401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TattooCoin (TATO) - The First Crypto Currency for the Tattoo Generation on: March 17, 2017, 02:07:58 AM
i spoke to a couple of my clients today, about paying for their tattoos with crypto, and explained it away as being similar to making a "tattoo savings account", that what TATO they purchased to set aside for a tattoo, not only would their wallets "stake" and receive interest (much higher than a bank would give) towards their tattoo purchase, as well as possibly see an increase in the value as the unit cost is so low right now. speaking not only as a cryptocurrency developer, but as a tattoo artist, which is truly my bread and butter, a focused currency like this is a great idea.

would be good to see a market one day for supplies. tips and needles. lots and lots of tips and needles.

regardless, i will have a "Tattoocoin accepted here" sign up in the window soon.

As far as I understand we are now focusing on getting relistet on Bittrex as the other exchanges do not support ETH like coins during POW phase. Any chance to vote on Bittrex for SOIL?

the process to get relisted on bittrex is a nearly done thing. im presently waiting to hear back about a bit of an exemption to the changed volume (.5BTC day avg over a week) to what it was at before while we get our market back up and running. ive been dong a lot of work showing them that this project is still very much alive, some concepts of things im working towards in the short term.... im hoping we'll know by end of the week, have our order board back up in place.

ive been working on updating our website best as i can around spring break here in the maritimes. entertaining my son when he was 4 was a CINCH. hes going on 7 now, the teevee isnt as adequate a babysitter. ive been working it up at soilcoin.wordpress.com as the cryptosoil.com site wasnt letting me really nuts and bolts edit. of course, wordpress is a bit of a learning curve, thus.. "under construction"

there have been many bad bad irish curses thrown at the computer the last few days over this silly thing. better than the corel website creation software id used VERY SUCCESSFULLY before to build the SOILex website, id gotten things close to where i liked it and the whole thing crashed, taking 8 hours of work with it. i THOUGH id saved it as id gone along. turns out mondays dont give a damn about that sort of thing...

End of 2017 is quiet a while to go with POW, is there another option to secure the blockchain as to not getting hijacked by a 51% attack?

theres several options we can take, and some of them require a level of trust or minor centralization. ive done a fair bit of reading on the situation, and ill tr to have something written up as son as ive figured ot how to kill it with wordpress. having an up to date and position-centric website is central not only to ensuring our relisting at bittrex, but ensuring that we can reinvigorate the brand of SOIL and bring interest back towards the developments and applications we will be making.

read a fair bit today regarding the "decentralized capital" set of solidity contracts that are used to bring stable "digital-fiat" onto the blockchain which is backed by an accounted real world asset set in an account. one of my biggest dreams for SOIL is a commodities index and trade platform, and the idea of VETTED crypto-stocks, and fiat/crypto gateways are an important part of enabling blockchain usage for real world events.

403  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TattooCoin (TATO) - The First Crypto Currency for the Tattoo Generation on: March 13, 2017, 03:01:50 PM
it would be great to have an android wallet available so that someone like myself who does tattoos could set up a transaction with a client in-store and complete the transaction with a quick QRcode scan. an included widget with market prices would be great as well, so that one doesnt need to check with coinmarketcap for the present average. i love the idea of this currency, and i hope that you see decent adoption. as for myself, ill definitely be looking at ways to implement accepting TATO from my clients, and will talk up the project to them. i love the idea that its a stakable currency, meaning that i can simply deposit my wages and let them grow, hoping for a stable enough market to sell them as needed towards new grips, needles and ink, the constant overhead of the tattoo business.

how much, in TATO, would you pay for someone to have the Tattoocoin logo displayed prominently on their skin? to be honest i just like the design, but was thinking what a perfect wallet, to have ones QRcode access to their wallet available as a tattoo on their skin? i have a program and supplies for printing off "temporary tattoos" for my son, might be another way to issue a cold wallet or simply have access to ones wallet, either temporarily or permanently.

already staking close to 2000 TATU, will certainly be watching this project and getting more, by whichever means - trade of altcoin or services - that i can. keep up the great work!

Hi -

Unfortunately we do not support ETH based currencies / tokens (except for ETH and ETC) currently.

Regards
ethought

email: support@coinexchange.io

this isnt the first exchange response members of the development team have gotten regarding listing at a traditional centralized cryptocurrency exchange. i have to wonder what it is that creates that atmosphere? when the 51% crew was running wild and the collapse of a few ETH-based chains (or at least a reordering), i think that may be why theres an adversity towards accepting dagger algo currencies onto exchanges. ive resubmitted our package to bittrex, now that i have enhanced identity verification.

ive been diligently working on a new and uptodate working website for SOILcoin, and after a few hours of banging my head against the table, its finally coming along smoothly. i hope to have it finished for tomorrow, at least the basic bits of it. i have a new hatred for WIDGETS. but will try to at least find relevant ones.

i hope everyone is having a decent weekend!
405  Economy / Scam Accusations / Freebiebitcoin.com scam. on: March 12, 2017, 03:36:17 AM
Ive never understood why faucet operators allow ads to be placed by obvious scammers, unless the faucets themselves in those cases are owned by the scam site further up the chain in the first place. Anyhow, one of the banner ads on one of the reputable and long running BTC faucets advertised for freebiebitcoins.com and their offer to deposit $10 USD in users' coinbase accounts for performing daily tasks. I never expect these sorts of offers to be legit, so I wasnt surprised when I finished the first task (perform a linkback to their site from one's own personal website) and three days later received no ten bucks worth of BTC. I did contact their parent company, or at least the one advertised as holding the copyright to the freebitcoin site, openmerchantaccount.com, which seems to be a long serving app development company that has put out a few apps that i actually use on my cellphone, put out by their arm Infinite Loop Development Ltd. i havent received a response from them yet, but while i didnt expect to actually get paid USD $10 a day in BTC, therell be a lot of people that do, so i thought it prudent to bring up the issue here when i couldnt find any reports on the site regarding this particular poorly set up scam site.
406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SOIL | Environmental | Agriculture | Quixotic | Hackathon | Contracts on: March 11, 2017, 06:30:19 PM

It's probably good that this coin isn't listed. PoW attacks can happen and exchanges robbed. There could be a really good future for this coin if it's able to switch to PoS a week or more before Ethereum switches over. Then once the network is working securely, open trading back up on bittrex.

Casper proof of stake consensus is the future. PoW works better if there is only 1 biggest chain with all the PoW security behind it. Smaller coins are better off using PoS. It's actually the best way for this coin to proceed.

Ive read a fair bit about the Casper protocols, and id rather wait until after ETH switches over and deals with the likely bugs to the system, or at least deals with the eleventyseven million questions everyone will have, and why theyre not staking blocks and...and...  etc ad nauseum.. *BUT* Proof of Stake would be the truly responsible direction for SOILcoin in the simple idea of energy savings to keep the blockchain in motion. ive loved the innovations on some of the hybrid Pow/PoS currencies, but being most of those also maintain a "naive Proof of Stake" they dont trly address potential attack vectors.

i do like the idea that a malicious attack against the blockchain would cause the loss of the attacker's staked currency, although i havent found out exactly where those penalized funds go, either to a burn address or an equal redistribution among participative wallets perhaps? anyhow.  the time required to set up enough wallets as security deposit holding stakes in order to force an attack on the chain would be too costly to implement, and likely far too time consuming to keep up.

buterin had projected late 2017 as the release, but from what ive looked at with the protocols they seem decent. the parameters in Casper4 have 7 second block times, which would be near instantaneous transaction throughput, and what works out to a 4.5% APR which is sustainable (humorously enough, it works out to 0.01234% daily). ETHs current monetary (supply) inflation rate is at about 18.8% annually.

those sorts of block time parameters would be very beneficial to SOIL, although i do feel we would also benefit by offering a higher APR to increase supply, as i think ANY changeover to PoS would be received with strong positive market momentum. the question there becomes what makes a PoS currency attractive, and for which reasons?

high interest paying PoS coins supper from eventual hyperinflation which drives the price down (not that SOIL couldve gone much lower than it was at delisting) and im absolutely positive that we'll see more than a few ETH clones pop up after the advent of the Casper protocol advertising near-HYIP level rates. all theyd have to do is move the block interest rate from 0.000001 to 0.0001 and theyve created a currency with 450% APR.

even decent sounding rates of 72% APR (wherein you double your principal in 12 months) would create a massive oversupply. with SOILcoin, we are actually somewhat blessed to have a small circulation of currency that is entirely in the hands of the public. even a high rate of interest (although im not suggesting anything like either of the above examples) would not hurt SOIL if we dont adhere to the original 33million SOIL hard cap.

our current steady distribution model of 1 SOIL per 12 second block produces an average of 2.6million SOIL per year (when the blockchain is running smoothly, and avoiding "difficulty ice ages" which our mainnet homestead switchover should alleviate) is about 50%. we could maintain that sort of level (say 45%) of supply inflation (or 228day avg balance-ROI), which would actually appear more attractive to investors.

anyhow, our switch to PoS will be something i hope the community embraces when we have the opportunity to do so, but i do think we have to have some good discussions behind the economy of doing so, and getting out on the exchanges again is a higher priority. its a shame that novaexchange precluded us based on the mother-chain protocol, but hopefully we will have a presence via an android p2p exchange (something similar to coinswap) and multi-wallet platform very soon. not QUITE an exchange but still the opportunity to divest of SOILcoin into other cryptocurrencies or the other way around. ive been speaking with the developer of one f these projects and as they already maintain ETH on their system, adding us wouldnt be much of an issue. hoping to hear back from him this weekend. we remain somewhat hampered tehre by the lack of traditional centralized market presence. ive emailed ritchie from bittrex again, as our wallets are still functioning with bittrex, and the chain is running. hoping he  might allow for a smaller daily average volume to begin with for us, something along the lines of what was in place previously (0.2BTC/day over 7 day average).

407  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH and ETC on: March 11, 2017, 01:27:25 AM
I think theres room for both chains and development philosophies. Personally i never agreed with the fork, it was a bail out and it went againat thr principles behind ethereum that attracted me to it in the first place. But. As another poster said, thats where the development is going on. I applaud the guys from ETC for standing on principle, but ETH and related projects should be about the smart contracts they provide for and less about the name calling. I was interested enough in ETH, or the EVM, that i was involved in one of the first clones of ETH as an independent blockchain, SOILcoin. I spend a ton of time reading the newest dApp projects, going over their github repos, and finding ways they can be reimplemented for use towards the SOIL vision. dApps will be the future of crypto, the underlying blockchain will simply need to be stable and scalable. I think ETH as a programmatic tool, as well as its clones, has that figured out, and we're just coming to realize that theres few limitations as to what we CAN build on top of yhe blockchain.
408  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: How far do you think ETH will go? on: March 10, 2017, 09:50:51 PM
I cant see ETH getting much higher than it is. Smart contracts are all run on gas, which is charged in ETH. when the cost of simple value transactions is 21000 gas, or 0.00105 ETH, at present prices at about works out to almost 2 cents (1800 satoshi) per simple operation. Complex or persistent operations with smart contract will run much higher. When one looks at the price not from the point of financial speculation, and instead from a developers standpoint..... there will come a time soon when the cost of doing business on the EVM rivals traditional cloud computing subscriptions... and dApp developers will migrate to lower valued ETH based currencies.

OP updated to have at least correct links. The OP could use freshening up - I'm stuggling with OP design - Would be a good bounty topic?

ill try to clean up the formatting of the text blocks.   i can also look into the proper ROKOS graphics and links to show our involvement in that project. (ive been looking at the same teams "MyGeoMall.com" crypto-run auction site, and the Pioneer altcoin exchange they have just gotten up and running, which might also be good fits for SOILcoin.)

the projects listed in a tentative roadmap can be updated as potential projects for the Foundation to work on as time and technology permit. many of those, using project models on ethereum may even serve as tokenized forms of monetization towards the community fund. once we're up and running smoothly again i can start looking into those one at a time.

i have to rebuild a host for SOILex, and will launch a new and clean instance of that. as an on-chain p2p direct subcurrency exchange with the built in BTCrelay, its an invaluable tool for what is turning out to be an important fixture on ETH-space blockchains. with the format of the relay, it should also be simple to adjust the parameters to relay a light client blockchain for ANY sha256 algo currency directly onto the SOILcoin network. the relay contract costs gas, so ill think about some way to monetize the contract address for setting up the BTC light chain again. i was FUNNELING SOIL into the relay when i was testing it previously.

if you get a chance to get those credentials for me on the community website host, ill get the website done by the weekend. the OP looks much better now, though, without all the broken links. mercy buckets!!!

voted! and ive tweeted it out from our @SOILcoin address, hopefully that garners more clicks. ill get my brother and my wife to put in some votes today as well.
perhaps we could send out an incentive to vote, have someone post a screenshot proving their vote or something, along with their SOIL address and we could send them 10 SOIL or something, what say you folkses?

Nice idea! Is it ok with the forum rules? I woud say 10 per vote plus 5 if we have fulfilled all votes under five days?

community
[SOIL] 0xcddb9a3bcde8885911ce8697d18981fee082094f

that sounds perfect, considering valuation and lack of exchange presence, presently. 244 votes remaining (i just voted again... smiley emoji thingy) so 2400 SOIL +1200 SOIL if conditions are met correctly. i think thats a perfect use of the community fund.

is there an opportunity to fine tune the "more info" data on novaexchange. id think thered be an chance to link into the altsheets block explorer, which would give the proper coin supply (approx 3.5 million, not sure if the reading at coinmarketcap reflects a snapshot of market disconnection and theres been mintage since then) and coin cap (set at 33 million SOIL)

i wonder if the bounty payout couldnt be structured into a smart contract? (laughs) prolly not in time anyhow, but im always trying to find ways for stuff like that to be worked into the blockchain. like the need for a post-it dApp to take the place of the forest of sticky notes attached to my monitor... or just to make room for MORE of them. what sort of proofs would work? just a screenshot showing the uptodate vote count posted to here or to twitter?

ill craft a tweet in the morning for the bounty.

does anyone have a github repo for the project? its sad that it fell apart, as i think multiple-currency supporting online staking wallets like poswallet) will become more and more popular. would be nice to rebuild something like this that could be useful to the public.

Abvhiael, when we were talking about trying to get listed again I purchased a paid weebly account setup for hosting at www.cryptosoil.com. It is already prepaid for a year.  There are no ads since it's paid and it has a blog page built in.  I could provide credentials to our developers and we could use that for a year, then consider switching over to a new domain name when renewal runs next February.  You can build out however you want if that would work.

that would be excellent. id been in process of updating the website before i started getting really sick, so the jobs already halfway done. im not sure what sort of package weebly uses but ill look into it, and make sure everything is formatted correctly and can send you a formatted website to set up on the server, or if you PM the credentials to go in and muck about ill get it rebuilt by end of the week, barring any edits.

As for Nova exchange, I read you get one free vote a day then you can buy votes by purchasing NPOINTS.  They are cheaper than purchasing .4 btc line skip feature.  We should rally as much support as possible then close out missing votes with NPOINTS.

as soon as the voting is open we can tweet out the voting link and get whoever we know to put votes in for us as well. if it takes a couplefew days to get the 250 votes, its not a big thing.

once we've got a working website with uptodate links on it, getting onto some other exchanges may be easy, although i think spreading out the trade between any more than three exchanges presently would be counterproductive. an option would be to get listed on bitsquare, which is a decentralized exchange, running peer to peer exchanges between altcoins.  it has fiat capability but from what ive read about that aspect, while altcoin trading is considered safe, fiat trading is still the wild west.

Quote

Also, I don't know if technically feasible, but can we split block rewards like DASH and have a percentage that goes into a community fund and a percentage that goes to coinholders of a certain minimum threshold who are running nodes to keep the network stable?  This would also act as a protection against project abandonment if mining farm attacks continue because all the rewards wouldn't be tied to mining and our nodes would still have an incentive to keep network running. it's likely the nodes and community miners will be the same group in the beginning anyway, so this may actually protect community miners against having their block rewards shut down completely by mining farm attacks.

ill do a readup  on block reward protocol adjustments under ethereum and see what we can come up with. its a bit of an esoteric area, but id started looking into that idea as a form of setting up a scheduled minting to a community develompment wallet, protected by multisig, as part of the process to set the benchmarks necessary to prevent the 51% attacks that crippled KR (and SHF if i recall correctly - i have to give them kudos for reimagining the project when faced with the problem, and have recently announced their IPFS (interplanetary file storage) implementation as, i believe, a LISK commodity.)

there are a ton of ways we can look at pool mining from outside the box, and from a strengthening community perspective. one option would be to tokenize shares in the pool fees, allowing mining output plus a possibly fungible currency on top, the community coin, which can be written with proof of stake mechanism. this sort of possible prelaunch investment may allow for the purchase of cloud mining power for the pool itself, or to go towards core development operators purchasing and running a small ETH-miner rig hardware that pays directly into the community fund.

ive had over half a year to think of implementtions and ideas for projects that should be fairly simple , and spent a lot of time reading about renewable energy technology and getting a real handle on the internet of things concept. ill always have a thousand ideas running through my head, we could use a post-it board onthe blockchain in order for me to pay a SOIL and have my ideas jotted down for posterity because i know i forget more than three quarters of the ideas that come up for how to implent dApps on SOIL.

415  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SOIL | Environmental | Agriculture | Quixotic | Hackathon | Contracts on: March 07, 2017, 05:36:23 PM
its refreshing to see that the community has remained strong, and rebuilding SOIL, as a functioning dApp platform as well as a profitable exchange commodity, wont be as difficult as one might think. first things first, we need to have some sort of organized development conglomerate thingy figured out. and we need a functioning website up and running and hosted before any exchange will look at us. bittrex has adjusted their requirements for listing, as well as their avg. daily trade rate (to 0.5 BTC day avg over 7 days). i have submitted the necessary ID information for the "enhanced verified account" and as soon as we have the website back up and running somewhere, we can look at a relisting/relaunch.

my question is how well, especially on average block times, the homestead protocol testnet has been running. the super long block times that occur when a mining farm takes advantage of a small cryptocurrency such as SOILcoin have been devastating. the difficulty adjustment alogithm became a huge problem. the adjustments to difficulty adjustments in the homestead protocol were supposed to have dealt with that.

i think if the homestead testnet has been running well (ill have to build and play with it this evening) then we should discuss if any of the core protocol changes need to be made. 15 second blocktimes, with adjusted transaction scalability, should be kept, in my opinion. ive read the ETH wants to process 3-5 second block times, and that might be a smart option for SOILcoin in the future, especially if we follow along towards the Casper Proof of Stake minting strategy when they have a stable version of that running.

should the block reward increase, considering the low unit valuation presently recorded from bittrex at 46 satoshi? does that value really mean anything anymore? im not sure what the buy/sell walls looked like on bittrex at delisting, but the order book has been scrubbed as far as i understand it. thus, with a low supply and low distribution, hitting the reset button on the exchanges gives this community to move away from a panic sell valuation to a more sustainable currency value.

the present distribution scheme of 1SOIL block reward against a targeted 15second block time gives a projected daily mintage of 5760SOIL a day, or a hair over 2.1 million SOIL annually. with a current circulation of 3.3 million SOIL entirely in investors hands (i have bought back 26k SOIL when it was at 550-700 satoshi, that is the whole of my funds) how we approach near term inflation can be important.

a commitment by the development team to contribute solely to a community hosted mining pool for blockchain hashrate stability would be ideal as well. i have an idea about the use of tokens as a proof of share example that could be used as a subcurrency and setting up an organized and decentralized mining cooperative of that sort may fund a "community funded mining rig" whether that be thru fundraising and community pool shares or via the purchase of a community development fund feeding cloud mining instance may also be the answer to protecting our blockchain from the mining farm attacks while keeping the profits from the pool within the community. pool contributors could choose to pay a higher rate of minted coins back to the foundation fund and be rewarded with higher shares in the "pool token" output.

if there is faith in the operation of SOILcoin under the Homestead protocol, then perhaps a scheduled fork should be set, preparing the updated clients and prepare a relaunch of the SOILcoin community under the Homestead protocol. its a chance to breathe new life into tis currency, and make it a truly community driven project. may 1st, beltane to my faith, is the first day of the summer season. thinking strictly metaphorically, that might be the perfect day to schedule the "relaunch" of SOIL mainnet under the Homestead protocols. what says anybody?

FUNDING some of the things that would quickly push adoption is another issue. simple things such as a registered SOILcoin web address and hosting (my example yesterday of soilco.in was $16CDN, or abt .01BTC. if i can wrangle that from my personal budget, in the next week or so, ill set it up) and to have funded hard nodes (perhaps what any fees from a community mining pool could be used to cover) running to ensure network uptime. many exchanges have quick listing options with the use of BTC. i think it was YoBit that i experienced a nightmare with trying to get us listed, but they may have improved their service since then.

with the funds set up already for listing at novaexchange, id urge getting SOIL listed for community voting at the very least as soon as possible. a twitter campaign for votes may prove fruitful as the threshole for inclusion is only 250 votes and im sure i could talk at least a dozen friends to sign up to nova just to vote for us... its one vote a day per user, so organizing that wont be too hard.

further funding may be in the purview of SOILcoin development team produced dApps that can be monetized towards the overall SOILcoin archtecture. id started building up a SOILcoin resident version of the DGX gold-backed token on ethereum, setting it up as pegged to XPD and XPL (platinum and palladium, respectively) as well as the contacts to cold storage vault providers, etc. lost somewhere in the shuffle of forum posts here is what i wrote last year regarding tokens, or subcurrencies, and the atmosphere for that technology has blossomed since then, with many of those projects subcurrencies being traded on altcoin markets. we should look to those as examples moving forward, but in this rebuild mode we need to get the basic building blocks of our presence rebuilt and available.

i will do what i can to assist in building a new website this week. if anyone want to to donate or fund the purchase of the soilco.in domain name and hosting cost for the first year let me know and we can work out the details. ill try to find the cheapest alternatives, but something that isnt hosted on a freebie website will have a bit more of a professional appeal to it right off the get go.

in building up the new website, a short bio on the people stepping up to work as part of the development foundation for SOILcoin would be a good thing to have. anyone here can always reach me on facebook as Abvhiael Crowley, but ill try to provide more comprehensive contact information on a rebuilt website.

its nice to be healthy enough to be back at work on this, although the urge to dive in and spend 10.. 12 hours researching dApps and implementations and contacts and the like is overwhelming. time to step away a few hours and get some housework done. as before, im not a welathy person and working on SOILcoin isnt really something i eer believed would get me rich, and it remains something i can see as taking a good five years to build out int what i foresaw originally.

i will put in as much time as i humanly can to this community, as i did before. if anyone appreciates a project i present, ill GLADLY take tips in cryptocurrency. my original SOIL developers address at 0xe46731382fbc47621a6c480d4b6118026bbbcb3a remains valid, and my BTC address is 1H3xcVEZqPpAH4m8ULr6eh6aF3kpywc9Rw

anything really DOES help as im on limited funds trying to keep up with the costs of my anticonvulsant medications and therapies. my wife is working, but only getting part time hours (although i can get anyone a great deal on stuff from best buy.... just sayin') i do need to get time in on publishing my waterfalls book, but with sunny skies and high photosensitivity, days such as today, ill be putting in to trying to rebuild SOILcoin.

i want to close with an apology to all who put time and money into this project. i feel like i let everyone down when my health took such a bad turn and i could no longer contribute (or truly function on a day to day basis) i want to rebuild this project into what i had envisioned a year and a half ago, and i welcome anyone who wants to contribute to this project to step forward and join the new development team for SOILcoin.

i think we have a different vision than other cryptocurrencies, and a large number of selling points. this project is far too large for one person, it takes a community to build something that will serve a community. we have a very innovative bit of technology at our fingertips, we can build some amazing projects on it and bring in new developers and projects. we need imagination and determination. we need a strong core and a set of smart contract defined priciples. im still ALL IN on the project. i hope i can make good for those of yu that were left "holding the bag" with SOIL and that we can recoup any losses and turn this around again.

ive given over the twitter account to marty, but we could really use a talented social media coordinator for SOILcoin. im too old to understand it, really, and im sure theres a thousand ways to bring recognition to SOILcoin that i havent thot of yet, so .... IDEAS?

thanks. so far the new medications have been working well and im able to start thinking again, which has been nice. (laughs) drooling idiot and me doesnt work so well. my original foundation address at 0xe46731382fbc47621a6c480d4b6118026bbbcb3a should still work, although i have to update my gsoil software once i hear back from marty as to the state of our protocols.

Sorry haven't followed up in a bit.  Work has been crazy.  I still have the basic website for soil up www.cryptosoil.com, but was having trouble building out some of the links.  I used Weebly to save time, but some simple features seem glitchy and having trouble making direct edits to the code as a work around. I think all we need at this point is to have clean links to the ANN OP, the latest wallets, the BE, and maybe to link to an updated BE bootstrap so new users can get synched faster. I will try fix this week.  If anyone is interested in trying to work on website, PM me.

i can build out a website using the templates i have from the old one with updates from the industry specific stuff in teh OP. would be nice to have a blog on the page as well. part of the problem after peter left was losing the website and trying to build on a free site again.
https://www.one.com/ has a fairly cheap domain registry and hosting, and we could get www.soilco.in for $16 CDN (a little over 0.01BTC)

a solid hosting will allow dApp developers to have their appplications accessible thru the SOILcoin website. (such as SOILex, which could push towards a hosted page at soilco.in )

I'm also in for trying to get community reserve built up again.  Looking forward, could we fork the code so that 5-10% of new blocks goes into a development fund?  This seems to be working really well for DASH.  Their block rewards are mined with a distribution that goes 45% to miners, 45% to masternodes (holders of 1000+ dash can run a masternode) and 10% into community fund.  Masternodes then vote on community projects.  They are able to do a heavy marketing push because they are well funded and able to mobilize with this system of governance.  I think SOIL should transition to a similar approach if possible.  No eth-based coin is doing this yet to my knowledge.

a development fund can also be funded by setting up a benchmark transaction in the blockchain protocol which would mint a specific amount on a regular basis to a wallet with 2of3 multisig protection. this can be used to fund developers or projects or giveaways or whatnot. these benchmarks can also be used to provide protection from the attacks that took down Kr and others, ensuring that the blockchain remains valid by signing off on the developers benchmark fund. the only human requirement on that is dedication to making sure those txs are signed in a timely manner, but im sure a happy medium can be found even there.

Listing on exchange should definitely be the priority. Once up, I'll buy some and donate.   It's kind of crazy SOIL isn't listed.  More work to do, but further along then a lot of other coins that are listed.

its still a very healthy EVM progammable blockchain, and with the developments made on a lot of dApps on ETH and ETC, a great number of smaller projects can be built onto the SOIL architecture to provide those services that were in the original vision. what SOIL *DOES PROVIDE* is a CLEAN BLOCKCHAIN that doesnt have the problem of possible cross-chain interruptions for ETH-ETC based contracts that  may have separate chain originators making calls on contracts on the shared part of the chain. and at the ROCK BOTTOM PRICES that SOIL sits at now, the cost of computational gas has never been cheaper!!

i agree though that we need the exchanges up and running, and i think that we should get the homestead protocols running and have proper executables for new wallets and a functioning and up to date MIST clone, and present a new forked and stable protocol to bring to the exchanges. now that ethereum is a staple cryptocurrency, most of the exchange operators have had experience in setting up ETH-based wallets, which was part of the trouble getting onto a few of the exchanges when we launched... this week ill get up to date on where our protocol is and start to set up exchange campaigns and communications with exchanges again and see where we can get things started up again.

I think its essential to get SOIL back to some exchange. Right now it is not visible anymore at coinmarketcap. I donated some (fraction of) BTC and would go for the direct listing at nova.

ive messaged bittrex regarding the delisting, and when i am up to date at the state of the homestead protocol for SOIL, i doubt having SOIL relisted there will be a problem. the exchange markets have changed a great deal in the last 8 months, with multi-wallet altoin apps with built in exchanges coming out, so there are many new options to explore. a couple further exchanges, even lower volume ones, would be beneficial.

ill see what sort of campaigns we can get set up as i get caught up on the state of the blockchain, and we can make sure to have those regularly updated on the OP by myself or marty.

its a shame that the game ran out but it accomplished what it set outt o do, bringing interest and recognition of UNITS. ive managed to stock up about 300 UNITS and lost about 200 with the -4 or the "you cheated!" error, and it sucks that people were able to automate the game to their advantage, but thats the reality of the cryptocurrency world. hope to see more promotions and such like this, will be definitely watching this currency to see where it goes. i think im more saddened by the fact that i was starting to get addicted to the damn game, although my personal best, at 19 UNITS, was greeted with an error message at the end.

ive  had the same problem with the game and error -4 happening fairly often. ive sent you screenshots on PM via your facebook account. its happening about a third of the time.

im not sure if i should post in this thread or the other one, but its been a long time since ive had the time or brain to be able to look back into cryptocurrency, and id like to start out by apologizing to all of you wh oinvsted in this vision, i didnt abandon SOILcoin because of any lack of faith in the project or my certainty that a project like SOILcoin NEEDS to exist, to explore what we can DO to benefit evryone with blochchain technology.

for the last few months my health has been very bad. my epileptic seizures were multiple times a day and i was hospitalized, more than once, for awhile. evrything suffered. i kept up on my reading as best as i could, the underlying technologies that i still feel SOILcoin can serve. ive been reading a lot about renewable energy technologies and have a lot of ideas how we can leverage the deeper understanding of smart contracts to create some pretty novel things here.

im glad to see that there are community members that want to form a development team to continue on the work of SOILcoin, and id hope that i might remain a part of that vision moving forward. we have already created a number of great things on the SOIL blockchain... a peer to peer token exchange with an underlying lite BTC chain... we integrated MIST into usage pretty quick and it served as a great tool for smart contract deployment...

i have a few ideas regarding the blockchain, how we can secure it using intelligent benchmarks to prevent the sorts of attacks that took down SHF and KR, while providing working capital for the development team. the project was only myself and peter for a long time and i was simply overwhelmed trying to keep up with blockchain improvements, trying to find money for node hosting and website hosting etc. when he left the project, and then.. well, life happened and i got sick.

im presently on medical marijuana for my seizures, and its been helping a lot. im ready to jump back in to the EVM, but i dont have the energy or ability to put twelve to fourteen hour days into it this time around.... im financially fubared. we're scraping by and generally fighting to keep up with bills, and ive got a fight going with the provincial government to cover the costs of my prescription which their fighting back with lawyers and such, but the work for that is done and im in the long waiting game for a court date at the supreme court to force them to comply with a three year old order that theyre resisting, nearly criminally so...

i have a small reserve of SOIL that ive purchased back, when it was still up arund 1000 satoshis, and even though i dont have the sort of computer resources to effectively mine, will involve myself with any pools that come up that are community driven. my understanding of the mechanics of the blockchain remains murky, but if a development team can be rebuilt for this project, if the load can be shouldered by a few rather than just on one set, id like to see SOILcoin spout again.

ive taken some time to really familiarize myself with the changes to the ethereum ecosystem over the past six to eight months, and can see where theres a great number of things we can take from those experiences. id like to work on cross-chain interconnectivity and groundwork dapps ported to the SOIL ecosystem, if those here still think that id be a good voice on the team.
