4121  Economy / Services / Re: Betting offer on: January 25, 2023, 12:11:57 AM
Vague offer. Promises to make money. You have to deposit funds. Telegram contact. Assuring they have a special system to beat the casino…

This is like a post to see how many red flags can be presented. No sane person would jump at an offer like this, but I assume it’s an offer looking for desperate people willing to try anything to make a buck as they are likely the easiest scam targets. Be safe out there. There is no substitute for putting in the work.
4122  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the bitcoin price continue to increase? on: January 24, 2023, 09:07:42 PM
Seems pretty clear to me that the market hit bottom and is on it's way up, likely for a couple of years.  Sure, there will be bull traps and liquidation crunches, but if you purchased BTC with your own money and removed it from an exchange, you don't have to worry about these things.  Keep stacking sats and wait a year or two, you'll be glad you did.  When you look at the daily news cycle and manipulation of crypto, it's easy to get lost in a trader's mindset.  However, if you zoom out and look at the 4-year cycle with some patience, this should be the easiest investment you ever make.  Buy now and sell in 2025, then buy in 2027 and sell in 2029.  You're welcome.  If your time frame is shorter than that, consider looking at ways to earn income as investing is not what you're looking for.
4123  Economy / Speculation / Re: Genesis bankruptcy cause BTC to surge due to buying to fulfill loan? on: January 24, 2023, 08:10:02 PM
So I heard about the chapter 11. They owe something like $700M to Gemini customers.  Now where is where I am confused.

They paid something like 5% for Bitcoin and those bitcoins are pretty much gone. They were converted to GBTC which is locked forever.

So how will they make the clients whole again? They will have to buy BTC on the open market to fulfill those obligations?

Also it’s $700M at the current market value, if Bitcoin pumps to like $40K it’ll be like 1.5B to fulfill their obligations.

So I am thinking price of BTC might surge if they are forced to buy those bitcoins back.

I don’t think they’ll buy the BTC back for their customers. They’re going to file bankruptcy protection and it’s pretty clear that it was setup and orchestrated that way intentionally to steal your BTC. I removed mine from exchanges at the first sign of trouble and since they couldn’t steal my BTC, they closed my account instead. We aren’t dealing with mature professionals in this space yet. The leaders of this industry are still mostly spoiled rich kids playing games.
4124  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 24, 2023, 08:07:10 PM
Conor McGregor facing more bad news as he’s being accused of a pretty nasty assault on a woman. His slow motion downward spiral has been sad to see. Hopefully he gets his attitude together. He’s much more entertaining when he isn’t attacking women and elderly men. He’d better have one hell of a fighting comeback in the UFC or I think his days of being a celebrity may be numbered.
4125  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 24, 2023, 08:05:17 PM
Another night of nationally televised NBA basketball thanks to TNT, who also has my favorite commentators. Up first is the Celtics and Heat. Both teams have been playing great this year so that game could go either way, but of course the Celtics are the favorite. Then you’ve got the Lakers and Clippers battle for LA. Both teams have been a disappointment, but maybe they’ll bring their A game for the rivalry.
4126  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you guys think about web3, metaverse? on: January 24, 2023, 05:19:39 PM
Obviously they were bubbles and a majority of what was sold was manipulated nonsense and worthless art. However, the technology is here to stay and I think NFTs will find themselves lots of use cases, specifically for investments and entertainment. I have no doubt that all digital assets will be tokenized someday. I think we’re still probably 10-15 years away from that becoming reality though.
4127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Whats the downside of Crypto GPU mining? on: January 24, 2023, 05:16:28 PM
I actually disagree with all of your points. GPU mining is far cheaper than ASIC mining, can be done with alternative energy, can be done via NiceHash so you’re getting BTC and can easily switch to the most profitable coin at the moment, you’re competing with amateur GPU miners instead of ASIC data centers, and GPUs are much easier to scale than ASICs.

I would say the downside is limited to heat and noise for many small miners. Most other drawbacks are addressable.

Switch to Bitcoin it’s always up and running!!!

I keep seeing this headline but haven’t found which stocks were halted yet. Care to list them?

As for Bitcoin, it seems we’ve hit another level where people are willing to sell and accumulation continues. Hardly any correction at all. Either the bull trap is working or we’re in the beginning stages of a long rally. I tend to think it’s the latter.
4129  Economy / Goods / Re: ~ Buying a TESLA CYBERTRUCK with BITCOIN ~ on: January 24, 2023, 05:05:24 PM
This way you will get it pre inflation price if you don't cancel,

I don’t think that a pre-Biden inflation wave price is a realistic expectation. Biden’s policies have led to the highest levels of inflation in generations. Tesla won’t be able to produce the Cybertruck for anywhere near what they hoped to sell them for at this point. You can’t blame Tesla for that though. You have to blame the people who thought we could defeat the flu if we printed enough money. I’m just hoping I can get mine for under $90K at this point if we’re being honest.
4130  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 24, 2023, 05:00:51 PM
Some high scores in the NBA last night. The Bucks and Pistons scored a total 280 points with the Bucks winning 150 to 130. Then you had the trailblazers who put up 147 points in their 147-127 win over the Spurs. Seems like something was in the air last night. I can’t remember the last time I saw 280 points being scored in a regulation length game but it certainly doesn’t happen every day.
4131  Economy / Collectibles / Re: casascius could go back into business and crush it on: January 23, 2023, 11:47:35 PM
What’s the saying… “You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

I’m sure if Casascius was still around he’d be dealing with trolling and accusations about his motivations ad nauseam. People have a strange obsession with destroying the things they love. I think he made the right choice for himself and his products. Maybe someday he’ll come back with something else cool and innovative, but I don’t think it would contain a private key he had access to for liability reasons and current 2fa methods leave something to be desired.

More Cybertruck progress in Texas.

https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-cybertruck-casting-molds-giga-texas-delivery/

With the molds now being delivered, I expect that production will begin soon on the underbody pieces for the Cybertruck to start amassing the needed parts for mass production.  This was really the biggest piece of the Cybertruck's production.  Now that the machines are ready to start producing the most innovative parts of the truck, I suspect we'll start seeing some production timelines in the near future.  Personally, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Summer of 2024 delivery of my Cybertruck, but you never know what could happen this year, especially with everyone screaming that a recession is imminent.
4133  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: This Smells Like Hypocrisy on: January 23, 2023, 03:49:01 PM

Gambling in Japan is not black and white. In fact, gambling is considered a criminal offence and is generally banned across the country.

Those that are found gambling can face large fines and even serve jail time.

However, there are exceptions to this rule. Betting on horse racing and the lottery are two forms of gambling that are accepted in Japan.

To me, this seems hypocritical. You claim that gambling is illegal, but you may bet on horse racing, Pachinko, bicycle racing, boat racing, and Mahjong, which baffles me. I do not seem to understand. Why is that so? You claim it is unlawful, yet wagering on games that are overseen by the government is not unlawful. Is this not hypocritical? What does the government fear?

I don’t know enough about Japanese culture to give a good answer to your questions, but Japan is interesting and unique with how they deal with money. Their saver culture is basically the opposite of what we have in America, and I could see how gambling runs contrary to that saving culture. I’m sure someday gambling rights will win out globally, as it’s a more and more accepted pastime. Only a matter of time.

That was a close game yesterday between the 49ers and the Cowboys. I had some money on the Niners so I’m glad they won and I’m also glad it was a good game. It was also nice to see the Cowboys kicker make a field goal as he was on a pretty terrible streak. Hopefully he gets his mind right for next year. Missing so many kicks like that has got to be hard on you mentally.
4135  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: January 22, 2023, 09:35:11 PM
Phoenix Suns VS Memphis Grizzlies

The stake odds for this game are 4.40 for the Suns and 1.23 for the Grizzlies, Right now Devin Booker, Jae Crowder, Landry Shamet, Cameron Johnson, Cameron Payne and Chris Paul can not play for the Suns and Deandre Ayton is questionable if he can play, while Danny Green can not play for the Grizzlies, and for this game because of so much injuries for the Suns I could not think that the Grizzlies can either win this, so my pick will be the Memphis Grizzlies,

While the odds on this game don't really justify placing a bet, I think the Grizzlies are highly likely to win this game against the Bookerless Suns.  If Chris Paul is also out, and Ayton isn't feeling his best, the Grizzlies should be able to cruise to a big win here.  For that reason, I think I'll probably throw a couple bucks on the Grizzlies to win this game and see if I can get a free dinner out of it.  I also like the Nuggets over the Thunder and the Warriors over the Nets, but those might have to be small separate parlay bets to try and make things interesting.  Smiley

Sacramento Kings are 3rd in Western Conference! Just let it sink in guys because this is a real achievement from a small team that have been working hard in silence for all this years and finally they are having a great season. This small club really deserves more as we see people are back in the court when team is playing and if we take a look 2 years ago on Sacramento games , we will have saw empty seats over empty seats but it's not the case anymore.

Even if they lost last night , they still scored 127 points without having a great defense game because hey , no one is playing defense anymore this season ...

There are still teams who played good defense. What is your basis for saying that no team is playing defense this season?

You can check on the stats. https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/defense

The scores are just high because teams nowadays love to shoot 3 points, unlike the teams in 90's where games are very physical and they want to drive the ball more and less attempts in 3 points area.

I guess it's because the 3-pointer was introduced late and basketball players back at that date are more used to do some physical movements towards other players as they are more accustomed driving the ball towards the ring. Now I know that the NBA introduced the 3-pointer in early 1980's but the thing is, that wasn't implemented widely and colleges are also experimenting about it.

Anyway, back to the topic. Sacramento Kings totally deserves all the credit for achieving the 3rd seed because they worked hard for it as it wasn't an overnight success for the whole team.

I think most of the credit goes to whoever secured the Domantas Sabonis trade.  He was a great pickup for that team and the piece that's finally going to get them into the playoffs.  Also, whoever thought up the BEAM idea.  Everyone in Sacramento goes nuts to light the beam whenever they win.  Even the players love it.  There's no doubt some extra motivation to get wins and let the city rejoice in the light of the beam that night.  I think people underestimate the basketball fans in Sacramento.  It may be a small city, but it's a city that goes nuts for the Kings and it shows.

Nice.  I like that one.  My Dad used to repeat an old saying that I'm sure most of the folks in here have heard at one point or another.  He used to say that the trick to gambling is simple, just bet a lot of money when you're going to win, and make a small bet when you're going to lose.  It couldn't be more simple.  Smiley

This meme reminded me of that.  Same logic.  You can't refute it though.  Definitely good advice.  The trick is just figuring out when you're going to win versus when you're going to lose and boom.  Profits.

How much you looking for shipped to the NorthEast?
Thanks,

If I am going to throw out a number, 0.035 BTC seems like a nice clean asking price.  Smiley  Feel free to PM me with an offer if you would like.  I'm not sure exactly what shipping would cost for this thing, it's pretty heavy, but I'm open to receiving a shipping label and letting you select the shipping method/process as well.  Let me know if you need pictures or any further information about the miner.  I'm happy to sell it and I think now that BTC is rising in price, ASIC miners are about to see a little boom in price, but maybe I'm wrong.

I've sold off our GPUs as they weren't doing too much these days and the funds went into NastyMining's holding address.  Perhaps I'll upgrade to newer GPUs at some point in the future when it's a more opportune time to do so.  I've also listed our S17 Pro for sale in the computer hardware section of this forum and have started receiving offers via PM.  This S17 Pro is fresh from repair so I figure it is a good time to sell it.  I'll look into upgrading that as well at some point in the future, but ASIC hardware is outgrowing my little electrical setup so I'll probably have to get an electrician to do some upgrades before making a new ASIC farm setup in the future.  We will soon own no mining hardware for the first time in more than a decade.

I have quite a few of the coins you are searching for.  Take a look at my collection and let me know if there's one you'd like to make an offer for.  The only one shown on the thread that has been sold so far is the 0.5 BTC brass coin.  I've been holding these for a while though, so I'm not exactly in any hurry to sell any, but wanted to let it be known that for the right price (an offer that I can't refuse) I would be willing to relocate the coins to a new home.  Enjoy the pics.  Good luck finding what you're looking for.  Smiley
