4181  Economy / Exchanges / Re: "Decentralized" exchange dYdX confirms blocking accounts linked to tonado cash on: August 14, 2022, 01:10:24 PM
It seems that the fall of that mixer has a little more consequences, unlike all those mixers that suffered a similar fate in the past. The funds that passed through that mixer are obviously under surveillance, and there are more and more cases where users of different platforms report blocked accounts. The thing is even stranger because you didn't even have to be a user of that mixer for it to cause you problems.

Question is do you still believe in these "DEXES" that are run by smart contracts and who devs can just wake up any day and make tweaks based on their mood or emotions?

I have never believed and will never believe in those fairy tales, and I hope that one day people will come to their senses and realize how susceptible the whole thing is to manipulation.

I bought many tokens, the price is now much lower than the money I bought it with. Is there a possibility that the market will rise in the future?

It seems to me that you earned those tokens in bounty campaigns, but the crypto market crash caught you sleeping and now you are wondering if it is better to sell now or wait for another bull run. As others have said, it all depends on what you bought and whether any of it will survive the current bear market, and it is no secret that the rise in the price of Bitcoin causes the rise in the price of altcoins.

When you bought those tokens, you actually decided to gamble, and now you have to decide whether, in card terminology, you want to take one more card and take a risk, or if you will play with the cards you have.

My suggestion is that you spend less time on bounty campaigns and more on some more useful things - the forum is much bigger than Altcoins boards.
4183  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What I have learned about Bitcoin on: August 14, 2022, 10:49:10 AM
We estimate it to be around 1% but I wonder how you came up with such an exact number as 1.3%?

Some research that has been mentioned in the last year has said that this number is closer to 5%, although it is possible that it is about the percentage of users of cryptocurrencies in general, and not only those who own Bitcoin. However, 1% seems too small to me because it would amount to only about 80 million people considering that the current number of people on earth is about 8 billion.

I will share a link with a lot of interesting information for those who might be interested in this -> How Many People Own & Hold Bitcoin?
4184  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Help - Hardware Wallet on: August 14, 2022, 10:25:33 AM
If anyone has any experience with hardware wallets, can you please help me out for when I should go for Ledger or Trezor? Thank you!

@Pmalek wrote a good post and listed all the important things to consider before choosing a hardware wallet. However, I would add that people are starting to think that HW is some kind of ultimate solution for storing cryptocurrencies, while there is still a much safer solution in the form of creating something we call a cold wallet.

The term "cold wallet" is also often used when referring to hardware wallets, although this name is correct only for those devices that never connect to the Internet - be it a smartphone or a computer. I think there are already a lot of people who have realized the risks that come from buying and using hardware wallets, whether it's about their personal safety, or the safety of their crypto assets.

I don't want to say that hardware wallets are bad because in any case, they contribute to security, but we should point out the possibility that each user can create his own hardware wallet, which can be far more secure than any commercial HW on the market if it is created correctly.
4185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Peter Schiff’s Bank Set To Be Liquidated; Will He Finally Turn To Bitcoin (BTC)? on: August 14, 2022, 10:05:32 AM
It is interesting to watch what will happen next.

I'm just wondering what's interesting and what should happen next? Who in their right mind thinks that Peter Schiff will turn a new page in his life and start investing in Bitcoin, while at the same time calling his own son a brainwashed investor because he invests in Bitcoin?

The time you spent waiting for people like this to change their minds is really time wasted.
4186  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Pishing alert: Fake EXODUS e-mail on: August 13, 2022, 03:28:55 PM
I think the most likely thing here is simply that after entering those 6 words, you may very well end up on a page asking you for the other 6. The switched up order is probably just a poor attempt to make it seem more "official" and less scammy.

I tried to check that theory using the link posted in the OP, but I only get a blank page. I think your theory makes sense, although the one who exposes his seed in this way will not be less suspicious if someone asks for only 6 or all 12 words.

To brute force 6 words using these numbers, you would need to multiply those numbers by 20482. However, they ask for the 12th checksum word, so that would reduce the computational requirements as you could reject 15/16 seed phrases for failing the checksum and not have to turn the seed phrase in to an address to check for balance, which is the computational expensive part of the process. Even so, some very rough calculations puts that at ~$100 million over 900 years, or a far higher cost to rent better/more hardware and do that in anything approaching a reasonable time frame. So unless they know for a fact your Exodus wallet is holding hundreds of thousands of bitcoin, then only an idiot would attempt it.

I suspected that it was a big number when it comes to the time for brute force, which completely removes any doubt that this scammer can do something with only 6 words. However, some people are quite convinced that making a winning combination of 2048 words is more likely than winning the lottery, which is of course far from the truth.
4187  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My 3060Ti build caused fire today on: August 13, 2022, 03:00:23 PM
I am very careful with all devices and often check their cables, even though I am not a miner, but the house/apartment can also catch fire from a short circuit caused by a TV, microwave or a regular desktop computer. If you are going somewhere for a long time, always disconnect all unnecessary devices from the socket, so not only will you prevent a possible fire or damage from a lightning strike, but you will also save some electricity because the devices consume even in standby mode.

When it comes to mining, some may cause a fire, while others lose their lives, which reminded me of a case from a year ago.

37-year-old police officer Maja Marković died due to an unfortunate combination of circumstances - namely, on the glazed terrace of the apartment, she and her husband kept several computers that were used for cryptocurrency mining. On that day, it started raining in Belgrade, and the unfortunate owner wanted to move two computers from the open terrace into the apartment.
In the process, as it turns out, she touched the power cable of one of the computers, suffered an electric shock and died on the spot.

~snip~

I therefore separate private from business, and on my private number I still have all the important people in the phone book and I can allow myself to have very strict options for blocking calls and messages. I think that these options are very useful because it is possible to block by the prefix of a network or country, and in my country people often complain about being called from countries where they have no relatives or friends.

Besides that, I'm happy because for several years I've had a "Do not call" registry where I can enter a number and save myself from anyone who sells something over the phone.
4189  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: There must be some don't do with hardware wallets or there is none? on: August 13, 2022, 01:59:11 PM
Hardware wallets can save the users funds even if the device is affected with malicious software and that is actually the primary reason for the existence of hardware wallets if I am not wrong.

Exactly, every action on the device itself (HW) must be approved by the owner by pressing a button, and this includes checking the coin address, the amount we send in the transaction and fees, and the final confirmation that we want to make the transaction. With this, we can prevent the clipboard malware from replacing the destination address and thus stealing the amount we want to send.

However, the biggest benefit of the hardware wallet is that it generates a backup (seed) in a secure offline environment and that this seed is not displayed anywhere else except on our device (HW) only once when the device is initialized.

The real problem is in the way users keep/save that seed, which is often the cause of the so-called hacking of hardware wallets. As I have already written several times, the weakest link in all this is the user himself.
4190  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: August 13, 2022, 01:35:53 PM
@mk4&@NotATether, I think we have been able to conclude so far that CM does not base its business on some kind of half-assed security solutions when it comes to staying out of the reach of those who would like to disable them in what they do. When we talk about mixers that have been caught in various traps over the years, we are talking about a rather amateurish job on the part of their owners - and the last case also belongs to that category.
4191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt Gox Upcoming release of funds to its creditors vs Btc Price on: August 13, 2022, 01:18:10 PM
~snip~

This whole drama about Mt.Gox is a great shame for Japan as a country, because they have shown how ineffective they have become when it comes to justice. But I am even more surprised that people in some sensationalistic way try to present the situation of refunding funds to damaged clients and that this has been going on for months.

From some previous topics it was possible to find out that 3 payment options are available to clients - cash to bank account, Bitcoin or BCH. It is also known that the payments will be made gradually, that is, not everyone will receive their funds on the same day. When these facts are taken into account, why does anyone expect that around 140 000 BTC will be dumped on the market at one point and that this will cause a new crash?

I read some comments from the link posted in the OP and one comment caught my attention - if there is anyone who is expecting payment from Mt.Gox, can they confirm that they haven't even asked for BTC addresses to return BTC?

Quote
@TheZadok
People continue to talk #mtgox as if they know. Point to false articles. Nothing this month. They haven't even asked for a #bitcoin address yet. It's just fear to fit a narrative. Maybe I should start an ask a creditor thread lmao 🤣  relax. Will post when it's coming #btc $btc
4192  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum New UX/UI. on: August 13, 2022, 11:07:27 AM
@Charles-Tim, it's true that you can't always rely on the algorithm that calculates the fee when it comes to Electrum, I think there was a discussion on that topic in the past. For this reason, I always use other sources to look at the actual state of the mempool and accordingly set the fee that suits me best at that moment.

Currently, mempool.space has all fees at 1-4 sat/vB, and Electrum (mobile) shows different suggestions in relation to which method of determining the fees you choose. This can confuse some users, especially the way it changes between the 3 options (nowhere does it say "click this to change fee setup option").
4193  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Pishing alert: Fake EXODUS e-mail on: August 13, 2022, 10:48:20 AM
@Pmalek, I personally don't know if there is any possibility that the person behind this phishing knows something that we don't (which I really doubt). The choice of words that are being searched for is definitely interesting, and maybe that is the key to trying to brute force the other words in some way.

I think @o_e_l_e_o could help us clarify if there really is something here, or if someone simply messed up because they didn't simply look for all 12 words.
4194  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Pishing alert: Fake EXODUS e-mail on: August 12, 2022, 02:59:51 PM
It really is a mystery, why the hackers attempt with only 6 words...

It doesn't seem like a mystery to me, but like a bad and amateur phishing attempt, considering that there are also very obvious grammatical errors that point to a very low level of knowledge of the English language. The person who made this page obviously does not know that Exodus has a seed of 12 words - which means that some kid played a little bit in the hope that he will succeed in scamming someone.

Do not share your seed with anyone and all such attempts will not pose any danger to you.
4195  Economy / Speculation / Re: do u think the BTC bottom is in...? on: August 12, 2022, 02:21:38 PM
I’m hopeful but not convinced that the bottom is in. During the 2018-19 bear market we sat at $6,000 for what felt like a long time before we got rugged & dumped to $3,xxx. In 2019 we went to $13,xxx or something. I remember definitely thinking the bottom was in then before we dumped.

We could easily go to $12,000 or something before the next bull cycle starts after the halving.

I’m covered either way, can’t lie it’d be nice to grab a load of bitcoin low but if not whatever, let’s moon Smiley

I also think in a similar way, because regardless of what happened in the past, we must take into account what did not exist then, namely inflation, war and a possible recession. All this will probably affect the extended bear market, and possibly a new bottom, regardless of the fact that many think that we have completely got away with it.

Inflation hit the middle class and the poor the most, because prices really went wild and some food products are even 100% more expensive, not to mention the price of fuel, electricity, gas or electricity. I think that the average person today has nothing or very little left after paying all the expenses, and therefore cannot invest in anything including Bitcoin.
4196  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum New UX/UI. on: August 12, 2022, 01:46:12 PM
It's very bad if the problem lies so deep.
Maybe then it will be possible to spend this money to pay programmers.
I like electrum and I use almost all its features.
But the design of the Android app repels many People.
It just upsets me.

I use the mobile version of Electrum from time to time and what is important to me is its functionality and that it has regular updates like the desktop version. A new generation of young people who put design first, and only then functionality and safety, often find themselves in trouble because of this.

In addition, Electrum developers are not very active on this forum, so this is the wrong address for such questions.
4197  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have a doubt about Bitcoin on: August 12, 2022, 12:57:12 PM
There seem to be too much development taking place on bitcoin. Changes always being proposed. How are we ever going to be able to trust that bitcoin will never change if people are always trying to propose changes to it and get it implemented.

You are right when you say that some changes are happening when it comes to Bitcoin, and we can discuss whether they are good or bad, but as many others have already said, these changes do not change the very essence of what Bitcoin represents. People believe in the Bitcoin that was given to us by Satoshi, but even during the time when he was active, many changes happened and this is a completely natural course of events if you want to improve any product.

#1: that kind of ruins the idea that bitcoin is going to be the same today as it was yesterday and tomorrow. today they might be proposing a change to some fee mechanism. tomorrow it might be changing the max supply.

The idea of changing the max supply is radical and does not have many supporters, because it is essentially negative and would cause a lot of damage in the short term, but also in the long term. You have to accept that everything in life changes, whether it's about you as a person, the computer you use every day, or the car you drive - so you can't expect Bitcoin to stay the same forever.

Anyone that's ever tried and program some simple software and then later on come back and add new things into it it can end up being a nightmare to try and understand and maintain the code...there's alot of bitcoin users out there who don't understand this aspect of bitcoin at all!

The average Bitcoin user will never be able to understand some complicated technical things, but does that mean that you should lose faith in Bitcoin because of that? At the end of the day, no one is in a position to have to believe in Bitcoin, it's a matter of personal choice - if you have doubts try to remove them, or just stop believing.

You might want to google "saki airbase" and visit this. Your superstars have hit rock bottom faster than Lindsay Lohan!

What is all the data worth when the average Russian believes that it is all just Western propaganda and that the Russians, like in 1945, are liberating Europe from nazism and fascism... I understand that in every war there are those who fight for money and spoils of war, but that so much death and destruction has not yet opened the eyes of the average Russian to understand that wars of conquest in the 21st century are not something they should agree to.

First, young naive people die, and then their fathers come next - and right now, people aged 55+ are being mobilized. The fact is that 80% of them will never return to their homes. They say they're called tigers, but to me they look like old and battered cats (cannon fodder).

His own son doesn't trust him when it comes to financial advice, which just goes to show that people like Peter Schiff are slowly but surely becoming the minority. He calls his son and other young people "brainwashed" because they accept new technologies and alternatives like Bitcoin, which clearly shows us that such people will not change their opinion in the near future, and maybe never.

The entire territory of Ukraine is completely shot through by Russian land, air and sea-based missiles, and the missile defense of Ukraine cannot do anything about it - this is a fact. Grin

Of course you use your technical superiority to shoot like real cowards from afar and kill children in schools and people in shopping centers, but in close battles Ukrainians teach you lessons about what it means to be a true patriot. When Ukrainians target legitimate military targets anywhere in the occupied territory, you call them terrorists...

The Russian Aerospace Forces are in good technical shape and excellent combat tone. Front-line aviation performs combat missions every day, mainly at ultra-low altitudes beyond the reach of radars and brings terror to the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

We saw this a few days ago, when the Ukrainians prepared summer fireworks for you in Crimea, even 300 kilometers from the front line - the superior planes of the fifth and sixth generation did not even manage to take off - a great success of the Russian military aviation. Money and military supremacy are not always decisive in war, and your Serbian brothers can confirm that because they are still whining about the defeat they experienced more than 30 years ago.

The superstar of this operation is the Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter.

You mean these superior helicopters that the Ukrainians destroy without any problems?
