If you guys want to see trading on more than just coinexchange.io, please ping Yobit.net and ask them to perform the wallet maintenance. As far as I know, all they need to do is simply recompile the wallet with the recent fix (from the end of the year). I've pinged them a few times but they don't respond. If you post in this forum that you've pinged them and asked for this, they may also read the thread (it's asked for in their coin support request).

"Weekly" update:  Wink

1) Got the mac wallet compiled back from a BCT forum user. You can download from our Resources page.
MD5 hash: 8545a242acfd5315efa888bc0d876353

2) A couple of us attended a local area carbon reduction meetup. I introduced GreenCoin briefly and got some fresh interest from a new group of folks, so that felt good and gave me a renewed sense of imperative. We even got one more producer ... woo-hoo! That's 20 now! (but only about 10-12 active, unfortunately). I've been invited to give a formal presentation at the group next month, so we are working on a powerpoint deck narrative for this event. We'll probably post this to the website as well so it can be shared with others.

3) The web developer was in attendance as well, and I think this event helped show him there's some interest out there in the concept and mechanism overall. This may help to speed up the deployment of the coming Producer portal and easier new user sign-up process, which we agreed would definitely be good to have by the next meeting (early April).

what person (or people) actually control the private keys that send the awards? I know the "SolarCoin Foundation" is a group of volunteers, however, they can't be collectively responsible for the award payments. The website doesn't talk about this for some reason. Does anyone know?

it's coming along guys. hopefully soon.

I like this project, the only thing I have a problem with is the coin supply. 50-100 million would be ideal.  Wink
simply think about it as trading in 1M coin blocks. For example, currently there's ~100M GRE being offered for 1 satoshi at coinexchange.

So 1 BTC = 100M GRE, 10 mBTC = 1M GRE, etc...

It's sort of funny (in a sad way) that after 2.5 years the entire ecosystem is barely worth $27k. It would be really funny if the idea ever ended up taking off and growing. You never know

exchange is having trouble syncing.

this is an issue due to the forking that occurred starting with the staking problem that first manifested itself around 5/15. I know if you close and reopen the client it gets back on track. I've had to do it a dozen or so times for a single blockchain download.

I'm wondering if it would be helpful to post a bootstrap.dat file somewhere to help with the syncing.  I think it just takes someone renaming the blk0001.dat file and posting it somewhere.  I believe the file gets processed again and verified by the current nodes so it is safe to use and should help people get past the forks.  (Please correct me if this is incorrect information).

To re-cap the issue is the blockchain simply stops downloading despite being connected to peers.

the bush league fix is to stop the client and re-start it. I wiped the roaming folder clean (windows) and downloaded a new blockchain twice. The first time it took 10 restarts (the first one happening at block 92,500 or so, which is May 15th). By block 161,9xx it did not require any restarts.

the second time I ran it with the -debug flag and for some reason it only needed to be restarted twice (the first time at block 93,145 and another around block 200,000).

Both times I eventually got the client back to the proper block height though.

Sounds good, It does appear to be more stable now, good work. I do have a question though My staking is only about 0.02% of my coins at any given time. Is that normal?

the "spendable" are staking too, I was never entirely sure what the "staking" really meant... someone else may know??  Huh

ping your favorite exchanges and let them know about the update if you want to trade!

The coin's software protocol was updated earlier this month and a windows wallet was recently created. It didn't require a fork, however, the more folks running the new version of the protocol the better.

WALLET UPDATE (windows only, so far, and source code of course, if you compile these things yourself).

On the OP I updated the windows wallet link but deleted the mac wallet for now, until a new one is compiled.

An android wallet will be better. These days more than 60% of the traffic is via mobile devices.

this is a good idea; could get a bounty going for this

hand up for #general #producers & #marketing

I am a slack virgin so will try to figure it out over the next few days

it's essentially a message board with channels. It's nothing special really.
60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GRE] GreenCoin - A Tradeable Carbon Credit Ecosystem on: November 28, 2016, 06:06:34 PM
I got a message from Chris asking me "are you a renewable producer at grcoin.com?".
I answered I am a Greencoin supporter but not (yet) registered as a renewable producer.
The next day I was kicked out of the Greencoin slackchannel by Chris.

What kind of behaviour is this?
Kicking Greencoin-supporters out and limiting their access to Greencoin information sources?

This will not help Greencoin at all. Very disappointing...

The #Producers channel is specifically set up for current renewable producers. The idea would be this is where producers could post comments, questions and concerns about their renewable systems and how it relates to greencoin (not that anyone has yet). This is certainly not to "limit access" about GreenCoin. I invited you before checking to see if you were a producer or not. You are still a member of the slack community. The slack community is brand new and has been used very little.

I take personal offense to the "behavioural issues" comment. First of all we were having a private conversation and you could've PM'ed me first to discuss. I certainly consider that to be a "behavioral issue," because I would not have treated someone else in this manner (a.k.a The First Law of Kindergarten). Second of all, and this applies to others as well, the community forum like Slack is set up for others to communicate among the other members. Do you have contributions to make to #marketing? #tech-dev? I haven't seen a request to join any of these other channels.  I see a lot of "where' s this update / where's that update" all the time. Hopefully coming, but in the meantime, have you contacted me on where to donate cash for the developer fees? Have you asked how you could help if you have developer skills? Do you have lawyers breathing down your neck for a $50k tab or $1500 for the final movie payment? State registration fees? Corporate expenses? Hosting fees? Have you done anything to promote or otherwise grow the community? I get nothing out of this, I don't even have that many coins; they probably are mostly owned by some of the large producers and/or stakers (and I'm not even staking at this time due to the technical issues). The Foundation is a non-profit, which by definition loses money, and it most certainly pays me exactly $0 for my effort. If you're hoping to do absolutely nothing and punch a meal ticket in the future, you have that right, but I'm not going to sit here and take the negativity without response.

I've got one horse in this project and that's the holistic value of founding and seeing through the early stages of a purely peer-to-peer, free-market carbon emission trading mechanism. That's it. I do indeed appreciate anyone and everyone's support, but I have emotions too, and I definitely see what happened here very differently then how you do.

Taking a positive spin I hope to more users in the Slack channel as we start to grow. Defining some purpose to this growth this is what I was foreseeing:

  • #general: Everyone is automatically a member of this channel. Foundation-level updates will be posted here. I'll also post them in this forum anyways.
  • #random: Everyone is automatically a member of this channel. The Foundation won't post anything official in here, it is just for the users to banter.
  • #producers: This channel is for current renewable producers. They will be automatically invited once they have joined the Slack community.
  • #marketing: You can join this channel by request. It's intended focus is on specific marketing and promotion for GreenCoin.
  • #tech-dev: This important channel is specifically set aside for development, security and technical aspects of the "coin" (blockchain software protocol).

I may add #web-dev shortly.
