They haven't come back to me yet, so not sure if they still plan to Skype me in. Not sure. We'll see. > Can you imagine if musicians actually started getting paid for sharing music with the world? It would completely change the world for the better. That's the plan! > On to other things.. I've noticed that the 0x0a pool has been going offline periodically. The hashrate has been high - over 20 MH/s on that pool. I'll contact the pool operator and ask to see if they know what's happening. Hashrate is lower again. As an aside. While we keep making music and incubate The Cypherfunks, I still reckon we should still move to a coloured coin (preferably Counterparty/Dogeparty). Whomever is keeping the chain alive. Thank you! Or at least. If the chain dies, or there is some attack. .

Hey guys. Just an update. Been jamming/making music still with Soundposition. Collaborating as well with new artists! I wrote a post this past week on content-producing DAO's. http://simondlr.com/post/97249557773/towards-content-producing-decentralized-autonomous. It captured a lot of what we were discussing and think we are definitely getting closer. I might (small chance) get some more people working on this problem. If so, the Cypherfunks will most likely be one of the first use-cases for it! I've been busy sorting out what's next and thus my free time has diminished quite extensively. Just want to say: you guys have all been good friends I've come to know through the community. I appreciate it all. Still intend to continue driving Cypherfunks, what it stands and what it attempts to do. Keep pushing boundaries!

I wish, sadly DFW is a bit too far away from NYC for me to make it :/ Ah damn. Well it seems like they are planning to Skype me in. So let's see how that goes! #winning

@groggin: the cool thing about counter/dogeparty is that a web-wallet is built into the browser (think blockchain.info style). @jwinterm: you provide relevant. Each approach has its drawbacks & advantages. Like, one thing I realised the other day. PoS coins can't really do SPV (lite) clients. The only way for them to do lite clients is to trust centralised repos sending them the details. That's not ideal. I'll think some more.

So. What do you guys think about burning it to a coloured coin instead [on counterparty/dogeparty]? Any thoughts? I could rewrite the v2 doc and explain what benefits a coloured coin has? So we can discuss it? I see hashrate + buy support have increased lately, which is great! [at this rate we can maybe even stick to what we have. ]

A PoS coin will have much better economics hmm. why? i was all over PoS coins when i first started mining, since at the time my only gpu had a max i/0 of 88 khps. Grain, Tesla, Mint, Diamond, ... Balckcoin did for me the best, with it's 1% stake as a miner i have to say maintaining many PoS coins is a pain in the ass, if you want the max you need compounding, means running the wallets regularly, they consume resources that add up! i find i'm maxed out w/4-6 wallets running at any given time on a p00tr w/3 cores @2.8 ghz and 8 gB RAM. (well, it's doing other things too) though it's fun watching your balances grow, are you really gaining anything? since everyone else holding the coin has the same benefit, increasing the coin supply, diminishing it's value. also interesting, if we abandon FUNK-I, mightn't it rise again on it's own? now, how could a pair of coins work together ... FUNK-I seems so perfect for micro-pays [edit] how about this: new wallet has de-centralised chat, exchange, e-mail, (tor?) and a one click invite a friend? Good points Groggin. Which is why I've been thinking perhaps as another option, porting FUNK over to a colored coin [Counterparty or Dogeparty asset]. It means, there is no requirement for maintenance. The current stakeholders get their fair share. Counterparty has a built-in decentralized exchange. You can then also run Bitcoin/XFK alongside each other [one address can take both payments]. You can also issue dividends to holders of XFK. A friend told me recently he wants to donate to The Cypherfunks, but finds it laborious to each time go and find tipping addresses. Instead, you simply issue a 1btc dividend each week (as an example), which will automatically "tip" all holders of XFK. It also means we (more specifically me), don't have to spend so much time on maintaining and keeping the wallet/coin code up to date. Dev time can be spent building actual services [like a Cypherfunk player with tipping addresses, etc]

Hi Simon, thanks for the tweet! I think Soundcloud must have noticed us, or maybe musicians became inspired by what we were doing, and decided to put the pressure on Soundcloud. At least that's what it looks like.
Where's n00bnoxious? What's he up to??
Let's talk about what concern you have that the PoS coin will go the way of the PoW coin?
n00bnoxious is around here somewhere. A PoS coin will have much better economics, but will it be enough for people to buy, hold & use? I don't know. But I'm more than willing to try.

Sweet! Hey Vaudvaud (& others). Past few weeks have been quite all over the show and haven't found time to work on the PoS coin. I'm also a tad scared that even we do PoS it will go the same route. But hey, let's try.

Hey MadCow. Nice to see you pop in again. Yes. All you said is true. That will hopefully come in v3 (once we solve the rest of the problems). If that means that v2 might fail, then that's an experiment I'm willing to try. Sorry, been really busy guys! But I have been hacking on the new version!

This baby is growing teeth. What I imagine is a program that looks like your standard QT wallet (or not, people like different). It let's you do all the things a wallet does. It also has a music player that ONLY plays songs uploaded to Cypherfunks. The music would play, and the software would show the Artist/Song info. There would be a nice big 3D 'TIP' button (j/k) that would allow the listener to enter the amount of the tip and click send. Boom.. coins transferred to artist. So from an artists end: they would upload a digitally watermarked song to the P2P Cypherfunks network. Tag it with Artist and Song info, including their XFK wallet address. From the listeners end they would hear the song, see the artist/song info and be able to tip them right there from the software with their XFK. 100% (or quite near that ) goes to the artist. Maybe a tiny, percentage for network costs or something. I think the basic form of having a song in the wallet with an easy tip option should be do-able down the line. But yes. Your ideas are definitely on the right track!

I've been thinking about how it would be nice if we didn't need Soundcloud. Ideally, I imagine a decentralized replacement for it running on a blockchain. You can build on top of blockchains, so why not make a decentralized Soundcloud-like service with all the features we want?
That's the holy grail. I think that's what we plan to work towards eventually. But it's no easy feat. Should be interesting to see going ahead how tools like Maidsade, Storj and Ethereum could in maintaining such a network!

Looks like n00bsys0p's P2P pool went down, so the only one up and working right now is 0x0a's... I'll ping n00bnoxious. Cool looks like it's back up as of a bit ago, along with the blockchain explorer... Awesome. Thanks. @soundposition: winning! btw. I see Cypherfunks represented in the Myriad Podcast. Nice. Thanks neuro! (At the end: https://soundcloud.com/myriadcoin/myriad-cast)

It's my birthday today so what a nice present! It's funny how everything just kind of becomes clear and we just blaze through. I had a feeling you were going to find a day this week to be a code ninja. In the meantime some major music releases are planned, so these are very exciting times! Hah. Awesome. Happy birthday man! I'm continuing today with some coding (I'm enjoying it too much).

I prefer a collective where the success of the collective benefits everyone belonging to it. Otherwise, people start competing with each other over whose music or ideas are worth supporting, instead of people just supporting people in general. It seems like this is important, because people are still stuck in the old way of thinking. We have a chance to do things completely differently, and in a way that really helps a lot of people.
Totally! Of course somebody could just setup a storefront using Moolah and sell works and then accept any number of coins automatically.. but I'd like to see the whole built in tipping, feedback, etc and interactive community side built in.
Or maybe I'm just thinking too much.
Nope. Never something as thinking too much. All awesome ideas. I think your proposal comes close to what we spoke about. Baking in the coin part to be directly tied to the music part (not simple a coin representing the system). But as you said. This requires a lot more effort. There might actually be ways to use Ethereum to make this easier (you can store additional meta-info much easier). I think Rob Myers might have some ideas. He's been tying art to ethereum contracts. At the moment, I just want to get XFK done and out there, so we at least have a "normal" working coin going again. Then we can continue refining the ideas! @mckmuze: Thanks for all the awesome ideas. Totally. Almost all your stuff is spot on. I'll need all the help I can get! So, an update on the dev of XFK. This week turned out to be surprisingly busy, but I'm doing dev work today. n00bnoxious pretty much finished work on the new CPU algo we are going to use! So excited. High five to him!

How do we sign the transaction itself with one of our inputs?
EDIT: Nevermind. I felt like a n00b asking that. I downloaded the VIA wallet and I see the option to type a message into the field, and that will have the message attached to the transaction. That's apparently one of those newfangled crypto-tools. That is what you are talking about right?
Yep. It's all QT wallets. I'll make pics/screenshots once the time comes!
|
|
|
Yes, it's in place now, so you can probably go and investigate the code. But yes, I think decay could be enough, but with the progress that crypto-economics are making (look at VIA's impressive early success), I think it'd be a nice boost to get this spot on first time. Good enough is never enough is one of my many mottos ;-)
I shall give it a read tomorrow and get back to you!
I'll have a look at it! Would be an interesting addition. If anyone wants to help dissect, please do. @sysOS. The old coins will be burned to the new chain. So yes, if you have old FUNK, you will get XFK. More details will be released around the time of launch.
