I hold every owner of GLBSE the holding company equally liable, being the first rat off the sinking ship with your words does not excuse this obligation.

But being held to no regulation pretty much does.  Sorry, but this is why regulations and laws exist.  Trust people with money at their word, and they'll screw you every time.  This community is the living screaming proof of that.

But hey, caveat emptor, right?

So what stores will my grandma be using this at?
43  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will the state do? on: October 06, 2012, 10:54:35 PM
You guys have a real paranoid streak.  The feds don't give a shit about bitcoin.  You can't buy food or land with it, and the entire economy is only worth about 100 million.  Besides, the rampant constant scamming done with it is doing more than enough to ensure no one will ever trust it on any large scale.
44  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does Quantum Computing mean for Bitcoin? on: October 06, 2012, 10:51:30 PM
It will mean you still can't buy anything with bitcoin.
45  Economy / Securities / Re: GLBSE owners lied to us. How to move forward and fix this? Move to Exchange X? on: October 06, 2012, 09:26:04 AM
Yeah, move to Exchange X.  After they rob you, move again.

How many times do you have to get scammed before you wise up?
46  Economy / Securities / Re: GLBSE is offline We will update our users on Saturday. on: October 06, 2012, 09:21:24 AM
Bitcoin is ready to drop this piece of whit forum with everything it represents and move to completely new location.
Not only 90% of BTC "businesses" are total scam, this forum is owner(s) and its pompous moderators are scammers too. You can not expect anything good from a cesspool like this.
Fuck you all for lying to this community every fucking day and supporting scammers like Trendon Shavers, Nefario and obviously theymos, who wanted to dump his share of that shit on the community.

Theymos, do you have balls to tag yourself as a scammer? LOL!

I have a fledgeling forum stood up if a small number of you want to be my bitchesbeta testers.  As usual, my rule of "I don't owe anyone anything," applies, so no ads, donations, etc. unless I change my mind.  No free for alls and no bullshit, except of course I'll have to put a "trolling" flag on posts, now that I think about it.

PM me if you want to help build out the structure and content and help me prioritize functionality and defect resolution.  Cool kids only.

Just wait until you realize that no matter where you move the game, the scammers will always follow.  Sorry, but bitcoin is for scammers.
47  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario on: October 06, 2012, 03:46:02 AM
So, he decided to screw his reputation with the community in the hope of not getting jailed by the gubernment. This is not going to end well.

Oh yeah, its gonna be rough when he registers a new username and does it all over again thanks to the total lack of regulation in place to ensure he can't do just that.
48  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] BDK.BND (1%/week) *IN DEFAULT* on: October 06, 2012, 03:25:29 AM
His name is Nefario.  How could you people not see this coming?  How did you not learn your lesson after getting scammed by a guy named pirate?
49  Economy / Securities / Re: GLBSE Situation Summary (Offline)(DMC)(Usagi)(TYGRR)(etc) on: October 06, 2012, 03:21:42 AM
I prefer money that I can spend.

Oh and look, it isn't coming back up.  A bitcoin business that turned out to be a scam?  Why, who could have predicted this?

Good luck getting your money back, he's using deposits to pay legal fees.
50  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Miners operate the majority of Bitcoin nodes. on: October 05, 2012, 11:54:15 PM
Why is this a problem? Why should every user be influenced into installing software and operating a node?

A reminder that you ran a script that ran software on other people's computers without their knowledge or consent.

Stop posting here. You're banned from this thread. Why are you posting here when you know you are in violation of this forum's policy?

What policy?  Anyone is allowed to post here.  Hell, they still let Atlas post here.  You clearly don't have the power to ban users in this specific thread, and you have zero authority to compel them to stop.

If you don't want people casting light on your insurance scam, don't run one.

What a joke.  This kind of unprofessional garbage is so typical of this place   You never see real exchanges just randomly go down or get massively hacked, because real money and expertise is put into them.

They go down (FB IPO) and get hacked all the time.  You think they're going to go around publishing it?  They make an insurance claim and it's back to business as usual.

Bitcoin is just a hodgepodge of cobbled together half solutions and none of you dares to question it.

A lot of us are working on the other half.  Rome wasn't built in a day.

So you know they get hacked because they don't report it?  Proof by Lack of Evidence is not a strong argument, you know.

And hey, I get that it takes time.  It's not as if you can just develop a decent payment system and get it funded and picked up by a giant, well established company right off the ba-

Oh yeah.

And hey, with Square, I can buy something other than illegal drugs and child porn, and the prices aren't insanely inflated for it.  And it doesn't take 20 minutes to complete the transaction!  I mean, yeah, its basically just another way to spend US Dollars, but so are bitcoins, and we all know it.

I guess the NASDAQ isn't a real exchange in your book?

No money was stole, and those trading systems themselves weren't even compromised, your point is disproven by the very articles you linked. Perhaps you should have read them first.

That is a testament to just how solid those systems were built.  None of that even comes close to just how badly Bitcoin systems get compromised and robbed.

Bitcoin, on the other hand, allows its systems to be built and audited by teenagers, then believe wild stories about chinese hackers when they inevitably get hacked and everyone loses a ton of money.

Except nothing says any hack occurred or any funds have been stolen. Let's at least wait until Saturday and see if anything happens before claiming things as a fact.

Hell, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this one.  I still have the entire history of bitcoin on the side of my argument.  Even if this does turn out to be nothing for the first time ever, I still can't believe you people would put up with being given no info at all when your money is at stake like this.  I thought in a libertarian society, bad service == no business, but not at the bitcoin forums.  Hack an exchange and claim it just went down?  Everyone will believe you and defend you to the bitter end.  That "Thank you Pirate" thread was the best as well as Zhou Tong's Chinese relic collecting millionaire hacker that only he could talk to.  I can't believe they got away with such transparent lies.

It doesn't really matter what really happened.  By the time anyone figures it out, the money will be long gone.
54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The EFF's damage to Bitcoin continues. on: October 05, 2012, 08:46:14 AM
The legal concerns they express are valid.
What legal concerns? There is nothing illegal about Bitcoins. Stating otherwise is pure FUD. Treat them as any other kind of non-fiat donation. I donate my underwear and even cash anonymously to the Salvation Army, and then take a tax deduction for it, as do millions of other people. Bitcoin donations are no different.

Let's pit you against their lawyers, then, and see who knows more about this sort of thing.

That is a testament to just how solidly those systems were built. Even if they did actually go down, the redundancy is absurd.  Nothing brings down those systems.  None of that even comes close to just how badly Bitcoin systems get compromised and robbed on such a hilariously frequent basis.

Bitcoin, on the other hand, allows its systems to be built and audited by teenagers, then believe wild stories about chinese hackers when they inevitably get hacked and everyone loses a ton of money.

Think about all the other times something like this has happened.  Mybitcoin, Zhou, pirate.  They always assure you everything is ok, you people always believe them, and it is always a scam.

Atlas, why is your 'Ignore' link highlighted?

 Huh

It is simply so good an idea that the forums software itself has evolved the ability to communicate it to you.
58  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you want to know why I hate the dev team and how they treat Bitcoin... on: October 04, 2012, 11:52:55 PM
Here, for your edification, I'll just crosspost what Atlas is basically advocating for here

Quote from: Angela Christine
It is beautiful that people in that thread want a client that doesn't contribute to maintaining the network. According to libertarians people who live off the hard work of others while contributing nothing themselves are leeches. Atlas and pals don't want a "light client" they want a "leech client".

It is going to be a train wreck either way.

The current client is a huge turnoff to curious newbies -- you download the thing and then spend hours or days downloading the block chain. That is a problem when you expect a couple billion newbies to join the network in the next few years.

If you create a leech client, then most people will opt to be leeches, leaving only dedicated miners running the full client. As the difficulty rises and the rewards shrink, more and more small miners will drop out. Eventually most of the nodes will be concentrated in the hands of a very few people with expensive ASIC rigs. That undermines the whole structure of Bitcoin. The rules can be changed if the majority of nodes agree. People who have invested heavily in mining want to keep mining forever, it is not in their best interest for mining to stop at 21 million coins. Yeah, transaction fees are supposed to take over for mining rewards at that point, but the few people running very powerful nodes may decide they want transaction fees AND rewards.

Then again, maybe he'll defeat mathematical reality with The Power of Positive Thinking.
59  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you want to know why I hate the dev team and how they treat Bitcoin... on: October 04, 2012, 11:43:44 PM
Then you should help out, or fork your own branch.  Sorry, it's open source, the devs can do what they like, and if you lack the knowledge to stop them, its your own problem.  That's the Free Market for you.

If you can't be bothered to learn the necessary skills, hire someone to do it for you.

Not that I disagree, but also note competing against a popular branch is an uphill, likely losing battle because of resources dedicated to it. That's largely the fear against power consolidation with a Bitcoin Foundation. Often it's more effective to fight for changes than go off alone.

Huh, its almost like Free Market philosophy is fundamentally flawed, and without regulation, the biggest and richest entities will always hold absolute power.
60  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you want to know why I hate the dev team and how they treat Bitcoin... on: October 04, 2012, 11:40:58 PM
Two more thoughts, Atlas.

First, I find it ironic you're so upset about the devs making you run code you don't want when you yourself ran a covert javascript app to mine bitcoins without user permission.

Second, you're a Randian, yet you want to use the bitcoin network with a client that doesn't help maintain it?  You want to profit off the work of others without giving anything back.  That's not very libertarian, now is it?

Of course, you've made it quite clear before that you are held to a different system of morals than everyone else.  Funny how when the devs do something you don't like, you cry about community, but when you do something similar, its ok because it benefits you and everyone should just accept that.

You are such a fucking sponge; the fact that the admins let you back on here is a testament to bitcoin's terminal ability to rid itself of damaging elements.
