4161  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you plan to get out of bitcoin? on: November 25, 2014, 04:47:03 PM
I don't give a crap about price. I will be using bitcoin for the rest of my life. If you are just interested in dollars then by all means go.
4162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Changetip and why it is the killer app that BTC needed on: November 25, 2014, 04:44:59 PM
I think this is cool and all, but... It is not really needed. I can send a tip now to anyone displaying an address.
4163  Other / Politics & Society / Re: bitcoin to fund terrorism on: November 25, 2014, 04:40:19 PM
frankly... you are beyond belief... why would you want digitally traceable thing to finance terror? are you idiots or what?

BTC is PEACE.

I can use bitcoin in a way that is IMPOSSIBLE to trace back to me. When used normally it is psudo-anonymous, but one can easily lean to hide their identity using bitcoin. BTC is not peace. She is a computer program, free of any morality.
4164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mozilla now accept BTC on: November 25, 2014, 04:32:07 PM
Donation sent. Although I used a fake email, I am not willing to donate my identity.
4165  Other / Politics & Society / Re: bitcoin to fund terrorism on: November 25, 2014, 03:42:09 PM
it will not happen. don't worry.
It will certainly happen, and is already done by hackers . A Suicide bomber could be sitting at the embassy holding a large QR code, for the funds to be sent to his boss sitting in another country . Maybe, if that picture gets posted to reddit, it will be more bitcoins sent to him Smiley
I fear your right. Imagine a bomber saying they will blow something up when they receive $10K at a certain address. Or the even more problematic "anonymous assassination market" proposed in the 70's. This system would allow a hitman to get paid anonymously without ever meeting the client.
4166  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Police Officer not indicted in the shooting of Michael Brown on: November 25, 2014, 03:35:33 PM
The MSM is reporting that Officer Wilson was not indicted in the shooting of Michael Brown.

Do you think this is fair? Do you think racist leaders like Al Sharpton and President Obama will cause civil unrest in Fuegerson and elsewhere in the country?

You mean like you?
4167  Other / Politics & Society / Re: bitcoin to fund terrorism on: November 25, 2014, 03:34:20 PM
I think it will happen and may well have already happened. Let's not kid ourselves.
4168  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Wait.... what's wrong with "Obamacare"? on: November 24, 2014, 09:54:57 PM
Buying at the exchange saved me about $2400 last year. I'm going to try for an even better deal this sign-up period.

That is a substantial amount! Do you get the impression that the negativity around "Obamacare" is mostly overblown or do you think that your result is different from what most might experience?
I really don't know? Among a few people I talked to at work, they all saved some. But lucky me, I saved the most. However I don't know how shitty my old plan was. At least at the exchange you can see all the options at once and compare them. It was certainly the first time in many years that I paid less than the previous year.
4169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NSA - BEHIND BITCOIN??? on: November 24, 2014, 09:39:59 PM
The evidence for the NSA's involvement in bitcoin is the same as the evidence that unicorns are involved. That is to say that it exists in the tin foil wrapped heads of a few. There is absolutely not a single shred of actual evidence for it.

You know how stupid this response is?

NSA has controlled crypto around the world for 5 decades

Every major player in crypto has ties to the NSA

Snowden docs prove the NSA has used corrupt keys for years with ECC

ECC is the crypto used in bitcoin core

Koblitz crypto is the exact ecc crypto used and neal koblitz has ties to the NSA

yet you think no shred of evidence

THE ABOVE IS PROOF the NSA is connected to anything in crypto world

And it shows crypto that they have back doors to is what bitcoin uses

haha

Well I agree that the NSA is very involved in cryptography. That does not mean that they made my Cap'n crunch decoder ring or bitcoin. When you say they have a "back door" in bitcoin, please show me where that is in the source code.
4170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you USE your BTC? on: November 24, 2014, 06:57:42 PM
Bought for BTC, connected to service provider and VPN, also with bitcoin.
The best part is that when I went looking for an unlocked phone and simm cards, all the market leaders already took bitcoin! I had the choice of buying the phone from three different retailers, all competing on bitcoin price.

4171  Other / Meta / Re: Why can't we tip on here? on: November 24, 2014, 06:49:37 PM
I just sent the OP a tip and can confirm that tipping is allowed.  Grin

4173  Economy / Speculation / Re: when to invest? on: November 24, 2014, 03:35:29 PM
If you think bitcoin is an investment then you have already made a mistake. It is a payment network and the currency that runs on it, nothing more. No person on Earth can answer your questions about future value. Many will claim too, but some people have always claimed to be able to see the future. Buy some bitcoin then go shopping online with it and you will better understand BTC.
4174  Other / Off-topic / Re: The craziest shit you can buy with bitcoins right now? on: November 24, 2014, 03:15:17 PM
Not really crazy, but I just bought this unlocked phone, sim card, and VPN service with bitcoin. I needed some double sim phones in a fake name for travel overseas.

4176  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama says FCC should reclassify internet as a utility on: November 20, 2014, 06:40:07 PM
I trust my government a million times more than I trust my ISP. That is the bottom line for me.

The point you are missing is that in a free market, you don’t need to trust your ISP as competition will provide you with options.

What you don’t believe or fail to understand is that regulatory capture of your government is precisely what stifles competition. This is what the quote from Eric S. Raymond about “asymmetric power” means.

So yes the monopolistic telcos are on their knees praying that you will trust the government more than the free market, because the more power you give to the government to regulate, the stronger their monopolies will become.

This has been proven over and over to always be the outcome in all of recorded human history. The mathematical reason was explained by Mancur Olson’s book, The Logic of Collective Action.

I don’t expect you to be able to wrap your mind around this, because the reason socialists are socialists is because they don’t have the IQ to reason rationally at this high level.

And evolution is at work (over and over throughout recorded human history since Mesopotamia) to cull the population of the low IQ fools (via the war, eugenics, genocide, rationing, and totalitarian megadeath that results from peaking socialism when it runs out of other people's resources to steal, ahem redistribute) so the human race can get smarter and advance knowledge. So sorry for you, you haven’t been able to grasp how to survive.

As well,

Quote from: Dr. Richard Stallman, Why Open Source misses the point of Free Software link=https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/open-source-misses-the-point.html
When we call software “free,” we mean that it respects the users' essential freedoms: the freedom to run it, to study and change it, and to redistribute copies with or without changes. This is a matter of freedom, not price, so think of “free speech,” not “free beer.”

These freedoms are vitally important. They are essential, not just for the individual users' sake, but for society as a whole because they promote social solidarity—that is, sharing and cooperation. They become even more important as our culture and life activities are increasingly digitized. In a world of digital sounds, images, and words, free software becomes increasingly essential for freedom in general.

Tens of millions of people around the world now use free software; the public schools of some regions of India and Spain now teach all students to use the free GNU/Linux operating system. Most of these users, however, have never heard of the ethical reasons for which we developed this system and built the free software community, because nowadays this system and community are more often spoken of as “open source”, attributing them to a different philosophy in which these freedoms are hardly mentioned.

. . .

Eric S Raymond worked hard to move to the term “open source” instead of Richard Stallman’s “free software”, because the latter is communism which is an abject failure.

The key difference between that Stallman and the FSF advocate the oxymoronic use of coercion (force) to maintain freedom (specifically the FSF GPL standard license forces some actions and limits other actions), thus it exhibits the loss of liberty that is the hallmark of Communism.

You can listen to Eric S. Raymond on this topic at the following video of a Java Users Group presentation where “viral contamination” means coercion in the GPL license:

http://jobtipsforgeeks.com/2012/05/17/lessons-from-a-jug-talk-with-eric-esr-raymond/

Quote from: Eric S. Raymond
...Nobody can take those freedoms away from us anymore; we have the internet. We have the way to migrate our software development out of the reach of any particular jurisdiction that goes idiotic. We have the code; they can’t take the code away from us...

Jump to the 9:15 min point in the video.

I do NOT trust my ISP or that the capitalist system we have in America will do anything except sell me out. What your saying about the free market sounds good, but communism also sounds good on paper. I have never in my life seen so called "competition" among media providers lead to anything but higher prices and shitty service.  That magic of the market stuff is BS unless you have a true free market. In which case you would need to have net-neutrality.
4177  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ISIS to create own coin. How can we convince to use Bitcoin? on: November 20, 2014, 04:22:51 PM
We are talking about gold coins here, and fake gold coins. Not easy.
It depends. It would be very hard to fool a jeweler, but a gold colored coin is enough to disrupt a lot of transactions. You can easily electroplate a copper coin with a little zinc then heat treat it and turn it gold (brass really).

why moderator stop this thread?Huh?

 Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

it makes no sense to continue to talk about these things ... especially here !!!
Ideas are not censored here. Supplying IS with bitcoin or buying one of their coins is material support. Talking about their plans to make coins is not.

Also, WTF is Kevin Dowd?

Hello everyone, I'm new to Bitcoin and came across this forum in my searches. I thought it would be a good idea to register here and see what this is all about.

I run a grow store outside of Calgary and am interested in Bitcoin for my shop. I also just learned about alternates to Bitcoin. Like penny stocks. I will probably invest in those too. Anyways, my journey begins...

Hi and welcome fellow peer!
I highlighted some of your quote because I just wanted to make something clear that is often confused. Bitcoin was NOT intended as an investment or financial instrument and does not perform like one. It could not be further from a stock. A LOT of people "invest" in bitcoin and end up very disappointed. Yo could buy some and have the value increase. Or it may drop 50% in a week.

If you really want to try bitcoin you may consider using bitcoin as a payment network. That is what it is, and you will better understand why it is important when you buy things in the fastest, cheapest, and most secure way possible. Unlike your other money it will work anywhere and you can trade with anyone.

P.S. Penny stocks are worth pennies for a reason. They are fun to day trade, but it's about as good a bet as the casino.
4180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ISIS to create own coin. How can we convince to use Bitcoin? on: November 19, 2014, 08:46:41 PM
If you think it is that easy, ok.
Maybe? it has been done many times before. Iran, for example, has Americas old printing presses and tries counterfeiting vast sums to buy things and de-value the dollar. The British tried it against America during the revolution. The Nazi's tried it against the British in WW2.

Write "Muhammed is a motherfucker" into the blockchain and you are safe.

lol, bloody brilliant.

A weakness of a group like them are their superstitious beliefs.  If you curse the blockchain with blasphemous remarks they may stay away from it.
