41  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Random GPU going down and restarting days later? on: September 29, 2011, 05:38:44 AM
I experienced the same thing.

Honestly the only solution I found was to keep the core clocks at only a 5% overclock increase instead of the 10-15% many people report possible on these forums.

Good luck.

What's up guys? Check out all of the items I am selling on eBay right now right here: http://search.ebay.ca/?sass=ibuyvideocards&ht=-1

These are not my cards, they are my crazy friends who does not have an ebay account, but I can assure you they are all in great condition and I am putting up my own reputation to back the sale.

The buyer of any auction can make payment in bitcoin if they so choose.
43  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Please remove Bitcoin from Sourceforge.net on: August 22, 2011, 09:59:00 AM
Notepad++ left them for similar reasons iirc.
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ixcoin - a new Bitcoin fork on: August 10, 2011, 06:53:21 PM
This is ridiculous.

There are already 580,000 ixcoins in existence? And you expect people to start mining for you?

IF YOU WANT TO MINE IXCOINS, WHY NOT JUST MINE NAMECOIN?

There are only about 950,000 namecoins out there that are equally fairly distributed amongst a few thousand people already, and they have another purpose behind them which isn't simply "get rich quick".

Namecoin was released to the world with only a few (re: couple) blocks solved by the creator, and difficulty was set to 512 originally to protect against the early adopter problem of people gathering millions of coins before it actually took off.

If you want to learn more about namecoin, check out the dot-bit website.
45  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin is not politically-neutral. on: July 20, 2011, 07:15:13 AM
Bitcoin is a tool. It is politically-neutral since it is incapable of holding political views. People on the other hand are not politically-neutral.

It is a tool and tools are designed with a purpose. Tools with a specific purpose will serve these purposes along with their shared sentiments. The purpose is obviously freedom.

If a tool were truly neutral, it would be incapable of anything. To say a screw-driver is neutral is to say it's not for screwing screws when obviously that's its intended purpose.

There is no such thing as a apathetic tool unless it is used inanely with a handicapped view of reality.

Perhaps to you.

I am politically neutral, but I am capable of things.

Think before you speak.
46  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama's "Justice" Department wants to force you to decrypt your DjWVBeXx4ZHsvGME on: July 20, 2011, 07:12:59 AM
Basically you don't have to even press a kill switch.  The encrypted data automatically becomes un-decryptable after a certain amount of time.

But then becomes re-encryptable once that encryption method is eventually cracked a few years later, am I right?

If congress imposed a 100% tax on everyone making over $250k, confiscated all of last year's profits by the Fortune 500 companies, and took all assets of America's 400 billionaires...we could fund our gov't for 8 months. Maybe its time to look at the real culprit here: the government and its spending problem.

If the government did that, I would have no incentive to make more money (or get a job)...
48  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anybody who has not seen this movie should watch it tonight! on: July 20, 2011, 06:54:45 AM
Fantastic movie; been on a documentary binge lately. Unrelated to Bitcoin, but if you like documentaries you might like This Film is Not Yet Rated.

Hey hey jakemates, the former css moderator for a few days at r/bitcoin, is that you?

I will check that one out as well thanks, I have heard a few references to it already so it's high time!
49  Other / Politics & Society / Anybody who has not seen this movie should watch it tonight! on: July 20, 2011, 06:30:33 AM
I am currently watching "Inside Job" by Matt Damon I think is the main narrator... it's perfect fodder for the bitcoin community!
50  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC in slow free fall? on: July 19, 2011, 07:55:36 PM
I've been keeping records of various statistics, including the current value of the BTC and have noticed it steadily declining over the last few weeks.  I don't think I've seen it go up once.  Does anyone know what's going on?  The highest value I have for the BTC is from when I began keeping records, on 6/16/11.  Then it was 16.7 USD/BTC.  Today, 12.52 Sad

Since I started watching at 2:00, the sun has only gone down. It looks like it is going all the way down. What will the earth do without the sun? /sarcasm

You really need to use a longer history to learn anything about the price of bitcoins. The price is still more than twice as high as when I started watching just a couple months ago.

I found bitcoins when they were trading at about $0.60 USD/BTC. That was only back in March.

IMO we are on a steady, rocketing incline. Up 15 times over the previous 4 months. Woohooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

53  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Computer retail store and Bitcoin ? on: July 19, 2011, 07:47:07 PM
What are your thoughts on getting your hands on one of these systems (http://asicminer.net/?p=58) ?

Those are a scam, don't bother reading that page.
54  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Computer retail store and Bitcoin ? on: July 19, 2011, 07:45:26 PM
Im the owner of a little computer retail store in Canada. I sell custom made built computer and of course computer part (AMD, Intel, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, ATI, Nvidia... etc). I think I will accept bitcoin as currency, do you think i s a good idea ? Is there any potential customer here?

I live in Canada.

If your prices are competitive, of course I would buy from you.

No, I will not spend $500 in BTC for a CPU that only costs $200 in CAD. Or even $220 in BTC for that matter.

I tend to get the best deals possible for most of my computer equipment, as I imagine many of the hardcore bitcoiners out there currently do as well.

Maybe you could charge slightly less than retail cost, in knowing that BTC value will increase over time?
55  Other / Beginners & Help / Hey Newbies! Want to really help out the community? Buy a coffee and read this.. on: July 19, 2011, 07:44:18 PM
The Bitcoin community needs coders/programmers/techies/hackers/etc more than miners and speculators.

Don't know anything about programming? That's OK!

Google to the rescue: https://code.google.com/edu/courses.html

The majority of the bitcoin client is written in C++ however python and Java projects are also quite prevalent.

It's a billion degrees outside, so cool off in front of your computer fans and start learning to code!
56  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: First commercial ASIC miner specifications and pre-launch on: July 19, 2011, 07:28:57 PM
They haven't even posted the blurry pics promised yesterday, though this could be due to having a buy-out offer if that claim had any truth to it.

Lol. Right. Because all of us are more than skeptical, somebody has surely approached them with a multi-million dollar buy offer.
57  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin song - The Ballad of the Bitcoin on: July 19, 2011, 07:27:58 PM

Nice work!

Somebody, get this man out of the newbies section ASAP!

I suggest you contact "Bruce Wagner" and see about getting the song played before/ during/ or after one of his "onlyonetv" bitcoin webcasts. He does them quite regularly.

Good luck, and great song.
58  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Organized campaign to discredit / destroy BTC? on: July 19, 2011, 07:24:52 PM
No one posting video to youtube is are going to destroy bitcoin.

Also very true Wink
59  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BitCoin Pricing Formula on: July 19, 2011, 07:22:02 PM
Interesting formula!

It is a great idea to keep your own personal metrics about various mining aspects.

When I started out, I calculated the speed/USD cost of each potential video card and calculated how long it would take to pay off from there.

You are right however that the valuation of a BTC depends on many other factors. The most impossible one to guage being "speculation".

I have seen USD/BTC prices jump as much as 30% in a single day.

So whatever you calculate today, might be off 30% by tomorrow Tongue Don't you just love bitcoins!?
60  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Organized campaign to discredit / destroy BTC? on: July 19, 2011, 07:18:49 PM
So what if they are?

They would have to break SHA256 in order to really "destroy" BTC.

No publicity is bad publicity is what I always say.
