41  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: July 26, 2016, 05:04:30 PM
haha, now we literally need a screensaver for trezor?
It's quite possible. I did a little research before asking here and it looks like people have suggested implementing a screensaver before, because they ran into the exact same burn-in issue as me.
42  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Can I offer the use of my electricity? on: July 24, 2016, 11:05:08 PM
Thats really cheap electricity so i think your city might not be a big city means not very technologicaly progressed so i doubt you will get a good internet connection which works continuously without disconnecting. If it does then u can try this.
He's in Canada, so he shouldn't have any issues with connectivity. It seems that most ISPs in Canada are fairly reliable, even the poor ones.

OP, I'm going to assume that from your username, you're located in Banff. If you're located inside of the park, your options are probably fairly limited as to how much hardware you can host. I doubt you'll be allowed to build a warehouse to host mining gear inside of the park, but that's probably higher scale than you're planning on going.

If you plan to host a few miners out of your home or business, I think people would definitely be interested in 4 cents per kWhr power rates so you may have some people take you up on miner hosting services. The main problem with that plan is that you're a Newbie on the website with no previous trade history. Most people won't be willing to send you mining gear worth thousands of dollars for the promise of cheap hosting services as there would be nothing stopping you from running off with their hardware.
43  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: July 24, 2016, 03:23:41 PM
I'm wondering if anyone has noticed burn-in on the screen of their Trezor? I recently changed the background of my Trezor and noticed that the original padlock logo (default background screen) was burnt into the display. I was surprised when I saw that, because I try and only plug my Trezor in when I'm sending funds, so it shouldn't have many screen hours on it.

I know it's a far shot, but any sort of a fix for this problem? I was thinking I could make an inverse padlock screen and set that as my background, but I'm not sure if that would do anything.
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What do you think about using AWS for Mining? on: July 24, 2016, 03:17:08 PM
You can get some free AWS servers but the amount of storage and traffic you get is very low.
I'm not sure what the cost is once you go past the free tier but yeah its probably way higher than the amount you would mine,
and since its CPU mining it would have to be Etherium or some altcoin, right?
Storage and bandwidth (I think you mean bandwidth when you say traffic) aren't really important factors for mining. Modern mining programs are lightweight and can use very little bandwidth (especially if you set a very high share difficulty, but that probably isn't a good idea). Like -ck mentioned, it wouldn't make sense to mine straight bitcoin on a cloud instance. However, if you're able to get an instance for a third of the price and you're able to jump on a new CPU-only coin, there's a chance you'd be able to make some money. I remember some people used cloud instances a couple years ago to mine CPU-only coins as soon as they released, and some of them were able to make a bit of money. Keep in mind that they only used these cloud servers to mine for short periods of time (days or a couple weeks usually) because usually it costs more to pay for the server than you'd be able to earn from mining. Additionally, some VPS providers will shut servers down when they see that they're being used for mining, because of the huge drain on CPU resources that mining uses. I'm not sure what Amazon's policy on mining is, but that's something you should keep in mind.
45  Economy / Lending / Re: [no collateral] 0.015 for 0.017 return on: July 24, 2016, 03:06:41 PM
only joke is you
Roll Eyes Insulting potential lenders sure seems like a great way to try and get a loan.

It does seem extremely odd though that you were inactive for a 15 months, and then you magically come back to request a loan.

I haven't deleted anything, check bctalkaccountpricer.info

It shows staked addresses, even deleted ones. I've just never posted one.

This isn't a hacked one I was inactive thank you
It also seems a little odd that you seem to know so much about bctalkaccountpricer.info, when the site was created in August of 2015. Your last posts (before this loan request) were made in April 2015, so months before bctalkaccountpricer.info was a thing.
46  Other / Meta / Re: Question about Forum finances on: July 23, 2016, 05:37:35 PM
I think theymos ended the deal around a year ago.  He said it here.
Though the ad at the bottom didn't get removed until months later.
Thanks for the information. I was under the impression that the forum still had ties with PIA in the form of their hosting sponsorship. A little off-topic, but any idea why the sponsorship deal was cancelled? IIRC a few months back there was some discussion as to how much control theymos had over the Bitcointalk servers (could he truly secure them if PIA hosted the servers?) but I think that discussion was just among the community here and theymos didn't chime in.
47  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcointalk Signature Campaigns {Active} on: July 23, 2016, 04:31:20 PM
Don't want to burst your bubble, but what's the point of this thread when we already have this thread that has detailed information on all signature campaigns (that pay out in bitcoin) on the website?
48  Other / Meta / Re: Question about Forum finances on: July 23, 2016, 04:20:20 PM
I'll never know why so many people are interested in the forum finances, how money gets spent etc, especially if they've never donated anything.

Odd.
I think it's just interesting to see what kind of expenses and income a forum of this size has. I was quite surprised to see that the forum made ~ 645 BTC (at current prices) from ads during 2015, I thought that ads would have brought in a lot less money.

On a different note, I remember that the forum used to be sponsored by PIA, and PIA hosted Bitcointalk. I don't see a note at the bottom of pages on the website anymore stating that PIA sponsors the forums - has this deal ended? If so, I'd be curious as to what the estimated annual cost is to host these forums. I don't imagine it would be too cheap for a website this size.
49  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Windows 10 64bit Pool 0 difficulty changed to 1024 on: June 16, 2016, 03:43:01 PM
how can i check if the miner got supplied 12V power? if like that why my miner is working fine when i use the cgminer 4.9.2 and without bmsc enable? correct me if im wrong.. here is the screenshot its working fine but my problem is the hashrate gigahertz is going down below 20gig

-snip-
I didn't realize the miner worked fine under cgminer with bmsc disabled. If that's the case, then it shouldn't be a power issue with the device. But, to be clear, this is how things are working for you:

cgminer with bmsc disabled = low hashrate (~20GH/s)
cgminer with bmsc enabled = high hashrate(~60GH/s)

Is that correct? If so, why not just use cgminer with bmsc enabled? Like I mentioned in my previous post, the difficulty change messages aren't errors, they're just the pool adjusting to your hashrate for optimal share submission rates (a share every x seconds).
50  Other / Meta / Re: Why cant we tip others in bitcoin in the bitcoin forum? on: June 16, 2016, 02:01:36 AM
Lol, I don't think anyone here is interested in tipping anyone else.  With exceptions, of course.  I did tip someone who gave me a tutorial on how to do a screen shot copy/paste thing, and I did so because he had his bitcoin addy in his profile.

It would be nice to have a tip bot, I think.  I just don't think people here are going to give up their precious bitcoins.  And most of the posting here is shit anyway.
To add onto that, I don't think the work required to implement a tipping function would be worth the usage it would see. People scarcely give out tips, unless they open up a bounty thread to have their question answered quickly.

I think theymos already chimed in on this topic a few months ago, and isn't interested in implementing this feature mainly because it would make the forum liable for any lost funds, which is understandable.
51  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] two HD 7950 MSI Twin Frozr 3gb GPU on: June 15, 2016, 10:22:57 PM
so, go buy these cards then-or are they yours?
as I see it, make a bid or get off the sale thread.
Roll Eyes Those aren't my listings - do a little more searching on eBay, OCN, or other sites that have hardware classifieds and you'll see similar prices everywhere. But, you're right, it's your listing and you have the right to ask what you want for your components. GLWS.
52  Other / New forum software / Re: Shadow / Stealth Type of Ban Please on: June 15, 2016, 10:20:47 PM
This prevents the user from creating new account(s) as they believe they're still taking part in the discussions.
I don't think it would help in that regard. What would prevent the user from logging out of their account, navigating to the thread they just posted in, and then looking to see if their post is visible? Also, if you're thinking along the same lines of a Reddit shadowban, would a shadowban be permanent? I wouldn't see much use in having a temporary shadowban, as it wouldn't really be a ban for the user at all. Their posts would be hidden for a week or two, and then be shown again after that.
53  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] two HD 7950 MSI Twin Frozr 3gb GPU on: June 15, 2016, 10:07:48 PM
i would be happy to continue mining with them.
people just don't take eth vs $ prices into account
At $160 you'll probably just keep mining with those cards. It's not tough to find 7950's selling for $100 USD or less. Please see below:

Exhibit A
Exhibit B
Exhibit C
Exhibit D
Exhibit E

I think you probably get the idea - all these listings were posted within the last month and the highest asking price out of those five was $110 USD shipped. You might want to reconsider your pricing after viewing those listings.
54  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: June 15, 2016, 03:13:50 PM
i think you can remove zebpay campaign, because zebpay only accept indian people
It shouldn't be removed because of that, but it should be removed from the list of campaigns because it looks like that campaign just wrapped up yesterday.
55  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Windows 10 64bit Pool 0 difficulty changed to 1024 on: June 15, 2016, 03:10:49 PM
Some pools automatically change the share difficulty depending on the hashrate, so that a share is submitted every x seconds on average. I don't think the share difficulty is what's causing you issues, that's just your pool modifying things for you on the fly.

Are you able to check and ensure that the miner is receiving a solid 12V of power? I've had some issues before with miners acting up when the voltage being supplied was too low (for example, if only 11.5V is supplied to the miner you might run into problems like this).
56  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Trezor vs Tails on: June 15, 2016, 03:01:03 PM
You're mixing up different things now as Tails is a Linux distribution and Trezor is a hardware Bitcoin wallet.

They are two completely different things.
Not really, in this case. You can set up a secure bitcoin wallet inside of a Tails environment, or instead use a Trezor. The OP was wondering which bitcoin wallet is more secure: an Electrum wallet inside of Tails, or using a Trezor inside of his normal OS.
57  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Trezor vs Tails on: June 13, 2016, 07:52:45 PM
Can anyone tell me which is more secure and why?

Trezor hardware wallet or Tails live booted from verified DVD using Electrum

Security from tails depends on how you will store your private keys. It won't be very different from using a wallet without Tails.

Hardware wallets main advantage is that private keys never leave the device and are really hard to extract.
...and to add onto that, hardware wallets are a lot easier to use than alternate cold storage methods. Rather than boot from a DVD into Tails, you just need to plug in your Trezor, open your wallet and send your funds. It doesn't get much easier than that.

I'd say as long as you safely secure your private keys (ex. memorize your Electrum seed, keep the seed written somewhere secure), using Tails + Electrum would be as secure as a Trezor. The main difference between Tails + Electrum and a Trezor is the cost - if you're planning on storing a large amount of bitcoin in your wallet, and you're willing to shell out $100 for a hardware wallet, I'd recommend the Trezor. However, if you aren't storing large amounts, or you don't want to spend $100 on a hardware wallet, then Tails + Electrum should serve your needs just fine.
58  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Questions about outdoor bitcoin mining on: June 13, 2016, 07:45:21 PM
Why would you want to build a outside one? for security reason's I would of thought it would be a very bad idea.
It would prevent heat from building up inside his house or apartment for one reason, and you wouldn't have to deal with the noise of the miner. Running a miner during summer can be a real killer, especially when outside temperatures can consistently be in the mid 90's.

I would tend to stay away from storing mining gear outside in a little "mining house", especially during the wintertime. If a warm miner is shut off during the winter, any moisture in the air can (and probably will) condense and freeze onto the miner. That in itself probably wouldn't be a major problem, as long as the miner is thoroughly dried off before rebooting again. If you were to ever have a power outage for a few minutes, you'd probably be kissing that miner goodbye because it would be off just long enough to have moisture condense and freeze on it, and then it would power up again and short things out.
59  Economy / Services / Re: Web Design / HTML / CSS / JS on: June 13, 2016, 07:38:32 PM
You say that you're a senior web developer, so you should probably have a portfolio of previous work you've done. Have any links you can provide to potential clients of work you've done before?
60  Other / Meta / Re: Activity & new membergroup limits on: June 09, 2016, 02:51:22 PM
Is very interesting, but I still don't know how to calculate the activity
If you aren't sure how to figure out how much potential activity you have, you can just plug your UID into a site like this one, and it'll calculate your potential activity for you.

If you're interested in seeing your actual activity level, you can take a look at your profile. Your activity level is shown there.
