401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Advice for somebody thinking of starting to mine? on: June 10, 2018, 06:26:39 PM
What would your advice be for somebody to start a rig for alts coins etc? Or buy a share in a BTC mining operation?

For advice on mining altcoins post in the altcoin section.  I've never heard of anybody selling a "share" of their Bitcoin mining operation,  I would be very cautious of something that sounded like that.

yes was forced to move due to no bch support here Sad but still miss the community Cheesy

Took me a moment to realize what you were talking about.

This Pool is a Bitcoin Pool.  Why would it support an attack on Bitcoin?  How could anyone trust any "Bitcoin" pool that supported such a hostile fork against Bitcoin?

404  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What is the Best Mining Option on: May 25, 2018, 08:29:19 PM
Any one Can Explain me or give me some a little knowledge about Mining. I would like to ask some question What is the best mining Option Software using My GPU or I will buy some miner Like Ant miner?
My second question if software base of mining what is the best spec of mother and GPU should I buy?
My third question if the Ant miner better than GPU where I can Purchase Ant miner And please give me some a little Idea how much the any miner that's all Thank you so much

You can't mine Bitcoin with a GPU.  If you want to talk about GPU post in the altcoin section.

Forum rules are pinned to the top of each section, you need to read them before posting.

You purchase Antminers from the manufacture, which is Bitmain.

With two more miners being delivered tomorrow so I thought I'd go ahead and make a box to help control both the heat and the sound.

I have a lid already made with hinges and a locking latch. Still yet to finish are the grates inside and holes to be drilled for power and network. I also will be putting together duct work to exhaust the heat outside. I have two inline duct fans being delivered tomorrow to push/pull air through the box.
Hope those inline duct fans are rated around 300cfm...  it would be best to match them to the combined flow rate of the miner fans.
Roger that. Local stores had max 80 cfm.
Trying to get a better understanding of your reasoning/method for calculating the needed airflow:

My Avalon6 fan runs at ~3500 RPM. How does this translate to CFM, and/or how can I calculate some of this stuff myself? Thanks.

CFM is Cubic Feet per Minute.  RPM is just one of the variables.  The fan should have the CFM listed in the data sheet.  It's not something you generally calculate for yourself.

Just out of interest what is the shortest gap between found blocks on Kano pool ?

A few hours,we have days with 3 blocks/24 h
 Cool

Much shorter than that.

In the last 108 blocks the shortest gap looks like 6 minutes.  there have been shorter gaps as well.

hi,

last 2 ! blocks show in my earnings, but they havn't been transferred to my personal wallet yet. Last block i can get, as its only few hours ago. But the previous block should have been appeared in my wallet, right?

The last two blocks haven't reached 101 confirmations yet.  A block isn't spendable until it has 101 confirms.

HI Guys, just going through my kano pool settings and checking my difficulty settings, why would one miner be set at 1634 and the other be at 7341. Does this make any difference to the work or the reward ?

Thanks in advance.

The pool adjusts worker difficulty so that you submit approximately 18 shares per minute, so that the pool can estimate your hash rate.  If you leave this setting to 0 the pool will adjust itself.  If you put those numbers in there you should probably set them back to 0 so that the pool can adjust them.

It has no effect on your payout.  Higher diff numbers will have higher share variance in the short term.

Has the network hashrate ever contracted?  Seems it expands and expands regardless of any other factors.

Difficulty adjusts every 2016 blocks to attempt to keep the block find rate at one every 10 minutes.

So, hashrate has contracted several times, just never as much as it has increased.

The continual hashrate increase is an indicator of confidence in Bitcoin.  So it's a good thing.

so if the pool leads me to difficulty 15 I have to leave so ...

ok, thanks

The pool adjusts the difficulty of the shares you submit to, I believe, 18 shares per minute.  That is done to conserve bandwidth for both your internet connection and the pools and to conserve pool resources.

i dont understand why someone would be in a hurry to turn on new machines. with the market in free fall its unlikely they will even pay off the machines now let alone energy costs.

Before that crazy surge to just short of $20,000, Bitcoin was around $1200 for a quite a while.  So, while I wish the price was higher, this price is pretty dog gone good, if you ask me.
414  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Manual Diff Setting ----- WHY??? on: March 25, 2018, 08:47:34 PM
Could someone please explain to me why there is the option to maually set the difficulty on some pools?

There were some early ASIC miners that wouldn't function correctly if the diff was set to a power of 2.  So manually setting the diff to an odd number would ameliorate that problem.

Also rental services keep changing their difficulty requirements so you can effect that, sometimes, by manually setting a high diff.

Most pools automatically set the diff to a share rate of around 18 shares per minute.  It is best to let the pool take care of it.

lol 2 yrs down the road reward wil half again and mining will almost come to a grinding halt it will all be about tradeing then lol

Right... Never heard that one before.  Mining hadn't come to a halt or even slowed down due to previous halvings.  And I doubt it will happen in the future.
416  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [BLOCKS PARTY] ckpool.org ZERO FEE SPLNS no registration mining pool on: March 24, 2018, 08:23:47 PM
No. I'm stuck using Bitmain's internal miner. (I am familiar with CGminer & config set-up & commands)
Which would mean saving a backup of the config TOR file then editing it and reloading ( Which I have no experience doing so hesitant ...is BM-miner really 100% CGminer compatible? )

I doubt it.  I think they forked it long before -ck added that feature.  Avalons use official CGMiner.
417  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [BLOCKS PARTY] ckpool.org ZERO FEE SPLNS no registration mining pool on: March 24, 2018, 04:54:23 PM
Please remind me how to manually set my mindiff a little higher. (I seem to have topped out at 11K)
(I'd like to reduce the bandwidth a bit)
I tried d=24000 in the password area but it did not work.

If your using CGMiner add "--suggest-diff 24000"

Thanks for the update.

I am wondering if anyone remembers the month and year when highest number of blocks were found at ckpoolsolo?
Thanks

It's in the blockchain.  Search it and let us know. Smiley
