!! And I'm just a dude.

"its not a bug, its a feature!", people using Monero should know to have guaranteed untraceability and privacy they have to use mixin 3 or higher.

Since the general population is lazy as a rule, just make the default mixin 3 in the gui wallet and 95 percent of people will never change it due to ignorance or laziness...

The year 1600 is flowing by in the spirit of eager anticipation

Any day from now, the selected betatesters get their hands on the player UI.

Any idea when this will be? Also, is there any kind of signup for beta testing?
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City) on: May 08, 2015, 01:22:40 PM
it is clearly evident that it's not possible to play this game without very deep interaction. And this is another thing that many 30-somethings in the western world lack. Even if they had a family and job. Which is totally sad, but I feel that offering this game for tapping to that need is a good thing to have. Changing the society outside of us is hard, creating a better one is perhaps not easy, but at least it can realistically be tried!

Hear, hear!

Updated info about CK seen on IRC (edited for content) - posted on Sun, 3 May

<Roopatra> sXpher, do you have something to share to all of us?
<sXpher> I can tell you that a crazy amount of work has been done, all 90% subgames have been complete backend and front end, management tools are all complete, user management for admins as well as editing tools
<sXpher> I don't want to overstep though, updates need to come through fluffypony
<sXpher> Just waiting for HM to come online so I can go through some of his formulas for buildings, and we'll finish off that logic this week
<sphericon> That is great news
<sphericon> Does that mean it is getting close to finished?
<sXpher> Yes indeed
<sphericon> Awesome!
<sXpher> We'll first give testing access to HM, and then I'm sure he'll have a couple of you guys test it
<sXpher> And we'll iron out bugs you come across as we go along
58  Other / Off-topic / Re: If BTC goes to $1000 or more, what would you do? on: May 04, 2015, 11:02:53 PM
I would definitely hold them all--they are tied up in Monero anyhow Wink

I'm hoping there will be a state or jurisdiction that will embrace crypto, somewhere in the world, sometime within the next few years.

It's possible that The Isle of Man could be that jurisdiction...
