4141  Economy / Computer hardware / [SOLD] S17 Pro - 0.005 BTC on: January 21, 2023, 08:56:01 PM
Anyone interested in purchasing an S17 Pro?  Feel free to reach out to me via PM with an offer.  I'm shipping from in the US, so I'd like to keep to shipping in the continental US.  Some details about the machine...  It was just returned from a repair facility with documentation that it has been tested and is working.  It ships without the cables, so you will need those.  I'm looking to accept Bitcoin and can ship the same day if you so desire.  We can use escrow if you pay for it, or you can pay first and I can ship (check my trading history).  Let me know if you have any other questions.
4142  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 21, 2023, 08:37:40 PM
With LeBron James likely to break Kareem’s scoring record in less than 10 games, it’s time to start watching the scoring tracker.

https://www.nba.com/news/lebron-james-scoring-tracker

I’m hoping he does it on a night where I’m able to watch. I’m sure he’ll probably try and time it. The NBA has got to be pressuring him to do it on ESPN or TNT. This might not seem like a big deal to some people, but this could very well be one of those games like Kobe’s retirement game, where it’s a special moment you want to witness.
4143  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [POLL] Using AI to predict outcomes on: January 21, 2023, 08:33:56 PM
ChatGPT is all the rage at the moment. I’ve seen that people are asking it to predict sporting events. Would you leave gambling decisions up to artificial intelligence? Do you see any potential drawbacks for outsourcing your bets to a software program? Has anyone here tried this yet? Do we need someone to put together a thread of ChatGPT predictions to see how accurate they are?  Any other thoughts?

There are companies out there who specialise in this sort of thing, but unless the ai has up to the minute inputs of news (like the top striker in a football team got injured the day before the match) then it'd not going to be especially effective. It is only as useful as the data it's been fed. Otherwise you might as well just gather statistics and come to more up to date conclusions based on relevant data.

Ya, I’m not saying it would be reliable in any way. At this point it would mostly be for fun to see if AI could currently even be manipulated into making such predictions. I wouldn’t recommend anyone take out a loan and go all in on whatever ChatGPT says to do. It would be a fun experiment though. I keep saying I need to try it out but I just haven’t made time yet. Free time at the PC is just so valuable…
4144  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we now on Crypto bull run? on: January 21, 2023, 08:30:25 PM
I don’t think we’re in a bull run so much as we were in a manipulated bear market. Exchanges have been taking people’s money, telling them they own Bitcoin when they don’t, and spending their money on shitcoins. That caused the price to fall as BTC wasn’t actually being purchased. Now entities are going bankrupt left and right and whoever wants to survive needs to scoop up BTC that their clients think they own. This is causing a return to the norm. Congrats to anyone who was able to accumulate at the manipulated price below $20K.

Wild Lakers win, Grizzlies thought that they are cruising into the game, but the Lakers didn't give up and made defensive stops specially in the last 4 minutes of the game. I think it was just the breaks for them, Dennis with a steal and then the go ahead basket and lead.

Brandon Clarke missing the 2nd free throw that could have tied the game.

So the 11 game winning streak has been put on a stop by the Lakers.

Yes, the Lakers pleasantly surprised us this time, and I think many fans were impressed with their defense in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. By the way, the Lakers were down by 5 points with 1 minute left in the fourth quarter, and the fact that they managed to steal the win in the final seconds was really impressive. So if Schroder, Westbrook, and other teammates fight to win every game like that, the Lakers will still have a chance to make the playoffs.

Yeah, LeBron seems like he’s trying his best to carry that team to a few wins. So far they’ve been doing prettt well since the turn of the new year. I’m not sure how long he can keep it up, but with less than a month until he breaks Kareem’s record, you can see he’s on his A game. Hopefully by then Anthony Davis will be back in playing shape and can help LeBron carry the load a bit as they make a playoff run.

^ I like your picks except for the Orlando Magic vs New Orleans Pelicans pick. Orlando is basically tanking to try and get the first pick and CJ McCollum I think is enough for the Pelicans to beat them. We’ll see. When a team is tanking though I never like to give them the benefit of the doubt. There’s no way I’d place a bet for the Magic or the Rockets this season. They just seem way too likely to lose intentionally.

I'd say I'm right with OG on this one, the Pelicans seem to be on another level entirely, and he's pointed out even without Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, CJ McCollum is literally just enough to facilitate a win for the Pelicans.

_______

I'd also love to take the Clippers spread, but I'd have to wait until the lineup is available before making my call, or I'll just settle for the overs without second thoughts, due to how heavy the Spurs have been allowing into the net on their own end of the court.

Looks like I was wrong. The Magic came through with a rare victory. Yet another example of how there’s never a safe bet. McCollum had a bad shooting night and the Magic shot great. That was enough to make the difference. A great bet if you can predict it. I’d still bet against the Magic versus anybody else in the NBA though. They’re obviously tanking.
4147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you want to be great? Then be ready to learn. on: January 21, 2023, 12:28:46 AM
I think forced learning in school about subjects you couldn’t care less about turns a lot of people off to the learning process. Once you find something you love though, learning can be fun and fulfilling. I think if more people were able to learn about subjects they cared about at a younger age, more people would fall in love with the learning process and have a genuine thirst for knowledge.
4148  Other / Politics & Society / Re: why would someone think of suicide? on: January 21, 2023, 12:25:47 AM
If life was a video game, suicide would be like the rage quit. I’ve seen plenty of people throw down controllers and shit off their machines because what was supposed to be fun turned out to be upsetting instead. I’m sure a lot of people feel that way about life. They set out to do good and have fun, but then maybe through circumstances they couldn’t have foreseen, end up in misery. Maybe they feel like the bad outweighs the good and they don’t want to continue anymore. It’s easy to feel that way when things are going bad. You just need to remember that things get better.

How pleasant. I wake up from a nice air-conditioned siesta to see a lovely new AYH. How agreeable.

What did Warren Buffett say about making money while you're sleeping?

Yesterday's little hiatus was just a rest stop, a breather on the way, a chance to pause and see the scenery.

Let's hope the AYHs keep coming until they morph into ATHs.

Go Bitcoin go.

I think they will. This will likely be a year of recovery in my opinion and I’ll be surprised if we don’t end it above $30,000. At the rate we’re going, we may end the quarter above $30,000. We’ll have to wait and see how high we go from here, but I suspect there is a lot of Bitcoin that still needs to be scooped up by intermediaries before everyone who thinks they own Bitcoin actually has Bitcoin backing their deposits.
4150  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Is FTX going for a reopen? on: January 20, 2023, 06:56:39 PM
Even if it did reopen, would anyone use it?  Would it be profitable?  Could you trust that they wouldn't steal your funds again?

I think you'd have to be crazy to use the site after what they did, but people are crazy.  Maybe they'll view it as a way to help make back their own money with their own trading fees.  Who knows?  What I do know is that you don't go back to giving money to the person who just scammed you thinking it will be different this time.  Sure, there are always those who go looking for pain, but in this case, if you'd use FTX knowing the giant hole they have to fill, you probably deserve being involved in their next bankruptcy case as well.

Ain’t it strange that the price is not falling despite the Genesis news?

Not really...  The problem is that Genesis doesn't have the BTC to meet their deposit obligations.  That means they need more BTC and don't have enough.  I don't think this will result in a large amount of BTC hitting the market.  Actually, it will probably result in more BTC being taken off the market as those who depended on Genesis to hold their customer deposits will now have to go purchase BTC on the open market to meet their obligations with their depositors.  It's like a game of musical chairs and you don't want to be the guy left with no BTC when the music stops.  A lot of entities that relied on income from Genesis for their operations are now left scrambling to make their customers whole, which means there will be more failures without the price dropping.

The real question is, do you own any BTC or do you think you do?

4153  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury - February 25 in Saudi Arabia on: January 20, 2023, 06:18:19 PM
I think I’d rather be betting on whether or not this fight takes place. Tommy has ducked Jake so many times now, it seems more like he’s trolling Jake by accepting these fights. If they do fight though, I don’t think Tommy has a chance. I was watching some of his fight videos and he really doesn’t look like a pro fighter. Jake will probably be able to knock him out at which point I think KSI or Nate Diaz would be the next fights to make.

How about the Brooklyn Nets against the Phoenix Suns? That's the 4th consecutive loss of the Nets team without Kevin Durant.
I always thought it will be like the freedom for Kyrie as a lone star, take the lead and showcase how he can shoulder the team to win games.
I guess I am wrong or I expected too much from him.

Actually, Kyrie Irving doesn't need to carry the whole Nets to always win the game even without Durant. Back when the Nets are on a hot streak winning games before Durant got sidelined, it's not that Durant is always the key but their teammates are also doing a great job.

But what happened also to their other teammates? Why have they become underperforming and inconsistent since Durant got injured?

Does it mean that Kyrie as a leader and acting as the main guy doesn't have any impact now on the team?

Kyrie nearly got them the win at the end of the game. He went on a pretty crazy run to make it a 3 point game during the final plays. Not bad. Especially considering he’s not 100% healthy. The Suns showed why they went to the Finals a couple of years ago. They may not be the greatest team, but they do have depth and are capable of winning games without their best players. Surprised they haven’t traded Crowder yet though.
4155  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: QUESTION: For Gambling Enthusiasts ❗❗ on: January 20, 2023, 06:13:42 PM
PvP gambling would be awesome. Many years ago there was a platform that let you gamble against other players in an online mini putt putt game. It was fun. This was pre-crypto. The problem is that people always find a way to cheat or they master certain things so it isn’t as fair as it should be. One day gambling will find its way into popular video game systems though. When you can bet real money against players on your Xbox playing popular games, that will be awesome.
4156  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [POLL] Using AI to predict outcomes on: January 20, 2023, 06:11:03 PM
I don’t think anyone is saying that AI will be able to correctly predict the winner of a sporting event anywhere near 100% accuracy. I’m just curious if it could do better than the average gambler. Maybe put AI to the test in a head to head competition with someone who thinks they are good at sporting predictions to see how they perform. As soon as I figure out how to trick AI into making these predictions, I’ll give it a shot.
4157  Economy / Gambling / Re: Gambler Loses 1.4 million USD in a bet with lower than 1.01 odds! on: January 20, 2023, 06:08:16 PM
Wow. That is an absolutely massive amount of money to lose in hopes of making a 1% gain. I wonder how many times that gambler has thrown around giant sums of money to get an easy score. I also wonder if this will be the last time this is attempted or if they’re so rich that 1.4 million is just play money to them. This is a great tale though for gamblers who chase the easy victories. There are no sure bets.
4158  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Verify your funded items*Cant HoDL if you ain’t GoTL* on: January 19, 2023, 05:29:54 PM
So many folks in this hobby are buying loaded crypto items & just putting them in a safe or under their fuckin mattress without verifying funding… come on people!

There’s active makers right now who have to be pestered numerous times to fund their items or worse yet people find out after it’s too late that an item was never funded.

Personally I verify every single item I buy has the proper address, serial # & is properly funded immediately upon receipt.  I copy the public address to my notes for instant reference so I don’t have to fumble through my case in the future.

Better yet, get a bitcoin tracker app & keep up with your hard earned bits!

I don’t think verifying funding is really the issue to be honest. Are you peeling the collectibles you get to make sure that the private key underneath matches the public key with the funds? If not, you’re still trusting the maker and even if it did, you’re trusting that someone won’t pull a Yogg and empty everything. The bottom line is that no matter how cautious you are, if you buy a loaded collectible from someone, they can rug you. All you can do is try to base your trust decisions on the best available information and in the case of Yogg, people need to have higher standards for who they trust.
4159  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Electric Cars - The future ? on: January 19, 2023, 05:08:15 PM
I've got an electric car on order (Tesla Cybertruck) and also own an electric motorcycle (Sondors Metacycle) and I can say that they are definitely the future.  The idea that I now am able to charge my motorcycle with electricity generated for from the sun at home is pretty awesome to me.  Not to mention things like the motorcycle being totally silent, which trips people out who see it, are a game changer.  Sure, the damage that will be done to the earth to make all these batteries is something nobody wants to really acknowledge, but that's why Elon's going to get us another planet after we destroy this one.  Smiley
4160  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Genesis Bankrupt, Impact on BTC? on: January 19, 2023, 04:58:24 PM
It seemed to have a very small effect on the price when rumours started circling. I’m not sure if all the weak hands & panic sellers have already been shaken out due to FTX.

Maybe we only have mostly strong hands & dip buyers remaining. Are there even any panic sellers left?

I think there are plenty of lettuce handed folks out there.  The thing is, exchanges have been playing fast and loose with customer deposits for some time now.  They are now scooping up BTC to meet their customer obligations and not fall like FTX.  That's causing a rising floor as accumulation is happening.

That being said, thank god I didn't have my BTC in Genesis' hands when they went down.  I did have some funds there earning interest that I removed at the first hint of trouble in the market.  They responded by closing my account (I guess they wanted me to take a massive loss?) which I'm now glad about, because Genesis and Gemini now appear to me to be fraudsters that must forever be avoided.
