I need to have all of the above Grin
This is a poll where you can check all or none of the boxes when you vote.
42  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Texas Wants Its Gold Back, Too! on: March 27, 2013, 03:47:07 PM
You missed political showmanship off the list of reasons
I'm happy to add that to the poll. Added!

The bitcoin economy is easy to sell things at a (small) profit, so right now a good way to get more BTC is to find things a lot of people want to buy, and start selling it.
44  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Why isn't Avalon ASIC open source hardware? on: March 27, 2013, 03:44:58 PM
Ok, if that's true then you should have no trouble getting a patch accepted into the Android Open Source Project, OpenStack, or another Open Hardware initiative.

But it doesn't work that way, unfortunately. (And that irritates me a lot!) I'd really like to take this discussion deeper and talk about why things are that way, but I'd rather get an answer to this first:

Why don't you, samborambo, ask Avalon to make good on what they already promised?
45  Other / Politics & Society / Texas Wants Its Gold Back, Too! on: March 27, 2013, 03:38:55 PM
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/03/26/texas-wants-its-gold-back-wait-what/

I posted another thread about Germany wanting their gold back (and the above link mentions Germany too).

As the fine article says, "Wait, what?"

If something is going on, do you think it's "hyperinflation, ... a total collapse of the U.S. monetary and political system, ... post-apocalyptic hellscape" as suggested by the article?

What do you think? (I'd be happy to add poll options.)

5 hours left.
//DeaDTerra
So it's been 5 hours now Smiley

Does that mean we have a winner?
48  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 27, 2013, 09:32:27 AM
(Honestly, this looks like a bug.)

But assume that's a real bid wall:

I have bad news for him.

There will only be 21,000,000 BTC, ever.

There are only 10,600,000 BTC available right now if he bought every last one.

There's no way he'll be able to buy them all for $84.

But assuming we all went totally insane and everyone sold him 10,600,000 BTC at $84,

He would spend $890,400,000 and have $1,399,999,109,600,000 left over with which to buy:

All the world's GDP: $69,970,000,000 (we could all just receive a paycheck from him for a year and do nothing)

All the US's real estate: $25,000,000,000

(I want to add in the cost of real estate worldwide but there aren't good figures on it, so please just skip this plot hole, thanks!)

Unfortunately, at that point he would own the entire world and would have to burn the rest of his $1,399,904,139,600,000 in one giant bonfire, because nobody would have any goods, property, or services to sell him so the USD would be worthless.

Of course, BTC prices would skyrocket. BUY BUY BUY!

Luxury cars lose a lot of value the moment you take them off the lot. Something like 10%-15%. Still, it does seems like a pretty good price.
50  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Why isn't Avalon ASIC open source hardware? on: March 27, 2013, 08:54:19 AM
Avalon doesn't want to become a "central mining hardware authority."

They are disappointed that BFL is such a failure. They want to have competitors.

They could help competitors by publishing their designs, but that actually tends to push competing designs out of the market, because it's cheaper to just copy Avalon.

Oh, and by the way, they claim they will open source their software. (It hasn't happened yet, though.) Why don't you ask them to make good on what they already promised?

Avalon has grown really tired of this forum's behavior (troll, off-topic, reading comprehension fail).
51  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: mtgox - 2 quick questions on: March 27, 2013, 08:51:22 AM
You can trade as long as you have funds.

They expect any standard image format, so pdf is fine and jpeg is fine.
52  Economy / Marketplace / Looking for an escrow holder on: March 25, 2013, 10:36:01 PM
I'm in the process of a purchase that will be finalized here on the website when the right email is received. Are any well-respected members interested in escrowing the transaction?
53  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Avalon ASIC Batch 2 on: March 25, 2013, 05:43:52 PM
$12,500 is 833% of the original $1,500.

The USD/BTC rate is $75 (416% of $18-ish).

Amazing that the ASICs are selling for so much! Smiley

PM sent
55  Economy / Speculation / Re: Confused About Coinlab Plan on: March 22, 2013, 06:37:42 PM
An email was sent out earlier this week (I'm guessing to anybody who had signed up for beta?).  They have hit some delays, which are pushing back the 3/22 date a few weeks.
Thanks! Good to know.
56  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the MTGox - Coinlab deal in trouble? on: March 22, 2013, 06:36:57 PM
It wouldn't take much effort on Coinlab and Mtgox's part to have a blog where they could spend 3 minutes a day updating people about the situation..
They did post on another thread that they wanted to hire a PR person. I suspect that's because whatever Mtgox or CoinLab say will have a noticeable effect on the market.

So in one sense, they're being fair by not posting anything. If they did post something, someone would start to claim they were insider trading on the volatility they can cause.

Still I would personally rather see regular posts. It would be more fair if they posted exactly one article at exactly the same time each day (0:00 UTC maybe?).
57  Economy / Speculation / Re: Confused About Coinlab Plan on: March 22, 2013, 06:29:43 PM
On the Official Gox / CoinLab Integration and Transition FAQ thread, Mark (MagicalTux) said:
Hang on a second.  Where in the MtGox TOS does it say MtGox has the authority to sell sensitive identity information to third parties without the express written permission of the account holder.  Last time I checked with wasn't a merger.  I gave my identity documents to MtGox not Coinlabs.

Did it even occur to you that you have right to that information?  I guess not.  Client's identities are just something to be bought and sold to the highest bidder.  When you grow tired of playing Bitcoins I am sure you will sell off financial and identity information to anyone who will throw a few dollars your way.

MtGox did not sell users identities, and acted in the best interest of its users to ensure CoinLab had no access to said data.

None of users private information will be shared with CoinLab until the user accepts CoinLab's ToS on the site. If you choose to never accept CoinLab's ToS, then your data will never be shared with CoinLab.
I assume this means that you'll log in and be presented with a question and an Accept / Do Not Accept choice.

I thought that would happen today, but...
58  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where have all the mainpulators gone? on: March 22, 2013, 04:56:59 AM
Well, I would guess our "benevolent manipulator" is having a hard time putting out the fire all by his lonesome self.

This is the real thing: explosive growth.

(To be honest, I called the top at $65 and look what that got me.  Roll Eyes )
59  Economy / Speculation / Re: $70 today? on: March 21, 2013, 11:41:28 AM
Currently BTC8927 ask at $68.90583
BTC8963 to get to $68.999
BTC9367 to get to $69.000

I think someone in the US is fast asleep and will wake up and panic cancel their sell order.
