^ Combined 1.5B losses doesn't sound as bad as how much the last big stablecoin lost in pure BTC reserves.

Definitely more hurt for Saylor and far, far less for Elon ... when considering how much Tesla/MicroStrategy stocks themselves lost in the same period MS lost over $4B (still can't believe this guy put so much in BTC), Tesla over $500B, in just 2 months! Too lazy to look up how much shares of own company each personally has.

They definitely got tears in multiple buckets, not just BTC.
4182  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Act to defend privacy or resign ourselves to its loss? on: June 15, 2022, 05:39:34 AM
I admit in the last 5/6 years I've definitely been more lax with privacy, due to relocation to Europe, where everything almost requires identification for the rights to reside. Lived and worked about 15 years prior in the global south and have managed to largely get by without so much as an email address.
Overall I think all of us are more lax with privacy in some situations.  It is nowadays just impossible to stay fully private because at the end of the day that means fully isolating yourself out of society.  This can go from basic things like ordering something online on a fake name and address to extreme situations like not willing to go out without covering your face or using these anti surveillance eyewear to make sure cameras do not catch you.

The reality is, the more paranoid and extreme you are, the more isolated you will end up from the society.  And just like you say, there are places where you simply can not go through the daily life as a normal citizen without having to show your ID somewhere, pay with card or whatever else.  Maybe 30 years ago it was different.  But with technology, it becomes just so hard to be fully free and private and some situations require you giving up this paranoia or you will not be able to do usual stuff like taxes and all of that.  Sucks, but it is what it is.

-
Regards,
PrivacyG

Some parts of the world still possible to maintain privacy more than others, today, as much as 30 years ago. I wasn't really paranoid or extreme in my pre-Europe life (circa 2016). It was simply that it was either possible to live without social media or smartphone (very successfully even without television or much internet for me up until 2013), or impossible to connect to them (no internet infrastructure).

And just simple practices made necessary by living conditions as a foreigner in impoverished places -- never take the same route same time, never let a taxi drop you off exactly at your address, never wear any branded clothes etc. As you say simple things like using a fake name/phone even persona.

Wasn't paranoid or extreme, just the way things are to be safe and mindful. Everyone did it =)

Europe and the added levels of security and state responsibility and welfare made it not only a necessity to be identified and verified constantly -- it also lulls you into a sense of comfort and safety, so you're always getting more lax. I now don't think twice about taking the same routes. Taking uber directly to my door. Signing in with my name.

I'm definitely less careful these days about Bitcoin use. Don't really know why, also the same laxness from this feeling of safety and comfort? Used to be always a new address, always separating wallets, no satoshi parked at an exchange even for a minute longer than necessary.

Now I reuse addresses. I label addresses for different uses rather than separate wallets. I do leave BTC in exchanges for days and weeks without active trades (Localbitcoin but it still counts).
4183  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: June 14, 2022, 07:05:26 PM
^ Can't believe I missed this thread but yeah, game's really kind of gone, in many ways. Still entertaining for the most, but I personally lost my only local tie a decade ago when my club vanished.

A new club sprung up 2 years ago when a group of business people bought one club not even from my state and renamed it with my old club's name.

Nothing local about it though, except later on when they recruited locals and not that I'm partisan or anything (or hell maybe I am) but there was some crazy nostalgia thing about guys from your patch of the woods mixing it up with continental superstars on a stage they would never have seen if they didn't kick a ball better than regular joes.

Anyway, popped in here to ask if anyone knows any new streaming deals for EPL with English commentary coming to Europe?

Dazn came here in December, but no football.
Amazon (with forced UK settings + VPN) had some games for a while, but seems like it was a trial, not sure next season.
FOX and ESPN have a local stream but commentary NOT in English, not all games, and you've to pay out of your nose for everything.

IPTV crap's... tried and tested and never satisfactory.

4184  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io UEFA Nations League Prediction Pool Discussion Thread on: June 14, 2022, 04:18:44 PM
So, who will screw our tickets tonight? I am thinking it is time for Belgium to drop some points, probably Poland looking for revenge. England should probably win tonight if they want any chances of final tournament.

Germany - Italy should be the beauty of the day and I am expecting Germans to take all the points here. This new Italy squad looks really limited to me and I don't see them scoring in most matches against top teams. Maybe 1:0 for Germans could be a correct score for me finally.

Agree. I'm going to go out on a limb here and place a bet against NL today... Wales 65/10. Small bet, just to scratch my itch, everything else is just way too unreliable.

BTW the Caucasus and Central Asia teams have been really playing well... now Armenia took lead against Scotland (but just conceded and then JUST scored now heh). Could it be they see this as their best chance for international glory? Georgia, Armenia, Kazakh, Azerbaijan, damn. They're trouncing the traditional "lesser powers".
4185  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: June 14, 2022, 01:07:24 PM
Actually kind of pleased to see most of you are still banking on Peru---
Less tension isn't always a good thing Wink
Peru odds remained +/- stable and still x2 better than Australia. Their government put a special holiday today so people can support their national team! They breathe football there Cheesy

Yeah, the draw was a minor upset but since I took ML on Australia, my NZ bet today is rendered pointless. Not going to double down on that for the odds, when another draw to PK outcomes seems on the cards.

Love those states doing holiday things -- when Tirana hosted the Conference League final, they declared that day a public holiday I heard (which is strange as they weren't even playing haha) but I get it. My country always promises a holiday if we win the Asian Cup or even Thomas Cup (badminton). Funny but totally get it.

@buwaytress. It is okay to laugh hehe. I admitted my mistake in this thread on page 6, however. It might be because the bear market was beginning and any good news was what hyped me without being my usual skeptical self hehehe.

You also want to laugh at something? Justin Sun has declared that he will buy bitcoin to use as the backing for his own stablecoin USDD.

@bbc.reporter heh yeah, it's just so easy to shoot yourself in the foot when making predictions, analyses etc. Saw that Bitcoin dipped all the way to $21k earlier today, that was Saylor's margin call point, wasn't it? Know if he lost anything or did he dump in more collateral.

Bitcoin reserves to protect a stablecoin peg... hmm, where have I heard that debacle before? Funnier is probably that the model has been tried, tested and proven to fail many times!
4187  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🚀-Sportsbet.io-🚀 - Main sponsor of Southampton FC 👋👋 on: June 14, 2022, 08:55:41 AM
Honestly, there aren't that many casinos that would even "like" to meet with their players neither. I am sure that there would be a lot of problems because most casinos are not liked that way, there are many complaints and problems and if they did a meetup then there would be a lot of people who will come to ask questions and make demands. Sportsbet.io is one of the few that could do whatever they want and get away with it, and that is why they are doing that well and meet with people. So long story short, there is a good chance that we could literally end up with one of the best sportsbooks of all time. They should do a meetup with british ones I believe, people like me (I am from Turkey) can't go anywhere, so wherever their biggest customer base is from (said british because of southampton so I just assumed) they should do one there.

Really? I always thought the biggest casinos (brick and mortar) loved doing stuff for their VIP players. Which I know Sportsbet does a lot too -- yeah, this forum's got a lot of loyal players but think there are a good number of whales who don't use crypto so the fact SB gives a lot of love to us is something of a generous anomaly ha!

I happen to know people like you (Turks) can go places, with the proper arrangements Wink

They have a .co.uk brand in the UK, .io customers... well there're a lot of Brazilians, no Steve? I met one of their reps during the Liverpool-Flamengo CWC final.

Wen Sao Paolo meetup?
4188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Newbies: Don't panic and learn to hold on: June 14, 2022, 07:37:05 AM
Not just newbies? In my experience, it's the semi-long to medium-term holders who're the most prone to panic heh. I can point to 2018 and 2019 to my own experiences. People who held for 2 cycles or more, thinking 20k was it, and "they should have exited at 10k".

Sure, we're still above (barely) 2017 ATH so technically anyone who bought before 2020 is still in profit but I can understand why people feel like they wasted opportunities and may need to wait another 5 years or so, so that's where the panic comes from.

Of course newbies panicking too. Newbies, to me, are those all quoted in the article list. Overnight experts created by the 2020/21 bull.

They're offloading their fear and some of the vets will be lapping it up...
4189  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io UEFA Nations League Prediction Pool Discussion Thread on: June 14, 2022, 06:56:38 AM
Well done Croatia, a really solid performance overall and our first win against France in our history.

At first I felt the penalty was a bit soft but after seeing it from multiple angles, there was a stomp and definitely enough contact for it to be given.
After we took the lead we basically controlled the game well and although France did put us under some pressure throughout the game - we really defended well.

Shame we lost against Austria in the 1st game, we would have been on top with a win there.

I'm only a bit upset I haven't been taking bets like these, really. Forgivable offence at the start of the group games even if I always say that's the time to bet on upsets, but it's criminal not to be taking advantage of the shitty English/German/French/Italian football. So much about the "Big Five" leagues.

I've been getting a LOT of joy from the lower groups though, yesterday picked Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan (who won both as the underdogs) but just too bad I insist to put Group A on my tickets. Like leea said, France 1.5x was just too good to ignore on an acca. BAD choice. All my fault.

4190  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io Betting discussion thread rev on: June 14, 2022, 05:51:59 AM
I think Steve does deserve a raise with keeping us all active here on the forums!

Yeah pretty much with all those giveaway / contest thread in games & rounds as well as sponsoring alot league prediction and stuff. Also glad that few folks managed to meet up each other through Beers with Steve. Tons of good stuff lately but honestly nothing beats all those times when we had the regular Multimaster, still wishing this to come back though  Tongue

And a medal or something he can wear round his neck to mark him out like the true daddy cool he really is. Giving promotions and making contests is one thing, getting the right group of guys to help manage them on the forum, that's something else, and then to extend support to customers AND do meetups when he's surely got a crapload on his plate? I'd be pretty broken doing all that.

Multimaster I liked a lot too, but can totally understand why they took it away, shame though I still feel like there's unfinished business there as the only time I won had to share it with so many peeps haha.

Strangely, Soccer Blackjack is what got me juices going. I know it seemed terrible value at some point, but you pretty much got good wins by avoiding crap like Nations League heh
4191  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto cycle to start by Q4, 2022 on: June 13, 2022, 01:22:26 PM
He is not a perma-bull, but an ordinary shitcoin promoter who has been parasitizing on Bitcoin for years. The tattoo on his shoulder should be a reminder to anyone who thinks differently. Talking about some new cycles in times that are a lot harder than anything that has happened in the last 40-50 years is completely frivolous.

Oh man did he really fall for that nonsense? I can totally get behind a Bitcoin permatat (not on myself but well, I'd pat someone on the back for it) but this rando shitcoin I'd never heard of until last month?

Not that I used to think the world of him, but I'd never actually framed him to be one of those.

Anyway, as you say, times are a lot harder than most alive have experienced. Probably will get even tougher. Can't really bear to think how bad, but should no be deluded into thinking a cycle is en route.
4192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Michael Saylor margin call if Bitcoin dumps below $21,000 on: June 13, 2022, 12:20:20 PM
Damn, that was risky then, but who'd have called an approach to 21k so soon, barely a month after the posting of that price, huh? 50% drop in a month, and using the same asset to borrow against to buy more of the same, that was a virtual double down on a risky position.

It's a crazy bet, probably one I'd have made myself in all honesty, to not see Bitcoin drop below previous ATH. Definitely would have done it in a blink if I had Micro's extra stash lying around.
4193  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: June 13, 2022, 08:58:11 AM
Actually kind of pleased to see most of you are still banking on Peru, as are the bookies, which usually gives me more confidence that the team could end up being overconfident in sunny, hot, balmy Doha. The Aussies will be happier to be the underdog also so should play without pressure.

Just hope they make their height advantage count. They were pinging it all over the place without much effect against UAE but this time corners should pose more dangers.
4194  Economy / Speculation / Re: Peter Schiff Advices Don't Buy the Dip on: June 13, 2022, 07:47:06 AM
Pretty dire, but this wasn't unexpected -- and I've to say his 20k and 1k valuations are scarily close enough to even be conservative. Considering that we're barely 25% away from those numbers right now.

As pooya says, definitely big smiles on the faces of guys like Schiff. But mind you, he's trying to get it even lower so he can re-up.

Oh he's into Bitcoin, even if he and his cut of cloth will never admit it.
4195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Act to defend privacy or resign ourselves to its loss? on: June 13, 2022, 06:28:02 AM
Yeah, think most people here got it. There is no ultimatum with many of the choices we make in our lives. There is a more conscious way to ensure there's check and balance in the various governments that try to govern us -- not just with privacy (though that's probably the most important aspect they need to maintain surveillance and exert control over all other aspects).

I admit in the last 5/6 years I've definitely been more lax with privacy, due to relocation to Europe, where everything almost requires identification for the rights to reside. Lived and worked about 15 years prior in the global south and have managed to largely get by without so much as an email address.

Now I've willingly, even eagerly KYC'd on certain services, if only for ease of daily life, and those who depend on me. Crypto exchanges. Tax. But as soon as I'm done with the service, or their retention period is over, I request to be forgotten. Can't verify they forget me, but at least if it should come to a point later I discover they haven't, I have legal recourse.

Where possible, I make it very difficult to ID, or give an old document or wrong address etc.

So it's not one choice or the other. As long as everything you do in either direction is conscious, deliberate, and weighed in on cost-benefit, then you've done your part. No need to resign yourself, and no need to fight tooth and nail.
4196  Economy / Speculation / Re: Terra cofounder Do Kwon is the one who is pumping Bitcoin on: June 12, 2022, 08:19:09 PM
Man this did not age well, or shall we say, it aged terribly badly, terribly quickly!

Not laughing at your expense, bbc, I know I've stucky opinion into holes plenty so I am pot enough to not call out the kettle but yeah, he bought a lot, but it did not budge the market at the time.

Selling it shouldn't have either yet the BTC reserve selloff was roundly blamed or at least partially for the crash in BTC.

This. This is why all the Saylor and Bukele buys to me will never do much to lift prices.

That is the tough reality of markets. Few Fomo buy on the coattails of whale buys. But whale sells? Panic!!
4197  Economy / Speculation / Re: It goes same way people never learn btc 30k on: June 12, 2022, 05:18:22 PM
Another reason why people get so restless when there is a bear market has to do with the price at which they bought, if they had bought their bitcoin when the bull market was just starting then even with the current drop they will still have some exceptional profits, however if they invested at the top of the market or close to it then they will be very nervous as right now their losses will not be small at all, so they begin to doubt bitcoin and its ability to recover and that is why they end up selling for a bad price.

Yup. Think there's a term bandied around recently and it's the proportion of Bitcoin holders who are "underwater" right now and that's everything to do with their average entry price. We may be in the depths of bear despair now but according to stats, we're still only less than half of Bitcoin holders being "underwater".

Previous crashes have seen up to 75% of holders bear the pain, suggesting we're not yet at that floor. We're just not enough of a nervous bunch yet heh heh.
4198  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏁🏎️ Sportsbet.io🏁 FORMULA 1 2022 Season🏁🏎️Prediction Pool Discussion Thread on: June 12, 2022, 04:16:08 PM
Yeah, sorry about Ferrari guys, and I just read that 4 cars with Ferrari engines all failed and DNF. I do feel vindicated with a RB 1-2 finish, but should have been even colder about Ferrari, plucked LeClerc to get the last podium spot and paid the price.

Just not going anywhere for the prancing horse, but you know what they say, bad luck comes in threes and I suspect it will be another week of pain in Canada for them as I really don't see how they can extricate themselves out of this mess in 7 days.

Nice job rd. Looks like we're spreading the yellow caps a bit.
4199  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io UEFA Nations League Prediction Pool Discussion Thread on: June 12, 2022, 02:53:12 PM
Swiss is my pick today, they had been all down so far

It will be difficult for them against a Portugal in top form lately. They,Portugal will most likely win,if Switzerland scores a goal I will call it an achievement.

Yeah I'm actually really liking the Swiss against Portugal today for no other reason than for them to try and get one good win under their belt -- in a tourney where the big guns have been really shy. Yes, they got hammered a week ago by 4 goals but time for some Swiss revenge and a brace of goals/assists from MLS's highest paid player, don't you think?

That's my bet anyway, still going with a draw or win in pool.
4200  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will Hit over 700% or $250k is this possible? on: June 12, 2022, 01:45:06 PM
If we would take halvings as the main criterion that will determine the price, then everything we have written really makes sense, provided that Bitcoin still follows its pattern. However, it should not be forgotten that there may always be some factor x that will bring about the disorder - or as they would say in the famous SF film series that disturbance in the Force can occur.

In addition, each new pump will sooner or later be stopped at one point, and a large number of long-term holders have their exit points at $100k, and at any round number above that. If we are talking about reaching $250k per 1 BTC, we need to know that one thing is to get to that point, and something completely different to maintain stability at that point.

Definitely one of those who's eyeing the halving. Every other indicator for me's become less and less reliable (though to be technical, 200MA is still something I comfort myself with when days are dark) but halving is something that seems to remind the markets of what's tried and true: that new supply is encroaching sub 1 BTC.

That said, fundamentals and underlying market foundations have never been more different with each new cycle, so while trends and patterns should largely follow the conventional assembly line of top, capitulation, accumulation etc. I think the peaks (and corresponding floors) are what can no longer be predicted.

I really like the 250k target but that's still about 300% gain from the Nov ATH... a first time Bitcoin will surpass the performance of the last ATH-on-ATH.
