<< Nicole adopted Chester from Animal Ark Rescue after learning he was terminally ill with cancer. She plans to make his final days the best ever. The Columbus, Georgia, resident spotted Chester on the not-for-profit animal rescue centre's Facebook page, and fell in love the moment she saw him.

"I am trying to give him normal doggy experiences that he may have never had the chance to do before, and a ton of spoiling", Nicole told the local news channel. "‘So far he took a ride with the windows down, he had a famous Nathan's hot dog, he had a doggie sundae, he had a milk and oatmeal bath (spa day), he went on a shopping spree where he got a cozy bed, bandannas, lots of treats, and toys. Out of all of that his favorite part has been any of the food and treats – he still has a HUGE appetite!" she says. >>

Woman driver smashed her Mini into the back of a van while pleasuring herself with a sex toy at the wheel

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3159141/Woman-driver-smashed-van-pleasuring-sex-toy.html

<< A woman crashed into the back of a van while using a sex toy when she was stuck in traffic. The Mini driver lurched forwards and hit the vehicle in front of her after apparently getting distracted at the wheel.

The driver of the van, who was delivering fish to restaurants, initially worried that he would be sacked for his involvement in the accident. But when bosses at his company, M&J Seafood, checked video footage they saw that the other motorist had been using a vibrator.

The film, captured using the van's rear camera, showed the woman - said to be in her 30s - hurriedly doing up her trousers in the aftermath of the crash. >>

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/jul/08/time-warner-cable-must-pay-229500-to-texas-woman-it-robocalled-153-times

<< Many people dislike receiving robocalls. Araceli King disliked receiving 153 of them from a single company.

Time Warner Cable Inc must pay the insurance claims specialist $229,500 for placing 153 automated calls meant for someone else to her cellphone in less than a year, even after she told it to stop, a Manhattan federal judge ruled on Tuesday. King, of Irving, Texas, accused Time Warner Cable of harassing her by leaving messages for Luiz Perez, who once held her cellphone number, even after she made clear who she was in a seven-minute discussion with a company representative.

The calls were made through an "interactive voice response" system meant for customers who were late paying bills. >>

UK and US demands to access encrypted data are "unprincipled and unworkable"

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jul/07/uk-and-us-demands-to-access-encrypted-data-are-unprincipled-and-unworkable

<< Demands by US and British security agencies for access to encrypted communication data have been dealt a serious blow in a report by an influential group of cryptographers and computer scientists who dismiss the move as unprincipled and unworkable. They warn that such access "will open doors through which criminals and malicious nation states can attack the very individuals law enforcement seeks to defend".

The report says: "The costs would be substantial, the damage to innovation severe and the consequences for economic growth hard to predict. The costs to our moral authority would also be considerable."

The expert opinion comes on the eve of an appearance before the US Senate intelligence committee by the FBI director, James Comey, who last year savaged tech companies for embracing end-to-end encryption, claiming it would deprive the security services of potentially life-saving information.

David Cameron and the UK home secretary, Theresa May, are proposing to introduce legislation in the autumn to force companies such as Apple, Google and Microsoft to provide access to encrypted data. The proposed legislation has been requested by the intelligence agencies, which say encryption has made their job much more difficult. >>

<< Vancouver has approved new rules to license and regulate illegal marijuana stores, making it the first city in Canada to attempt to control the burgeoning market – and setting it on a collision course with the country's federal government. After four days of public hearings, the city council approved regulations that will set zoning controls and hefty licence fees for Vancouver's many pot shops: the city of 600,000 is thought to have more marijuana stores than its 109 Starbucks locations. >>

François Hollande calls emergency meeting after WikiLeaks reveals US spied on three French presidents

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jun/23/francois-hollande-emergency-meeting-wikileaks-us-spied-three-presidents-france

<< The French president, François Hollande, has called an emergency meeting of his country's defence council for Wednesday morning after revelations that American agents spied on three successive French presidents between 2006 and 2012. According to WikiLeaks documents published late on Tuesday, even the French leaders' mobile phone conversations were listened to and recorded.

The leaked US documents, marked "top secret", were based on phone taps and filed in an NSA document labelled "Espionnage Elysée" (Elysée Spy), according to the newspaper Libération and investigative news website Mediapart. The US was listening to the conversations of centre-right president Jacques Chirac, his successor Nicolas Sarkozy, and the current French leader, Socialist François Hollande, elected in 2012.

The recorded conversations, which were handled by the summary services unit at the NSA, were said to reveal few state secrets but show clear evidence of the extent of American spying on countries considered allies. WikiLeaks documents suggest that other US spy targets included French cabinet ministers and the French ambassador to the United States. >>

Google eavesdropping tool installed on computers without permission

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jun/23/google-eavesdropping-tool-installed-computers-without-permission

<< Privacy campaigners and open source developers are up in arms over the secret installing of Google software which is capable of listening in on conversations held in front of a computer. First spotted by open source developers, the Chromium browser – the open source basis for Google's Chrome – began remotely installing audio-snooping code that was capable of listening to users. It was designed to support Chrome's new "OK, Google" hotword detection – which makes the computer respond when you talk to it – but was installed, and, some users have claimed, it is activated on computers without their permission.

"Without consent, Google's code had downloaded a black box of code that – according to itself – had turned on the microphone and was actively listening to your room", said Rick Falkvinge, the Pirate party founder, in a blog post. "Which means that your computer had been stealth configured to send what was being said in your room to somebody else, to a private company in another country, without your consent or knowledge, an audio transmission triggered by… an unknown and unverifiable set of conditions."

The feature is installed by default as part of Google's Chrome browser. But open source advocates are up in arms about it also being installed with the open source variant Chromium, because the listening code is considered to be "black box", not part of the open source audit process.

"We don't know and can’t know what this black box does", said Falkvinge. >>

Cops Go on Wild Rampage in Cannabis Raid, Destroy Property and Joke About Kicking Disabled Woman

http://filmingcops.com/horrific-raw-video-shows-cops-raiding-marijuana-dispensary

<< Disturbing raw video footage has emerged showing a motley crue of police officers raiding a peaceful cannabis dispensary with guns pointed at the medical patients. The cops break through the front door as if they're in a war zone. They make their way to the display counter, and startle several unsuspecting patients. You can hear the cops screaming at the patients to get down on the ground, treating them as if they've done something egregiously wrong just for being there.

Perhaps the most horrific part of the video is when a disabled woman in a wheelchair tries to roll to safety. A pompous female officer then jokes about "kicking her in her fucking nub". The woman seen in the wheel chair is Marla James and uses medical-grade cannabis for her health. Marla says she was confused as to why the police officer would openly mock her disability.

"I was really nice to that officer", Marla said. "I even complimented her on her hair. I treated that woman with respect and I have no idea why she wanted to kick my stump", she added. >>

New York court rules examiners can keep organs without notifying family

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/jun/12/new-york-organs-medical-examiners

<< New York medical examiners can keep organs without notifying family members when bodies are released, a New York appeals court ruled on Wednesday. The decision divided the seven-member court 5-2, after a Staten Island forensic pathologist kept the brain of a 17-year-old car crash victim, only for it to be discovered by a classmate on a field trip. The appeals court justices all wanted the state legislature to decide the matter.

The right to claim a loved one's remains in order to bury them is known as "right of sepulcher". The right is considered part of common law, derived from unwritten elements in English law on which many American statutes are based. The family of Jesse Shipley brought suit after a forensic pathologist in Richmond County returned Shipley's body but not his brain, and instead "fixed" the brain in a jar of formaldehyde-derivative fluid. >>

Silk Road: Ross Ulbricht files appeal against convictions and sentencing

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jun/05/silk-road-ross-ulbricht-appeal-convictions-sentencing

<< Ross Ulbricht, the man convicted of running the online drug emporium Silk Road, has appealed against his conviction and sentence, according to court documents filed on Thursday. In February, a jury in a federal court in Manhattan found Ulbricht, who went by the alias "Dread Pirate Roberts", guilty on seven counts related to the drug marketplace, including running a narcotics-trafficking enterprise, money laundering and computer hacking.

Before sentencing, Ulbricht wrote a letter to Judge Katherine Forrest begging her to "leave a light at the end of the tunnel" in sentencing and "leave me my old age". But Forrest handed down the harshest sentences possible for Ulbricht – one for 20 years, one for five years, one for 15 years and two for life, to be served concurrently with no possibility of parole. >>

415  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to uninstall Windows Update KB3035583 – The Windows 10 downloder on: June 05, 2015, 06:13:41 AM
I think you get the start menu back.

You don't get THE start menu back, you get A start menu - one that is pretty much useless due to its lack of customization. On XP 64 (and even on 7), I can keep my menu structure well organized, with submenus like Audio, Net, Games, Text, Utils, Video, etc., where I place the shortcuts for programs of each type. On Squares 10, there's no way to create folders on the start menu. That will probably be possible with some third-party add-on, but I really don't think I should need a third-party add-on to be able to customize such a basic aspect of the UI. These types of add-ons are also very prone to mess up other elements of the OS, like I had the opportunity to experience on Win 7 in the past. And that's just one example. Actually, Microsoft seem to be completely lost as to what they want the start menu to be like, because every update of the technical preview changes it radically.

I won't even get started on the amount of customization features Microsoft has been removing from the OS since the 8th Abomination came out, simply because they are determined to make desktops look and work like smartphones, and for that, the shortest route is to eliminate as much UI customization as possible. This article published a few days ago on The Register demonstrated in a very clever way that the whole "insider program" was a big farce and not representative of the actual public that will actually use the OS, because it was mostly MS fanboys who signed up for the "program", and the OS is being designed based on feedback by this extremely limited sample of users. One example from the article that gives me the creeps: "In Windows 10, Microsoft says it will hide running apps from the task bar, breaking a twenty-year-old convention which started with Windows 95 – potentially causing confusion for hundreds of millions of regular users. It's doing so because fanbois who signed up for Microsoft's public Windows preview programme say they marginally preferred the change."

Like LaudaM said on the thread about updates being forced on users, DirectX 12 will be the main reason to make people use Squares 10. If Microsoft weren't so desperate to gain more share on the mobile phone market, we could have had a new Windows which would be a perfected version of 7, with DirectX 12 and the other core improvements implemented on 8/8.1/10, only with a decent UI. As it is, any Windows user with an intelligence level above that of an ape will stick with 7 or earlier versions of Windows, and use Squares 10 for gaming only.

Why are people so mad about it? As far as I understand, it's for security, since out-of-date systems have been more vulnerable in the past. Also, people who like to tweak every fine detail of their Windows system won't be using the Home edition anyway.

Am I the only one who thinks Windows is going downhill since 7. I don't like that "tablet/touch" interface they are trying to shove on my computer.

Since 7? It's been going downhill since Windows Vista, Windows 7 only made it bearable which is why everyone is sticking with that version until they remove support and try to force us onto a new OS again.

I'm still on XP 64 and proud of it. My current install is a little over 5 years old and it's still as stable and responsive as when I installed it. Unline XP 32, XP 64 was built on the Server 2003 R2 codebase, hence the stability.

yeah, how can you disable this icon? there's no way I will ever go with a freemium OS - Win7 could be my last windows.

I posted the link to a guide on how to disable it here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1078962.0

Note that, even after you disable the downloader, its files will remain in their directories and you won't be able to delete them without taking ownership of the folders. To do that and completely remove that piece of crap from your machine, follow the other instructions on that same guide.

Windows 10 Home edition may force updates on you

http://www.cnet.com/news/windows-10-home-edition-may-force-updates/

Users of the Home edition would not be able to defer automatic updates, according to Microsoft's Windows 10 specifications.

<< In Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, Microsoft gives you the ability to control when or even if you want to download and install updates. But that seems to be changing with Windows 10, at least with the Home edition. A new Windows 10 specifications page posted by Microsoft provides system requirements, notes and other facts about the upcoming new operating system software. And one section in particular reveals a change to the way Microsoft will let you handle updates.

"Windows 10 Home users will have updates from Windows Update automatically available", the Descriptions page explains. "Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise users will have the ability to defer updates." >>
