4121  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why it's so hard to rank-up? on: August 22, 2022, 02:52:09 PM
I'm trying to imagine what the atmosphere was like then here in 2014 and few years after that. Was there so much drama or no sparks as encouragement that made you leave? If you don't mind, I would like your response on this.

I occasionally visited the forum during 2014 as a guest and I was not interested in anything except to learn more about Bitcoin, although I must admit that I was also interested in some altcoins and of course then very popular faucets. I registered in 2015, and at least as far as I remember, there was a very relaxed mood then, because Bitcoin was cheap (between $200 - $250), and some signature campaigns were literally run by bots - there was so much spam that it was immeasurable in comparison from today.

In 2017 when I came in, I observed there was so much drama and in-house fights. The forum was often tensed. Those who had confrontations, fought like it were physical exchange of blows they had as one could feel it in the harsh words used. I couldn't help but wondered what was going on. Most times I was lost in the terminologies used and couldn't make out anything that was the reason for such fights. It's good to know that it's different now. The forum is friendlier this day.

There have always been conflicts on a personal level, maybe there are fewer of them today because some members left the forum, and others realized that it was a waste of time. The forum is definitely cleaner if you take into account spam or all those alt accounts that have been banned for various reasons, but there are still conflicts, just look at the Reputation board.

However, none of that is a reason that the OP or anyone else can't progress on the forum - time is of course still a key factor, but with merits we got another challenge that the members have to overcome, which is not easy, but far from an impossible mission, which many have already proven.
4122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We are all Hodlonaut on: August 22, 2022, 01:38:43 PM
I don't disagree, but there are far bigger issues than early coins being confirmed as not lost, such as CSW endlessly harassing every developer until no one wants to work on bitcoin anymore. Any coin which is not provably lost should not be assume to be lost. If Satoshi is still around and has the power to end this nonsense, then he should.

Do you think that Faketoshi with its actions is slowly forcing developers to move away from Bitcoin as it is the case with the recent announcement of Wladimir van der Laan and some other famous names (John Newbery, Samuel Dobson, Jonas Schnelli) who left in the last 1.5 years?

I sincerely doubt that even irrefutable evidence from Satoshi himself would stop Faketoshi from continuing to push his lies, because if he stops, he will only confirm that he lied all along - so I really wonder who all his victims will be - if he will start looking for a way to sue some members of this forum because we call him Faketoshi?

I am ready for a settlement in that case, because why go to trial if I can satisfy his mental pain in advance with one chocolate bar (McCormack - £1 = 1 candy bar) Cheesy
4123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Meet the world's first Bitcoin Mining Museum on: August 22, 2022, 01:16:31 PM
@nullama, you seem to be a big fan of museums, which of course is nothing bad - but a few months ago you announced that the first Bitcoin mining museum is located in Venezuela - and they cannot both be the first unless they were created at the same time Wink

There is a Museum of Bitcoin Mining History in Caracas, Venezuela
4124  Economy / Marketplace / Re: What do you buy/want to buy with crypto? on: August 22, 2022, 10:56:17 AM
I currently have no problem with not being able to spend crypto on almost anything I can think of when it comes to my country or within the EU where there are no customs duties and delivery is relatively fast. Therefore, I don't see much sense in ordering anything from outside the EU, because it significantly increases the price of the product due to customs and delivery, and also means a longer waiting time for the product to arrive.

Somehow it seems to me that such business ventures should be focused on the national market, although this does not prevent anyone from trying to expand internationally, but first it would be good to succeed on the domestic market.
4125  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin becomes generally adopted, will 21million btc be enough for everyone? on: August 22, 2022, 10:29:58 AM
People do not understand that 21 million Bitcoins is actually a lot of coins, not only today when globally a very small percentage of people use Bitcoin, but it will be similar in the next 5-10 years, considering that there will always be many more who will want to sell, but those who will want to buy. Furthermore, it is wrong to think that in the near future (even in the distant future) the majority of people will use Bitcoin as a currency or a store of value, because Bitcoin has existed since 2009 and it turned out that the majority of people are not interested in such a thing, and even more that they do not understand what Bitcoin represents.

Apart from that, who says that one day in the future a consensus will not be reached to increase the max supply? People did much more stupid things than that...
4126  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be wary of crypto/blockchain bridges! on: August 22, 2022, 10:07:27 AM
I would like to ask myself how many of these cases are actually real hacking, and how many of these cases are essentially fake hacking in the sense that the funds were stolen by those who are actually behind the project, and then they blame it on hackers from some enemy country? I just want to say that not everything is as it seems and that countries like Iran or North Korea should not always be blamed for every hacking, which has already become a common practice.

And even if it's not them, do you really expect the hackers be nice people who care about their victims?! Then they would notify the team, not steal people's money!

There are also good hackers who hack to point out flaws and then get rewarded for that, but most of them are unscrupulous and will steal anything they get the chance for - regardless of whether it's a small crypto investor or someone with millions of dollars in their account.
4127  Economy / Reputation / Re: I'm leaving here, goodbye friends! on: August 21, 2022, 02:18:48 PM
But the rules of the forum are too restrictive to allow me to speak freely, and I don't like being restricted, so I may not come back to the forum to speak in the future.

Many would not agree with you and I am certainly one of those who think that the rules of the forum are no obstacle to writing freely, but that at the same time you adhere to the rules that it all makes sense and is placed in the correct board.

The manager of bitcointalk deleted my discussion in the altcoin section

Do you know why it was deleted? I assume that someone reported that topic because you just copied your post from the topic you mention in the OP - in other words, it makes no sense to have the same discussion in two different boards. It has nothing to do with that anyone wants to prevent you in any way "to speak freely".

Maybe because you are a classic shitposter and thread spammer who does not contribute to the truth with your posts, but only pollutes this forum with your nonsensical ideas? Maybe some suffer more, some less - but not in the way you imagine and present it with the current profile, but also with all the ones you used before.

Let me ask you, what happened to that pizza coin you planned to conquer the world with?

4129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We are all Hodlonaut on: August 21, 2022, 01:29:04 PM
I don't think it was Satoshi who signed this message; rather just another early miner. If Satoshi is still around and wanted to end this CSW nonsense, they could simply sign a message from the genesis block address and/or their PGP key stating that they are not CSW. It doesn't make sense to me that they would risk revealing themselves by publishing a message, but not include the genesis block address.

It is probably not Satoshi, although he too was only human who could make mistakes and lost access to data including the genesis block and everything relevant from the earliest period. In addition, there is also the option that signing such a message in order to prove that Faketoshi is fake would do more harm than good, considering that it would not only confirm that Satoshi is alive, but also that he still has control over all the Bitcoins that he mined - and some fear that more than anything else.

I hope that with all the donations, Hodlonaut will be able to find a very good and experienced lawyer who will be able to free him from all guilt and once again show what a miserable scumbag Faketoshi is.
4130  Economy / Economics / Re: HSBC, Citigroup and the End of Global Banking on: August 21, 2022, 01:05:41 PM
As for HSBC, one only has to remember all their scandals and wonder why they exist at all after all, and who still continued to give them their trust after all the dirt that was washed away. But I'm not worried that such predators like them won't survive and adapt in the sense that they will offer some new services and products, and in addition, maybe make a bigger profit if they don't need physical banks and various officials who work in them.

There are a number of options available which could fill the vacuum left behind by banks reversing expansionist trends.

There is only one problem in your thinking, and that is that banks are not going anywhere in the literal sense, but are only adapting their operations, considering that more and more people are transferring their operations with banks to a digital form. I used to have 6-7 branches of one bank in the place where I live, and today there is only one, although I have information that the number of clients has remained more or less the same.

What's more, in all of this, banks have gotten under the skin of the average client even more, because they are literally in every device they use - and there is practically no need to go to the bank.
4131  Other / Meta / Re: Ban request for user: Snowshow on: August 21, 2022, 11:05:15 AM
I have no doubt that it is the same person and that if ban evasion could be proven, the matter would be completely clear - but I personally do not remember that someone was permanently banned for trolling or pointless discussion. Given that the user did not use any coin addresses or social network accounts that could be a link between his alt accounts, the only option left is to check IP addresses, but if it's a VPN or TOR, even that can be a dead end.

I personally think that ignoring members like this is not the best solution, because there will always be those who will somehow support him in pointless discussions, and one of his threads has even 42 pages. If the user does not get a perma ban, the only thing left for us is to be persistent in reports and not to support him by replying to his meaningless posts.
4132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We are all Hodlonaut on: August 21, 2022, 10:44:59 AM
It's amazing how persistent Faketoshi is in his intentions not only to prove that he is Satoshi, but also to attack anyone who claims otherwise. However, I am glad that individuals are opposing it, and even in this case in court, which is not easy for many of us, considering that our privacy and security are very important to us. I'm sure Faketoshi knows this very well and wants to make the most of it, as was the case with the Bitcoin whitepaper and the lawsuit against @Cøbra that Faketoshi got because @Cøbra didn't show up in court.

I find it incredible that this is not brought up more, particularly in subsequent court cases. His lies were definitively proven by a method which cannot be faked and anyone can verify. And yet here we are. Roll Eyes

I share your opinion regarding those addresses, which I mentioned several times in my posts, but even the members of this forum do not pay much attention to it. I personally suspected that Satoshi did it, although it could be any of the early stage miners, but still someone who was very likely very attached to the project, and is still willing to defend it.

4133  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin ATMs with no PhotoID in Australia on: August 20, 2022, 03:13:33 PM
Another thing to consider is how much CCTVs are covering you on your way. For starters, wearing something to make your face harder to recognize would be a good idea e.g. face mask, cap, etc.

At least this is not difficult or suspicious considering that at least in Australia people were literally caught on the streets because they did not have masks - although I would say that those who value their privacy should not use a crypto ATM, not only because of the possible KYC, but also because bad people can monitor such devices for potential victims.

Will they then intercept you on the street and ask you to hand over your smartphone, or will they follow you to your house/apartment and plan a burglary/physical attack or something else (blackmail) remains a question that everyone should ask themselves.
4134  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What the pressure for success comes with on: August 20, 2022, 02:50:56 PM
As people stay long in this forum, there is this level of anxiousness they develop.
Some newbies look back, in retrospect on their time spent in this forum, and they feel like they have been wasting away their time.

These are probably members who spend their time exclusively in altcoins boards chasing something called bounty campaigns that pay them in mostly worthless tokens, or they don't even pay them anything for the work done. The feeling that they wasted their time is therefore completely justified.

Some might be thinking that this forum is a get-rich scheme. Others, once you understand crypto, you will be rich and have bitcoin and other altcoins in your portfolio.

It's already a common story that spreads through social networks and attracts the people I described above, and it results from someone spreading a bunch of lies in order to continue to use cheap (free) labor to promote their mostly completely meaningless projects.

Investing in crypto comes with a little ease when you remember you securing your future indirectly. Just invest with the amount you can afford to lose and leave the rest as too much pressure to invest big in a coin can be bad.
---
As for me, I invest when I see a potential coin, invest with my spare money though. Being over-anxious has never solved any problem rather it leads you to invest wrongly.

I won't tell anyone what to do with their money, but altcoins have never been profitable in the long term (the vast majority), and it should be said openly that investing in them is nothing but ordinary gambling with high chances of loss. Maybe it's comforting that someone sticks to the strategy "I only invest as much as I'm afford to lose", but it still doesn't make much sense to me.
4135  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Collection Thread] Series and films in which Bitcoin (or Altcoins) appear on: August 20, 2022, 02:03:18 PM
Cryptocurrencies are mentioned in Treadstone, episode 3.

Over the past month,
a group within North Korea

has raised funds
to purchase the launch codes.

They were acting
without government sanction.

General Kwon found out
and hacked their funds...

500 million in cryptocurrency.

He killed the sale,
so they killed him.

The encryption key
to access those funds

is on this flash drive.

The Russians finally entered the center of Kiev in a parade of driverless military vehicles - it must be admitted that the Ukrainians have balls of steel when they provoke the aggressors like this.

4137  Economy / Economics / Re: Anyone here from Germany? What exactly are your electricity costs? on: August 20, 2022, 01:18:11 PM
It amazes me that Germany is resorting to stockpiling wood for the upcoming winter because they would rather freeze to death than utilize Russian energy. They're firing up coal and nuclear power plants in response in addition to stockpiling wood. I hope they're prepared.

You cannot sit on two chairs at the same time (although some try) and at the same time support sanctions and import Russian gas. The entire EU had a choice, to turn its head to the other side and pretend that nothing important is happening, or to stand firmly towards Russia, even if it means paying dearly for it. All those stories about someone freezing next winter have already become ridiculous because there will be enough gas from other sources, although the price for the end consumer will be much higher.

I can't speak for the average EU resident, but considering that my country experienced a similar war as Ukraine now, and that they were one of the first countries to recognize our independence, I give them full support, even if it means that I have to pay more for electricity or gas - human lives and survival have no price.
4138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Singapore is the second country to follow in El Salvador's footsteps, do you agr on: August 20, 2022, 12:47:49 PM
You can get the El Salvadorian citizenship by just live in El Salvador for minimum of 5 years, swear a loyalty oath and doesn't have any criminal activities for a foreigners [1] I think it's not hard, but you need to be patient to wait for 5 years.

[1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvadoran_nationality_law

Last year there was talk that a permanent residence permit could be obtained with an investment of 3 BTC, and later this was allegedly changed to $100 000 in BTC. A stay in the country of 5 years is really valid for citizenship, but the exception is the citizens of Spain and Latin American countries with a period of 1 year of stay in the country. Of course, there are still some exceptions when it comes to obtaining citizenship.

Permanent residency status in El Salvador can also lead to citizenship through naturalization, on a time-frame of 1-5 years. Those eligible include:
Persons who are nationals of Spain or Latin American countries, who have established a one-year residency;
Foreigners from anywhere who have established a five-year residence in the territory;
Foreigners who are married to Salvadoran spouses and have established a two-year residency; or Persons who have rendered exceptional service to the nation. (Available only by legislative decree).

~snip~
Singapore is also a country that has a huge income for every native and immigrant, allowing bitcoin to grow rapidly there, and it is possible to achieve status as a Bitcoin hub and become bigger like El Salvador.

In that case, Singapore would be the first rich country/city that would accept Bitcoin as legal tender, which would be a departure from what we can currently see - which is that mainly poor countries are interested in Bitcoin in this sense. In this context, it makes no sense to compare Singapore with El Salvador, which are two completely different worlds, especially when it comes to welfare and economy.
4139  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: help needed I got attacked by hacker??? on: August 20, 2022, 10:48:14 AM
Basically, nobody ever needs an antivirus program if ppl use a common sense and don't become lazy and neglect the common cyber hygiene.

If all people in the world were good and did not have malicious intentions, then we should not lock the doors of our houses/apartments or our cars - but that is not the case in real life, and even less so in the online environment where such dangers are even more pronounced. I'm not one of those who advocate the pointlessness of security software on today's computers, because I think they help more than they hurt - and if the OP had a good AV, he might have prevented the computer from being infected, considering that any good AV will block such downloads or quarantine them in case of a startup.
4140  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How often do you use Bitcoin? on: August 20, 2022, 10:26:26 AM
...
Everyone's mouth is full of adaptation and they wonder why some people or governments are against Bitcoin, and at the same time, with their interpretation of Bitcoin, they are killing its essence...

I agree with your larger interpretation. I just merited that guy because he didn't have any merits.

Bitcoin was born to be used.

Thanks for the explanation, because to some extent I can understand that people who invest only for the sake of profit, everything else is irrelevant to them - so even though I'm a hodler to a greater extent, I still try to contribute to using Bitcoin as well as currency whenever I have the opportunity to do so. When I see how excited people are when they actually buy something for Bitcoin, I wonder why so many people hesitate to do so with so many online stores offering that option.
