I think the days of home mining and small mining pools are coming to an end. If you cannot add hashing power to match difficulty you are just spinning your wheels. The mining manufacturers need to produce a 20THs miner at 1500w that is affordable for us to buy. This latest round from Ant and Canaan is just a money grab taking advantage of people looking for an answer. If things keep going at the rate they are now my 55THs operation will not be profitable after June 2018. If BTC goes back to $20K it will give me a few more months. If China bans mining the overpriced S9 will be worthless on the resale market. We went from 72 blocks in June to 8 in January you do the math.

Everyone with free electricity mine on! I am searching for answers if anyone has a plan.

I have been thinking about this same thing for the last couple of months as well. I'm in an even worse place that you with my 27TH hashpower and really not able to add more without a decent investment. With the difficulty increasing as fast as it is and the BTC value leveling off a bit I'll be done mining in the next few months. The question I'm wrestling with now is whether to stop now and sell my miners at a good price on eBay or wait until later this spring to do it and take a chance that I can't get as much for the miners. Either way, I'm a bit sad about it since I've only been mining for about a year and have enjoyed it a lot. I just don't see this being profitable for a small time miner for much longer. I'm wonder what others in our situation are thinking.

I'm thinking hit me up when you want to dump those miners

Phew, ok thanks guys Smiley In other news, I will need to shut down miners for a week starting Saturday night Sad Going away on holidays and can't really leave them running without keeping an eye on them. As I understand it, my ramp will at least keep for a few days? Is it the same time to ramp down? So if I rejoin when I get back in a week I will need to contribute for another 5-7 days to ramp back up to full?

All depends on the hashrate of the pool. It the hashrate was lower on your ramp up than it is on the ramp down, you will ramp down quicker. But yes, you will need to ramp back up. I have no problems leaving mine running with remote access so maybe look into how you can do that and leave your rigs up and hashing.

The Bitminter hashrate is the Bitcoin price.

Better get some more miners on here. Tongue

I wish the bitcoin price was equal to our hashrate still Sad

No, I'm from Norway. By the way, when people say they're not CIA, they're usually CIA. Smiley

So I have been waiting for comments on the BTC price today - but it is quiet!  Sure is amazing how it bounces around.  Anyway, looks like another sale to increase my portfolio.

Bitcoin be like...

We just gotta figure out how low and wait for that big ass jump at the end baby!

Just noticed that Canaan distributor minerwarez just put the new avalon 821 for sale on their site. MOQ is 10 units though @ $3500 ea.

And Canaan is putting a ton of them up right now for final testing before being shipped out on Friday.

Very cool!

This is my first super-300% block and I want to tell ya'll that I think that's pretty cool!

Soldiers of fortune, with comradery forged in the fire of high percentage blocks.

no more gifs??? Sad

I thought the same thing a while back. On the last page of posts 2 gifs were posted so I think it's a bitcointalk issue possibly but not all gifs are problematic

Well that was expensive.. and no block. Sad

We love you for trying!
It didn't go unnoticed or unappreciated. I hope we pop several blocks before that falls off and you recover the cost! Thanks for doing that for all of us!

Question

Last week we were approaching 1700 or maybe 1900 users it seems.   How can we lose so many "users" so quickly.  It seems like it was down to 1200, a drop of 500? now climbing back up again.
Thoughts on this?

Some of it is no doubt users that initially don't understand the ramp/5nd/payout system here at first and miss the daily payouts. Others may have been users that try out different pools. There really is no telling. For all we know some users were using multiple BTC addresses for workers and then created a user account instead. Who knows, maybe Kano. What I know is no matter what, we are growing in hashrate, and we are going to MINE ON!

I feel so small looking at those THPs now eheh. Thanks guys for you help, let's hope to hit a block soon!

I agree. A 16 hour shift just happened and my "work" just got cut into 1/3. Oh well. Let's murder this block!

That moment when your entire neighborhood loses power and you immediately think your miners are to blame. Either way the worst news is the zero shifts being recorded as I wait for the power company to figure it out. Let's all take a moment and pray for the bigolin house to have power restored quickly, and this block to crack even quicker!

I can fully relate. Never good to have idle miners!

When things like this happen to me, I'm thankful that this pool has 5Nd.  I normally can't even tell that I had an outage on the next payout because of it. Cheesy

The bigolin house liveth. We currently have power for the moment and I found that there were over 16k outages in our area, so apparently something much larger than 4 s9's was at fault. Thank goodness!

Mine On?

Go look for a smoking transformer out back. Smiley

What are you guys doing. Nothing is ever the pools fault. Its all luck. Kano has and continues to give 110 percent to this community. The difficulty is high and thats why Bitmain has branched out into newer algo type miners.

They also just announced the T9+, which should really be the T9- based on the hashrate specs. They appear to be going backwards. This T9+ unit is 10.5 Th/s. No thanks.

I am in the process of trying to get colleagues of mine and communities I know to join the pool and help top us off this block.   If you have any friends or know of any avenues to spread the word please do so!

Thanks

Well, now we have some POWER. almost 20,000 Thps...NICE!!

I would say so...people getting shit DONE!

FeFox is KILLING it! I didn't know you had that kinda pull Fe! Keep it here...it's welcome.  Grin

I left Slush for a number of reasons but here's one of the biggest...

When the pool was 1.52 Eh/s I was getting an average reward of 0.00050955 BTC for 40.5 Th/s.
When the pool was 1.82 Eh/s I was getting an average reward of 0.00036331 BTC for 40.5 Th/s.

The Slush pool is now over 2+ Eh/s so I can't even imagine how much smaller my payouts would be at this point. With my very limited actual results so far on Kano I am seeing an average of 0.02263097 BTC per block found. This is why I jumped to Kano although I do have some concerns if the pool shrinks. If it grows then of course rewards will as well but hopefully that helps us find more blocks as well. I would not change the ramp because it rewards the loyal and not the pool jumpers.

You guys all need to take a sober look at the blocks to blocks expected value on the Monthly stats page and stop drinking the kool-aid for a minute.   What I said about changing the ramp was a temporary promotional offer once you get the marketing ready to go after the bigger miner farms that aren't getting paid extra to be on the bigger pools

Maybe this place just can't be saved

HOLY SHIT!

This whole time I've been mining at a pool that needed saving?
FML.

If only the pool operator were cool enough to do something to entice new people, or even reward the loyal ones that have been here for a minute like offering no fee mining for a certain period of time, maybe a "Promotional" period of time. Is it too late for us to get a new pool operator that actually cares about us and is forward thinking like this guy?
