4001  Bitcoin / Hardware / [Archive] BFL trolling museum on: June 17, 2012, 09:27:32 PM
Anyone believes this is true???

I don't think it's a matter of IF BFL can produce an ASIC. It's a matter of WHEN, and in what quantities.

No, I mean if anyone believes the price:performance ratio is true. To achieve that kind of performance with this price I see two possibilites:

a) they invented something noone else has (very little probability, but they will be rich if it's true)
b) they got a really good deal, be it legal or illegal

4003  Other / Meta / Re: MOD Enforced Marketplace Rules on: June 16, 2012, 12:38:22 PM
As with every other forum on the planet that has a marketplace, we need to adopt a few simple 'Marketplace New Thread Creation' stipulations/conditions that when/if not met, result in a Deleted Thread.

...Rule #1 being:

LIST WHERE YOU ARE SHIPPING FROM OR WHERE YOU ARE FROM

/end

I must admit it's annoying when sellers or buyers assume everyone US is the only country in the world. I won an auction once, the seller mentioned free shipping everywhere but then decided that he won't ship to Europe after I had won the auction. It was a very little amount and we came to an agreement but a bitter taste remains.

I thought that was a driver limit and not a motherboard limit?

It can be a mobo limit, an OS limit or a driver limit.

Russia vs Poland tomorrow, the referee comes from Germany, what do you think? Who will win?

Russia, undeniably. Polish team maybe has 1 or 2 good players and a bad coach.
4008  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: June 10, 2012, 09:36:47 PM

was this an attempt to get your kids interested in mining?

Or smuggle a new toy into the kids' room because all other rooms are already full with overheating rigs.

Not sure if the EMR is healthy though.
4009  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Intel HD Graphics 4000? on: June 08, 2012, 04:01:08 PM
I just bought a Thinkpad with this new graphics chip, and apparently, it's OpenCL capable. Has anyone tried running a miner on it yet? If so, what are the numbers like?

It's not even a proper gpu, would be worth with 48xx with free/stolen electricity, otherwise you'll be losing money. Anything lower than that and you are also losing your time.
4010  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Mt.Gox AML/KYC Process Explained on: June 08, 2012, 03:43:31 PM
Hi Everyone,

My name is Dylan, and I work in Mt.Gox's Compliance Division.

Okay, three questions:

1) Why not move MtGox somewhere with no or lax AML laws? Isn't Japan expensive anyway?
2) While I understand Korean/Arabic/Hebrew may be difficult, learning to read Cyrillic script is by no means an impossible task, took me a week after studying for... 5 minutes a day. Unless you don't mind covering translation costs which you should be doing I don't see how that should be a problem for you.
3) Proof of residence - what about those who do not have a fixed place of residence? I know this is probably not very common but I have a friend without an ''official'' place of residence (meaning most govt. officials here think he is homeless) who is interested in Bitcoin, what would he have to submit to comply with your rules?
4011  Other / Off-topic / Re: I think I have a severe case of Bitcoinitis - help! on: June 08, 2012, 09:26:41 AM
So I'm not the only one :/

Hope bitcoin goes mainstream, maybe I will stop being perceived as a freak by some.

Tongue

What's your gender...? And how much to rent it for a month? Is escrow possible?
4013  Economy / Gambling / Re: MMM-2011 hugest Ponzi scheme :: Bitcoins accepted on: June 02, 2012, 05:18:24 PM
I haven't entered it but from what I've heard from people in MMM-2011 it is not falling apart, and only the media says so.
Doesn't mean it can't fall apart at any time soon.
4014  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of Bitcoin Companies with Adequate Backup--Please Submit on: May 30, 2012, 01:39:34 PM
What this really comes down to is that for the list to be of any value, there needs to be a list of Bitcoin businesses who have an independent audit.

+1

Best by someone known and trustworthy in bitcoin community as well as paid by that bitcoin business to carry out that audit.
4015  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trust No One on: May 29, 2012, 03:53:58 PM
You should never say this this sort of stuff to anyone. I once managed to guess someone's password by asking them what's a good password  Tongue
Well, my addition was not true either (or was it? you never know!)
It was just for demonstration purposes.
Either way, I'm willing to bet a million BTC that even if I would reveal the actual basic construction of my password to anyone (which I won't), they wouldn't be able to guess/hack/crack/bruteforce it in a lifetime Smiley

Well you still have given little info but search results are definitely narrowed. Now assuming there was someone who knew you personally outside the forums that person would have easier work.
4016  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of Major Bitcoin Heists, Thefts, Hacks, Scams, and Losses on: May 29, 2012, 09:10:05 AM
I was debating whether to add that one (it was knightmb's "purchase" of 300000 BTC). However, the business partner did receive what he was looking for, which was $5000.

+1

I think you could also add in parenthesis how much were the Bitcoin in each case worth at the time of scam/theft/loss
4017  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of Bitcoin Companies with Adequate Backup--Please Submit on: May 28, 2012, 10:28:29 PM

Glad to hear, if you are unsure whom to trust I suggest you contact one of the moderators or admins here, not everyone is technically competent and trustworthy.

Meanwhile, I'll check your site with nmap + w3af + my brain & google Wink
4018  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Where can I find an anarchy? on: May 28, 2012, 05:25:39 PM
So true.  Somalia does not need to make the mistake of the Europe or the United States again.  Governments start out protecting the people, in the end they steal from the people.  I did notice there is still law in Somalia.  If you lived in a gated community and your business had guards Somalia would be better off without any government.
In the article you guys are basing all the Somali optimism on, it clearly says that Somalia is living off remittances.  Its people are having to go abroad to work in countries that have governments and send money home.
That is not something they are happy with.  It explains why there is a large Somali population in London - they like having a state.

4019  Economy / Auctions / Re: Get a BFL Single without the long wait! (Falling Price Auction - No Min) on: May 28, 2012, 02:37:18 PM
Ah, I'm paying $.07/KWH so I'm not quite at the stage of having FPGAs/BFLs being cost effective. The only reason I would want one, is because my house is quite hot, and I can't mine because of it. My house hits 90 degrees pretty frequently, and is at 86-88 at all times, so I don't want to add the extra heat. If I found a good deal on a lot of mining equipment, Id probably rent a building just to run them.

I think at these temperatures your single will be overheating and start to throttle. I don't own one but someone from BFL mentioned optimal temperature in which Singles should operate without throttling is 72F / 22C.

Be nice to put this on the wiki at https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Main_Page

Toby.

Terrible idea. This is the last thing bitcoin newbies have to see when getting to know bitcoin. Wallet security already implies enough.

Quarter of a million BTC? Small peanuts I say. Only $1,2 million at current rates.

Considering that most loss the BTC lost/stolen were from summer last year when BTC was worth 2-3x as it is now, the actual amount people lost is substantially higher.
