@groggin:

the cool thing about counter/dogeparty is that a web-wallet is built into the browser (think blockchain.info style).

@jwinterm:

you provide relevant. Each approach has its drawbacks & advantages. Like, one thing I realised the other day. PoS coins can't really do SPV (lite) clients. The only way for them to do lite clients is to trust centralised repos sending them the details. That's not ideal. I'll think some more. Smiley

Hey guys. Just an update. Been jamming/making music still with Soundposition. Collaborating as well with new artists!

I wrote a post this past week on content-producing DAO's. http://simondlr.com/post/97249557773/towards-content-producing-decentralized-autonomous. It captured a lot of what we were discussing and think we are definitely getting closer. I might (small chance) get some more people working on this problem. If so, the Cypherfunks will most likely be one of the first use-cases for it!

I've been busy sorting out what's next and thus my free time has diminished quite extensively. Just want to say: you guys have all been good friends I've come to know through the community. I appreciate it all. Still intend to continue driving Cypherfunks, what it stands and what it attempts to do.

Keep pushing boundaries! Smiley

I seriously considered going.  It just wasn't really feasible. I'm very glad you are going to Skype in, I think they should have you on there representing us anyway, as you are one of the main innovators.

Just the fact that a major industry player like PhilQ is our ally is a really positive sign. From what I read in the articles linked at the event invitation.. (http://musicindustryrx.com/music-industry-18-to-100-billion-dollars-by-2020/) There is a major concerted effort to shake the music industry up from the top to get musicians paid, and if that doesn't work, new businesses will simply replace the old ones to make sure they do.

Can you imagine if musicians actually started getting paid for sharing music with the world? It would completely change the world for the better. We would have beauty again. Listen to what Vangelis said to an interviewer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei774HSbzAg

It's interesting food for thought as we go into this new music industry paradigm.

On to other things.. I've noticed that the 0x0a pool has been going offline periodically. The hashrate has been high - over 20 MH/s on that pool. I'll contact the pool operator and ask to see if they know what's happening.

I wrote a post this past week on content-producing DAO's. http://simondlr.com/post/97249557773/towards-content-producing-decentralized-autonomous.

Really interesting thoughts Simon. It does sound like Cypherfunks is poised to become one of the first music discovery DAO's. I can't say I totally understand what you have in mind after reading that post. My feeling is that every musician that shares content should get paid every time they get played. I can't say I totally understand the Discovery Moment Monetization model described in the previous article either. I'll have to do some more reading up this week on these topics. I'll get back with you.

That's the plan!

Hashrate is lower again.

As an aside. While we keep making music and incubate The Cypherfunks, I still reckon we should still move to a coloured coin (preferably Counterparty/Dogeparty). Whomever is keeping the chain alive. Thank you! Smiley

Or at least. If the chain dies, or there is some attack. Wink.

Can you contact them again? You should write them back and try to sit on their heads. We really should be represented at that event, it's pretty huge what's happening there.

> Hashrate is lower again.

I was getting about 1800 FUNK per block reward on 0x0a, and I switched to the n00bsysop's pool and am now getting about 100,000 FUNK per block reward. Not sure what happened there, I contacted n00bsysop and he didn't perceive any problem.

> As an aside. While we keep making music and incubate The Cypherfunks, I still reckon we should still move to a coloured coin (preferably Counterparty/Dogeparty). Whomever is keeping the chain alive. Thank you! Smiley

You bet! I'm pretty sure I'm the only one mining FUNK at this point. Someone else was mining too for a while, but I think that stopped. So awesome to feel like the first person mining BTC right now.

I plan on releasing more music this week. I'm a little bit behind on my projects and have music projects coming out of my ears.

I met a local musician yesterday and networked with him on Soundcloud, so that was good.

I have a lot of reading and thinking to do too..

Can someone please explain the benefits of moving to a Colored "Party" coin? Thanks!

0btc (the 0x0a pool operator) explained to me that someone parked 25 MH/s which explains why my payouts were so low. However there is an apparent discrepancy between n00bsysop's pool and 0btc's pool. They are going to look into it time permitting.

I'll try and write up about it this weekend! The biggest benefit I see is: there's no sense of urgency. Smiley

But I'll write up all the positives & negatives.

What is everyones opinion of viacoin and clearwallet.co. They just brought on Peter Todd and have some talent behind the project. I tried it out and like it a lot. its fast. Dogeparty is fast and i think merge mining will make it very secure. thought I see via doing well too. I personally am going to do a clear wallet token as an experiment.

I think its going to be better in the long run to eliminate any maintenance and focus on what matters in our lives. Use the tools the community has created and get creating for the community.

Clearwallet = Dogeparty = Counterparty but with different base coins.

Only reason why Counterparty has my vote is that it's less effort for people to get involved, and it means a "tie" with Bitcoin. In other words, same addresses work with Bitcoin than with any of the meta-tokens.

If I want to use Dogeparty, I'll have to keep using Dogecoin. If I want to use ClearWallet, I'll have to keep using Viacoin. The most ubiquitous coin is Bitcoin, which makes it the easiest. Dogeparty is probably the cheapest to transfer. I know the Dogeparty dev team well, and probably going to work with them on other projects (full-time work).

At the end of the day, to my mind Bitcoin makes the most sense. Less effort if people want to get in, and less effort if people want to get to fiat. Smiley

Any other opinions on the coloured coin? @jwinterm? @groggin? @soundposition? @n00b? @neuro? (if you guys are still around).

I hugely agree with the idea of going with some kind of token over a full blown coin. The amount of work just managing the most basic features of a cryptocoin is insane, and the time I feel is better spent developing the social features than constantly battling all the economic issues brought by PoW and PoS cryptos.

I'd urge going with Dogeparty or ClearingHouse as their block times are so significantly different to Bitcoin. I'm not certain of my reasoning, so it definitely warrants discussion, but I think a fast, sleek transactional system based around an issued token is a much much better idea to consider, and will free up developer time to work on the most important side of things - the social stuff. Not least of all because devs won't constantly have to be firefighting crypto douchebags trying to instamine or otherwise ruin an amazing venture.

I think of the two (XCH/XDP), XDP makes more social sense.... 24s vs 60s block times will make no real difference in the big scheme of things, and the social ethos of FUNK has very much been in keeping with the Doge mentality.

Very much on board Simon, good thinking. The tokens can be incentivised in so many ways, too - people can sell them for Doge, other assets... They can buy them to activate in-app features, to tip musicians... Nothing apart from some of our algo work will go to waste, and honestly that stuff was needlessly complicated and only being put in place to avoid nefarious instaminers... On top of that, probably wouldn't even work... We know how a large amount of this scene behaves by now.

Such sound! Very music!

I'm not familiar with clearinghouse, nor have I ever used dogeparty or counterparty, but I have heard of them. So I guess based on n00b's logic I'd lean towards dogeparty. Also, as groggin points out, fees would be massively lower.

As soon as everyone has a regulatory framework in their respective regions getting in and out of fiat will be easy in any coin. Via is working toward this and I would assume the guys at dogeparty are as well. I wouldn't go with counterparty for many reasons. "One coin to rule them all" days are going to be over fast. especially as real business gets involved with all this. Going to bitcoin then to altcoin then to clearwallet or dogeparty will only be temporary. Full blown fiat to whatever coin exchanges are going to be here soon.
We arent going to get many people coming into this from fiat in the beginning anyway. I don't think short changing ourselves because bitcoin is the king should be the case. Quite frankly, I am growing a strong distaste for bitcoin and it will be increasingly important as we move forward to allow people to move fluidly from fiat to other alts without the entrapment of the bitcoin cartel.

Bitcoin was not distributed fairly, its slow, its being co-opted by a bunch of lousy profiteers as well as facilitates the concentration of wealth more than any currency in history. The world as a whole needs to move toward many other alts and usher in the birth of a decentralized asset market that is completely disconnected from bitcoin. The sooner the better. The cypherfunks needs to help move us toward this future.

Dogeparty or clear wallet, but please dont go with counter party. I just think clearwallet and viacoin are on the right path for acceptance and fluid conversion. I do like dogeparty a lot too. im a bit torn really.

@mckmuze: Thanks for the comments. I don't have such a distaste for Bitcoin. It's ubiquity is its strong suite and will be for some time to come. However, I do agree on the part that I know Counterparty-type protocols aren't something that the Bitcoin community really like: rather wanting to move towards a clear, clean blockchain only for fast, value transfer. Streamlining it essentially.

So at this moment, I'm more partial to Dogeparty, for the sake that Dogecoin does have more ubiquity (pretty much 2nd fiddle to Litecoin/Bitcoin in terms of adoption).
