It does look familiar. However, I don't believe in a long slow slide, that one was boring. This time bitcoin should play something more exciting, a long period of uncertainty maybe where bulls and bears would be playing king of the hill on a monthly rotation? Just like stock market, only wilder. That would be fun.

Everyone who dumped their bitcoins now has $ in their mt.gox account - they believed in bitcoin enough to invest in bitcoin in the first place and they will buy back again at some point.
If they made money, they will want to make more. If they lost money they will want to get their money back.
Actually at this point I am thinking about withdrawing all my funds. If the value drops too much I fear the exchanges might run with the money. Bitinstant disabling paypal withdrawl also speaks books. All this pointless market intervention actually makes things worse. |

Selling Put options underneath Oil and buying up lots of stocks on the cheap. I kept selling the put options and when the bounce came, I raked in a massive amount of cash. Guess what, anything of value never goes to zero.
 You've got a god damn weighty set of brass ones if you really did that. Kudos. Naked, or covered, though?  i sold naked puts on /cl just before the start of 2009, sold the $40 strike price, about 3 months out. Heaps of premium was in them, and it all eroded very quickly. I knew that there was no chance it would get lower than $30 and even if it did, I'd be happy to own it at that price because I know that when people are fearful, you need to be greedy. Except the world runs on oil. |

I would imagine the people who get hurt on this are the idiots who tried to jump on the bandwagon.
Bitcoin peeps should be smart enough to
A) realize the bitcoin will rebound, which is is doing, like crazy right now
B) not panic sell (let the traders who just got here take the beating)
C) Don't leave your coins in a market with a market price sell order and no stop order
