421  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX 1060 discussion thread on: February 27, 2018, 07:03:42 AM
guys, need some advice..
recently i switched few of my 1060s with Samsung memory to ETH+keccak and doing abt 170mh/s per claymore, but actual hashrate on ethermine is only around 140 mh/s.
actual daily income around the same as WTM shows.

Should I worry abt it and try another pool?

Go by income, not site hashrate.

For those running the 5775r/5575rs and are having the hashrate drop issue: I am now running multiples of each of these (6 of the i5, 4 of the i7) and I have found that the i5 tends to drop 3-5 while the i7s will drop 100-200 in 24 hrs. My i5s will run for weeks without losing much, the i7s will need xmr-stak restarted most days. Not a huge problem, mind, but I assume it's related to the virtual cores, as the way I have them set up overheating isn't an issue. If anyone has found a solution (beyond writing a reboot script based on hashrate, which I am planning to get to), let me know.

Just curious, when you guys get your average SOLs, do you get it from your mining software or the mining pool site?

Both. I use the software to tweak until I'm happy then compare to the pool stats 1-2 days later.

by the way are you guy using any other power supplys than bitmains if yes which ones and what are your experiences with them

I'm currently running on 120v, so just to be safe I have one hashboard connected to a 650W gold+ evga psu (the other two and the mainboard are apw++). Once I swap over to 240v it'll just be the apw.

But point being--it's running fine. I've had stellar luck with evga psus, I have 2 of my three rigs running on their high end platinums and an S5 on a second 650W gold. A little pricey, but their gold and platinum lines are worth it.
425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone else having issues with their Antminer A3? on: February 21, 2018, 05:15:33 AM
I'm new to Mining so I'm trying to decided if I should stick my Antminer A3 in the Cooler for noise reduction

or if buying a "Silent Jet Fan" like the ones that the Antminer s5 are modified with by their owners will work?

Modified Cooler or Silent Jet Fan?  Or better options (liquid Mineral Oil might be too much).

Why are you using bold?

Silent fans don't seem to work on later antminers due to the number of boards and type of heat sink (the S5s had 2 hashing boards with a pair of thick foil style heatsinks running through the center, where the fans blow; the A3, for example, has three boards with one in the center and shallower heat sinks). I've tried the same fans I have on my S5 with my D3, even underclocked significantly (drawing around 700W) and it overheated in about four minutes, while my S5 has literally been running silently non-stop for weeks.

AFAIK most of the noise in the newer antminers comes from the airflow over the heatsinks, not the fans themselves, so even if you COULD find quieter fans that would work, I doubt they would make a huge difference. But if you find some, let us know!

(And I built a sound dampening box out of spare wood, some insulated ducting, and an old floor mat I had laying around, it's worth the time, my A3 is overclocked but running stably and quiet enough)

18.6 maximum onb my KFA2 1060 GTX 3gb Sad
Getting solid 295 sols/s on equihash Smiley
I don't know what to think about my GTX 1060's: I had a generic / HP with 3GB that regularly got 23MH/s ETH, but my new 6GB Gigabyte card won't go over 21M.

Now, I am getting around 500MH/sec on my second coin XVG, which I was not doing on the 3GB card, but my ETH rate didn't change more than 1% lower.

Strange.  I suppose it's another "silicon lottery" phenom: this has Hynix VRAM, I had Samsung memory on the 3GB card that kept crapping out on me.

Play around with various coins until you're getting the most you can out of it (whattomine is a good source of info for that). The memory brand is the difference, but as DAGs grow the 3gb will eventually become limited in what it can mine while the 6gb will be more future proof...
427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining farms for heating houses? on: February 18, 2018, 02:23:55 AM
I run most of my machines in the basement with dedicated pull and push insulated ducting currently pulling from outside and pushing to holes I cut in the heating system intakes, but designed with floodgates to be easily swappable to draw air from the basement and pump heat outside (I do drop the clocks back down in summer as well).
428  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ethOS - Ethereum Mining Platform on: February 17, 2018, 07:28:53 AM
All cards are GTX 1070s. I’ve reinstalled the older version so things are back to normal. But I would like to know one thing that is above the actual behavior of new version or is this simply a fault? If it is the expected behavior then I intend to keep the old version running.

I haven't encountered it yet, but I do have 4x 1070s running that I can mess around with temps with and see. I've only had throttling of individual cards in my other two rigs (580s on one, 1060s on another) but the rig keeps hashing, just down a card, so hrm. If you want to post your config file (delete or blackout passwords of course) I can take a look and compare to mine, but it sounds like you're probably right, it's probably something in the OS itself. Did you report it to the devs on the ethos site?

does anyone use the cooler funnel method to cool/silence their A3 or other asic?

if you do, can precipitation like snow/rain or even dust particles affect the miner if the intake is sucking these things from your window?

In theory? Yes, but it's not likely unless the machine is like right near the intake source/window. In practice? If you're concerned, make sure the intake duct isn't perfectly straight and maybe add a vent cap (they're cheap) and/or an inline filter.
430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ethOS - Ethereum Mining Platform on: February 15, 2018, 06:33:40 AM

Yeah, set your max temp to 77.

Thanks for your reply. But my problem is quiet different. When the temperature threshold reached I expect only that one GPU to into throttled mode. That’s is the way it was working before in version 1.2.7. But now after upgrade the entire rig is crashing.

Ah, gotcha. Hmm. Are you using AMD or Nvidia? I find that happens with AMD for me sometimes, for Nvidia at least 2 cards have to overheat or crash for the whole rig to go down...

(and ultimately the solution you need for long term is how to get your temps down, but I'm sure you already know that, not trying to be naggy or anything)

Have you considered trying a fresh install? Since all the system changes (other than adding custom miners or anything) are in the config files, it's a pretty easy thing to try...
431  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer A3 earning $500 a day mining SIAcoin . .WHAT?! Results & Stats on: February 15, 2018, 06:27:50 AM
So in the end SiaMining is the best choice to use or what do you suggest?
I wouldn't bother with anything else, set it and forget it

What he/she said. For right now it's what makes the most sense.

I was on Luxor for the first week or so and I like their pool and that they donate back to the Sia dev team. I will likely switch back to them once their luck improves/the difficulty rises, but for now I'm on siamining as well, the payout difference is just too big.

You can check the health/luck of Sia pools here:

great pool so far, i've switch over and am having better luck than I was on the easier pool  Wink
Thank you!
we updated the core of the pool to make it even more stable in the unstable ETN network!

Were there issues today? I think my rigs went down a few times, looks like the pool might have been down/offline.

The pool has never been offline for more than 60 seconds since its inception.
As podvodnik said, we had to restart pool couple of times when we were updating it. Everything is back to normal and hopefully even better than before. Only time will tell.

Been offline (or at least unreachable) for a few hours now...
433  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ethOS - Ethereum Mining Platform on: February 13, 2018, 01:25:06 AM
I was running in version 1.2.7 and I set the max temp as 80. My rig behaves like whenever temp goes near 76-77c it will stop mining that particular GPU.

Today I upgraded to 1.2.9 and now ethOS is not stopping the GPU even until 79c.

Is there a change the way it was working with respect to temperatures ?

Any idea?

Yeah, set your max temp to 77.
434  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Marijuana coins in 2018 on: February 12, 2018, 09:57:34 AM
I don't see the added value to buy weed with a cryptocurrency , cash is always the most anonymous way to pay for things in real life. It is just a big marketing tool.

Because most Americans don't carry cash regularly, meaning they incur ATM fees as a result, and businesses do NOT want to have to deal with large sum cash deposits or storage/securing, that's part of the problem they're trying to solve here.
435  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone else having issues with their Antminer A3? on: February 12, 2018, 07:25:07 AM
My A3 problem is when it started as soon as the fan blowing fast, the red led was blinking and then the fan slow again. And then the fan started blowing fast and the red led was blinking and the fan slowing again. And it repeating itself on this condition.
I can't get into A3 monitoring page. I get blank info and can't go to miner status, configuration, network etc. I resetted several time but the problem still the same.

Any help??

here the video of this problem

You may need to try booting from a microSD card. There are instrux on Bitmain's support page...

Who else have overclocked their a3 miners / at what and how is it performing?
I've set 644 on 24h average 890gh ambient temp 25F chip temps vary 70-81with chain 2 or 3 usually running highest

I've been running 650 for about a week now with no problems. Same temp range (70-81) averaging around 900gh. Runs in a basement with room temps around 50-55F.

yes, i did, and i also stated that luxor has a 24-hour ramp-in period, before you start earning full potential.

now that another 24 hours has gone by, i can safely report that i am earning between 1600-1700 SC every day...

care to post yrou last 24 hours?

I have never heard of a pool requiring a 24 hour ramp up period lol.  They are probably just hoping enough suckers will mine there for 24 hours before realizing their technical issues are costing them money

Yeah, seconded. I ran my miner for 4 hours after they changed to PPLNS before switching over to siamining. My pending balance? 0.07SC. I'm sticking with siamining for now.
438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Impossible to Buy GPUS on: February 06, 2018, 10:38:24 AM

Technically its MSRP + $20, since this is the same card without the hybrid cooler.  I remember when I first started mining, my first 2 cards were refurbished evga 1080s that I got for $450 each, absolute steal.  I had the computer in my bedroom and quickly realized the amount of noise and heat I would have to deal with.  Shortly after I ordered 2 of their hybrid coolers for $125 a pop.  Best decision I ever made, cut the noise by 80% and didn't have to deal with throttling issues from my top card blowing a massive amount of heat on the card below it.  These hybrid cards are well worth the premium in my opinion.

are they water cooled?

my 2 video cards are heating up my upstairs house

Whether they are or not, they will still generate the same amount of heat. The only way to circumvent that is to run them in such a way that the radiators are not in the room.
439  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone else having issues with their Antminer A3? on: February 04, 2018, 12:50:58 PM
I have my A3 running at stock frequency with one APW3++ @ 115v (per my Kil-a-watt) with no problems since I got it. Why are you guys hooking up more PSUs to yours, if you are already using an APW3++? I don't even have the benefit of cold weather, with the high being in the 80s lately.
APW3++ are 1200W at 110V. Miner is about 1350W What you're doing may be working, but you're pushing the PSU outside the specs, and that is a risk.

Per Bitmain, the A3 is 1,186 watts DC. The power coming out of your wall is AC. The PSU converts AC to usable DC power, with some loss in the conversion process, leading to a higher draw in AC power at the wall than provided to the miner in DC. The only things one APW3++ can't solely power on 110v within specs at stock frequency, with its 1,200 watts DC max, are most S9s (11.5 TH/s batch excluded) and the T9. The APW3++ is operating within its specs, even if it is close to the top with the A3.
You are correct the page says that now. I'm pretty sure it said something different when I first checked, or maybe I got caught in people repeating that 1300W+ figure over and over. I know someone measured 1500W at the wall too (without overclock IIRC). In any case, if you're pulling less than about 1300W at the wall you should be OK.

I have 220V installation and most miners do because server PSUs usually give you more watts at 220V and you can take advantage of that. PSUs are usually more efficient at 220V too. Also, dealing with half the amps help with breakers, cables, etc...

The page does say that now, but as you rightly point out, draw at the wall is being reported much higher. Then again, maybe the March batch runs more efficiently? Makes me think of the D3, which is currently listed as being stock @ 15gh/s at the same 1200 wattage as the batch I got (which was listed and defaults @ 19gh/s). Not sure if the hardware is different, but considering that with BlissZ's firmware I can get 15gh/s out of mine @750...I trust my kill-o-watt way more than I trust Bitmain's numbers, especially when the listing isn't the same batch as the miner I'm using.

Half the amps is somewhat of a misnomer, you can run twice the amperage of a 220v intake breaker at 110v. The amperage on a breaker is a safety cut off, you still calculate the total wattage. Not really relevant either way, though, since 220s take up twice the space as 110s in the breaker box anyway...

And second vote in most cases for 220 (even though all my rigs are 110), PSUs and especially server PSUs run around 5% more efficiently (iirc) at 220. But at gold rating and above that discrepancy diminishes (or so I'm told, I can't currently do a comparison).
