421  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: AMD earnings drop on: May 11, 2013, 05:18:47 PM
I think that bitcoins are making a difference on the earnings probably in at least the millions of dollars range, though it would be interesting to see how they recover. I think that they should make a Asic for bitcoin mining thats reliable then they could hopefully make some extra money:). Or mine bitcoins on all the graphics cards running in their testing centers.

This thread is 2 years old. AMD is now posting record share price increases Tongue
422  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Theoretical wait time on BFL 5.0Gh if ordered now? on: May 11, 2013, 05:13:12 PM
My estimate is Q1 next year.

Remember there are about 60,000 BFL orders ahead of you and they've shipped out maybe 35 units so far?

Even if they hit their very optimistic goal of producing 400/day (I'm assuming business days too), that's 30 weeks from now, which is almost 7 months.

And it will take them a couple months to ramp up to 400/day since they've been producing maybe 4 a day right now? So figure 9 months optimistically and BFL has the reputation of always being late.

Wouldn't risk it. I bet the DIY boards weill be out in force before there's actually any significant amount of BFL's 'in the wild.'
423  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Dreaming about open sourcing an ASIC chip on: May 11, 2013, 04:58:25 PM
On the other hand, if you look at things like the Raspberry Pie boards, they wanted to originally manufacture in the UK but couldn't because ultimately in VAT it cost more to import each component then have them sent to china and then imported as a whole, they some how got around this later on but I guess it was only due to price drops in demand that made it more feasible.

Nope it was assembly price/bulk assembly.

UK VAT is 20% whether it's individual pieces or the whole product. Think about it, the materials would be cheaper than the final product so the VAT on materials is LOWER than the VAT on the finished product. Doh.
424  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: May 11, 2013, 04:54:17 PM
i understand this right

30 board(about 5gh each) at $5 each?

so $150 for 150gh?

Dont forget the ASIC chips themselves!

Once MtGox releases my Bitcoins I will buy a 1000 MH/s rig, and will consider buying more rigs.

You will pay for, and wait months for, 1000MH/s. You will then consider whether it'll ever turn up. Hate to be so negative but a healthy degree of skepticism seems to be missing...

EDIT: is it just me or have the prices changed/reduced since this was first up??

They fluctuate with MtGox last price.

And he claims to already have 117 hashpacks sold, so I'm adding one. I'm tired of waiting for BFL anyways. Plus he runs them on his PPS pool.

Ah fair enough, I want to invest too but i really don't see the point in doing so now when he has nothing actually to put online.
426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Random] Whats with all the alt coins? on: May 11, 2013, 04:37:11 PM
curecoin, waiting for its implementation

This is what'll cause it to fail, as SciCoin. If you want to contribute to distributed computing go folding@home or bionic.

Forcing people to contribute whilst mining ain't gonna work, unless you roll the computing into the coin generation/encryption algorithm, which then massively limits the types and logistics of any processing you could have done!
427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC difficulty on: May 11, 2013, 03:57:51 PM
After 100+ points jump, most expected it would drop a lot, but

Current Difficulty   596.88735373
Next Difficulty Estimate   636.87248392

This is crazy.

Keep in ming that right after a retarget, the difficulty estimates are way, way off. It was 685 when I fiurst checked and now 628 this morning.

Not sure why it's that much off, but maybe people jump ship due to decreased profitability.

.b

Yep its exactly this, woo 7970s now earning 1.2LTC a day

 -.-

no hairy arm included?

it gets hot, thats why is below the central heat spreader.

BTW, this was cleary proveen as scam on page 43 why mods does not change the name and move it out of here?!

Did think, that looks like a odd board, wonder what the co-ax is for and why would they use a whole ATX plug? Then carried on thinking and though, hmmm with some old mobos and some glue you could make a really good fake!

If the asics is not shipped out are you ready to give a refund at any time?   There might be a chance where asics might be held up again due to demand or market doesnt allow for it or a shortage in supply whatever.  IN that instance are you ready to refund?

Tis a good point, once this company is up and hashing it could be quite a good investment and I'll probably buy a great big pack of hash from them.  Wink

At the moment tho you're just locking up money in something uncertain.
431  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Block Erupter USB on: May 11, 2013, 01:32:14 PM
I repeat again unless BTC rockets in price again, and it's holding steady under $120, you will never make an ROI on these.
And those using "Free" electricity from parents /work etc, you are actually stealing!

Unless its "included with rent", then we're just taking advantage Tongue
432  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: May 11, 2013, 01:27:12 PM
Nice one on the Phoenix connector.

As for the laptop chargers: im unsure of what to use now. Many ATX PSU's I've had go high on the 12v when loaded really lightly and I don't exactly want to use one for a single board. What would you suggest?
The only supply I would feel good recommending is a high quality ATX one like a Corsair. Even their low-end CX series is good. The ATX should be outputting a 12V regulated voltage so it it's off by more than 5-10% then it's not doing it's job. The specs for the on board buck regs are that they can take up to 21V normally by design and 25V under worst case conditions. So unless you have something that's gone very wrong it probably is ok.

++

Better brands have tighter deviations. I think ATX calls for +/-5% (too lazy to Google it right now Smiley)

Are there not issues running at less than 10% capacity/load though? Always thought they needed at least 15% load to be stable.
433  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: May 11, 2013, 01:21:25 PM
Burnin, can you offer some bulk discounts or alot cheaper assembly now you have so much interest? Wink

Put it this way, if you could halve the cost of assembly due to such large demand for your services, you would probably receive double the orders (from me at least).

Let us know about final prices (50euro) asap, before all the group buys run out!

EDIT: Are we still emailing orders? i am happy to wait for the website if it doesn't effect queues

And where would be the incentive? Yeh ill do double the work for the same money, oh wait!
434  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: May 11, 2013, 12:23:35 PM
My PSU has two power rails and the second one is already heavily used. Guess I'll have to buy another PSU to be sure that my computer is stable, It's not a big deal if I buy used one or make one myself.

You could probably just use a 12v laptop charger they're normally very consistent voltage wise and around the right amperage range for a board or two. Would I be correct in this?
Probably but maybe not. I recall a year or two ago someone used one with his Ztex FPGA miner and it output too high a voltage (more than rated) and blew the board. It really depends on the quality and specs.

My recent board changes have added a space for a Phoenix terminal connector behind the PCIe connector so that users who want to hook up other power sources have that option and because it's SMD it means that you can avoid any thru-hole solder connections that may contact the heat sink. I tried to place a barrel jack there but they were just too big to fit between PCIe and board edge and still maintain compatibility with right-angle PCIe connections.

Nice one on the Phoenix connector.

435  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: May 11, 2013, 12:20:34 PM
So you want Bkk to perfect his design without sample chips, so you can use his design to make money?

I figured to purchase a lot from you, but now I highly doubt that I will purchase ANYTHING from you.

Good luck with that mentality.

No IIRC they even offered paying him to use the design. He is getting some batch 1 samples anyway, calm the unnecessary hostility.
436  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Maximum 33% usage with SHA256, normal on scrypt on: May 11, 2013, 12:13:14 PM
Basically today I tried to switch my miner over to terracoin, but it seems when I put it on a SHA256 coin it doesn't get any accepted or rejected shares and only ramps up to 30% ish usage.

In the pic you can see on the far right 100% usage where litecoin mining is run, then the 30% where othercoins refuse to miner properly. Whats up here?

Thanks for any help

The hashpacks had been a success that since they became available we made a lot of orders, in order to supply our costumers and improve our times.

The only success is that people are giving you money, you ain't actually supplying any service yet. Best of luck to you, something really seems "off" with this to me and I don't understand why people are paying people waiting on preorders to mine for them. Nice concept but there's something not quite right here..

Note: This coin, it's a joke.

You need to work on your comedy mate... I see no one laughing.
