It uses the original bitcoin client and makes no special tricks with your password. The whole authentication process is entirely handled from Facebook. We have no access to your password, it is submitted directly to Facebook and never to the App.

How do the apps work? Do they both hold onto all the private keys to all the addresses? Or do something like blockchain.info/solidcoin?
It would be cool if somehow they used a password to generate the keys and used the password to re-generate the keys to sign a tx message so not even the facebook app could run with all the BTC.
bitcoin-app.com uses the original bitcoin client and no special tricks. Sounds like a nice idea bitlotto. But actually the whole authentication procedure is entirely handled by Facebook and I have no access to the passwords or their hashes.

After a successful startup in the Newbie forum, bitcoin-app.com is ripe for you. Check out our Facebook Bitcoin App at http://bitcoin-app.comand get a 0.01 BTC welcome present (limited to the next 50 users). The App allows you to send Bitcoins to your friends or any other Facebook member for free. The clue: The recipients don't need a bitcoin client or any other background to claim their coins. An ideal way to further spread Bitcoins in the world. http://bitcoin-app.com

Wow Matthew, so aggressive.. I decided not to argue with you any longer. I don't like these style of conversation. Sorry. Be sportsman. We'll end up with nobody using any app. Have the people decide which Facebook App they like more: bitcoin-app.comor http://apps.facebook.com/yougotcoin/Sorry Matthew, I pressed the "Ignore" button now.

I continue with bitcoin-app.com because yougetcoin has some drawbacks. The by far biggest one for me personally: The app asks for the permission to write literally anything they want to any wall in YOUR name. That is dangerous and absolutely not necessary. I like apps that only ask for the things they need as a minimum to work. The second issue: You can only send coins to your friends on Facebook and to bitcoin addresses. bitcoin-app.com allows to send coins to any Facebook member (you can search for them) or to bitcoin addresses as well. But hey, try both and make your decision

My guess is that a lot of the lack of privacy is nothing to do with that apps themselves (as you say "basic info" is minimum), it's that facebook don't care about protecting me and will hand over more than I want to any app.
For the paranoid like me, that unfortunately means -- no apps.
Indeed, actually any Facebook app can see the basic info of any Facebook member without anybody has to grant permission. BTW: The withdrawal granularity is updated to 0.00001 BTC now (was 0.01 BTC before).

THIS APP WILL RECEIVE: - Your basic info
- Your email address
Why on earth does a bitcoin app need access to any personal information whatsoever? A good point. The answer is easy: There is just no way to write a facebook app without asking for the basic info. It's exactly that what you give in public to all the other Facebook users on Facebook. bitcoin-app.com uses: Your name (to talk to you), your Facebook-ID (to connect it with your bitcoin account on bitcoin-app.com), your language (for translations in the future), the list of your friends (to show it to you). Additionally we ask for your email (that is special) for the simple reason to contact you in case Facebook e.g. closes the app because they might don't like bitcoins. We would have no way to give you your coins back if we would not have your email. Concerning yougetcoin: I agree with you. I really don't know what yougetcoin wants to do with your birthday. Makes no sense to me. And they want even more! Ones you grant the permissions you quoted above, they require another heavy weight permission: to spam on any wall (those of your friends and others) literally what ever they want in your name. That's what I would never grant to any app...

I saw already. You look-up a friend.
You can send coins to any Facebook member, not only to your friends (see the search button)
