4041  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Freebitco Rigged HI LO Expose (Scam) on: April 24, 2018, 01:12:16 PM
You don't understand the point of this post here,if you change client seeds (your own client seeds) for every roll YES the roll cannot be manipulated. But if you play this game on auto betting or normal and not change clients seeds,

You could use a dice bot to change the seed every roll if you want to or use the "RANDOMIZE CLIENT SEED" feature on our auto bet.

you will lose for sure , just matter of time.

That's untrue.

And how you will explain the scam result above video ?? i roll 9186 but the result is different ?? I'm sure now you will asking my id for checking, but wait until im get all my btc back from freeroll, then i'll public my id here for checking because i know after i public my id, the owner freebitco will ban immediately .

That doesn't make any sense. I scanned through that video and there was nothing showing a wrong result or a 9186 roll. Maybe you posted the wrong video. Try making it short and to the point next time. Anyway, how can you get your BTC back from a free roll?
I wasn't going to ask for your ID and we certainly don't ban people for making misformed incorrect videos.
4042  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Freebitco Rigged HI LO Expose (Scam) on: April 24, 2018, 12:02:13 PM
So you know every roll the freebitco(owner) site have secret ''Server Seed''  and they give us only ''server seed hash'',<--- the server seed hash is useless, it not related any caculator result roll.

This is where you went wrong. The hash proves that the seed is genuine and therefore the roll cannot be manipulated. As you found your way to the Bitcoin Forum you are in a good place to learn how cryptography works.
4043  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.S. Regulators Send Tether and Bitfinex Subpoenas on: April 24, 2018, 10:44:27 AM
Yes the story seems to have gone completely, but feels that its gonna be hanging over our heads for awhile.

As for bitfinex moving to switzerland and not being within the jurisdiction of the USA, google the  liberty reserve which operated out of Costarica.
 Its honestly got a lot of similarities with tether, and assuming that tether is backed 1 to 1 with dollars somewhere, the liberty reserve case shows that it could very easily still get shut down for money laundering.

Heres the wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_Reserve.

The article I linked to above makes the comparison with Liberty Reserve as well.
https://blog.bitmex.com/tether/

Also rember reading an article somewhere which stated that around 350 million was seized from accounts belonging to bitfinex in poland.

The article was incorrect. That was a payment processing company that Bitfinex no longer use.

I remember when I started out in 2013 newbies where only restricted to certain sections -- is this still the case? It seemed to work rather well back then.

I had to go through Newbie Jail as well. It was done away with a long time ago but I don't why that was as I wasn't really following Meta at that time.
4045  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.S. Regulators Send Tether and Bitfinex Subpoenas on: April 24, 2018, 09:47:33 AM
But they don't. They closed access to anyone residing in the US but even that isn't a legal definition of 'operating in'. For example, I reside in the UK and trade on the CME. The CTFC regulates the CME, not the UK FCA. It is where the exchange is located not the customers.

Oh, I didn't know they closed up shop in the US. I'm very confused, but it does look like the CTFC has, or at least had, some authority over them as they have been fined in the past despite being based in Hong Kong:

https://www.cftc.gov/PressRoom/PressReleases/pr7380-16

Maybe it depends on the industry?

They told all US based customers to close their accounts late last year.

TBH I just don't get how the US thinks it has jurisdiction over the entire world. Does that mean that every Futures Commission Merchant (FCM) anywhere in the world has to register with the CTFC? For example, if I was to open an account with a UK broker using a UK FCM to trade LIFFE futures, what business is that of the US?

Edit:
A couple more thoughts about that. Bitfinex moved the company registration to the British Virgin Islands after that case. Maybe there's some Hong Kong - US based agreement they were in breach of. It also stands out that the fine was only $75,000 which in CTFC terms is peanuts and makes it as serious as a parking ticket. This new subpoena could easily be as irrelevant.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0

What are the time limits on posting and the levels??
I know 360 seconds are for new people like me, but was wondering if there was break down somewhere on this.

Code:
waittime = 360;
if(activity >= 15)
        waittime = (int)(90 - activity);
if(activity >= 60)
        waittime=(int)(34.7586 - (0.0793103 * activity));
if(activity >= 100)
        waittime = max((int)(14-(activity/50)), 4);

As your activity level increases the wait time between post will reduce dramatically. It is a restriction to slow down the spambots.
4047  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.S. Regulators Send Tether and Bitfinex Subpoenas on: April 24, 2018, 09:18:29 AM
I don't think that there will ever be any information with regards to this thanks to their company policy:

“We routinely receive legal process from law enforcement agents and regulators conducting investigations,” Bitfinex and Tether said Tuesday in an emailed statement. “It is our policy not to comment on any such requests.”

I was more surprised that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission doesn't have to go public.

Regarding jurisdiction, wouldn't they be able to exercise at least some authority because they operate within their country? They could probably be barred from doing so if they don't comply.

But they don't. They closed access to anyone residing in the US but even that isn't a legal definition of 'operating in'. For example, I reside in the UK and trade on the CME. The CTFC regulates the CME, not the UK FCA. It is where the exchange is located not the customers.

I'm not a fan of Bitfinex and Tether, but I'm more inclined to believe that this is routinary considering how the story broke late and how quiet it has been since then. Tether is worth billions, and if it has been proven to be a scam, I doubt they'll be able to keep it under wraps. Probably just people making a mountain out of a molehill.

This is the most balanced view I've seen about what is really going on with Tether.
https://blog.bitmex.com/tether/

There's no doubt the US would rather it didn't exist and will try and find ways to shut it down, but there's no evidence it is a scam.
4048  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestions to improve the forum and limit shitposting - the easy way on: April 24, 2018, 08:58:31 AM
Limiting the number of posts isn't going to help. Most of the shitposting comes from bounty signature campaigns. They usually only have a requirement of 20 or 25 posts a week but people farm them with hundreds of accounts. The best way to stop it is to get rid of the ICO campaigns. They just create the tokens they pay with out of thin air so it is all free advertising to them and that means they don't care about the quality. The throw enough shit against a wall and some of it will stick theory. Other than that a stricter moderation policy and banning spammers would help although it would need more moderators to do it.
4049  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I got merits, lots of them - do you want some?? on: April 24, 2018, 08:14:43 AM
OP, Why is proper English a requirement for Merit? I have seen 1000s of posts on this forum with proper English, but it adds little to the discussion. I give merit for constructive posts that adds value to the discussions. You can write a Wall of Text, with proper English and it still adds no value.

There are plenty of posts written in English so poor it is impossible to understand the point they are trying to make. That has to be a barrier to receiving merit. Of course there are plenty of posts written in good English that also have no value but that doesn't mean that if someone posts on the English language sections then a minimum level of competence in the language is required. I wouldn't dream of using Google translate and then posting the result on a local board.

The English language requirement for some sections on this forum is acceptable, because it is a universal and popular language.  Out of the world's approximately 7.5 billion inhabitants, 1.5 billion speak English — that's 20% of the Earth's population. However, most of those people aren't native English speakers. About 360 million people speak English as their first language.

http://www.stgeorges.co.uk/blog/learn-english/how-many-people-in-the-world-speak-english

I know it isn't that relevant but those numbers a well out of date. That site uses a 12 year old book as a source. The population of US is now 325.7 million, UK 65.6 million exceeds that even before the other 65 nations that have English as the official language are added.

So if 80% of the rest of the world speak other languages, should we exclude them from our main Bitcoin discussions?

Also the use of "3rd world poster" as a derogatory labelling of non-English posters are simply wrong. Would you say, Italian and German people are "3rd world posters", because they do not use English as their first language?   Sad

I've met people on here that I didn't even realise were not native English speakers until they told me. Others I just can't understand what they are trying to say. Nobody wants to exclude anyone from the main Bitcoin discussion based on nationality but there is a minimum ability in the English language required to make a meaningful contribution.
4050  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: April 24, 2018, 07:27:36 AM
He is a bit harsh, but he got a point as one should have the option to have his account details removed from the database. I don't care about it on almost website I'm registered with, but I know that many do.

We don't hold any personal information and even an email address is optional. You can't get your account deleted from this forum either.

This one just wanted to troll because they are upset about having reduced rewards.

4051  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.S. Regulators Send Tether and Bitfinex Subpoenas on: April 24, 2018, 07:21:51 AM
Presumably the results of the CFTC inquiry will be made public? Is there an estimated timeline?

this is not something that will be finished in a short time! there will be a lot of lengthy legal debate between the two sides and they will prolong it as much as they can and meanwhile continue operating the way they were before.
not to mention that bitfinex is planning on moving to Switzerland which may even make things a lot easier for them to win the subpoena!

This story went quiet very quickly, there still doesn't seem to be any firm information as to what the subpoena is for. It is also quite difficult to see how the Commodity Futures Trading Commission of the US has any jurisdiction over foreign exchanges even before moving to Switzerland.
4052  Other / Meta / Re: Merit became a business. What to do? on: April 23, 2018, 05:05:53 PM
Is there any such clear statement available? Can you please quote it?

It's the lack of a statement to the contrary. Nothing has been added to the forum rules. IIRC the Merit sources see a warning on their merit page telling them that they are not allowed to trade it. The fact that the rest of us don't get any warning means there is no firm rule.
4053  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: April 23, 2018, 04:37:20 PM
Okay - Just an update on my Reward Points redemption .

I got my egifter.com coupon which I test-redeemed ( to my mail ID) . So it works .. My only grouch is that it came after almost 3 weeks after I redeemed.  ( I understand ( hear) that the admin at freebitco.in is super busy )
Thanks 'TheQuin' for being patient on my nagging request . Smiley
My trust quotient went up one notch.

Thank you for confirming that. Sorry again for the delay, wetsuit is away on business at the moment and hasn't been able to get online much. The processing of the redemptions is done manually and quite a lot of work. Normally we are able to do it weekly but this was just a case of bad timing.
4054  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: April 23, 2018, 03:39:21 PM
Ok, So I presume that the owner is Male? <because you used the word, He>  Wink

I have to confess I haven't asked that but it is usually my default assumption on the internet that everyone is either a dude or a dude pretending to be a chick. /jk

Let's fire away and see if he would want to respond to some of the questions. I will not ask anything that will compromise his

real identity.  Wink

1. Is the Faucet a huge profit drain on the whole operation after advertisements were stopped? {rough percentages?}

2. What is the biggest expense for the site? {Faucet pay-out or referrals or hosting fees and Admin cost?}

3. Do you have redundancy? {Backup plans if something goes wrong?}

4. How difficult is it to stop the bots? {I know from experience that they are a pain in the ass.}

5. What percentage of new users stay active? {My referral drop-off is about 100% in only 1 or 2 months}

That is all for now, he can pick what is too private or inconvenient to answer, but I steered away from being to personal.  Wink

I will pass those questions on but wetsuit isn't about much at the moment so it could be a while before I get any answers. I also wouldn't expect too much information on the financial side of things as that's understandably confidential. There is a bit of information you can see on the stats page. The chart "BITCOINS WON IN THE LAST 10 DAYS" shows gross winnings including free-rolls. The chart "WAGERED IN THE LAST 10 DAYS" shows how much was bet so statistically, you could assume with a 5% house edge that would make 5% of that figure the gross income. As well as the faucet that also has to fund the lottery as most tickets we give away, then the reward points, referral payments and then hosting etc.

I can answer #4.

It's impossible to actually detect them anymore as they have become so sophisticated they look more like humans than actual humans do now. That's why we ended up having to lower the rewards. The botnets buy captcha solves and if we pay more than the price they pay then there's a profit to be made by them.

#5 Speaking personally I've got 517 referrals and about 25 of them have been active a very long time. I think there's just a lot of luck involved there.

If you didn't just hack that account and it is really is yours then the post history indicates you were one hell of a spammer.  Cheesy

I'd give it up.

4057  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto trading time vs Olde Worlde trading time on: April 23, 2018, 01:44:29 PM
That's the ridiculous part about the old economy - it's not 24/7. How can you have a non-24/7 in a globalized, bot-controlled financial market? Makes no sense to me.

There is off-hours trading, so some traditional markets run 24/7. Forex runs 24/7. But it's true that in traditional markets like stocks and most commodities, you need to account for gaps. Lots of day traders close positions at the end of the week to avoid weekend shenanigans and surprise Monday spikes.

Forex markets do close for the weekend so they are 24/5 generally. The NYSE has extended hours pre-market trading 4:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and post-market trading from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Then there are also futures markets, eg. CME S&P 500 futures only close for 1hr so trade 23/5.

I don't really think this actually makes any difference other than the psychological effect of gaps that occur when a market reopens after a close period are absent from crypto markets.

Would be easier for non technical based users

This is the "Bitcoin > Development & Technical Discussion" board so it is appropriate to assume that anyone reading has some basic technical knowledge.
4059  Other / Meta / Re: It's no wonder we are infested with bounty and airdrop spammers on: April 23, 2018, 12:11:01 PM
The problem I can see is that they would just sign up another 10 alts, copy paste with them and then report their own alts. Thus gaining their main account that got banned back.
I thought of that, that's why the accounts they report need to have a higher activity than their own. It's not worth spamming with 10 new accounts, just to get one back.

My bad. I missed that higher activity thing. Might work but I'm not sure that most of these people are really likely to put any work into something. There might be a few exceptions where someone just wasn't aware they need to link to the original source.
4060  Other / Meta / Re: It's no wonder we are infested with bounty and airdrop spammers on: April 23, 2018, 11:49:03 AM
Suggestion to earn an unban after plagiarism:
What if someone who is banned for plagiarism can earn an unban by redeeming themselves reporting others? If someone reports 10 accounts (with more activity than their own account) for plagiarism, I suggest to give him another chance. This could lead to a growing number of cheaters competing to find other cheaters, nicely cleaning up the forum.
Thoughts?

The problem I can see is that they would just sign up another 10 alts, copy paste with them and then report their own alts. Thus gaining their main account that got banned back.
