401  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How often do you check the price of Bitcoin? on: May 14, 2013, 01:03:29 AM
I haven't tried it yet, but here's a site that will send you SMS messages to alert you about price changes to Bitcoin... So, in theory, you don't ever have to check the price, you can be told when it changes.

Hi Andreas,

There is so much info on the show, it's hard for me to mentally file everything from every show. You really do have a lot of coals in the Bitcoin fire! Pretty exciting stuff.

Anyway, please scratch my previous comment.

I'm one of the hosts on Let's talk bitcoin and I have mentioned the project on the show.

I will have lots of samples at the bitcoin 2013 conference, with a discount coupon on them. This is the kind of product that needs to be touched and seen in person, to appreciate the quality and beauty.

Sounds like a good idea to me! Have you tried it?

Nice find!

405  Other / Beginners & Help / How rich are the richest Bitcoiners? on: May 12, 2013, 08:52:29 PM
I have to assume there are tons of early adopters who mined and/or accumulated Bitcoins when it was much less valuable than it is today. Out of pure curiosity, does anyone knowledgeable have guesstimates:
1) How many Bitcoins do some of the richest Bitcoiners have?
2) How many Bitcoiners have accumulated more than $1 Million U.S. dollars?
If you have any other interesting knowledge along these lines, I find the topic fascinating...
406  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Shops or restaurants in San Francisco / LA / San Diego / Phoenix on: May 12, 2013, 04:05:49 PM
Wow, based on some quick research, I'm AMAZED that no bars or restaurants in Los Angeles accept Bitcoin! You'd think just for the P.R. value, a forward thinking establishment would like to be the first in my home city.
407  Other / Off-topic / Re: GET RID OF BORING QR CODES on: May 12, 2013, 02:56:27 AM
Nice post! As a graphic artist, now I want to try to make a really creative QR code for something...
408  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Send Bitcoin with Paper QR Code on: May 12, 2013, 02:55:25 AM
I too was wondering about how QR codes work with Bitcoin, and found your question. I wonder why no one has answered?

I'll say one thing as a buyer of Bitcoin on eBay, one guy I dealt with said he kept being ripped off (think stolen credit cards). Physical Bitcoins might be a bit better, since you'll at least have a physical address that received the item. But I'd be cautious, people are good at exploiting situations...

Very cool! You should send samples for review on The Daily Bitcoin podcast!
410  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Newbie Status Really That Hard? on: May 09, 2013, 01:45:21 AM
Hey, if this gate-keeper method is truly effective, than the quality of the posts should be at least marginally better outside the newb area than inside the newb area. But I haven't really noticed a difference. Hmmmmm...

Two more minutes, and I can post where I want! And by now I've discovered there's plenty to keep me busy just in the newbie zone!
411  Other / Archival / Re: I sold everything at $158/159 this morning on: May 08, 2013, 11:49:55 PM
What are the best websites to trade BTC?
Good question, but maybe there's a better thread?
412  Other / Archival / Re: I sold everything at $158/159 this morning on: May 08, 2013, 11:49:00 PM
Wow, fun going back in time and reading the comments as BTC rocketed and fell around April 9.
413  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Newbie Status Really That Hard? on: May 08, 2013, 10:49:04 PM
I hate that I have to browse around for 4 freaking hours. The minimum post isn't that bad. That's normal and easy to get.
I'm not sure if I have some setting wrong in one of my browsers or something, because just browsing around isn't doing it for me! I actually have to keep making comments... I wouldn't complain in a comment, except it's killing two birds with one stone.
414  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Newbie Status Really That Hard? on: May 08, 2013, 10:22:22 PM
Hmmm, lurking is giving me zero time! What, do I have to post every 5 minutes to keep my logged in clock moving? The closer I get to 4 hrs, the slower my clock moves... I feel like I'm being punked.
415  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Newbie Status Really That Hard? on: May 08, 2013, 06:54:49 PM
How long do threads like this normally float at the top of the forum?
Don't ask a newbie!

I don't get it, I've been clicking around on different threads while logged in, but it doesn't seem like my time logged in is advancing... Hence, another comment, to see if that helps.

I'm finding the commenting part of being a newbie is WAY easier than the time part...
416  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My bitcoins have been stolen on: May 08, 2013, 04:49:04 PM
I'm glad to hear that all is well and that you got your coins back.
Did I miss something? I didn't see that he got his coins back...
417  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC value at the end of May on: May 08, 2013, 04:42:09 PM
I think somewhere between 80 and 175. A lot seems to be depending on how well SR responds to the DDOS attacks they are facing.
Okay, for true newbies, who is SR?
418  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC value at the end of May on: May 08, 2013, 03:48:40 AM
Difficulty does not affect mining rate.
It doesn't? Then I guess I STILL don't get it...
419  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC value at the end of May on: May 08, 2013, 03:48:00 AM
Probably not to far off.  We really need a stable coin for it to have any real success.
1) While stability would make it easier, I bet there will be enough ways developed to utilize even a volatile Bitcoin.
2) My guess is you won't see a stable Bitcoin anytime soon.
Yeah? No?
420  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: hi guys =) i finally bought some bitcoins :) on: May 08, 2013, 01:57:20 AM
...
i bought 5btc @100usd per

do you think this was a bad or good idea ? i was originally going to buy 1000$ worth but for some reason i got scared lol and only bought half of that
...

I think that you started at a decent place, but that's coming from someone who also just started with Bitcoin a few weeks ago (for those who started when BTC was under $1, maybe buying at $100 seems crazy).

Why don't you set up some limit orders to buy more bitcoins if/when the price goes down again? Something like: buy .5 BTC if it gets around $90, and 1 BTC if it gets around $85, and 1.5 BTC if it gets to $80, 2 BTC if it gets to $75, etc... Of course, you should adjust the values based on your own expectations and goals.
