4101  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.3.4 on Ubuntu16.04 LTS (i386) crashes on: February 21, 2019, 06:56:30 PM
Install Python 3.6 from a PPA repository as required by newest Electrum app
Get source code
python3.6 Electrum-3.3.4/run_electrum

crashes
module not found error - 'PyQt5.QtGui'

python3.6.7-1~16.4.york from PPA
launchpad.net/~jonathonf

Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like your problem lies with PyQT (not python).

Install it via pip3 (not pip or apt):

sudo pip3 install pyqt5

Then try again running the installer.
There is also Qt.py, QtPy and Qt5.py but i don't think you need those.

Also see if by chance, you got pyqt from system packages or that PPA, i would remove it if found (ie. sudo apt remove python-qtpy).

If you're not able to use the appimage and you're not willing to update your OS then your only option is to use electrum 3.2.4. Just don't follow any links in error messages.

Best to update the OS. pyqt5 is probably compiled against the python version that came with the OS and that's why it won't work with python 3.6 that you installed from the 3rd party repo.

Be mindful that some distros are dropping 32bit support, if the target machine is say, a p4, it would be advised to plan moving to a distro that keeps 32bit support. LTS at least gives him until 2021 while non LTS with 32bit support is already dropped (ie 18.04), so be mindful before suggesting a "distro upgrade" here because it probably needs planning and backing up data for migration.

As for using older Electrum, there is little to worry. If you get the phishing message, your transaction won't commit. Just change the server and try again. The good servers show a different nag (unclickable link pointing to electrum.org) but nothing to worry about it, and the transaction does broadcast. (right click and "view on block explorer" to confirm).

btw: 16.04 provides python-qt4, I'm not sure if that's in the way, but could try sudo apt remove python-qt4 and hope no important dependencies complain.
4102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google keyboard enables Bitcoin symbol on iOS on: February 21, 2019, 06:02:44 PM
@cs_moderator member of "reddit.com/r/Bitcoin" published a picture from his personal phone explaining that Google's listing Bitcoin symbol "BTC" as the first cryptocurrency to be included.
It did not appear to me but it seems to have been added according to the comments in the link[1].
[1] Wow!!!!! I just noticed that the "₿" symbol is now the first currency when u long press $ on Google keyboard.

Took them long enough... the BTC symbol was added to Unicode in 2017, and if you are on Linux you can follow my guide to assign it to any keyboard key (or key combination):
4103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk calls crypto “quite energy intensive” on: February 21, 2019, 05:41:46 PM
Someone should really send him this, https://hackernoon.com/the-reports-of-bitcoin-environmental-damage-are-garbage-5a93d32c2d7

Elon Musk should actually embrace this technology, because it is one way for him to actually push for more sales of his "Power Wall" technology. Imagine if people could utilize cheaper electricity for mining with the "Power Wall" technology, then he would be selling more of those products.  Roll Eyes

When people realize the truth behind Bitcoin mining and how energy efficient the technology is, then they are not brainwashed by uniformed shills that are pushing hidden agendas with FUD like Bitcoin being energy intensive.  Roll Eyes

Actually Tesla (which Acquired Solarcity) can provide the very panels, and if you want to use Li-ion batteries to store power you can combine it with the powerwall as well.

They have projects that power entire islands and could easily provide the means for miners which just like small countries are just another customer.

Elon doesn't really need to worry, because in time the only miners that remain will be those with "free" (ie. Solar) energy. Everyday mining becomes less and less profitable until there are no countries left on Earth where its profitable to do it on the grid. Then you will observe an important reduction in hashrate, but that doesn't matter because Bitcoin adjusts difficulty automatically (every 2016 blocks) so it always finds a block every 10 minutes no matter what.

This process has been delayed a few times by the rise of bitcoin price, but I foresee the mining will become less profitable faster than bitcoin deflationary process. And that is GOOD, Bitcoin already IS environmentally friendly, thanks to free market.

Those miners unable to see ahead will stop mining, and that is fine. Bitcoin will go on.
4104  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1]. New release includes AsicBoost on: February 21, 2019, 04:41:33 PM
... It was PSU problem, but funny thing is swapped two miners PSU and both are working fine now. Huh

Then it could have been a wire/connector issue, glad it is working fine on both miners.
4105  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Testing a 220VA Wall Socket? on: February 21, 2019, 05:53:12 AM
No, only the miner(s). It's to protect the miner(s) from the stove going on and off. You will see (and hear) the fluctuations made by the stove and other appliances when you use it. Using multiple (one for each miner) could be troublesome as they will generate (electric) noise to each other. I guess you could buy the 8000w one to feed stable electricity to 4 miners.

In theory if your circuit is truly 50a (60a in breaker and wiring is what the spec says) and you are using no stove, then you should be able to safely put 4. It would be nice if you could measure, get an ampere meter clamp to see for yourself, i would not be surprised if the S15 pulls less than 10a, probably 8a or less like the S9s, or even less in low power mode.

There are several image sharing sites, imgur is one of the most popular.
4106  Other / Off-topic / Re: How anonymous is TOR really? on: February 21, 2019, 05:26:40 AM
If you are truly paranoid, stick to "hidden services" (.onion addresses) and avoid the normal web (no exit nodes), use the Tor Browser from a live linux like Tails. The rest depends on your attitude, as mentioned earlier some people can't control their ego...

Tor is vital in oppressive regimes. People living nice countries only think about doing "bad" things, but under oppressive regimes a "bad thing" might mean reading an article from a "banned" media outlet or buying bitcoin. There is people who can get imprisoned years without seeing any lawyer or family only for expressing their political opposition on social media against the regime they live under.

Of course the original intention was protecting navy operatives passing Intel while remaining undetected behind enemy lines. It HAS to be anonymous enough, as there are people lives at risk here. But not everyone knows how to use it properly as that requires a strict discipline.
4107  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining in South American and Central Asian countries on: February 21, 2019, 04:54:21 AM
in Venezuela until recently you could be arrested and imprisoned with all of your property seized just because you were mining crypto. I dont know about you, but South America doesnt seem like the most welcoming place for this type of business, as I have previously mentioned.

This is difficult to explain because in most of the world there is such thing as the rule of law. But current Venezuela is different. Think wild west or medieval justice. You "could" do everything by "the rules", and still get all the aforementioned. Or you could smuggle the asics and keep a low profile and still manage to go undetected.

Right now when a regime change is imminent, anything goes. We just don't know what will happen. Things were much better before 2016 when it was "unregulated" and the officials didn't even know anything about it...

Perhaps the new government will regulate crypto favorably, given so many people survived the socialist economy nightmare with it. But i don't expect the electricity to remain this cheap for long. This new government needs to reinstate the rule of law, so potential investors can clearly know what is ok and what is not, instead or rolling the dice everyday...
4108  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Ron Paul: Who's Opposing The Socialists Attack on Capitalism? on: February 21, 2019, 04:34:28 AM
False. A bureaucrat decides if you can open it or not, most often he will deny it because he has the power and you don't. Most business disappear or go underground, since they would violate a decree or "law" anyway. Those few with enough money to bribe can usually manage to get their permit, so it becomes a privilege for few to run a business in a socialist state. Quite the opposite of what socialists preach, ironically.

Socialists want the almighty State to intervene everything, and overwhelm society with so many rules and regulations, even if you tried to follow to the letter it would take years to get anything done. It is a system that removes entrepreneurial stimulus and replaces it with bribe and corruption.
Ahahahahahah
Oh god what the hell dude? You're completely broken braindead xD

While you are dreaming unicorns in your fantasy world, i'm living in it, but hopefully not for much longer...

The things i wrote come from specific cases from 15+ years living in "socialism", but i don't need to convince you since you don't care about the truth.

Move to Cuba and see all your fantastic utopian theories go wrong, because you ignore the human nature thinking people will act like you wish them to. Well they don't, humanity tried in several places and all of them failed the same way. It is the likes of you who are completely "braindead", but you don't dare come without money and live in your socialist dreams for various years. Happily preaching from wealthy capitalist countries without worries of lacking medicine, food or a foreign invasion, all thanks to your types in the world filling the youth with garbage.

Socialism is dead and buried and that's where it should always be.
4109  Other / Politics & Society / Re: SpaceX and the prospects of Mars colonization. on: February 21, 2019, 04:18:48 AM
The most serious problem SpaceX faces now is money. They didn't receive new funding from DOD's projects and it won't be easy to build the Starship from their current sources of revenue.

But Musk just wrote that they might be able to build it for less than what Falcon9 costed:

https://www.teslarati.com/spacex-ceo-elon-musk-says-that-bfr-could-cost-less-to-build-than-falcon-9/

This would be great news. But it's hard to believe, taking in account that the Starship will have to be able to endure a 6 months voyage to Mars and arrive there with its crew and passengers alive and "relatively" well of health.

NASA now appears to want a Moon base, and they will want cargo and people delivered from/to regularly. I think SpaceX has a chance to make more profit doing that before venturing further. And they can take the time to refine their vehicle and ship doing those Moon missions before Mars.
4110  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Testing a 220VA Wall Socket? on: February 21, 2019, 03:34:35 AM

Nice pic (awful sharing site). Unfortunately that doesn't reveal us the wires used or the breaker, but at least you know the plug can take 50a. Cheesy

I will bet its the NEMA 14-50.

If you pay attention you will notice the power you need comes from the two most separate straight holes (not all three), and the round one is ground which is always nice. As you can see the flat in the middle is irrelevant, it only provides 110v if you connect it with either of the other two.

I guess you could just split it with one of these:

Parkworld 692095 RV 50 AMP Splitter, NEMA 14-50P Male Plug to (2) 14-50R Female connectors (with Lighted) 1 Plug to 2 Socket Y Adatper

As for the stove, you still don't get it. Its not that you won't have "juice" for it, heck, the stove will be fine (or at worst just trip the breaker). But turning it on and off WILL harm the PSU of your delicate miner, and stoves go on/off a lot when in use.

Well you could always get something like this to connect your Miner and hope it can protect your PSU...

If you buy this (or similar), do not use the included plug adapter (at those loads it melts), and do not plug it into a 110v socket. Either wire an European socket or get an sturdy adapter that can take 20a or more. I know it says it can convert 110v into 220v but you don't want to use it that way to avoid tripping the breakers or burning the place.
4111  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1]. New release includes AsicBoost on: February 21, 2019, 01:42:31 AM
One of my S9j miners keeps rebooting.
All settings are default, no oc.

[...]

Any idea why?

Try downclocking to 500~600mhz and see if it remains stable. The temperatures are fine? Also you could try switching with another PSU just in case that one is misbehaving.
4112  Economy / Economics / Re: Money & Inflation on: February 20, 2019, 01:44:24 PM
Inflation is not a good words in the country like Philippines and to others country that belong in the third world country and so stressful. So because of that I can choose money to can manage to support my needs and my family.

Try Venezuela, one million percent inflation last year, some sources say two million...
Last time i checked, Philippines have not pegged their currency since the 70ies. So as much as you hate it, you are still far better than you could be...

If you like to watch videos, watch this:

📉📈 Inflation and Deflation | A Hidden Tax

To put some context of Venezuela:

1983,
4 VEB
= 1 USD.
2004,
1,600 VEB
= 1 USD.
2008,
2,150 VEB
= 1 USD.
2019,
300,000,000,000 VEB
= 1 USD.

1 USD in 1983 means $2.53 today, so take that into account...

In 2008 the VEB was replaced by the VEF, slashing three zeroes.
In 2018, the VEF was replaced by the VES, slashing five zeroes.

In the meantime..:

2009,1 BTC= 0 USD.
2009,1 BTC= 300 USD.
2019,1 BTC= 4000 USD.
4113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining Giant Bitmain Posts $500 Million Loss in IPO Financial Filing on: February 20, 2019, 12:18:51 AM
With the announcement of the S17/T17, and the sales from current S15/T15, if they stick to selling machines and stop with the nonsense (Ie. BCH) which is apparently their intention by moving Jihan Wu out of his position, they could recover and then be in a better position to try the IPO again.

They saw some competition from the likes of MicroBT, whom I'm still waiting to see if they deliver their promise of a 7nm asic.

There is also their involvement in computing asics for AI applications, not sure where that will lead to.

And they also made their own SoC

4114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy Pizza with Bitcoin through Lightning Network on: February 19, 2019, 11:57:57 PM
And the Pizzas no longer cost 5k bitcoins each! See? Deflation!

Restaurants are a typical case where something like LN can shine, especially for recurring clients. In the mean time these transactions are relieving the main network of load, making everyone's transactions cheaper and faster.

Also the store itself should be running a full node, lightning node and Electrum server in my opinion. technically its not needed,  but why not give your customers a better service? Any old computer with Linux will do...
4115  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How to fix s9 the miner accidentally remove from power source while upgrading? on: February 19, 2019, 11:38:01 PM
that's only to fix the hash boards, it won't work for the control board.

he needs to flush it using an SD card.

download the tool from bitmain > https://service.bitmain.com/support/download?product=Flashing%20SD%20card%20with%20image

and then you will need the SD firmware which i can't seem to find on bitmain website, but i found this on the forum

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5029225.0

the guy has it uploaded somewhere

* i am not responsible for any damage caused by any of the files, DYOR and do this at your own risk

what i would do , is contact bitmain and ask them for the file, it would be safer that way.

Or, place Braiins OS into an sd card, move jumper jp4 and mine away!

Of course it would be better to fix the OS in the nand on the controller so you don't need to depend forever on the sd card.
4116  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Ron Paul: Who's Opposing The Socialists Attack on Capitalism? on: February 19, 2019, 11:12:32 PM
start your own business, something socialism would never let you to do...

In socialism the free market is gone and replaced by a State institution that decides everything from prices, to what you can work in and when, therefore the power to freely choose is taken away from the people and given to the bureaucrats.

If that's not the best example of confusion between communism and socialism I don't know what it is.

You understand that in a socialism state, not only is the free market not gone, but creating a company is both easier and less risky?

Then what, want to hire a worker? Can't hire it for few hours, must be all 8, can't work 2 or 3, hast to be all 5. Cannot work more than 8 hours, else you have to pay him double. You can't fire the worker if your business is going bad, you have to sink with him, etc, etc.

Hiring a worker is too difficult and expensive under socialism, and this is only the tip of the iceberg. Socialism is a true Pandora box once you open, your country can go from being the most rich to the most poor. Socialism is a corruption machine.

If i haven't lived it myself, i would have never understood Milton Friedman's quote:
Quote from: Milton Friedman
"If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there'd be a shortage of sand."
Of course reading books and watching classes of Austrian Economics gave me the clear answer, Mises book is the definitive answer to Socialism.

Education in economy is the answer.
4117  Other / Off-topic / Re: what do you think about electric cars? on: February 19, 2019, 09:25:15 PM
I don't know its good or not cause this cars are more smart, but cars on gasoline are more faster, so what do you think about this? Undecided

You mean they have better top speed, but that doesn't make them faster. The tesla roadster takes only 1.9seconds to go from 0 to 100, and that is faster than any fuel car. But Electric cars haven't got to 400km/h yet. But there are no roads for that speed so it's nonsense.

I like the electric cars, but i know that we need better batteries, that's the main issue now.

Probably the reason for that is lack of transmission gears. They have indeed a lower top speed, but they apply force direct to the wheel making them more efficient. Given most typical car usage, I'd say it covers most needs. They are even fast enough for the Autobahn, but are software speed capped in other countries, and they are probably less efficient at top speeds anyway.

2019 TESLA MODEL S 100D 247km/h AUTOBAHN POV by AutoTopNL

Tesla seems to be using their own custom size batteries now, originally they just used 18650 Li-ION. They improved the capacity over the years while still using the same space (the floor of the car). And to further the industry, Elon Musk gave permission to anyone free use of their Tesla patents.

Hi, My name is Myra and I am a writer by interest. Actually, I am a software engineer but my interest is in writing since school. I wrote many articles and published them on many websites. I wrote web content of this website 4dollaressay. But When I write for famous content websites like MEDIUM, ThriveGlobal, they reject or remove my article. I am very demotivated now. I need Help. How can I Improve my Writing Skills

Hmm software engineer? You haven't thought of registering a domain and purchasing a hosting yourself? You may be getting flagged for plagiarism, and be aware doing that in this forum is also punished. Or there is something in your content that violates their terms of use.

Cars on gasoline much faster and more powerful, argue with this foolish

Thank you. Explaining basic things he should have learned in high school is getting tiresome.

I seriously think high school should teach more economy, the only reason some people fall for socialism, is that nobody ever told them about how prices and wages in a free market find its best point at any given time and place than any bureaucrat could ever do and what the results of attempting to do so have been in 40 centuries of human history:

Forty Centuries of Wage and Price Controls: How Not to Fight Inflation

Things like "the law of supply and demand", lack of understanding it, or naively thinking "that law is unfair" (Oh, like Newton's "law of gravity")... Learn it and use it to your advantage, instead of pretending you can dismiss it, as socialists preach.
