422  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Offline signing your paper wallet using air gapped phone via Electrum on: December 28, 2020, 05:23:30 AM
Great post, krogothmanhattan. Good to learn that you can do this with phones too.

I will also add that if you use Coldcard wallet (a hardware wallet), this process becomes a little simpler as the wallet has a built-in way to sign transactions offline. It goes like this:

1) You generate a transaction on Electrum desktop and export it to file as PSBT, copy that file to a MicroSD card
2) Insert the MicroSD card into Coldcard wallet and sign the PSBT
3) Coldcard wallet will generate the final transaction and save that to the MicroSD card
4) Insert the MicroSD card into your PC through a card reader, copy the final transaction, and finalize the transaction on Electrum

Takes a couple minutes to finish the transaction, but it's really the most secure way I've found on signing transactions offline. Your private key never touches your computer or your phone which is great.

424  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion to add support for 2FA/MFA on: December 28, 2020, 03:39:23 AM
This has been suggested several times, but it turns out it's not on admin's top priority list. At least not for this current forum software.
2FA would be nice, but IMO the email notifications provide many of the same benefits, so it's not high on my to-do list.

But there's hope for the new forum software

Quote
Any plans for implementing some sort of a 2FA in the new forum? (this is especially important for people conducting trades over the forum)

Yes, there will be 2FA.

Hmm, I don't see how email notifications provide any benefits of 2FA. But good to know that 2FA is in plans for vNext of the forum.

Last I checked Joe isn't a certified oncologist and doesn't have any background in the field of medicine. Why is he making promises about things he clearly has no idea about.

428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are your Bitcoins safe? on: December 27, 2020, 07:43:40 PM
Many people screenshot their seeds or store them digitally, which is a bad practice. It's better to keep them offline, and in multiple locations.

Hardware wallets have made things easier than ever. You don't need the seed or private key to spend regularly.

Just write the seed down and put it somewhere safe. It's a good practice to use BIP39 seeds with an additional passphrase. Even if someone gets a hold of your seed there's still a passphrase that stands in the way of them being able to steal your BTC.
429  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Have BTC want Paypal on: December 27, 2020, 07:02:25 PM
How much are you looking to exchange? I can do it at Preev - 3% rate, depending on the amount. Let me know.
430  Other / Meta / Re: [2020] Positive news! on: December 27, 2020, 06:42:19 PM
2020 started for me on a great note. Things then went a bit downhill due to Covid and all the different events going on in the world, as they did for many other people. That's not to say 2020 didn't have any positives though. On a personal level, I had much greater success in my career this year. And my Bitcoin holdings are also growing at a tremendous rate. And I am grateful for people like you that bring such positivity to this forum, as can be seen from the idea of this thread.

Here's to hoping 2021 brings more positive news in our lives!
431  Other / Meta / Re: Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC on: December 27, 2020, 06:33:19 PM
For 2020 I believe 10-50 BTC is a very large amount for a donator. I think the amount is very feasible to reduce because the price difference is very large between 2011-2020. BTC is moving forward and I think this figure will be too big.
I'm not suggesting admins to lower the amount of bitcoins that have been set for anyone who wants to become a donator, this is my pure assumption.

I believe a good compromise would be to add an additional donation tier so to not be unfair to those who donated in early days to get their status. Donation amount to get into that tier could then be set according to today's prices.
432  Other / Meta / Suggestion to add support for 2FA/MFA on: December 27, 2020, 06:28:36 PM
Is there any reason why Bitcointalk still doesn't have support for users enabling 2FA/MFA (two factor authentication / multi factor authentication)? I have seen many Bitcointalk accounts getting compromised over the years and those accounts are then used for malicious activities. I believe a lot of that could be avoided if Bitcointalk added support for members to add an additional factor of authentication in from of Google Authenticator or some other way.

There already exist mods for SMF (the forum software Bitcointalk uses) that make integration of two factor authentication very simple, such as this one: https://www.smfpacks.com/2fa/

I understand next gen version of Bitcointalk is in the works, but I feel something this simple shouldn't take too much work for theymos/administration team. Even adding a PIN in addition to the password would be somewhat helpful in my opinion, if adding 2FA/MFA is too much work.

Please give this suggestion a thought. I am sure many members here would be on board to add multi factor authentication to their accounts to add an additional layer of security.

Best,
Evilish
433  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Introducing BCmint.com Physical Bitcoins 2020 on: December 27, 2020, 05:04:36 PM

Our 2020-A first shipments were slowed due to delays in receiving the coin display cases.  We thought that was the end of our growing pains.

Our turnaround time to reship the now complete BCmint Physical Bitcoins in their new (awesome) display cases was immediate, and we were excited to get these coins to their new homes.

Your BCmint Physical Bitcoins are on the way, but here is why they are so very delayed:

Unfortunately, anything that could go wrong, did go wrong with our new venture.

We are located on Boracay Island; a small tourist island in the Philippines.  As we tried to ship out our now complete BCmint Physical Bitcoins, the local shipping company refused our packages as they looked like Bitcoin. We explained and provided supporting documentation that they were not actually Bitcoin, rather a cold storage wallet with no digital currency value. The local shipping company was not persuaded.

Instead, we loaded all the orders in a single box and put them on a commercial flight to Manila.  Surely here we could then ship our orders around the world.

The bitcoin gods were going to make us sweat, and it was not to be.

Once in the Manila, shipping companies would not let us export our souvenir novelty coins. We completed paperwork, opened corporate shipping accounts, and tried to speed through compliance.

Nothing was moving fast enough, and we were already so late…

We needed to get these coins to the closest country with world class shipping and courier services; Taiwan.

Again the box of orders was again put on an airplane; this time sent to Taiwan.

It has just arrived and is being sent to individuals around the world.

We are over a month late with our 2020-Alpha coins, and we are incredibly embarrassed and stressed.

Our sincere apologies.

Your coins are now definitely on the way.

Moving forward for the BCmint

It is now clear that there is a future for BCmint Physical Bitcoins and we are excited for what lies ahead.

2020-A coins will have a 1 month shipping timeframe. The remaining 2020-A coins will need to be shipping “the old way”

We plan to continue selling 2020-A coins until February or March 2021.

Moving into 2021-A Physical Bitcoins

We now look towards our 2021-A coin. Our priorities are to make a few very small improvements to the Physical Bitcoins; the metal coin and the hologram seal.

Most importantly, in the context of this message, we will stock one fulfillment address in the USA, and one fulfillment center in the EU so that orders can be immediately and timely.

2020-A Physical Bitcoins will be sent slowly with a 1 month delivery time frame while supplies last.

2021-A Physical Bitcoins will be shipped normally and professionally through fulfillment centers in the USA/EU with sales starting in Q2-2021.

We look forward to this community’s feedback on the 2020-A BCmint Physical Bitcoins once you receive them. Sorry for the long wait. We hope you feel that they are worth it.  Your understanding is tremendously appreciated.

Merry Christmas,

Warden

BCmint.com

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear it's all resolved now and we can look forward to receiving our shipments. Smiley

435  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Let's talk about Monero on: December 27, 2020, 12:44:36 AM
I think the chance of Monero, together with other privacycoins, getting banned is fairly high. Look at the US, they already proposed tracking of self-hosted wallets, banning privacycoins is a pretty logical next step. Monero's price would take a really big hit if that would happen, but its network would still function without problems, and darknet users or hardcore privacy enthusiasts would keep using it.

A part of me actually wants to see it happen, because it would be a good model for what would happen if Bitcoin would to get banned.

The recent proposal by FinCEN to monitor and track non-custodial wallets is what sparked my interest again towards Monero. Would the US government actually go through putting a ban on privacy coins though? A part of me thinks they can't and they won't ban Monero. What makes me think that is Bitcoin was also believed to be a dark net currency by most in the initial years and only recently the governments and general population have started seeing the other side of it.

And if it does indeed get banned, I would like to see how it plays out because like you said it would be a good model for any future challenges Bitcoin could face.

439  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Let's talk about Monero on: December 26, 2020, 07:31:46 PM
Hi all,

What is your opinion on Monero (or other privacy based currencies)? Do you think it's a worthwhile investment, and could it gain more real world usage in future when economies collapse, and governments start putting other currencies under more surveillance? Would we see people who value their privacy more move towards using a currency with privacy as a core feature, such as Monero?

There is another side to that argument as well. The value of Monero could very well collapse if the governments start cracking down on exchanges supporting Monero, causing a stigma around using Monero, leading to an eventual collapse in its usage and market value.

I could also see people being so fed up of their governments f'ing them over every chance they get, and we could see more and more people move towards using Monero. I highly doubt this would happen though. Most people are sheep and rarely if ever will they stand up against their governments.

I am usually not very big on alt coins, however I consider Monero one of the most innovative crypto currency projects, perhaps next only to Bitcoin.

With that said, I am still not certain whether Monero would be a viable long term investment given how governments are so against their citizens having privacy in any areas of life, and I could see them banning use of Monero.

Would love to hear what your opinions are on this. This thread is not about price speculation, rather to discuss whether Monero has potential for future growth and what challenges it could face (legal or otherwise).

Have a good day y'all and chip in if you have anything to add!

Es waqt sb se best coin konsa ha jis ko hold kr k bad ma mehnga sell kia ja sake? Ma ne pehle twt token 15$ k liye the ab 20$ hwe ha . us waqt meri bugdet km the ab shukar ha ziada ho gai ha.

Crypto currency market bohot unpredictable hai. Koi bhi certainty ke saath predict nahi kar sakta ke konsi currency best perform karegi.

But I can say ke BTC sab se safe option hai kyunke agar aap last 3 years ka data utha kar dekho tou aap dekho gay it has outperformed most other assets. Mujhe ETH bhi pasand hai kyunke it's the first smart contracts platform aur uski kuch utility hai unlike 99% of other crypto currencies.

Meri recommendation hogi proven assets mai invest karne ki. BTC aur second choice ETH.
