That's pretty neat, but BitcoinCash.org says it's going to happen after 12:20 UTC. The criterion for activation of the Bitcoin Cash hard fork activation is based on "Median Time Past", or MTP. This means that the chain split will not occur at exactly 12:20 UTC on Aug. 1st, but some time after.
MTP is a statistic calculated over 11 blocks, and trails behind wall clock time by about 6 blocks. This means that the last common block will be approximately the 6th block with a timestamp after 12:20pm. The block after that will be different on either chain. WTF? I initially thought Satoshis Bitcoin was about economic, tech and game theory... -> perfect eCash for ALL. Now I see here its rather about people and soap opera? Looks like that many 'users' are mostly active in posting nonsense and horsing around, rather not in directing all our power and brains in a better solution, community and most important Bitcoin's REPUTATION to the inner and outer side this entire opera is seen in the end ...? My work here is to do pure analysis of WHY we have this opera: Its all about a single line of the protocol Where many would agree about, it is not a consensus pillar Rather a user specific setting to allow free optimization and adjustments to market reactions Such a minor param, that even Satoshi lost not much brain upon, rather sth like, it needs to be lifted when time is near and Moores law helps for the rest. And due to growth and work scaling issues Satoshi resigned, not to be seen as a person, a king like leader, not to be a single point of failure and he diversified himself to a bunch of new dev persons. Carrying the responsibilities to next levels. Now we need to do the next level, which is clearly diversifying TEAMs to spread responsibilites. If core does like Satioshi did and showed it works, they need to step back (from behaving like a king) and lets diversify ideas, work and responsibilities through many, but friendly competing teams. This is the big future for Satoshi Bitcoin! Satoshi showed us all and we know, he will never come back as Satoshi, or this diversification mechanics will be obsolete. Why are we even still disusing this? It's clear that the game theory behind how bitcoin works does not benefit from "several competing bitcoins". If your ideas don't make the cut in the main branch it's because they aren't good enough. If you want to compete, then make your own altcoin and if people think it's better than the existing Bitcoin, then people will sell their Bitcoins for your supposed "better-than-current-Bitcoin" altcoin, but don't pretend to cause this hardfork drama every now an then thinking you are doing a favor to anyone, because you are just making the price crash, all for nothing because at the end of the day, people aren't going to trust hardforking amateurs with their money. Im still waiting for a clear statement of Roger Ver claiming that he will sell all of his BTC for BCC. If he really thinks BCC is better than BTC, he surely will dump them right? +1 for Satoshi |

It should have been obvious the price would rise leading up to the fork, because you're getting free Bitcoin Cash for all your Bitcoins. Fork no it hasn't forkin forked yet. There is BCC futures trading on ViaBTC and Yobit trading imaginary BCC because withdrawals/deposits are halted.
Heck there isn't even a dang block explorer for Bitcoin Cash yet, is this for real?

Everyone giving BCC so much attention tells me that people are worried about it being successful. hmmm..
It's getting so much attention because it is the first time something like this happens. BCC, unlike BU, is happening and there is some miner support. People are also moving their coins out of exchanges etc. Will it be successful? Maybe. Will it come even close to the success of Bitcoin? Hell no. Bitcoin Cash (BCH and not anymore BCC) can have a life of its own because there are now some number of supporters of the altcoin this early and if it can prove something that it can also survive in a sea of new coins/tokens then there is a big possibility that more and more will support it. BCH should not anymore be taken as something like an enemy to the real Bitcoin in the same manner that we don't view that way when we talk about Litecoin and Ethereum...let it takes its place as an altcoin. Right now, Bitcoin's value is not affected by BCH in fact this can even push its value to the sky because we would be able to see the big difference between the two. But would it be possible that later on Bitcoin Cash can proven itself to be better than Bitcoin? Hmmm...let me have it a topic in another post. I see your point and agree, that Bitcoin Cash may take its place as an purposeful alt-coin. It just bothers me at all the people that are trying to change Bitcoin from what Satoshi intended. We should leave Bitcoin the way it is as an honor to Satoshi as well as an experiment to see how it turns out. Let all the alt-coins try new configurations and algorithms. If they really are better than people will switch. It's not worth the risk in ruining Bitcoin because people want faster confirmations or lower fees. That said, I would have more respect if Bitcoin Cash didn't try to profit off the Bitcoin brand and came up with an original name. Just call it what it is, an alt-coin. |

Roger Ver has already said that he is ready to dump his huge Bitcoin stash (estimated to be worth around BTC300,000) to purchase BCC. If the Bitcoin Cash lists at around BTC0.01, then Ver just needs to spend 25% of his coins to purchase half of all the BCC tokens.
Let's see if he puts his bitcoins where his mouth is. |
