401  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Input Requested for Possible Bitcoin Convention on: August 31, 2011, 06:09:15 PM
Well fist off , I think we should follow the decentralized model. A multi-site location connected using something like this.

So you're suggesting we just hold a really large-scale video chat?
402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Input Requested for Possible Bitcoin Convention on: August 31, 2011, 06:05:27 PM
As a long-time Las Vegas resident, I can definitively tell you that this place was MADE for conventions. You will have precisely zero problems laying your hands on every last thing you need and you'll have no issues drawing attendees from anywhere in the U.S. since flights to Vegas are made often and cheap, we have massively developed taxi/public-transit infrastructure, etc. (Just don't hold it during the summer, that's suicidal)

405  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: If you could design a custom graphics card.. on: August 29, 2011, 06:02:43 PM
For bitcoin mining? I wouldn't. By the time you design a custom GPU solution you could have bought an FPGA board or designed an ASIC, which has the benefit of consuming far less power to do the same job.
406  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TED discussion - Bitcoin - Commerce without Borders on: August 29, 2011, 04:27:58 PM
Maybe a TED talk about cryptocurrency in general would be better; less "self-promotional".

+1

As it turns out there are a few good examples of cryptocurrency floating around right now. Bitcoin and Namecoin are currently the most noteworthy but certainly we shouldn't exclude the others. If this happens, NMC should DEFINITELY be mentioned.
407  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TED discussion - Bitcoin - Commerce without Borders on: August 29, 2011, 04:19:35 PM
A few months ago I actually got an automated email from TED informing me that someone had nominated me to speak about bitcoin. I personally feel there are better choices (Gavin springs immediately to mind) but perhaps my nominator wanted more of an end-user perspective than a developer?

In any case I will +1 this in every manner possible, I want us to get on TED and I don't care who speaks on the topic... Though I'd be lying if I didn't selfishly wish it were me Grin

Just saying, I'm pretty sure my work would give me time off with THAT as an excuse lol.

Bought some hyper-inflationary bank notes and he was honest and up-front about the condition of the bills, communicated well and the bills arrived very quickly considering they were postmarked from Poland!

only now to I decide to check block explorer after I pay him half and I see now that this is a new address. I feel like he might have given us a new address for each of us to cover tracks

What I paid to: http://blockexplorer.com/address/1Gzgq8E1g82VsQ5v9EVF9cJgz7oQJRiFyS

Or he could have given each of you a new address because that's recommended standard practice

30btc is pretty pricey  Shocked

Lol how many times do i have to say that i plan on keeping it.

Then why bother listing it at a price you know you won't get? I love bitcoin and all but I can buy those for $150 ~= 14 BTC on ebay. I'm sure it sucks for re-sellers and hobbyists alike to have inventory that goes from $350 to $100 MSRP overnight but that's how electronics goes and you don't get to ask for the old price any more when the market is flooded at the new price.

This is a low priority transaction.
This transaction includes 0.00050000 BTC as fee.
size: 258 bytes
priority: 34,813,953
input: 4.99000000 BTC
4.99000000 BTC from f603d3c840f966b8ca24d97b25d0adcf2f1bbafdfd1ae5a1a6683ca6163767ea:1 (1LVJZFuHuvUNWwBuTUoU2KGKtGPxEMoWCT)
output: 4.98950000 BTC

0.45620243 BTC to 16yDAsjXs9a8rbPLpMfDJU33pgDGGABCrh

0.0005 BTC fee makes the transaction low priority so anyone paying more gets into blocks first. Just be patient and it'll show up Smiley

Edit: and kokjo said the same thing while I was typing Tongue Damn you for being brief!
414  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Conference 2011 NYC on: August 25, 2011, 06:32:29 AM
Anyway, you'll love the 5-star resorts on the beaches of Pattaya....  for about maybe 10% of the cost of the same room in the US.

Exactly. It's why huge conferences (CES!) are held in Las Vegas as well. It's simply a great place for conferences no matter everything else that the place in question might be famous for.

I actually live in Vegas. I don't exactly have the resources to whip something up from nothing - least of all the TIME to do something of this scale - but I can say this: bring bitcon to Vegas and you WILL have a fair amount of local assistance and one hell of a turnout. I'd also advise that there should be a bitcoin booth at next year's CES and Defcon, and there may still be time for a booth at this year's HOPE.
415  Economy / Gambling / Re: 10th bet gets 1BTC - only received 0.01? on: August 24, 2011, 10:22:31 PM
I wouldn't blacklist the IP if I were you. Most of the time the same person doesn't have the same IP for more than a couple of days, at most. After that the IP is reassigned to a new network, meaning you will just end up banning some other random network. I restart my router all the time, and every time I do, I get assigned a new IP address.

Could always give browser footprinting a shot

25% ROI and a massive 25% jackpot should make this an interesting round!
417  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Card is trapped with conectors in motherboard on: August 23, 2011, 07:09:47 PM
Right angle sata cable?

+1

Had to do this myself once or twice. I understand it when I'm buying a board with one PCIe slot, small form factor, but if you're designing a motherboard with 2+ PCIe slots you HAVE to know that your market is probably gonna slap a full-length monster of a card in all of them at some point. Never understood why they couldn't use right-angle SATA connectors on the board itself or just not put them right under the flipping card, but they do and so right-angle SATA cables were born Smiley
418  Other / Off-topic / Re: Eligius miners aware of prayers in block headers? on: August 23, 2011, 04:08:08 PM
I can't blame the OP for wanting to disseminate the information, though I will say that there are probably more tactful ways to do so than posting "omg gaiz he iz nutball!!1!" on the forums.

The OP was very tactful.  The rest of us were less so.

That's actually what I meant, my language could've been more clear, sorry.
419  Other / Off-topic / Re: Eligius miners aware of prayers in block headers? on: August 23, 2011, 12:28:16 AM
I just love that anyone is shocked that the guy who named his pool after the patron saint of goldsmiths is a hardcore catholic. I liked Eligius for a long time, it's a good pool with a good payout system. I found out about the big ball of crazy behind it a while back and voted with my feet (er... voted with my GPUs?). I can't blame the OP for wanting to disseminate the information, though I will say that there are probably more tactful ways to do so than posting "omg gaiz he iz nutball!!1!" on the forums.

Edit: Also apparently the patron saint of coin collectors, which seems more appropriate. I should probably read things before linking them  Grin
420  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Open letter to Bruce Wagner on: August 22, 2011, 11:32:56 PM
In a world where I could've walked around streaming a feed from my freaking PHONE through the whole thing, I honestly am very disappointed not to have seen a dedicated web site with constant updates, videos, the whole nine yards. The documentation at defcon is better, and that's a conference full of people who try their best not to be documented. Bruce, I love you man but I am disappoint.
