401  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: STOP telling people how much Bitcoin you have on: February 16, 2024, 09:51:29 PM
You can trust people but have never been so open to them that you need to show how much you own (BTC). Because I believe there should be some gap between our friends and for security reasons, sometimes we need to hide especially when it comes to money. Because it was hard to determine who were really our true friends and who were not, and even in our family members, not all could be trusted. It is better to keep it private rather than let others know besides, we don't need appreciation instead, we need security as we know that not all our friends are happy with our achievements, even some of our family members.
The truth is, you can’t trust people when it comes to money and finances. Because no matter what we say, being greedy is normal for us. It’s just that some other people managed to take control of their greed, but majority still fail to do so. Most especially for bitcoin where it’s value is greater than fiat’s value. It’s still a lot better if you don’t let the people around you know that you have bitcoin in your portfolio. Otherwise, not only you are breaking your privacy, but you are also allowing them to be aware of the amount of investment you are safekeeping which will be put into compromised later on.

Your keys, your coins. You are supposed to keep it privately to protect your anonymity. And while bitcoin remains the most profitable and expensive investment these days, then the more that you will protect its security so that scammers will never have an access to it.

I'm not going to lie, my view of people overall is not very high.  However I don't think it's right to necessarily say that you can't trust anyone.  I for sure wouldn't and don't trust most people.  However if you're not financially savvy, there's nothing wrong with hiring an advisor and placing trust in them, as long as they are doing the right things/good at their profession.

You've also got to make sure you let someone in your family know about your bitcoin, or at least have it written our in your living will stating how to access it, and perhaps how much you have..that way upong your passing your bitocin is not going to the grave with you.
402  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How often do you win? on: February 16, 2024, 09:47:52 PM
As a gambler you should be able to know that lost is mostly recorded in gambling and for that if gambler keeps taking records of whatever activity that is going on within their gambling activity I believe it would either discourage them to keep gambling because when the lost is much more then they won't have that feeling to go gamble anymore though some gamblers doesn't care about their lost for any reason because what they most counts is their future benefits, most people are always optimistic of what could come next or maybe if they quit gambling their is no time something could come or possibly for them to hit their targeted games.
Usually most gambling site do have records of both your loses and your wins so it's very possible to see your records if you want to see them anytime you wish but then it's not a very healthy practice to always check on your losses as it will not do you much good as it will harm you, seeing these records could lead to a whole lot.

You may be tempted to want to chase losses or want to recover all that you have lost going by the record and in some cases it doesn't end so well as you my later on loose even much more than you have lost before you started embarking on your journey to recovery of that which has been lost in cause of gambling all along, it's better you just budget and stick to your budget, that way you will be loosing that which you can afford to loose and it will cause you less stress than it would when you are aware of how much you have lost so far.

I'm curious about the sites that people are using here and how long they actually keep the bets/gambling log for.  I know that the main website/company that I gamble/bet with at the moment has a "transactions" log that you can view all the way up to 3 month prior.  To me that's way too short of a time period.  I haven't tried looking deeper in to it, which I probably should do, so maybe there's more history being saved than easily accessible..but I kind of doubt it.
403  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 16, 2024, 09:44:47 PM
Since he didn't selected, Domantas Sabonis made crazy triple-double averages. He made 18 triple-doubles this season. It's really ridiculous that he wasn't selected. If he played for a Los Angeles team, he would have been selected. When you're in Sacramento, it's tough.

It's time for All-Star Weekend. Tonight Rising Stars game will be played. I don't like the new system at all. I prefer to watch a typical Rookies vs. Sophomores game. NBA should really think about their changes and its impact on the stream. I probably sleep instead of watching the game. Saturday will be fun though. Patiently waiting for the slam dunk contest.

I know that sports leagues such as the NBA and NFL, even the MLB..to a lesser extent have been trying to mix things up a bit and make their respective sports more interesting or entertaining, but like you I liked when the rising stars game was simply Freshman vs Sophomores.  I also don't like how they changed up the All Star game itself, not just the simple East vs West, 4 quarters played.  It's just easier to gamble on the game that way.  Not that it's a very smart weekend to bet, still makes it more exciting.

I haven't even seen who's in the dunk contest, will have to check it out.
404  Economy / Economics / Re: Save while young better than wait on: February 15, 2024, 08:43:53 PM
As a financial advisor is is one of the most important lessons I try teaching my clients, save, save and save some more and do so as early on as you can.  The time value of saving early, and letting compound interest build is immense, and will pay off in the long run.  I meet with so many people whom don't start saving until later on in their career and it almost always turns around to bite them in the ass.  If you wait, you won't have the retirement you want to have, plain and simple (unless you get lucky and inherit money or win the lottery).
405  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vs Monero - Privacy as the world becomes more dystopian on: February 15, 2024, 08:42:53 PM
Monero's recent delisting on a major exchange ( I think it was Binance, but I could be wrong) is proof of why in my humble opinion should NEVER be made entirely anonymous.  This would end bitcoins chance at ever becoming a world wide currency system.  Governments already have a hard enough time accepting it as is, if it were to completely become anonymous, making the blockchain private..nearly every government in the world would shut it down.  More countries haven't shut down the use of Monero in their nation because it's not real popular.  I could go on and on about this, but this is my quick synopsis.
406  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you take time to read the terms and conditions of casinos before registering? on: February 15, 2024, 08:40:57 PM
I have started to do a much better job when it comes to reading the Terms and Conditions for many different outlets, including my online gambling websites.  Some of it is just too difficult and confusing to keep up with, but some of it is really helpful info that I'm glad I found out about before using or further utilizing the gambling platform.

I just wish the TOS were laid out a bit more clearly and less "lawyer speak" like.
407  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why in some religion gambling is forbidden? on: February 15, 2024, 08:40:33 PM
Because religion is largely made up nonsense fairytales that direct people how their rulers want them to act.  Now I'm not saying there aren't some religions with legitimacy, and many do teach good/proper values and ethics, but many don't.  In fact, many religions have been used as a form of control and destructions in past times, Christianity being one of those.

I find it ridiculous that religion would specify whether gambling is okay or not, so this is just my two.
408  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: February 15, 2024, 08:39:18 PM
What a game! So at halftime I was one grumpy sob.  I thought the game started at 6, so I ran some quick errands and I didn't get home until probably 4-5mns in to the game.  I was furious that I missed the Deadpool trailer.  I really wanted to see that live.  Wasn't so bad when I learned it was a short version and the full trailer was on YT (looks awesome btw).  Then Ushers performance on top of a bad game had me moody.  Second have changed all that of course.  What a game.  Mahomes is officially hands down undisputed IMO, the second best to ever play the game.  Even with all that lack of talent on offense, he comes through.

I had like $125 in squares that went bust ( @hueristic, man sorry about the OT.  You had that 4th qtr square otherwise ).  Then I put down whatever was left in my account on the Chiefs ML.  Had me sweating but came out on top.

Now sets in my deep depression and the long wait until next year  Sad

That depression is real.  Pitchers and catchers report soon but it's not the same.  At least the Bears have a heavy interest in the draft that's always fun when your team sucks (I should know as a giants fan ).  Then after that it really goes quiet on the football front.  Anyone gonna watch that new league xfl and some other league mashup?

The one positive if you can call it that with the season being over is indeed the fact that the Bears have the #1 overall pick in the draft, the #9 pick and POTENTIALLY another 1st or 2nd round pick when they trade Justin Fields.  If for some reason the Bears do not pick Caleb Williams at 1, I swear to god I'm done as a Bears fan.  I can't take it anymore and despite all these Justin Fields supporters, Caleb is the right answer

Soo.... it's an exciting time as a Bear fan.

I will legit give the XFL league deal a chance as well.  Anyone know any big names in the league off the top of their head?
If you are a bears fan, you want what is best for the team right? I 100% agree that Justin Fields is not that, and they should trade him to Pittsburgh if they can anything above a round 3 pick. Fields is athletic and worth something, but not a haul.

I also feel like Caleb may be a bust in the NFL if he ends up with Chicago. They really don't know how to manage their team and have never had a decent QB because of this. They won't get him on O line, won't get him protection. He will be running for his life like Fields does. I feel like they need a new GM and a completely new coaching system if they want to get serious about football in Chicago. The old regime is worthless.

Of course I want what's best for the team.  I also fully agree that the guy is no Justin Fields.  I watch games closely, and I'd like to consider myself a decently knowledgeable sports fan, and in particular someone whom knows football pretty well...so I find it difficult hearing from fans who want to keep Fields.  For the most part those fans don't watch the games closely, don't know how to evaluate players outside of getting warm and fuzzy feelings fromt their best plays and not recognizing the other stuff.

To say that the Bears ruin QBs is fair, to some extent, but the Bears have a totally different coaching staff and GM this year than they did for Trubisky, and all the QBs before that.  The GM has done a nice job so far, and coaching has improved.  I just think it's off base to say that they would ruin a QB.  There's no proof of that.  Fields has also improved each year (albeit not as much as many of us would like).

Caleb is considered the best draft prospect since Andrew Luck.  He's hands down the best prospect in this draft, and it's absolutely the most logical pick for the Bear at #1.  Also, to say that they won't get him an O line, I'm not sure what you're basing that off of? Take a look at all of the Bears recent drafts, they've mostly pick O-Lineman in the beginning rounds.  Whether those lineman hit or not, it's impossible to say, but they've been trying to build the O-Line and I'm sure will continue to do so.  Again, this team is under different management entirely across the board than it was just a couple years ago...so using examples from years past is not relevant relevant here today.

Also the Bears aren't the only team whos never had an elite QB.  Its simply that difficult to find one.
409  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When will Bitcoin catch up with Gold in capitalization? on: February 14, 2024, 08:38:49 PM
I was having a conversation with a good buddy about this just a day or two ago.  I've also been preaching about this topic for about a decade at this point...bitcoin and gold are far from the same thing, lumping the two together really just doesn't make sense.  Gold is used for a lot of "real world" things such as for electronics, automobiles and jewelry.  It's a precious metal, where bitcoin is an electronic payment system.  Comparing the two or expecting bitcoin to catch up with golds "capitalization" I think just shows how too many people still see bitcoin as a gold replacement, which it's just not.
410  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: STOP telling people how much Bitcoin you have on: February 14, 2024, 08:34:25 PM
I appreciate all the replies.  I didn't expect for this thread to get so much attention but I'm glad it has since this is a very serious topic in my humble opinion, and I just see too many members coming and divulging such private information so frequently.  Hopefully this thread is a good lesson for some.

I've also seen a couple people mention Andreas...again, if you aren't familiar with the work Andreas has done for bitcoin I HIGHLY recommend checking it out.

People frequently ask "How many bitcoin do you have?" once they find out you're into bitcoin simply because they can't really grasp the "moneyness" factor of it; instead, they think it's some collectible like some rare Pokemon cards hence why they probably think it's fine to ask.

My favorite go-to line when asked about my bitcoin, goes like this:

them: "how many bitcoin do you have?"
me: "how much money do you have in your bank account?"

and then and there it'll click in their heads. I've heard this answer on a podcast/interview in the past, I think it was Erik Voorhees? Not sure.

Lol that's a pretty good response, I plan on using this going forward.

It is funny how often people ask how much Bitcoin you have.  You can tell that they don't believe it's real money.  That question is usually followed up by how you can actually buy anything with it.  Talking to most folks, you'd think that sending BTC to an exchange to have cash sent to your bank account is some sort of wizardry that is beyond the grasp of the common man.  Having these types of discussions with people really does cement it into your brain how insanely early we still are to this crypto thing.  How many bitcoins do you own?

Lol, I know, it's just funny how people think and how uneducated so many are.  It's a reminder that people simply don't take the time to learn things, no matter how "goofy" or "wizardly" like things may seem to them.

412  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 14, 2024, 08:27:22 PM
I can't believe that the NBA All-Star Weekend is already upon us.  It just feels crazy how fast time is flying by this NBA season.  I've enjoyed the first half, other than the ugly job my own team is doing (Chicago Bulls).  Now sitting at 26-28 on the year..they are still the NBA's most popular team in terms of ticket sales.  I mean this is crazy to me, and also goes to show why they suck and will likely continue to suck and make NO MOVES before the trade deadline like they should have..when you sell more tickets than any other team, where is the motivation to do thing differently?  Just disgusts me.
413  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will AI Take over the Position of VAR? on: February 14, 2024, 08:24:07 PM
I harp about this all the time, and I probably wont stop..but I think it's an important topic and distinction that needs to be made here.  AI does not exist, yet.  This is simply advanced programming.  There's no artificial learning going on here.  The programs are human made and controlled, they are programs that often use a "mash-up" of data, organize it and then spit it back out.  This type of tech would be utilizing tech we already have.

If you don't believe me or agree, don't take my word for it- https://www.newyorker.com/science/annals-of-artificial-intelligence/there-is-no-ai
414  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin commercials on: February 13, 2024, 05:27:51 PM
This is awesome, thanks for sharing! A big thing Hhampuz and I were talking about during the Super Bowl on Sunday was when we were going to see some sort of bitcoin or cryptocurrency commercial.  A group of us were chatting about it and we thought at the very least there would be a commercial for one of the new bitcoin ETFs.  As far as I know, unless anyone else saw something different, there weren't any crypto related commercials at all.  Was a bit disappointing.
415  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / STOP telling people how much Bitcoin you have on: February 13, 2024, 05:25:44 PM
I just wanted to share a piece of advice that I learned early on from Andreas Antonopoulos (if you don't know whom this is, I highly recommend looking up his YouTube page and watching his videos and or reading his book Mastering Bitcoin) never tell anyone how much bitcoin you have.  Andreas use to say it's not our job to teach everyone we know about bitcoin, letting them know we own some "Let that be my job" he would say.

I see so many people that come around here sharing how much bitcoin they own...don't.  Just like any of your finances such as your portfolio or how much your annual salary is..it's no one's business but your own.  Being transparent about these things can be harmful to you in a multitude of ways.  As an advisor this is something I tell my clients all the time.  Your financial info is private and should always remain that way.  I hate these new social media trends where people walk up to strangers on the street and ask things like "how much do you pay in rent" or "how much money do you make a year"...ignore them!
416  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: This was my highest risk. on: February 13, 2024, 05:20:52 PM
I've never bet anything so large that I would end up in a much worse position than I started in.  I know serious gamblers, or more so professional gamblers, which I think is the more appropriate word, tend to take such large risks, but it's part of their game/job and it's just how they have to bet to make it work as a career.  This is why unless you're that, I just wouldn't ever recommend doing something of this nature.
417  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If I bet big I lose, but if I bet small I win on: February 13, 2024, 05:17:49 PM
It's just the psychology of it all.  I swear the same thing seemingly happens to me all the time.  I always feel so confident during the NFL season , but I normally just make small bets.  I never get "in over my ski's", so to speak.  Then when it comes to actually putting down some sizable money on games, I swear I always lose.  Despite the past weekend where I got a nice win for the Super Bowl, otherwise, I feel ya.
