401  Other / Off-topic / Best game to take advantage of two 7950s? on: July 10, 2013, 04:17:31 PM
So if I were to shut down my GPU mining and put a couple 7950s in my main PC, what games would they benefit the most? I actually haven't been much of a gamer in the last 15 years, but I tried out the free games that came with my GPUs, and found I like the new Tomb Raider (I spent many hours playing the original Tomb Raider way back when). However, the game looks simply gorgeous just with a single 7770.

There must be some reason to have crossfire capability on them, however...
402  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB Sales [Temporarily Out of Stock] on: July 10, 2013, 03:53:44 PM
I've completed my first group purchase at cost to all buyers:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=251865

Friedcat, looking for a payment address so we can get our order in. I'm extending my at cost offer to all buyers for 30 more units, or until friedcat responds with payment information, whichever comes first.

So, you're taking orders for stuff you don't have yet and don't yet have a way to order... Sounds like the ASIC tradition!  Cheesy
403  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Block Erupter USB on: July 10, 2013, 03:38:30 PM
May I ask what is wrong with wanting to be the *official* US reseller?  This is how channel distribution works, the manufacturer relies on a channel (group of partners, generally arranged by geography) so that they only have to ship to a trusted partner and the trusted partner handles individual sales.

IMHO, this would be a problem is Kosmo went and purchased 1000 at the .89BTC price and then sold them for 1.5BTC.  But he's been reliable and honorable in all group orders (I research anyone I'm gonna send BTC to, he passed the test).

Reliable hardware service is something BTC needs.  Right now we're all throwing money at KNC shares and BitFury pre-orders not knowing if the hardware exists / will work.  A lot of people poured money into BFL and they're finally shipping.  Not even gonna touch on Avalon and whatever has happened around batch 2.  And AM seems to have realized that offering hardware at a decent price point for the current dif/share rates makes sense, especially when you can grab all the GPU crowd before they shut down and turn off their BTC operations, or worse move to pump-n-dump coin of the week which only makes a joke of the ideal behind BTC.

But if I know I can reliably order hardware from someone I've ordered from before, I'm happy.  No pissing BTC into the wind hoping magical hashing boxes show up.

BTW- Full disclosure, ordered 10 erupters from Kosmo that are arriving today, ordered 15 from Eleuthria @ BTCGuild (simply a question of who had or would have inventory).  I trust both of these folks with how much coin I've thrown their way, so I'd be happy to see either or both of them have some exclusive deal so we can order AM hardware in the US with greater reliability.  I've got nothing against the Chinese despite seeing that their country happens to have the manufacturing capacity to make or break BTC right now, but I'd much rather order from the US and have my item shipped from the US than deal with some of the customs issues I've read about recently.

What would be really great is if he just sent a few hundred thousand of them to Amazon to sell for him.  Grin

The USB ASICs are actually becoming more of a bargain now, at $65 USD...
405  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GPU mining is dead now. on: July 05, 2013, 06:09:39 PM
I have my miner running in an unfinished, naturally cool basement. But the recent price decline is becoming more problematic than the difficulty increases.
406  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GPU mining is dead now. on: July 02, 2013, 04:10:28 PM
$7.44 for bitcoin vs $12.98 for litcoin.

As for burning out graphic cards due to overwork in a hot climate, run your air intakes under the house or design a cooling system to make the max out of your building, or rent a basement space/storage in a highrise building and install an air transfer system and heat the lower levels or water for free... the landlords will love you.

That's a lot of work for $7.44 or $12.98 a day!  Cheesy
407  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB Sales [New Sales Policy with New Price] on: June 28, 2013, 06:43:58 PM

1) You never calculate the price of BTC when considering ROI.  What if BTC goes to $200, $300, or even higher?  It seems all calculations assume ~$100 price forever and everyone's ultimate conclusion is that you could never make a profit.

With BTC losing 25% of its value just recently, you're being very optimistic.
408  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-E.com exchange Bitcoin, Litecoin, Namecoin <-> USD\BTC (fee 0.2%) on: June 26, 2013, 09:53:16 PM
Website says it is under maintenance, just have to wait I guess, and nothing to panic about.

That's exactly what that message is supposed to make you think.

It really means there's an unplanned/unforeseen problem.

The fact that the server is responding and giving the error message, however, is a good thing. It means the site probably isn't gone forever.
409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Btc-e on: June 26, 2013, 07:51:02 PM
On a production website, you don't take it down to add or change something. You make the changes in a development environment, test them thoroughly, and then push them out to production transparently.

Can you imagine Paypal or Ebay putting up a "maintenance" message?
410  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Btc-e on: June 26, 2013, 07:11:28 PM
A maintenance message on a website is often a nice way to say there's an unexpected problem so that nobody panics.

I like ABC. PPS is definitely the way to go if you like consistency.
412  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mining Hardware - Purchase Method Poll on: June 24, 2013, 06:20:16 PM
All I want is a product that is in-stock when I order that will pay for itself within a couple weeks. Drop the USB miner price another 50% and it will still be a little over-priced compared to the cheapest BFL product, but it will at least pay for itself.

And I don't care who I get it from, as long as I actually get it within a few days of ordering.
413  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin - we have a problem. on: June 24, 2013, 04:18:49 AM
But that's actually another problem with Bitcoin - the typical consumer is going to get scared off by the irreversibility.
That is a theory which so far the evidence does not support, given that BitPay continues to see healthy growth in their transaction volume.

Ah, but BitPay users don't represent the typical consumer. Wink
414  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin - we have a problem. on: June 24, 2013, 04:13:17 AM
The point is that a merchant who accepts a card payment has to wait a lot more than 10 minutes in order to get the same assurance that a transaction will not be reversed as a 1-conf bitcoin transaction provides.

If you compare like to like, then Bitcoin is extraordinarily fast compared to the legacy payment system.

Ah, if you're talking about a transaction not being reversible, yes, that can take months. But that's actually another problem with Bitcoin - the typical consumer is going to get scared off by the irreversibility.
415  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin - we have a problem. on: June 24, 2013, 04:11:31 AM
Weeks or months?? We're in the 21st century now, we don't use mechanical Visa machines with carbon paper anymore...
Since you're such an expert on how electronic payments work, you can describe the process of what happens when you swipe your card and how those various steps map onto the same process in Bitcoin, right?

I actually used to work at a credit card company about 20 years ago and have since been involved in programming e-commerce applications, so yeah, I think I know a little about how it works. Wink
416  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin - we have a problem. on: June 22, 2013, 10:16:52 PM
Tell me how I'm supposed to do any transaction in person if we have to wait 2 hours for confirmations?
Entire consumer economies function based on a payment method (charge card) which has confirmation times measured in weeks or months and yet merchants still somehow find a way to make it work..

Weeks or months?? We're in the 21st century now, we don't use mechanical Visa machines with carbon paper anymore...
417  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitCoins for Edward Snowden. on: June 22, 2013, 10:13:56 PM
The guy makes $200k+ per year while working at the NSA, he probably don't need money right now.

Actually, he lied about that, too.
Actually, it wasn't a lie. 200k was his career high. He worked in many areas, that is why he knows so much.
The government (via the NSA - our new Govt) is really scrambling to quiet the Shit Storm.
Here is another whistleblower going into a bit more. http://www.corbettreport.com/interview-685-russ-tice-reveals-the-truth-about-nsa-spying/
Long live freedom (of choice)...

How anyone can side with a government that has lied (e.g. Iraq weapons of mass destruction, Afghanistan, etc) is beyond me.

Just because I call Snowden out as a treasonous liar doesn't mean I support unconstitutional actions by my government.
418  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: June 22, 2013, 10:12:37 PM
So on BTC-e someone PM'd me about Devcoin. I had heard of it before but I don't know the slightest thing about it. Does anyone know the story of this? Could it be successful? The DVC chart seemed to mirror the chart of PPC and LTC. Just looking for some useful information on whether this is a wise investment or not.

Devcoin comes free with bitcoin mining if you use a pool that merge-mines it, such as mmpool.bitparking.com

But it's pretty worthless.
419  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: June 22, 2013, 10:11:34 PM
I have been mining bitcoin for a bit.   Looking into trying Litecoin.

What pool do you guys suggest?   I like PPS but am open if there is one that seems to be fair fees.

I like WeMineLTC.com
420  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: June 22, 2013, 10:10:15 PM

Given the current state of ASICMiner, what are everyone's thoughts on investing in it at the current price for alt currency mining? I have 50 BTC that I bought a long time ago and I'm looking to get something out of it.

If I had 50 BTC from a long time ago that I was looking to get something out of, I'd cash out.  Wink
