4181  Other / Meta / Re: Poll on solving the imgur issue on: May 25, 2023, 07:17:36 AM
to prevent this from happening again, you'll get an error if you try to embed imgur images in posts from now on.
This also means old posts can no longer be edited without replacing the image links (I just tested it).
4182  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Basic help using Abra (beginner!) on: May 25, 2023, 07:07:14 AM
she now only uses cryptocurrency
This is a big red flag, I find this very hard to believe. Is she the one who recommended this unknown "Abra" wallet? Note that it's not even a wallet, as wallets don't have minimum deposit limitations, it sounds like a centralized platform.
4183  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: When GDPR-fork happens in blockchains.. on: May 25, 2023, 05:32:31 AM
The relevance here is that someone who makes a transaction is intentionally and actively broadcasting that transaction and all of the information contained within to the entire world.
Someone could broadcast someone else's dox.

Quote
I think that demanding that the entire world destroy that information is unreasonable.
Not only that, it's futile. The whole point of decentralization is that no single institution has a say in it.
4184  Economy / Services / Re: LoyceV's Avatar for Rent [first 🦊🦊🦊🦊4 YEARS🦊🦊🦊🦊 rented out] on: May 24, 2023, 06:20:46 PM
Two hundred and eighteenth week paid.
Thanks again for your flawless timing!
4185  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: When GDPR-fork happens in blockchains.. on: May 24, 2023, 04:50:14 PM
you know how lawmakers think! they say there could be an encrypted database in a firm that holds the equivalent of some bitcoin addresses to personal data of its customers for KYC, and one day this could get broken and publish in the internet! but please also consider that the GDPR is not just for anonymous blockchains, there may be a blockchain (permissioned) which uses people's SSN as address and their published records should be erasure by the article 17..
You can put your full personal data as OP_RETURN in the blockchain, or with the crazy image uploading nowadays you could even add your picture. GDPR can say whatever they want, from Bitcoin's perspective, this is the reality:
Quote from: theymos in 2017
I intend to ignore all stupidity coming out of the EUSSR.
The only way to remove a certain OP_RETURN that's in the blockchain 50,000 blocks is by creating a longer chain starting from an earlier block. It's not going to happen.

2. true. just pointing to the FORK in confronting GDPR is because of its classic definition where we say if you have problem with the main root of a blockchain, fork it and begin your own root. so when you say: "I want my records between 2010-2015 get forgotten in a blockchain X", this could get called as a very special micro-fork within a chain. therefore, its "reorg" should now be a special one too, which have called it "reorg_gdpr"..
Creating your own Fork doesn't change the main chain. It's as futile as deleting your local copy of the blockchain and pretending all data is gone.
You can't just edit some data in some old block, without that data the rest of the chain can no longer be verified.
4186  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BetterCallRaul.it Domain Seized or Scammed on: May 24, 2023, 04:29:10 PM
If there is one individual who have been scam then it is Royse777 as he has to pay the campaign participants from his own pockets.
Agreed. If Royse777 doesn't think a scam accusation is warranted yet, I'd just wait. OP hasn't been scammed.

The escrow details aren't even public:
As the campaign manager, I hold 0.0540 BTC (≈ $1,500) in escrow to guarantee payment for members. Raśl will top up the address regularly as the campaign progresses each week.

ESCROW INFORMATION
Private (Only accepted members are allowed to check)

I think OP should have posted is an exit scam warning
There's no point: the website is gone.

Quote
I am inclined to believe that the seizing of their website is fake.
I'm not buying it either. Then again, nothing makes sense:
None of this makes sense:
  • If it's hacked, I'd expect the hacker to replace deposit addresses to steal funds.
  • If it's seized, I'd expect the DNS entry to be changed. I wouldn't expect to recycle CM's logo, and I wouldn't expect the exact same list of government organisations to be involved.
  • If it's an exit scam, it makes no sense to pretend to be seized while they could still be collecting deposits. And nobody so far said they've been scammed.
  • If they just quit because it's not profitable, they could have just said so.
This happened exactly 3 months after the domain name was registered.
4187  Other / Meta / Re: Thread banners (SMF idea) on: May 24, 2023, 01:42:43 PM
If I catch you "bumping" your application or if you re-apply (while having left your application here some time in the last 2 weeks), you'll be put on ignore and forfeit any chance of joining this campaign in the future.
A lot of applicants are just flat-out ignoring those requests
It's a feature, not a bug! (source unknown) A simple "reading test" makes it easy to reject the first batch of participants:
Not reading the rules of a campaign is a very good indication that those people don't care what they post on the forum. Reading the rules is also part of my selection procedure, if someone applies without reading, that means he's just wasting my time and gets rejected.

What do you guys think of a feature that would let the OP of a topic specify some "banner" text that would appear at the top and bottom of every page of that thread (maybe in a colored box, or something)?
My main concern is (as always): please don't break my 10,000 different scrapers Tongue
Other than that, I can think of a few potential pitfalls: What if there's spam in the banner, can we report it? Can we Merit it? Can we quote it?

Like this one?

This would be good, it doesn't interfere with any of my scraping.
4188  Other / Meta / Re: Can you create animated signatures here? on: May 24, 2023, 01:29:41 PM
The day Bitcointalk allows animated signatures, is the day I'm going to enable "Don't show users' signatures".

Once in a while I see "the internet" without Adblock Plus and without "image.animation_mode once", and I hate it with a passion. I'm okay with some ads and some animations, but it quickly gets overused.
4189  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Menbership- 3.5m registered only 56k members survived?..... Why? on: May 24, 2023, 01:24:58 PM
i felt that the energy is not longer the same, other DT members seems not to care anymore sorry to say
It's been like that for years. If a few people don't care, it doesn't matter much. But if too many people don't care:
we're screwed big time.
4190  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Menbership- 3.5m registered only 56k members survived?..... Why? on: May 24, 2023, 11:17:58 AM
It's been a long time since I've seen somebody kicked off the DT for misusing the trust system; I've seen a profile painted red just because a DT member thought his comments was a joke.
That's (also) on you: by not excluding users who's judgement you don't trust, you're not doing what a good DT1-member should do. See dtview: at the bottom of the list are 9 DT1-members who are "kicked off" by other DT1-members. Theymos doesn't (have to) interfere here, it's up to DT1 to keep DT1 clean.
4191  Economy / Reputation / Re: 20000 posts - race to 50k on: May 24, 2023, 10:14:38 AM
Let's play a game.
The odd for LFC to reach 50k first is 2.90 and for you [LoyceV] 1.43

Last time to bet 30th May 2023 Universal Time.
Maximum bet $100.
~
Who wants me to drop a BTC address to active the market? 🤣
Lol. At the rate I'm going, it's going to take me at least 8 more years to reach 50k posts. By then, I expect Bitcoin to be worth significantly more than it is currently worth, so sending 0.003739 BTC now to get back $143 (maybe 0.0005 BTC by then?) is a terrible "bet" Tongue
What odds do you have on ChartBuddy vs philipma1957?

OP is so quiet now, afraid to spoil the nice round 20000?
4192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: To run a full bitcoin node? on: May 24, 2023, 10:03:58 AM
Raspberry Pi isn't designed to work 24/7 either
Most consumer hardware isn't specifically designed for 24/7 operation (opposed to server hardware), but in most cases it's totally fine to keep it on for years in a row. In my experience, all you have to do is regularly clean the cooling system from dust. Hardware without a fan is even easier.

They are, don't worry.. Cheesy
Exactly!

Yeah, just make sure it's not too hot/humid and then most computer should able to run 24/7 with little or no problem.
I've never considered humidity, but that might come with the climate here. As long as the hardware is slightly warmer than it's surroundings, I don't expect condensation. I've seen problems with using cold laptops (coming from outside) in a warm room though, but ironically that's from turning it off, not from keeping it on Smiley

OP has long abandoned this topic, and I don't believe he cares. So OP goes on ignore so I don't fall for this again.
4193  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Menbership- 3.5m registered only 56k members survived?..... Why? on: May 24, 2023, 09:53:04 AM
My ~ is a drop in the ocean.
That's the beauty of decentralization (or democracy for that matter): the same applies to everyone else. If everyone excludes anyone who they think uses the Trust system incorrectly, the result should be a more or less acceptable average. Or we're screwed big time.
4194  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: How do I recover password? on: May 24, 2023, 09:13:04 AM
Is this some sort of advertising?

OP has created 9 topics so far, and only once responded in one of them again. Ten minutes before he created the current topic, he created this one, and 10 minutes after he posted this, and instantly left. I don't believe OP really lost access to his Bitcoin.

The website posted by OP is not a wallet, it's a website. Sending funds to a website has different risks than sending funds to a wallet.
4195  Other / Meta / Re: Logging in by signing a Bitcoin message on: May 24, 2023, 08:03:22 AM
It's like actual real world development of Bitcoin stopped half a decade ago
what do you think?
It's the typical finger pointing to others.

Using a Bitcoin private key to login only makes it more secure if you sign offline, but nobody is going to do that all the time. Installing any browser addon is a security risk.
Signing in to websites through the browser has worked fine for decades, just because something is new, doesn't mean it's better to use it. How many of the "blockchain is going to disrupt whatever industry" BS still exists after a few years? There's no point in complicating things just for the sake of claiming "we're using Bitcoin" while it has nothing to do with Bitcoin.

@OP: Read theymos' Topic title style guide.
4196  Economy / Services / Re: [updated] LoyceV's convenient (paid) service for signature campaign managers on: May 24, 2023, 07:27:07 AM
I guess it's not possible to display the BBcode alongside the modified signature, is it?
It's not really possible. I download the HTML, and even if I could convert it to BBcode, I think there are different BBCodes that can produce the same HTML (for instance depending on the use of nbsp.
4197  Economy / Services / Re: [Available] 💹📈 Bitcointalk Campaign Management 💪🔥 Signature & Bounty on: May 23, 2023, 04:52:38 PM
Quoting from another topic:
Having to pay out of pocket because of issues like this is every manager's worse nightmare but then it is a necessary evil just to maintain their reputation and keep the users happy.
Suggestion: shouldn't you add a rule to all your campaigns that payments depend on funds being transferred to you? I expect most people to be okay with that, but you can't do it if it's not clear from the start. That means, if your escrow address isn't replenished on time, you should post a warning that users can remove their signature, or continue in the campaign with the risk of not getting paid. It's better if you're not liable for third-party actions.
4198  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Importing an old v0.3.0 wallet.dat - is my plan sound? on: May 23, 2023, 11:01:26 AM
Will do more backups now.
That's a little.... late Tongue Your old wallet.dat's backups are now only useful for Forkcoins, and your Ledger backup words should have been very safe already.
To think about: are your seed words still safe if your house burns down? And can a burglar find them?

Quote
am working right now!
Good, keeping a low profile instead of instantly quitting and buying a Lambo Cheesy

One more thing to think about: never sell everything! You've ("accidentally"?) been hodling Bitcoin for 13 years and it got you your riches, but who knows what another 13 years will bring for Bitcoin. So my advice (after years on this forum): sell some, but keep some Smiley
4199  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: ✅ [ANN] Bettercallraul.it No KYC Crypto Exchange | LOW FEES & Private | CLI ✅ on: May 23, 2023, 10:51:17 AM
They had their own token $RAUL.
That brings me back to ICO-times with shady pump and dumbs dumps.

When something like this comes up, the bullies and DT oppressors avoid participating in the conversation.
Who exactly are you pointing at? Name them, so they can read this topic Smiley
Also: if you believe someone abuses DT, exclude them. Others may or may not agree with you, but at least DT will be a tad more decentralized again.
