41  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Drake and Bruno Mars An Example of How Gambling Addiction Can Affect Anyone on: March 18, 2024, 06:45:33 PM
While we often discuss Drake's well-documented struggles with irresponsible gambling and the "Drake's Curse", it's important to be aware  that gambling addiction can affect individuals from all walks of life. In this regard, let us take a moment to look at the case of another celebrity, Bruno Mars, whose gambling issues have manifested differently from Drake's.

Several internet sources today has reported that Bruno Mars borrows money specifically for gambling purposes, this is one thing that goes against one of the  rules of responsible gambling. Bruno currently owes 50 million dollar in gambling debts. I am not going to bore you with the detail. Therefore, I will leave a link to the full story - https://www.nme.com/news/music/bruno-mars-is-reportedly-50million-in-debt-due-to-gambling-3602329.

The lesson to learn is that gambling addiction is not respecter of Gender, economic status, race, nationality, religion. It will mess you up, bring shame and disgrace to you if you don't abide by the rules of responsible and do all you can to avoid it.

Before sharing the news that wasn't verified as accurate or real, you should put a disclaimer.

Browsing the web, you are right that there is a lot of news on different websites about the "alleged gambling debt" of Bruno Mars but if you look at the majority of those websites publishing the story, they are only relying on ONE SOURCE and that's from NEWS NATION.

Let's also not just look at the title but read also the content. It was NEVER reported that Bruno Mars borrowed money just to gamble. He inked a deal with the MGM Casino several years ago and I will assume that part of the deal is the privilege of Bruno Mars to gamble on the casino without cash-on-hand or the casino probably give him some regular bankroll periodically. It seems Bruno Mars enjoys gambling so much that he abused his privilege with the casino and now ended up in gambling debt.

Anyway, I know that it's not about Bruno Mars or Drake but if ever that's true, it should be clear to us what's the moral lesson of that story.
42  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will You Fire Your Best Employee Who Is Addicted To Gambling ? on: March 18, 2024, 05:21:21 PM
We owned a small eatery just a few blocks from our home and overall, we have 3 people working there (2 cooks & 1 all-around helper).

They are all addicted to playing online slot games even during their duty but still, no work goes idle and they can maintain a smooth operation. I even play with them and I know what they're doing during work operation. I even allowed them to drink late at night as long as it wouldn't affect the next day's operation.

Being addicted to gambling doesn't mean they are being irresponsible people already. If they are a better and responsible person outside their gambling habit, that shouldn't be a reason to fire them. It's unfair to judge the book by its cover. Different story though, if I will see them showing strange behaviours.
43  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: March 17, 2024, 08:22:06 PM
I’m really hoping it works out though because I think Isaiah got a bum deal in Boston and should have been rewarded for his loyalty and sacrifice.

Isaiah Thomas during his Celtics tenure within 3 seasons, is undoubtedly the very best of him in his entire career. He was considered to be at a superstar level as he carried the Celtics, became a 2x All-Star member, and first time to be included in the All-NBA second team.

But I don't think the Celtics should have rewarded him to be signed with the team this year because of his loyalty and sacrifice(?). That's a big word and I don't see on what part he showed sacrifice for the team where in the first place, it's the responsibility of the players to be better on their team as much as possible.

The Celtics should sign Thomas to show recognition for his contribution. After all, Thomas did everything and showed interest to return for the team, even just for having a jersey, and a short contract, for one last time. Imagine that for just a reunion. But the Celtics didn't make it happen even according to the report, they are interested in signing Thomas. I feel sad for Thomas that the Celtics didn't grant his desire even though he pleaded for it.
44  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul to Fight Mike Tyson in Live Netflix Boxing Event - July 20 on: March 17, 2024, 07:55:32 PM
I don't understand what in the world they are thinking about making this fight happen because this does not really make sense at all since Mike Tyson already reached his limit at 60 years old, he should not be doing this in any way shape, or form whether in a real match or just another exhibition fight because he has already done for and the best thing he can do is just sit and give advise to anyone who want to hear his stories.

It's the first-ever partnership of Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions (MVP).

Entertainment purposes = Big Money

Jake Paul is one of the founders of the MVP. It's clear who's the winner in terms of money making.

Although has no added cost as it will stream on Netflix live, it will attract more users to simply pay a subscription on Netflix for the simple reason that "it's Mike Tyson". When Mike Tyson first entered his exhibition match against the other boxing legend, Roy Jones Jr., the fight generated over $80 million total revenue, and that was the year of PANDEMIC and no live spectators in the arena. Just imagine now with live spectators plus other paid stuff.
45  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022–23 PBA Commissioner's Cup on: March 17, 2024, 07:18:38 PM
Converge is really not the same anymore ever since they let Ahamnissi ang Jeron Teng go. And there's a rumor that coach Ayo will be replace soon. I don't know if there can still make something to make this team competitive, because even if they have a good coach but the lack of quality players is the major problem I see in this team.

I agree with the post above that Converge being competitive can only be seen in import conferences (Governors & Commissioners). Their previous hired imports in the history of the franchise were solid and caliber imports such as Tom Vodanovich, Jamaal Franklin, and Quincy Miller.

And no, Converge does anything to keep Ahamnissi but since the latter is an unrestricted free agent, he can go and sign with whatever team he wants as his target but unfortunately, Converge doesn't seem the team he wants to stay with. But Converge needs to move forward.

That's what I like about the whole PBA Converge team from executives, managers, staff, etc. that they don't want to give baby treatment to anyone. If they think the player is not happy with them despite that they can match good offers from other teams, they will let go of that player. As for Coach Ayo, he also has the guts to tell their imports to always try to associate with the locals like what he did to Jamaal Franklin that known for ball hogging.
46  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Stop gambling if you don’t have free time to do it on: March 17, 2024, 06:47:57 PM
The result is I don’t have much energy at work due to insufficient sleep and I lose funds on gambling because I keep playing quick due to my limited time. The effect is very disadvantageous to me since I both lose in these situations. This is the reason why I change my gambling pattern significantly that limit me to play only during weekends when I don’t have job tomorrow.

Same to you OP, I had that habit before that after finishing all my night regime activities after work and it's now time to rest, I will take a bit of playing slot games before taking a long nap. However, once the game goes into the exciting and thrilling part where winnings are more often to happen and free spins are exploding like crazy after just a few manual spins, instead of just a bit of playing, it will now pump my eagerness to continue without realizing the night is going too deep.

Good thing I've now changed and only do gambling once I'm sure that I'm free all day long so that in case of continuous winning and luck associates me that day, I can also accommodate them all day long. The only solution there is to force ourselves to change.
47  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you prefer betting your own predictions or from prediction site on: March 13, 2024, 11:34:04 PM
There are gamblers who have great instincts and can forecast games that may end up winning the bet. But they are scared that they may lose. They dont trust their own betting predictions so they would rather go to a gambling prediction site to some daily betting tips.

So i want to know as a gambler that you are, do you feel following those betting predictions from those sites would favour us in gambling more than our own predictions? For me i trust my predictions and i have won more when i predict for myself than letting someone predict for me.

It's because the pressure of just analyzing the game without putting any stake is different from actual betting with a staked amount.

There are lots of good and knowledgeable people at every sport and league and they can form a pre-game analysis that does make sense. But are they scared that they might lose once they bet on it? No. It's just that they are not used to being gamblers or sports bettors.

Just here in my place, I was surrounded by some knowledgeable people in my favorite sport, basketball. They even do know most leagues compared to me. But not touching any sports betting sites since they are not used to it, just a simple and plain reason, and not that they are scared to lose.
48  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022–23 PBA Commissioner's Cup on: March 13, 2024, 11:02:45 PM
He's brought championship to TNT and that's why he's demanding. But if I am the management of TNT, I'd just let it go because if someone don't have that passion to play for the team despite being paid that much, he should know that even this is a professional league and career, budget might be a problem for the team although they've been there around for a long time. There could even bigger problems as you've said since the salary cap is bypassed if granted his request for a bigger cap.

Saying Mikey Williams brought a championship to TNT is not an appropriate description to say, at least for me.

When TNT won the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup, Williams might have been the Finals MVP there but the whole cast of TNT also contributed big. It just happened that Williams topped the scorecard but overall, he's not the one who brought TNT a championship back then. Can't say he brought the championship in that case.

When TNT won the 2023 PBA Governors Cup, the league couldn't give the MVP to the import that's why the locals are chosen. But on the whole series, it was their import Hollis-Jefferson as the main reason why TNT dominated the Brgy. Ginebra in the Finals.

Mikey Williams has had a bad attitude even before. Always late in the practice without being noticed, always asking for a max salary increase even way back in his rookie season because he claimed he was good (yes he's good but not professional). TNT can move forward without him not unless Mikey Williams itself will be humble in returning to the team.
49  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Get one btc right away or 5 btc with a bet? on: March 13, 2024, 10:25:21 PM
It's not always easy to make the right decisions. Are you a gambler? If you're offered 1 btc without playing or 5 btc by playing (with a chance of 2 to 1). What do you do?

The answer should be pretty obvious but let's make it realistic. No one will offer BTC1 to me for just simply not playing. There should be lots of footnotes under that. There should be terms, rules, considerations, given factors, things to do, and something along those lines.

My final answer? - Depending on the terms.

- Once the terms are cleared, that's where will I just fully understand what choice should I make.
50  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do the juice Worth the squeeze? on: March 13, 2024, 10:06:50 PM
Do you think that the benefits in gambling Worth the invest of your money and your time with knowing that your chances are Just 50/50?

Benefits of gambling? Like what are those benefits that we can value as worthy of investing in?

If you don't understand how risky gambling is, you should not consider gambling as an investment.

For example, these people who take gambling as an investment are those already skilled ones who always compete in a competition like a billiard player, or basketball player, that hasn't reached yet the status of being professional.

But if you talk about just relying on your luck? Better forget it mate.
51  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can you stake on a potential(obvious) loosing team just for love? on: March 13, 2024, 09:40:29 PM
Question: Can you have so much love for your team to behave like this guy that even when you know your love fans team would loose a match, would you still further stake on the match against your team?
Remember that we are catching funs here and whoever chasing after profits is at its own will.

We must consider that there's a pure bettor, a pure fan, and both at any sport.

As to my preference, as a bettor and as a fan, I can behave like that guy in your story but still, it depends on some situations.

Of course, I will stake on my favorite team, but if the odds are not that interesting, I'd rather skip that betting or find ways to take advantage of betting on my favorite team that will also give me a good profit in return - like betting against a person or something along those lines.
52  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why People Have Different Perception Of Gambling Operators on: March 13, 2024, 08:56:36 PM
Do you have the same situation like this in your country where gambling operators are not getting the same treatment?

A cockpit arena owner is not a gambling operator. Technically, just owned the event and venue of cockfighting. The operators behind the cockfighting are far way more powerful and big people. If people despise the arena owner then they are barking at the wrong tree. The blame should be on their respective families and the "real operators" instead.

Besides, the environment between betting on the lotto and betting on cockfighting is different. In the lotto, an ordinary person can just easily bet there with a minimum of $0.5 per ticket (6 digits). In cockfighting, your $50 won't take you in the long run. We should also take note of the fact that lotto is easy to understand compared to cockfighting where you need to understand how betting takes place and you should also familiarize yourself with the terms used there.

It's not the treatment that should be highlighted but I think it's more of, the level of impact it brings on the gambler.
53  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A Man bet his life savings on 1 spin of Roulette on: March 13, 2024, 08:37:11 PM
First of all, I'm sure that video was created just for entertainment purposes.

Second, let's say that's true, I doubt the actual life savings are put at risk.

The expression shown was not the usual reaction of a person betting the entire life savings. Even how courageous that man is, he shouldn't withstand the real experience of being under pressure. Just another video rolling on the internet gathering views.

Anyhow, I won't do such a risky act. Gambling is already risky, I don't want to make it more risky by staking my life savings. That was crazy.
54  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you have this practice of gambling during one's wake on: March 10, 2024, 07:20:47 PM
Gambling activity during a wake also serves as a way to provide the family with some financial assistance regardless if the family doesn't ask for it. Yes, these people can just give money to the family through donations without doing gambling but when there's an active gambling activity in a wake, it likely can invite other random people to be involved.

More people doing gambling = more chances of money flow for the family

These "other people" who were being lured into gambling at that wake don't even know who's the one being at the wake. They are just there to gamble.
55  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A call to self-examining our gambling habit. on: March 10, 2024, 06:43:28 PM
As gambler when last did you self-examine your gambling habit to create that awareness based on how you are gambling in order for you to be quite sure if you're within a considerable or an acceptable range of a gambling habit that is void of addiction or the tendencies of gambling addiction.

I think if gamblers could take certain step in setting up regular self examining question towards themself it will be helpful to them in their gambling life not to ignorantly be harbouring a gambling addiction or compulsive gambling lifestyle. Quite a number of gamblers are nursing an addictive gambling habit without knowing and for them their gambling life is normal but if they should  genuinely scrutinize or put their habit to test it is possible they could find varied errors to correct and be right on track again.

Don't you think so?

Should be an automatic approach from any gambler while they are being more active in gambling.

While gambling for a long, our mind will tell us at what stage we are now in our gambling habit.

But the problem is, even though most gamblers already know the problem inside them, and the fact that they are aware of what's going on and what they need to do properly, they will ignore it because they want to achieve something good in gambling - to win decently. Several attempts will be made until they fall slowly into addiction and they won't realize it.
56  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A personal view on: March 10, 2024, 06:19:10 PM
👉 how do you view women gambling in your area: I've never seen a woman standing in any bet store before gambling,

Just a normal scene in gambling to see women. Just be used to it.

I understand that maybe in some places, women are not seen usually involved in gambling but that should be normal.

👉how do you view notorious gamblers: I've been around some bet shop and have seen people watse more than a months salary on virtual or very huge amounts and woudl be sweating out of lose and have no choice but to chase their loses and end up losing even more. Do you view this persons as irresponsible to their family and themselves? Or do you pity them as victims of gambling habit as it can happen to even the most righteous person?

If we will be based on the cover of the book, that's our usual impression of those types of people.

But are you sure they are chasing their losses? Maybe you are right about most gamblers there but still, there are addicted and notorious gamblers but not show any shitty attitude outside their gambling activity.

Are they irresponsible to their families? No one knows unless you will personally investigate their lives.

👉how do you really feel when you lose money on gambling?  Do you feel bad or just lie to yourself that's it was for fun?

It's hypocritical for a gambler to say that it's fun losing the money even if they afford to lose that amount.
57  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: We need more multiplayer casino games! on: March 10, 2024, 05:55:35 PM
Similar to PVP games that's why we don't see it on most online casinos as a LIVE MATCH.

There are lots of irregularities that might happen behind the screen;

- we don't know if we are facing a real human and not a bot
- devs can just put a programmed player there and act like a normal player (or in MMORPG private server game, it's called Playing GM)
- the ladder match, leaderboards, or any type of points-gathering competition is prone to cheating

It's more fun on a physical betting shop though since it's like just playing usual arcade games.

It might be fun but online casinos won't surely bother to integrate that alongside the usual casino games.
58  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does possessing information play an important role in betting ? on: March 10, 2024, 04:27:43 PM
Let's not make this too technical.

Of course, as a gambler, before engaging in gambling, you should at least know what the hell are you doing in the gambling world in the first place and how you can deal with the risk here. Anyways, I'm referring to gambling in general. You won't enter here and risk your money without having any information, right?

Anyway, I read comments about sports betting. Referring to that, having information plays a vital role in doing a good analysis. Although the match result is still unpredictable at the end, will you risk betting on something that you didn't know why you placed a bet on? That's a suicide bet. If you will behave like that in sports betting and just rely purely on random luck guessing, better switch careers.

60  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Pattern that 99.9% Leads to Bankruptcy: High Rolling on Slots! on: March 07, 2024, 05:43:26 PM
I observed a lot of this pattern on most of the streamers I’m watching. They often start low betting that later on increase bets regardless if they are winning or losing. They keep increasing their bets because they have different reason to do so just to level up their game.

They increase their bet when winning using small bet because they think they should win more if they only bet higher amount after hitting high multiplier on small bets that result to chasing that high multiplier again using high amount. This always resulted to lose. I watch a lot of gambler that already up by x2 of their bankroll by betting small and winning big that later on bust all their bankroll because they increased their bets permanently without hitting anything significant win.

It was part of the entertainment that's why most streamers have such a pattern wherein they're mixing bets each spin and the highlight is betting with a high amount. The most common is the one you mentioned which starts from a low bet and then with just a few spins, will switch right away to a high bet. From there try to maintain that bet range depending on the result.

But the fact is, once these streamers are out of the stream, they don't behave like that. They will not go easy with the high bets right away and will try to test the waters first at low to medium bets until realizing that they're ready to risk high bets.
