41  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL board project COINTAMINATION - EU+USA facility - need samples for one board on: August 30, 2013, 12:48:27 AM
Just wanted to give update on Cointamination progress.

Sorry for any confusion on time frames, we placed our order with the PCB fab at a busy time for them so our design was in queue for a short time but things are moving forward and I have an estimated ship date from the fab of September 5th.

When the boards arrive I will post pics for all to see and I am sending 5 of them to the Assembly facility to have 5 production test boards made to be sure the design works as we expect it does. They have already been paid and also have sent our schematic package to them to have them ready ahead of time. Everything has been checked and double checked, additional components are being purchased directly by them - they are ready to rock and roll as soon as I send them the boards and the chips.

Build time from Assembler is 5 days and I will have the completed boards the next day.

I do have an estimated price of what it will cost the end consumer to buy the boards and have them mounted. Form has written instructions for the pick and place machine to build 2, 4, 8, 12 and 16 chip versions of this board, so all will be available however the price will not be much different if any.

Also we will offer DIY kits, as well as chip mounting services at our facility.

We will release an official price after I get a chance to talk to form and lucko about it. We usually meet once a day but thats about it because of time zone difference.

Web site still has to be completed in order to take orders, this will be completed by the time we have tested the boards. Payments for North American orders will be in Bitcoin only. Form and Lucko may accept other payment methods however that is up to them, and has yet to be determined.

I will post more info as soon as its available.

42  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [BFL-Chip Groupbuy] $27,5/chip 50% - BTC,PayPal,SEPA - 420 sold, 0/100 batch #4 on: August 23, 2013, 02:33:03 AM
So, Lucko, what's the word on the new set of boards?

the PCBs are just starting fab as soon as fab is done they will go to our US assembly house. We are making (5) 16 chip "production prototypes" to start (using sample) chips, just to test the production design. If all is good and well with them we will make a much bigger order of PCB's and will also have not only have an exact price per board for complete boards but also for partially assembled boards with chip mounting services.

I have been traveling a lot lately but as soon as we have production level testing and the exact prices nailed down you will be able to purchase from cointamination.com

I will be handling reselling for north America and Lucko will be handling reselling for the rest of the world.

for further inquiry

email me @ jj@cointamination.com
or lucko@cointamination.com

Realistically expect this all to be figured out by the beginning of September.

43  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Adding an 4th module in a 3 module avalon on: August 18, 2013, 04:31:10 PM
Hi,

I have 3 avalon batch 2 with 3 modules each.

Today I managed to buy 3 extra working modules from a broken avalon (modules are working fine).
The plan was to put in every of my 3 avalons an extra module.

I placed a corsair 1000 watt in it and connected all the cables. (power and ide cable)

The avalon boots and works fine however it refuses to hash with the 4th module.

I also tried the other modules and even put a module from my other working avalon in the empty slot.
When I connect the 3th module to the empty 4th slot is does not work either (only 2 units are hashing)

The avalon refuses to work with a module connected to the empty slot.

Can anybody help me?
Do I have to move some jumper/ change a setting?

If you help me to get the 4th module working you get 2 bitcoin as a reward.

The "IDE" cable as you say where did you get it? Did it come from a broken avalon or did you put a regular IDE cable in it.

Although they look like IDE cables they are NOT IDE cables. You need to get the ribbon cable from the broken avalon and use that,
I would update the firmware to 0627 ( ive had weird problems with 0723) and yes in cgminer configuration set miners to 32

If that does not work I would reseat all the ribbon cables and power cables on both sides and try again. Because if none of the above works it could simply be a case of a lose cablepair

feel free to PM me if you need anymore help I have upgraded several 3 units to 4 unit avalons myself.

Let me know if I was able to help

44  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: August 17, 2013, 05:46:55 PM
I received my Avalon batch 3 w/ 3 blades last week, and here's some of the problems I encountered.

The first set of problems seems to be with power supplies.

The first I tried was an OCZ 600W, obviously underpowered, and mining would stop as soon as I started.

So I bought a second one, a Seasonic Platinum 1000W.
This can power on, but it proved to eventually intermittently die every other time.
When it dies, the WRT703 is still alive, but all the fans would suddenly stop and it would no longer mine.  It always needs a hard power off/power on.
Finally I got it running for a day, but in the middle it died again, and after that it never did manage to power on the blades again, only the WRT 703.
At this point I changed everything, upgraded the firmware, plugged each blade one by one, nothing seems to work.
When I turn on the power it keeps powering the WRT 703 but the fans go on high, and then one second later immediately shuts off - and mining will never be successful.

I changed this to a corsair 800 GS and now it is mining for a week continuously, I even overclocked to 350Mhz.

However, now I have another problem, my miner never goes above the advertised 66Gh/s spec.
Even at 350Mhz it maxes out at 58Gh.

I looked in this forum and saw this is how to find out if my avalon blades are working:

It seems I received a unit missing 28% of my hash power Sad
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do with this?

In summary, here's a list of things I had problems with
- Didn't know how to check to see if blades mine - look at the cgminer stats using "cgminer-api stats" and looking at the [AVA0] section
- power supply connection -
I suspect the power supply may have shut down by itself if it detects some sort of loop, maybe, is it possible that the high grade PSU shuts itself down when detecting a defective board that drew imbalanced voltages between the avalon blades?   When I changed to a Corsair 800GS, it is a much lower grade power supply than my Seasonic platinum 1000w, and the lower grade power supply works - maybe it doesn't do these checks and powers away anyway, enabling my avalon to mine until now?

Any comments appreciated,

Thanks!

I have several Avalons with 4 Blades running Seasonic 1000watt platinum PSU's they are the best and most efficient PSU I have ever used. Especially if you switch it to hybrid mode so it only spins the cooling fan when it needs it.

Its rated 80+ Platinum for Efficiency rating and I believe it deserves it.

This is my favorite PSU and they work well with Avalon

This is either a case of user error (no offense) or a Bad PSU

45  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [BFL-Chip Groupbuy] $27,5/chip 50% - BTC,PayPal,SEPA - 420 sold, 0/100 batch #4 on: August 17, 2013, 05:09:12 AM
Hello,

Let me introduce myself, my name is Rob, and I am handling the PCB fab and professional assembly process of this ground breaking project.
The reason you haven't heard from me up to this point is because I have been working with form and lucko behind the scenes. However I am posting now because I am asking for some chip contributors for the first production level Contamination board.

The first boards are going into Fab immediately. Which will take approximately 2 weeks. We will then send one board to the assembly house to have the chips and other components assembled on this new production level board. If the board works (and we expect it will.) this will be the very first professionally (machine assembled) Contamination board.

Personally I am paying for this entire process and also donating 6 sample chips to this first board which should hopefully bridge this project from the prototype to production stage.

It would be terrific if we could have 10 more sample chips donated so we can manufacture and test a full 16 chip board.

In exchange for every 2 chips donated you will receive a free PCB (assembly costs still apply)

Please contact me directly at robert.dobbs.III@gmail.com if you have some sample chips to donate to this first production board.

Lucko is still your main contact for this project. I am just handling the manufacturing phase and may be selling some boards to customers in the USA only, as Lucko and Form are overseas.

thank you for your time and I will post in this thread when all 10 donation chips have been received.

46  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.S. Judge determines bitcoin is a currency on: August 08, 2013, 04:23:39 PM
2. Bitcoin being defined as "currency" by a Federal Judge is actually bad as it opens Bitcoin up to a whole host of US laws designed to prevent people from creating their own currency. Can you say "Liberty Dollar".

This!

My thought exactly. If Bitcoin is considered money then that will automatically ruin its "decentralized" nature.

That is absolutely untrue and impossible. Bitcoin works on a p2p network there is no possible way to decentralize it. Why do you think torrents still exist?

If you exchange bitcoins for fiat currencies it is income regardless, and you will have to pay taxes on it with or without these type of rulings.

Law360, Los Angeles (August 06, 2013, 9:03 PM ET) -- Internet-traded bitcoins are a form of currency subject to federal securities laws, a Texas federal judge ruled Tuesday, refusing to dismiss the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's claims accusing the founder of Bitcoin Savings & Trust of running a Ponzi scheme.

Bitcoin is a form of currency because it can be used to purchase goods or services and exchanged for more traditional forms of money, U.S. Magistrate Judge Amos L. Mazzant wrote in a decision Tuesday.

Looks like pirateat40's case is being tried in Texas.

If his best defense is that "Bitcoin is not real money" he needs to hire a new lawyer
48  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: August 07, 2013, 03:19:32 PM
is it ok to flip the fans at the front so that it exhausts air out instead of blowing air in and then adding intake fans at the back of the casing?

since the psu at the back of the casing is facing down and sucks air from within the case.

are there enough molex cables left in the miner to power these fans?  (getting my avalon soon)

The avalon people have said no.  They incorporate the air pressure from inside the case to keep the airflow high through the power supply.
I would be concerned that temp1, temp2, and temp3 would also not have the expected pattern to present to the control software.

is it possible then to flip the PSU upside down and cut a hole at the top for the psu to intake air?

Simply put the psu outside

the batch 1 avalons that I have - the ones I have upgraded to 4 modules myself and upgraded the PSU's I have always just ran the cables out the back and kept the PSU outside the case. Its practical, allows for more psu choices and also improves airflow.

Also I am curious if anyone has had any luck overclocking batch 1 avalons?

49  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BFL (BF Labs Inc; Butterfly Labs) officially refusing to refund their customers. on: July 12, 2013, 05:51:25 PM
I placed my order with BFL over a year ago, at this point it just makes me laugh when I think about it, I guess I expect that some day it will show up but we are going on 13 months now...  we are past the point of ridiculous.

In my opinion, if you place an order with BFL now, your hardware will be useless by the time you get it (due to extremely high difficulty). There really is no point.

Anyone have any idea of a way to extend the fpga controller inside of an Avalon to accommodate additional modules?

Exactly what kind of cables are those anyways?? They look like IDE cables but they are not.

thanks in advance for any advice / answers

51  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: June 28, 2013, 07:10:24 PM
Mostly because I have found the v1 of the machines which is most of what my farm consists of to be a huge pain in the ass to take apart and work on and I would rather just leave them mining then try to fix the modules my self which may or may not work, some capacitors could be damaged - who knows and dont forget the whole time the machine in question would be down and that difficulty is just rising and rising like crazy.

Plus I have 26 machines running right now and with the air conditioning have basically maxed out my electrical capacity.

So at this point if there is a market for it I would rather just sell the broken modules for parts/repair and continue on with the 26 running units undisturbed.
52  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: June 28, 2013, 06:49:18 PM
this is an awesome service to offer but thankfully Avalon is putting much more effort in packaging these things which is greatly reducing the number of units that arrive with broken components.

Also just want to congratulate Avalon on the new black design. Really like it - stepped it up a big notch.

With my broken units I just used the modules that survived to upgrade other units to four module units. Which has worked quite well.

I do have one unit that I run through a linux box because the tplink was destroyed, and I did not feel like tearing apart any of solid units and it works fairly well with bfgminer. Although it is not the most stable. Seems like it needs a reset once a day, not sure if its bfgminer or my fpga controller is slightly damaged.

Also want to throw it out there I have I think 4 broken modules, that were damaged during shipping. Only thing I can really tell is some capacitors snapped off - I do not notice any other damage but I am interested in selling them as is, if anyone wants them - please PM me an offer.

thanks for your time and keep up the good work team Avalon the new black units are really killer Smiley

Hello

PLEASE , I am Not trying to be rude, but I NEED the REST of my EARLY BATCH #1 ORDER #200000393

It has been a very long time since I have bit o a shipment, I dont want to make problems on the forum.

I was one of the first people invest in your terrific products - I REALLY NEED the rest of my order

CAN YOU PLEASE SEND THE REMAINING UNITS ASAP

or AT LEAST PROVIDE SOME SORT OF EXPLANATION as to How Much Longer?Huh and WHY ITS TAKING SO LONG???

please I am trying to be patient, I Respect you guys a great deal, but  the difficulty is Rising quickly and I NEED the REST of my Order

Please RESPOND! I Beg you!!!
55  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: April 19, 2013, 08:06:58 AM
yeah I could, I am just weary of messing with units that are currently incredibly stable.

I suppose I could use bigger screws for the stripped holes.

not sure how else I could attach the modules unless I just lay them on their side which I already have a couple of those from previous shipments that had 1 or 2 modules which snapped off.

i spent a little over a thousand a piece on these units I feel bad for the people who ordered in batch 3 - paid nearly 6 grand per unit
and they are going to receive messed up units unless they make some changes in the way they ship them.

and yes I have 18 working units right now - two of them I have added an additional module to, but you basically need a broken unit and a high end PSU just to be able to make these 4 module units.

I am told these cables are not just simply IDE cables and where the hell do you get the power cords from?

if you dont have broken units to source from, im not sure how you will make 4 module units
which by the way must have intense cooling or they shut theselves down.

-JJ

btw: fpga miner and john PM me your BTC address - I'll make sure to send you each a coin tomorrow

I think its important to keep this tech support thread going and keep experts around to answer questions and participate
Avalon has stated since the begining that they are not interested in providing tech support.
56  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: April 19, 2013, 04:12:18 AM
I mean come on, your using aluminum - an extremely soft metal, and your also using incredibly small screws, like 4 or 5 on each module. its bad news, a couple tumbles and your machine is trashed.

they really need to put some sort of foam bricks that can later be removed between the modules, so it wont be so easy for them to strip the tiny screws break off and smash all the internal components.

Don't get me wrong I love them and I am thank full for the ones I have but I really hate to pay for broken units.
57  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who else from Avalon batch 1 hasn't received a unit or shipping information? on: April 19, 2013, 04:10:37 AM
i have an early batch 1 order partially delivered. #393

Still waiting for 10 units - btw 2 of the units that did arrive came completely destroyed to the point that they cannot be used.

check out the tech support thread for info on that.
58  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: April 19, 2013, 03:59:20 AM
well I have determined the FPGA controllers were broken as well during shipping on both these machines.

*sigh*

so I am withdrawing the bounty but I will give the two gentleman and luke-jr who also helped me determine this 1 bitcoin each sometime tomorrow when my funds come into Gox.

Man they really need to do a better job of shipping these, If I had a working chasis with working fpga controllers and routers, I could build 2 whole 4 module machines, this... really... sucks...

thanks anyways guys please send me your BTC address and Ill make sure you each get a satoshi in the morn

peace -JJ
