4101  Economy / Economics / Re: Europe's drought the worst in 500 years on: August 25, 2022, 10:23:02 AM
I can only say that this year will really be remembered for the really big drought, which started during the winter because in some parts of Europe there was no snow at all, and then it continued with an extremely dry spring, and culminated in a catastrophically dry summer. It is true that many rivers are at record low levels and that some long-hidden secrets have surfaced for the first time since the Second World War, and that agriculture in some countries has been severely affected.

However, this is not something that happened overnight, it is a process that has been going on for at least two decades, as long as I have been following climate change, although the situation with dry years and rising temperatures has intensified in the past 10 years. Considering the war and inflation, the drought could not have come at a worse time because food prices have risen even more.

And how to change things for the better is a question for the whole world, not only for Europe. Some say that it is a natural process, but people with their behavior certainly have a big part in all of this, and if we don't all start to change, we shouldn't expect things to get better.

Rember how Salvador was going to save trillions of quadrillions in WU fees?

Maybe in 100 years of using Bitcoin? Estimates were that this would save around $400 million a year, although data from the Central Bank of El Salvador say that only 1.6% of all foreign currency remittances were sent through what they call "digital wallets". Regardless of the alternative offered by Bitcoin, the average emigrant from ES who sends money home still chooses more familiar and simpler methods, which means that people trust banks and the centralized system more.
4103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We are all Hodlonaut on: August 25, 2022, 09:18:13 AM
I'd mentioned before that a few exchanges host the whitepaper, and a quick test shows that those links are still available from a UK IP address. Wonder why CSW hasn't gone after them like he went after Cobra for hosting it?

That question can only be answered by him or maybe by those who make real moves from the shadows and use Faketoshi as their main tool in this dirty game. Obviously, the time when a lawsuit will be filed is carefully chosen, and it seems that the time of the bear market is judged to be the best because then there is the least focus on Bitcoin, unlike the bull run.

It would certainly be good to see the likes of Coinbase step up here and actually support bitcoin for once, instead of always undermining it for the sake of their own profits. The more defeats CSW racks up then the better for their own legal teams, and it is good publicity for them to be seen to be supporting the community too.

It would be really nice if they did something, although like some others, I don't really have high hopes that they as a company care too much about Bitcoin in the sense that they would defend it from Faketoshi. Of course, profit always comes first, even if it means they have to enter into a pact with the devil - but let's hope that reason will prevail this time.

I'm still surprised Binance hasn't been tagged yet. You know what they say about a drowning soul, he will cling even at a straw for survival.

As far as I saw, CZ showed support for the @Hodlonaut, and even mentioned some kind of fund that could be established for cases like this, of course under the auspices of his company.

You remind me of this one user, his departure is highly expected by most cheaters and scammers, so he is really a concern for rule breakers. Because Lauda was such an important member, his passing will always be remembered [that's what I think].

Yes, after all, such users were valuable assets for the forum in the fight against scammers and spammers for many years, and I personally participated in 2 signature campaigns managed by Lauda and both were at the highest level, similar to today's CM. Therefore, my opinion is that we should not look at how good/bad a user is towards someone individually, but how good he is for the forum as a whole.

I can somehow relate when I first started I even recall earning some shit tokens back in 2017 which was my year of starting in crypto.--- I kinda wished I experienced those years in crypto in your perspective, but hey since I went full Bitcoin holder, it is never too late to buy one. Cheesy

A lot has changed since then, even when it comes to the faucets with which I actually earned my first Bitcoin. Back then, there were no irritating short links and claiming rewards was quite simple, but also very fast if you used a good faucet rotator - in less than 1 hour you could earn at least 100 000 satoshis, and with active referrals, even 500 000 satoshis per day. I remember a Russian site that was something like a PTC with faucets, and there I often used to get 200 000 satoshis in one click - which of course was not much considering the price of Bitcoin in those days of only $200+.
4105  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BetChain Casino scammed me on: August 24, 2022, 02:34:05 PM
They have a good rating and I read reviews about them before playing there.

Have you heard about fake reviews? Anyone can write countless reviews that are only positive and publish them anywhere on the Internet, and this does not mean that a company has a good reputation. Did you read the reviews from the Trustpilot link in my previous post? 100% negative, although only nine entries.

Regardless of everything, you should know that you can always expect problems with any online casino when it comes to payouts - although 4+ LTC seems a really ridiculous amount and it's unbelievable that they give you so many problems about it.

Window 10 Pro is what was installed.
No I did not purchase it directly from Microsoft, all my pc softwares and OS are always installer by my pc repairer and this was my first time of experiencing such issue. What I don't know is if he directly got the OS from Microsoft or not. Will have to ask him that tomorrow.

Don't trust anyone, learn to install the OS yourself because it's not something that requires great expertise - and you can download W10 from the official Microsoft site, and (if nothing has changed) use it for free with some minor restrictions. Furthermore, do not base your security on any desktop hot wallet, and you should also be careful about which websites you visit and what you download to your computer.

In addition to all that, it would be good if you have one of the better (paid) AV, because maybe just such software will protect you from computer infection in a moment of carelessness. Last but not least, do not save your wallet backup in digital form if it is not protected (encrypted), it is a big risk and you should avoid it.
4107  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: How to buy and sell Bitcoin ? on: August 24, 2022, 10:54:18 AM
I am a digital Monk, and I do have complete knowledge about everything Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency.

You have complete knowledge and you ask the question that complete beginners ask? If you thought you were smarter than some members of this forum, then you were wrong, whatever you tried failed sooner than you thought.
4108  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We are all Hodlonaut on: August 24, 2022, 10:33:46 AM
I'm not 100% sure, but even if you think CSW has had no impact on any developers yet, it is easy to see how one or more developers could decide to protect themselves from his litigation by either reactively or preemptively cease their involvement with bitcoin. It is clear CSW is being bankrolled by Calvin Ayre, and therefore has the whole CoinGeek entity and its employees doing his bidding and repeating/publishing what they are told to.

It seems to me that Faketoshi is just a pawn in a much bigger game, and that someone else is making moves in an attempt to cause as much damage to Bitcoin as possible. Faketoshi has never seemed very intelligent to me, so sometimes I suspect that all this he is doing is not his idea. However, no matter how hard they try, they should be aware that by attacking any person who supports Bitcoin and the truth, they are attacking thousands or even millions of others who will not bow their heads and give up the fight.

Cobra perhaps best described how it will all end one day.

I believe at some point the COPA case will prove Wright perjured himself in obtaining this judgement and order. Hopefully in the next few years he'll be brought to justice. We live in a stupid world where people can get locked away for years for relatively minor offences like drug possession, however people like Wright can just continue on abusing the courts with no real consequences. It sucks that me, hodlonaut, McCormack, and various Bitcoin developers have to deal with this nonsense, but truth will prevail in the end and liars like him can never succeed in trying to stop Bitcoin's success no matter how hard they try.

I just checked @hodlonaut twitter and it looks like Faketoshi has started attacking some famous CEX as well.

4109  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Buying a Hardware Wallet in US on: August 24, 2022, 10:06:54 AM
No need to worry about my reasons  Smiley, there's no safety or privacy issue here, only my trip will last 1 week and I don't have an US adress to send from official source.
I'll think about it, but I thought (as I already said above) maybe some stores in US sell hardware wallets like Best Buy.
---

I remembered that sometime in the past I saw the information that Ledger HW can be bought at Walmart, and you can choose the option if you want the product delivered to you or if you want to pick it up in a physical store. I'm not sure if it works all over the US, but if you see a Walmart store, it doesn't cost anything to go inside and check if they have HW on the shelf - or to send them an inquiry via e-mail.

Yeah, they went for the capital cities, which is really stupid:
---
Let's compare a city of 600k with one of 24 million and ignore that New York alone has more than anyone on that list.

Yes, that's what I suspected, because the US certainly has far more places where you can pay with crypto, but everything else doesn't have much logic and it seems that all these companies just want to promote themselves with this kind of amateurish, almost meaningless research. In addition to these two reports, there is another one that mentions some other countries in the sense that they are "crypto ready nations", and there we see some other countries that are not mentioned at all in these two reports. If someone were to take 10 different approaches, I'm sure they could get 10 different lists with quite different results.

Worldwide crypto readiness is defined based on the number of blockchain startups in each country, the digital asset legislations and taxation rules, the number of ATMs, and the interest in the industry per capita.

Hongkong - 8.6 points out of 10
USA - 7.7 points out of 10
Switzerland - 7.5 points out of 10
Georgia
UAE
Romania
Croatia
Ireland
Czech Republic
Slovakia, Greece, Panama & Bulgaria shared 10th position.
4111  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Coincity-ex.com: is it a scammer? on: August 23, 2022, 02:54:38 PM
I can be wrong, but after looking at that site, it was pretty hard to navigate, the wording seemed strange to me, the proceeds seems relatively high... All in all, i'm pretty sure this is a scam. You're free to do whatever you want, but if it was my money, i'd go straight to the cops and i certainly wouldn't give those guys any more money.

I agree with you, because the first look at the page reveals that it is an amateur work, especially all the links that should lead to social networks or "about, user support..." behind which there is a blank page. It is hard for me to believe that someone thinks it is logical to invest in something that is so poorly presented that it literally warns of a scam.

I thank you for your competence and kindness. 🙏 I sent all my transactions to Italian Police and to Hong Kong Police. They have all the numbers of the transactions from Binance to Coincity

Is there a special reason why you are contacting the police in HK? The domain is registered on namecheap and the real owner is hidden according to the information I can see...
4112  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Banking (and crypto wallets) trojan Grandoreiro targets Spanish speaking nations on: August 23, 2022, 02:28:26 PM
Although not mentioned explicitly, it’s possible that there is a chance to perform clipboard jacking under the guise of some of the above features, which could come in handy to the hackers even if you’re handling a hardware wallet (or whatnot), simply by changing addresses that are copy/pasted with the intent to be included in TXs.

That would be the most likely option when it comes to Ledger Live or for some other HW+Electrum combination. However, this trojan may also have some more sophisticated ways to attack HW owners, perhaps redirecting them to various web locations where it tries to steal their seed or through some other data it gets if it succeeds in infecting the victim's computer.

Given that it's been around since at least 2016, I assume any good AV must block it - although few people pay attention to online security these days. Of course, everything starts from the fact that you should not trust links that come from suspicious sources, no matter how credible it may seem to someone at first glance.
4113  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Conference League Discussion Thread -- 2022/23 | Qualifying 5/07/22 on: August 23, 2022, 01:59:32 PM
The players and fans of Hajduk are hoping for a miracle in return, but that would really be a huge surprise because the difference in the quality of the team is too great.

And they certainly have the right to hope for that, because a difference of only 2 goals is not something that is unattainable, especially if you are playing on your home field in front of 30 000 fans. In addition, according to information from the domestic press, the Spanish club has not accredited a single journalist, nor will any of their fans officially attend the match, which is unheard of in recent history.

To me, this seems like an underestimation of the opponent, which Hajduk can certainly turn to their advantage, regardless of the fact that the quality is undoubtedly on the side of the visiting team.
4114  Economy / Speculation / Re: I've been confused in BTC on: August 23, 2022, 01:36:07 PM
I am very disappointed with the state of Bitcoin in the current market. Because last week its price was 24000 dollars but now it shows 21 thousand dollars. I want to know from you, is the price of Bitcoin likely to fall further?

In fact, the price even exceeded $25 000, but it seems that I and some others were right when we assumed that we will not stay that high for long - because Bitcoin is still only a means of profit for some, preferably a short-term one. People who bought under $20 000 are quite happy that they sold at a price above $25 000, so there's really no reason to be confused, because that's how the market works.

Who wouldn't disappointed when you see your portfolio going down?

The OP is more focused on some other cryptocurrencies that obviously take up too much of his time, and that's why some things about Bitcoin seem strange to him - although it is clear to most that in a bear market one should not expect any spectacular things when it comes to the price.
4115  Other / Archival / Re: Leading countries in the use of crypto on: August 23, 2022, 01:16:21 PM
These data from the table do not look credible to me, especially this part about the number of businesses that accept crypto payments, of which there are only 6 in the entire US, which is completely wrong without any doubt, although the second column lists the capitals of those countries, so that number refers to that and not to the whole country?

We recently had a similar topic that was also posted by the same member, and if we look at the top 10 countries such as Germany, Australia, Switzerland or Portugal on that list, we can notice that they are not here at all - no matter what methodology the authors of the research used, it is strange that we get so different results.

Most crypto-friendly economies in the world

I think that the authors of this and similar research are very limited in terms of the number of countries they take into account, because if that number were 100 or 150, I believe that the results would be completely different.
4116  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Buying a Hardware Wallet in US on: August 23, 2022, 12:45:53 PM
@rdluffy, I don't want to get into your private reasons why you need a hardware wallet so urgently, but considering that you are traveling to the US, you should know that all electronic devices are subject to checks by official personnel at airports. I know that I would not like to be in a position to explain what this is all about, nor to have such a device taken away from me, which is possible by law. I think those are some things you should consider.

If you're disappointed with the Ledger based on what you've read, then simply don't buy it - this especially applies to the model S, which will no longer be produced, and the question is how long it will have support. However, for a price of less than $100, you don't have much choice, at least not if it's something with a good reputation.
4117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We are all Hodlonaut on: August 23, 2022, 10:09:08 AM
Do you think that Faketoshi with its actions is slowly forcing developers to move away from Bitcoin as it is the case with the recent announcement of Wladimir van der Laan and some other famous names (John Newbery, Samuel Dobson, Jonas Schnelli) who left in the last 1.5 years?
Have another read of the post by Greg Maxwell I linked to in the OP of this thread. I trust his judgement and statements on issues such as these, and here is what he has to say on the matter:

I read that post, but I was interested in your opinion, considering that they all cited some completely different things as the reasons for their actions without publicly saying that the real reason is what Faketoshi is doing. However, some things are much clearer now, because Faketoshi knows exactly where to direct his attacks and they obviously bring results - only one more question remains, is he doing it alone or does he have some very powerful allies operating from the shadows?

I remembered my old Twitter account and decided to provide support that way, and I got a reply from @hodlonaut - and I also linked this thread to him so he knows that he has support from the members of this forum.

4118  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why it's so hard to rank-up? on: August 23, 2022, 09:42:55 AM
Thanks for stepping in and sharing your perspective with me (and others).
---
Again, maybe those who left are the real troublemakers 🤔

You're welcome Wink

However, I want to emphasize that this is just seeing the forum from my perspective, because in the beginning I spent most of my time in Micro Earnings and some other boards, a little outside the important things that were happening on the forum. Maybe you would be surprised if you looked at the post history of some of today's famous members, because most of us started very modestly, as befits true beginners.

I don't want to say that those who left were the ones who caused problems, but that they were just personalities who were different from the majority, and that their leaving the forum might have been a good thing for some, but I think we lost members who were also very important for this forum.

~snip~
I have a wandering thoughts though. Were altcoins really like "worthy" in those years or were they just mostly shitcoins that we get these days? I am totally curious.

From the perspective of that time and my own, they seemed to have some value, but for an inexperienced beginner, everything looks promising. The first coins that I somehow earned were actually altcoins, so I was even involved in a project whose owner was one of the more famous members of the forum, but that project, like many others, failed.

Over time, I realized that only Bitcoin has a constant, and that everything else is just an illusion sold by fog sellers, as is the case even today. I can't say that everything from that period was wasted time, because 1000 Dogecoins were worth only about $0.14 then, and you could earn them very easily on faucets - for those who saved them, they could make a very significant profit.
4119  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why it's so hard to rank-up? on: August 22, 2022, 03:55:39 PM
It is difficult to rank up because people are greedy with their merits. Even when you make a quality post, they still ignore it and you get nothing. I guess that's why people like us are really not interested in ranking up. I am here first, to learn. I don't care whether I rank up or not.

I would not agree with you, because 90% of your posts are in Altcoins boards, and even 80% of them are in Bounties, which means that you spent 90% of your time on the forum under the radar of most of those who could potentially reward you with merits. Furthermore, your post history clearly indicates that you came with a completely different intention than to learn, but it is never too late to change the way you approach the forum.

If you think you have posts that deserve to be rewarded with merits, there is also a topic for such requests -> Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source

I agree. With a little effort, everyone can make progress on the forum.

As you can see, some do not think so, although few think that the problem may be with them, and not with the forum.
4120  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The first physical business that accepts Bitcoin payments in my area. on: August 22, 2022, 03:20:30 PM
I know of several online stores that sell wines/alcoholic beverages, and as far as I can see, some have physical branches, so the idea is not new, but it is probably unique considering the location. Still, it's a bit strange that the owner first posted the sign without explaining to the employees how to accept payment in Bitcoin, so @Die_empty was left without his first bottle of BTC wine (at least for now) Wink

@Die_empty, as far as I can see from the pictures, there are also other alcoholic drinks in that store, so I assume that they can also be bought for Bitcoin along with the already mentioned wine?
